Motivation (Justice, Revenge)- Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered before his eyes as a young child. He has never stopped trying to rid Gotham City of the evil that took their lives. He is devoted to bringing justice back to Gotham, but vengeance still defines much of his life.
Responsibility (Gotham City)- Batman considers himself Gotham's protectors.
Responsibility (Compassion)- Though often quiet and vengeful, Batman is a creature of compassion. He feels pity for some of his enemies (Man-Bat, Mr. Freeze, Baby Doll), and feels sympathy for the victims of crime.
Responsibility (The Memory of Thomas & Martha Wayne, Parents)- Bruce occasionally seems himself in the shadow of his wealthy, honourable parents.
Enemy (The Joker, The Pengiun, etc.)- Batman has amassed numerous enemies, including the entire population of Arkham Asylum, and a few notable public figures (such as Rupert Thorne & Roland Daggett).
Reputation (Lawless Vigilante)- What Batman does is essentially an illegal act, with Commissioner Gordon "looking the other way". Other public figures are less forgiving, and he may find himself hunted. Police detective Harvey Bullock specifically wants him brought down.

Total: Abilities: 78 / Skills: 94--47 / Advantages: 41 / Powers: 44 / Defenses: 12 (222)

-The H.A.R.D.A.C. storyline was a really cool one in Batman: TAS, featuring an age-old sci-fi concept in a world of gangsters & Tommy Guns. A computer intelligence ran amok on its creator, yadda yadda, world takeover, and it gets blowed up. Replacing many powerful people in Gotham with robot "duplicants", H.A.R.D.A.C. plots to remove the source of humanity's pain- their mortality. Batman is nearly undone, but a nosy Barbara Gordon uses her own smarts to investigate, and the computer is ultimately destroyed after the robots are killed in various gory ways (like the Ventriloquist, "Robot" episodes allowed the animators to come up with all kinds of gruesome endings for their villains).

-A project only just completed at H.A.R.D.A.C.'s demise, a Batman Android, awakens when some thugs are scouring Cybertron's warehourse for stuff to steal. The android actually thinks that it IS Batman, providing the episode with an extra wrinkle- "Batman" is curious as to why he's made of wires (figuring he's trapped inside a robot somehow), and maddened by the appearance of the flesh & blood Batman. So now this super-strong beast is running around, and he comes gunning for Bats himself. By episode's end, he actually won the fight, but, believing that Bruce 1.0 was dead, he realized he's broken his ultimate promise- to never take a life, and willingly killed himself out of guilt. This let everyone know that he had a soul after all, just one of silicon.

-The Android Batman is much less Skilled & Advantaged than the original (only so much a robot can teach it's creation that isn't self-learning, like Streetwise), but he's got a swack of other benefits. He's got Immunity 30, minor Super-Strength & Speed, Super-Senses, etc., all on top of what's still a really good fighter. All of this makes him an even PL 10, and also makes him Bruce's worst nightmare in combat- his Toughness +7 makes him much harder to hurt, and he himself can modify a couple of his caps and dish out a TON of damage. Batman can still theoretically beat his Android replica, but he almost certainly needs to cheat to win.

-For H.A.R.D.A.C.'s other androids, you can use most of these stats (they're all fast enough to be +10-12 on Attack), minus a few Skills. They were a pretty devastating bunch, only able to be beaten by using the immediate area (a fast-moving elevator, for example; or a Bat-Signal) to one's advantage. The "Batman gets the shit kicked out of him by anyone over ST 5" thing was still well on display.

-The Scarecrow produced some truly great moments in the Animated Series, in that "fear" gave you a whole new look into the psyche of Batman/Bruce Wayne, particularly in his first appearance, when he was confronted by the memory of an ashamed father. Most of his the "Scarecrow" episodes are thus more about his VICTIMS, as they confront that which they fear the most- in this case, Bruce is afraid that his father would consider him a disgrace to the family name. It thus leads to the most iconic moment in the series, as Batman redoubles his efforts and fights back the "specter", proclaiming "I am NOT a disgrace! I am VENGEANCE! I am the NIGHT! I... AM... BATMAN!!".

-Another great one let us see Barbara Gordon's worst nightmare, as her father became a dedicated enemy of Batman after her "death" (in possibly the only single instance where fans were HAPPY with the "it was all a dream" ending). Crane himself wasn't that scary- he looked like a complete idiot in a red scarecrow outfit for the entirety of the show until the re-do gave him a much more frightening, black costume with a noose around the neck. A spindly, physically-weak man, he was nonetheless pretty scary to face.

-Craziest Scarecrow fact? He was originally going to be played here by COLIN MOCHRIE (of "Whose Line Is It, Anyways?" fame), but he dropped out.

-Scarecrow is the most "powerful" of the Bat-foes, though only because his Fear Gas has a REALLY powerful Save DC. The sheer effects of it have been shown to bowl over people as mentally tough as Batman & Batgirl with ease unless they get their breathing-devices on. This would be unnaturally tough if Bats didn't have constant access to his Utility Belt, and Crane was anything but a weakling outside of his Fear Gas, which he is. In fact, he's physically one of Batman's WEAKEST foes, probably going down to a single punch. He's extremely focused on just using the gas, his minions, and whatever hidden scheme he's got going (making athletes terrfied of the ball or being tackled, then betting on their opponents for big money).

About the Performer: Henry Polic II is best known for being Jerry Silver on "Webster" (an '80s sitcom), and made a bit of a name as an accent-spouting celebrity guest on Game Shows. He died in 2013, of cancer.

Obsession (Puzzles)- Nygma has a pathological obsession with riddles and games, and must constantly leave clues to taunt the heroes, and lead them to his current location. He desperately wants his genius to be known, and will come up with insane schemes JUST to test The Bat.

Total: Abilities: 44 / Skills: 52--26 / Advantages: 16 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 10 (96)

-The Riddler's been off-and-on one of Batman's most familiar enemies, because he's the one who most engages Batman's detective, intellectual side. This also makes him the MOST DIFFICULT of all of Batman's villains to write, so he appears the least often, unless it's in deliberately goofy settings (like when Frank Gorshin played him in the '60s show as more of a hammy lunatic with a wild case of the giggles, or when Jim Carrey played him in a movie- which I actually completely forgot about until I looked at Wikipedia, believe it or not). In TAS, he was a smooth intellectual, and a genius game designer who went nuts when his boss stole his ideas & fired him, so he started laying epic, sneaky traps all over the place. One episode featured him trapping Batman & Robin in a maze based off of a computer game, and another in an virtual reality game, showing he was the 'tech' villain to go to when you needed a weirder, more 'out there' episode. He still had the compulsion to explain everything in riddle-based clues, which again is why he was only used sparingly compared to the other major Rogues (four episodes in all)- that stuff is hard to write.

-The Riddler is one of the weakest enemies Batman faced as far as power goes, so he's only PL 4 (actually less capable than Bullock or Montoya!). His whole schtick lies in the GM portraying him as a behind-the-scenes sinister genius who traps the heroes in a game or something, or tests their ability to read into clues, which is one of those things that translates more to an epic D&D-style Dungeon than an individual with an impressive statline.

About the Performer: John Glover has played a lot of villains, including Lionel Luthor on "Smallville". His biggest award to date is a Featured Actor Tony for "Love! Valour! Compassion!", which he reprised for a film version.

Complications:
Enemy (Batman, Bruce Wayne)- Kyodai Ken knows that the two are the same man, and holds a grudge against both- Bruce once got him expelled from their Training Dojo.
Motivation (Greed)- Kyodai Ken stole from the honoured Sensei.

Total: Abilities: 76 / Skills: 66--33 / Advantages: 49 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 16 (184)

-Kyodai Ken is one of the Animated Series villains created SOLELY for the show. A fantastic idea they had was actually SHOWING Bruce Wayne's training as a young boy (such as training under Zatara the Magician to escape bonds), which led to past stories of Kyodai Ken, Bruce's rival as a martial arts student, who frequently pummeled the teenager and lectured him on his weaknesses, only to be taught a painful lesson by his Sensei that there is ALWAYS "someone better". Revealed as a thief, Oroku Saki style, Ken went on the run, and came at Bruce for vengeance. But after fighting Batman, he discovered the fingerprint-like evidence that the two were one and the same! This made Ken a fantastic enemy, as Bats almost NEVER faced enemies who could easily match him pound-for-pound in a slugfest without Minions, and it a made Ken truly fearsome threat.

-Ken's last battle showed him mastering the fabled "Death Touch" martial technique, but Bruce one-upped him, not by going through tiresome "Shonen Manga"-style training or some inner-awakening of power, but by just padding the area Ken was supposed to strike! Bruce offered Kyodai Ken mercy when the volcano upon which they were fighting erupted, but Ken instead decided to die, and we never saw him again. While Bruce was moping about Ken's death, and the fact that Bruce's own once-honourable intentions had turned him into a Ninja-like creature of darkness like The Batman, it was his Sensei (who subtly implied he knew the truth about Batman) who corrected him- "Batman is the ESSENSE of the Samurai" (technically that's incorrect, because Samurai were a wealthy warrior-class as likely to kill and maim as anyone, but it's a nice point to make, y'know?).

-Ken is an over-pointed PL 9 guy, by virtue of his INSANE amount of Advantages. He matches perfectly against Bruce's own PL 9 fighting style (Batman never faced him in his later eras, but I'd like to think he'd just modify himself to a PL 10), in addition to being stealthy as all hell, and packing a Death Touch. It's a hard ability to use (requires an exact point on the body- thus being Inaccurate, even for a guy like Ken), and if someone say, pads the area it affects, it's useless, but hey, it deserves statting.

About the Performer: Bob Ito is a Canadian actor of Asian descent currently in his 80s, which of course means that he did roles on every "Asian Show" ever, usually multiple times. He was two different Koreans on "M*A*S*H" and THREE on "Kung Fu"! His biggest role, however, was as the medical assistant to the main character on "Quincy" from 1976-83. He's also a Voice Actor of some repute, appearing just about everywhere, usually as an Asian person (despite being born in Vancouver, meaning he probably shouldn't have a natural Asian accent). He was The Mandarin on the "Iron Man" cartoon, which seems to be the most recurring role I can find- everything else is one-offs (like the Sun Warrior Chief in "Avatar".

Complications:
Motivation (Justice)- When Dick Grayson lost his parents, he became as lionized against crime as Bruce Wayne.
Responsibility (Gotham City)- Robin considers himself Gotham's protector.
Responsibility (Socializing Bruce)- Alongside Alfred, Dick is the "normalizing" influence in Bruce Wayne's life. Without them, he is dangerously close to permanent brooding & introspection. He's there to help Bruce crack a smile once in a while.
Responsibility (The Memory of John & Mary Grayson, Parents)
Relationship (Barbara Gordon)- Dick & Barbara engage in some light or serious flirtation.
Enemy (The Joker, The Pengiun, etc.)- All of Batman's Rogues also want The Boy Wonder dead.
Enemy (Tony Zuco)- Zuco is the mobster responsible for murdering Dick Grayson's parents. Consumed by revenge, Dick is dangerously-close to going over the line, but even Bruce knows that Dick would never go so far.
Reputation (Lawless Vigilante)- Batman is generally more frightening to the people of Gotham, but what Robin/Nightwing does is still technically illegal.

Total: Abilities: 74 / Skills: 100--50 / Advantages: 46 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 19 (189)

-Regarding the TV Show's use of Dick Grayson, they barely used him at first. They actually went a fair number of episodes before introducing him at ALL- it was quite the shock to Young Jab to see Robin all of a sudden show up after tons of episodes with Batman as a reliable, solitary operative. The show went the more realistic route of having him be a young adult, away at college, and so he was just an occasional partner. In the field, he occupied a somewhat important role as the funny, snarky one to offset Bruce's grumpiness. Robin was more likely to smirk at something, or tease Batman for being overly grim. But he was no mere second-stringer- episodes like Robin's Reckoning DEFINED him in the fans' eyes. When he discovers Tony Zuco (the mobster who killed his parents) running free, he disobeys Bruce's orders, goes through a MAJOR flashback to those dark days (including a scene that was FAR improved after the Censors denied the show footage of the Graysons falling to their deaths- a single cut rope swinging into view is FAR more effective), scares the living HELL out of Zuco after a bad-ass chase scene, and then spares his life. Bruce wasn't even worried about Dick doing so- he just didn't want to risk his protege losing even MORE to Zuco (like his life).

-Robin was absolutely necessary to the show- Batman needs a humanizing influence, and it's very good to have a lighter, more carefree character amidst all this intensity and anger. He can have his moments, but in the end, people are more supposed to with they were "Batman's Friend & Partner" than the brooding Bat himself. The subsequent series actually renamed itself The Adventures of Batman & Robin, and even later, Dick retired the persona (leaving it to Tim Drake), and became Nightwing, just like in the comics. He generally had less to do then (I've seen comparatively little of the series at that point), but it showed the character's growth.

-Robin stats up more like a Mini-Batman (one full PL lower) who is nonetheless more acrobatic- his Initiative & Agility are higher, as is his Acrobatics Skill, and he packs Ultimate & Skill Mastery for the latter also. He's PL 8 Defensively, whereas Bruce is PL 8.5, so they're still pretty close together. Generally speaking, Dick has a hard time with anyone who can beat or equalize Bruce, such as Kyodai Ken or Killer Croc, but he can still hold his own. At PL 8, he shares a Level with The Penguin, but is much more talented overall, and meets all of his caps, unlike Cobblepott.

About the Performer: Loren Lester is actually one of the least-known of the Batman: TAS cast, typically just doing one-off roles or voice acting work. He was in "The Facts of Life" for a short while (as Roy), was in "Thumbelina", and a few other pictures.

Complications:
Motivation (Justice)- When Dick Grayson lost his parents, he became as lionized against crime as Bruce Wayne.
Responsibility (Gotham City, Bludhaven)- Robin considers himself Gotham & Bludhaven's protector.
Responsibility (Socializing Bruce)- Alongside Alfred, Dick is the "normalizing" influence in Bruce Wayne's life. Without them, he is dangerously close to permanent brooding & introspection. He's there to help Bruce crack a smile once in a while.
Responsibility (The Memory of John & Mary Grayson, Parents)- Bruce occasionally seems himself in the shadow of his wealthy, honourable parents.
Relationship (Barbara Gordon)- Dick & Barbara engage in some light or serious flirtation.
Enemy (The Joker, The Pengiun, etc.)- All of Batman's Rogues also want Nightwing dead.
Rivalry (Batman)- Though Bruce raised Dick from the age of twelve, Dick is now struggling to make his own way as a hero, and is occasionally twisting under Batman's shadow.

Total: Abilities: 78 / Skills: 108--54 / Advantages: 53 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 22 (207)

-As Nightwing, Dick gains quite a bit of talent, especially with his athleticism, Escrima Sticks, and Defenses. He didn't appear nearly as much in the final incarnation of the Batman Animated Canon, but the development kind of made Bruce seem like more of a harsh asshole- Dick taking on a new bad-ass identity and moving away, and arguing with Bruce a lot more.

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Two-Face! The Scarecrow! The Riddler! Robin!)

Post by Jabroniville »

It's really amazing just HOW good Robin's Reckoning is. They build up to it so well, with Robin getting pissed off over Batman just cutting him out of the investigation, only to realize that TONY ZUCO is the man they're after. Robin LOSES HIS SHIT, and just runs off on his own. And then that FLASHBACK- the bits with the Flying Graysons only barely show Dick's parents, but the close-up shot of the severed wire is AMAZING, and completely horrifying. Apparently that's all due to censorship- they weren't allowed to show the Graysons ACTUALLY falling, so they went with that... and realized that it's even more effective that way, as our imaginations fill things in better than animation ever could.

The bits where Batman hunts Zuco are forgettable, but I love how Dick is just ALL ALONE in this house, and how Alfred is the one to point out to Master Bruce that a young boy needs a friend. Dick & Bruce's talk about losing their parents is PERFECT ("Does the pain EVER go away?" "I wish I could say YES..."), especially since Dick was trying to be tough at first, acting like he was fine. Dick having the detective skills and athleticism to hunt down Zuco and get rid of that pimp is great, and I like how that makes Batman take on a trainee.

The second part is great, too. Zuco being free for nine years feels SO unfair... but then you see him. He's aged twenty years in the past decade, covered in wrinkles, his eyes a paranoid glare. He rages about how "The past NINE YEARS, always lookin' over my shoulder!"- the man is a wreck. Incredibly, his mad paranoia actually works in his favor, as he comes as close to killing Batman as any arch-villain ever has, just by wildly firing into the ceiling. Batman breaks his leg in the resulting fall and has to fight for his life, barely taking out some common mooks. Zuco's about to kill him, along with his henchmen... and then an enraged Robin arrives, drags him all over creation, and then GRABS HIS PUNCH (a "Batman fighting the smallest henchman" move, not a "Dick Grayson" move at all), and nearly finishes him. Robin freaking out at Batman ("You and your STONE-COLD HEART! You couldn't possibly understand how I feel! How COULD you?!"- Batman noticeably shrinks back from that, and Robin immediately realizes it was too far and apologizes.

The confession at the end is great. Batman kind of quietly admitting he couldn't stand it if Dick died too, but being hesitant to be that open and honest about things, is CLASSIC Batman.

Since you already built both Catwoman and Two-Face, I'd to point out one of the crowning glories of the BtAS development: the human side of Batman. Frank Miller's Year One popularized the idea that Bruce Wayne is pretty much just a convenient mask that Batman uses every now and then, something very similar to Lamont Cranston for the Shadow.
Portraying Harvey Dent in his D.A. role at first and as a close friend of Bruce (hell, from the exchanges in Pretty Poison it looked like Harvey was Bruce's older brother) provided the character with some much needed context, gave the series a good background element without inserting an ad-hoc filler character. Moreover, the result was that the relationship escalated putting Bats in a really unique position: he had to fight one of his best friends. This came more or less full circle with the episode Second Chance (which was actually part of a series of "redemption episodes" alongside Riddler's Reform e Harley's Holiday), when Bruce (not Batman) simply refused to give up on helping Harvey.
As for Catwoman, I just loved the fact that in The Cat and the Claw there were as many interactions between Selina and Bruce as between their masks. While I didn't appreciate how Selina was turned into the damsel in distress until Catwalk, the interactions between her and Bruce were extremely cute and funny, showing how they were not used to deal with these feelings in their civilian identities.
"You're right. Sorry. Holy shit," I breathed, "heckhounds.”

Enemy (Harvey Bullock)- Bullock turned over the gang that Croc was leading, and so Croc has sworn revenge.

Total: Abilities: 46 / Skills: 38--19 / Advantages: 16 / Powers: 15 / Defenses: 13 (110)

-Killer Croc started out as one of the more serious physical threats to Batman, among the few Bat-Villains with explicit otherworldly super-powers. A deformed man with ultra-thick skin and excess super-strength, Croc nearly pummeled Bats on several occasions before he was devolved into a more stupid villain prone to goofy outbursts. Still a pretty lethal opponent for the "regular guy" Batman from the early years of the show.

-Funnily enough, Killer Croc is most-known for a gag in the show where he wasn't even involved. In the legendary Almost Got 'Im, Croc is there with some assembled Bat-Rogues, all sharing their stories about a close encounter with The Bat. And after all these six-minute bits that involve a full action scene, Croc comes to his tale, where he does this slow, slow build of Batman getting closer and closer to him. And as even the Joker & Penguin are on pins and needles waiting for the pay-off, Croc proudly, definitively states "I threw a ROCK at 'im!". And so the others just give him a classic "..." look, and he can only weakly add "It was a big rock". That became the iconic "Killer Croc" line... except as the end of the episode reveals, that was BATMAN IN DISGUISE who said it.

-There's a pretty great episode where he's on the run from Batman, and shacks up with a group of people who used to be circus freaks. A Giant, a Two-Headed Girl, and a Seal Boy all gladly accept him as one of their own, giving him a family he never knew he had. And what does Croc do? He finds out they have a nest egg stashed away, searches it out, and robs them- when he's finally stopped, the Seal Boy (who is BADLY heartbroken over his new friend, thought of as a "big brother" figure, betraying them) begs him "Why?". And Croc can only kind of sadly, bluntly point out that he's just a bad person. Like the tale of The Frog and the Scorpion, in which the scorpion, after promising he wouldn't poison a frog who was rescuing him, fatally-poisons his savior, thus dooming them both, the scorpion can only answer "It's in my nature". Croc tells Seal Boy "You said you could be yourself out here remember? Well, I guess that's what I was doing. Being myself." He's just... bad.

-Croc is extremely strong and durable- enough to be a drastic physical challenge to a decidedly human Dark Knight. What's funny is that for all his famous stupidity, he's not actually that dumb. He's been able to bluff a family of naiive Circus Folk pretty easily, search for and find their map to hidden money like a common thief (complete with tapping various flutes to see which one had something in it), and thus still has no minuses to his Intellect, plus some Expertise (Criminal). After all, the whole “I threw a ROCK at ‘im!” line was actually BATMAN IN DISGUISE, not Croc himself. Physically, he's really strong and nasty in combat, with tons of in-close abilities, and a powerful Bite that is nonetheless pretty hard to hit. He's notably one of the guys in Batman: TAS who was significantly stronger than the hero (Mr. Freeze, Clayface & Man-Bat were the others), and ALL of them gave Batman fits- he fought like a Powerhouse more than an Elite Martial Artist 90% of the time, and thus strong guys were his Achilles Heel. In Sideshow, he even manages to defeat Batman, and Bats only survives because Croc is too groggy to capitalize. And Croc THEN manages to knock over a deep-rooted TREE, and then shoves a pile of BOULDERS onto it to cover his escape!

-Only later did Croc downgrade, being badly injured by Bane to put the new villain over. By that point, Croc was little more than a joke.

About the Performer: Aron Kincaid was the first Killer Croc, and appeared in some bit parts during the 1960s, mostly comedies. In the 1980s, he moved on to voice acting, where he played the Iron Sheik in the WWF cartoon "Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling", Sky Lynx in "Transformers", and more. He died in 2011. For some reason, Brooks Gardner played Croc in his "New Batman Adventures" episodes- Gardner appears to be a career bit actor, and still does a lot of voice acting stuff (often as "Additional Voices").

Total: Abilities: 46 / Skills: 54--27 / Advantages: 18 / Powers: 13 / Defenses: 19 (123)

-The Clock King was an E-League DC Comics villain for years, prone to showing up in "Justice League International" as a joke villain after a point. "Batman: The Animated Series" reinvented him, renaming him Temple Fugate (tempus fugit is Latin for "Time Flies") and giving him a weird concept: A villain who was elite because he could "read" people's movements because he'd studied exactly how much time it took them to make their attacks. He actually held off BATMAN for a chunk of time before fleeing, all because he knew how many seconds his punch took. He's only shown up a few more times (since "Skinny Smart Guy" is already taken by The Riddler), but he's fairly interesting. He even helped "Task Force X" out, having memorized the Justice League's roster and time chart.

-Temple Fugate's not an elite character normally, but once he watches someone fight for a while, he can predict their movements and "time" their attacks, allowing him enhanced offensive and defensive abilities. He's still only PL 8 on Offense and PL 9 on Defense, but it was enough to confound Batman for a while.

About the Performer: Oh, so THAT's why I recognized this guy when I saw some old repeats of "L.A. Law". I kept thinking he looked familiar, but couldn't place him among more "modern" actors- turns out that though Douglas Brackman (a cynical, somewhat hard-luck bald lawyer) was his most famous role, he was also Dharma's spaced-out hippie father on "Dharma and Greg". I didn't realize he was also into Voice Acting, but he was both the Clock King here, and Norman Osborn in "The Spectacular Spider-Man".

Enemy (Batman)

Total: Abilities: 34 / Skills: 42--21 / Advantages: 16 / Powers: 120 / Defenses: 8 (199)

-Clayface is one of those guys I had no idea existed in the comics, yet there were four of the bugger even by the '90s (the first, Basil Karlo, was an out-of-work actor enraged over Hollywood remaking an old horror classic of his- and yes, people got pissy about this SEVENTY YEARS AGO, so anger over Hollywood's remakes is nothing new). But the Animated version outdid them all, picking different aspects, and making him a truly awesome character. The tragic story of a former superstar actor disfigured in an accident, forced to use RenuYou to keep his looks- an addictive "magic clay" that reshaped features. He was poisoned by Roland Daggett's goons (Daggett owned RenuYou, and was using Hagen as a trigger-man to make money and kill people), and nearly murdered Daggett on live television, faking his death to throw Batman off his trail. The final part of this episode contains pretty well the greatest animation ever seen on television, done by the Tokyo Studio people- the scene where Clayface repeatedly changes forms, only to start mixing and matching the forms together, is astonishing to watch, even today.

-Clayface left such an impression on the writers that they wanted to have his Two-Parter be a stand-alone- the character thus did not appear for a very long time (much like Mr. Freeze). Since he appeared so rarely, nearly every episode featuring him was great- his batting average is actually superior to Freeze's, in the long run. Also some of the most horrific episodes in the series, showing harsh physical transformations all over the place (and that time he hatched-off a little girl to act as his eyes and ears, then RESORBED HER in front of Batman & poor Tim Drake, who was attracted to the youngster). Plus that time he tried to smother Batman INSIDE his own body, forcing Batman to FIRE HIS GRAPPLING HOOK out of his chest and pull himself to freedom.

-Clayface is one of the few PL 10 enemies Batman ever faced in the show, EASILY matching him phyisically. He can regenerate nearly any damage the +3 Damage Batman could do to him within a short time, hit him for +10 Damage, sneak up on him by Morphing, ensnare him with his vicious, regenerating tendrils, or just swallow him alive (his most expensive power, allowing him to suffocate The Bat). The only thing keeping him from being near totally-unstoppable to the human-level Bat crew is his lumbering nature (he's REALLY easy to hit), and his array of drawbacks, being Vulnerable to water & ice. Eventually, as "Batman Adventures" starts, he is able to Summon Minions, but only very weak, child-sized ones. Probably only Summon 1 (Extras: Conscious, Continuous).

About the Performer: huh- I forgot that was Ron Perlman. Perlman is of course The Beast from the old Linda Hamilton "Beauty and the Beast" series (which I always found dreadfully boring and pretentious, but I was WAYYYYYYYY too young to have been into it at the time), Hellboy from that series, and appears in many other sci-fi films.

Yeah, I really felt these were strengths, as well- especially setting up Harvey as a personal friend of Bruce's. It humanized Batman a bit, and made things VERY personal.

LOL, I've been on such a Joshi Puroresu (Women's Pro wrestling in Japan) kick over the past couple of weeks, I've barely watched anything else.

LOOK AT THIS INSANE SHIT!
Bull Nakano (vs) Aja Kong in a Steel Cage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABIm0J9R6fc

The hellaciously violent match STARTS with someone using scissors (100% legit- Kong still has scars on her arm to this day), someone pulls in a GODDAMN FLAIL, and then Bull starts dual-wielding nunchucks like a crazy person. Aja's trademark metal box gets used as a weapon, and then Bull hits the most freaking insane move off a cage I've EVER SEEN at 24:00. Absolutely bonkers.

It's crazy that the best women's workers in the world right now... we once had 30-40 women of equal caliber active at the SAME TIME in All Japan Women (which later split into multiple different companies).

-I never really understood the whole "Western" craze. I like some movies featuring the era, but the whole period has absolutely no "draw" for me, and I certainly don't understand how Western Comics once freakin' dominated so much of the industry for so long (even the JSA lost their book to it). Just... never appealed to me. Marvel had a bit of luck with it's Ringo & Two-Gun Kids, but it was DC that REALLY had a glut of these guys. Jonah Hex is easily their most famous now, partially thanks to that bomb-ariffic movie that sank Megan Fox's already-floundering career (over-rated greasy guttersnipe that she is), and because of featured performances in some other DC books & shows. He actually debuted in the early '70s (way after the '50s peak of the genre), and even ended up in THE FUTURE for a while (the '80s were a weird, weird time- and of course this was popular in Britain, where post-apocalyptic sci-fi is like their most-important resource or something), and he has had numerous unpopular series since then.

-Jonah Hex appeared in a single TAS episode (and one JLU episode involving time travel), in an old West adventure against Ra's al-Ghul's son, who'd roughed-up a neighborhood prostitute (no, really- they didn't call her that, but a big fat marm calling someone one of "her girls" is pretty direct). It was a pretty cool one, though obviously just done because some writer had a fetish for the character. Now, Jonah's pretty cool and all, but nobody "Wild West" themed has been able to hold down a series for like thirty years, so I'm not sure why they keep trying. Nowadays, all the Westerns that are acceptable are "what it must've really been like", not featuring ultra-brave cowboys using their own book of laws to set things right and all that. Even a vigilante bounty hunter like Hex just can't really sell.

-Jonah's a pretty balanced offensive PL 8 (122) character, but is PL 7 on defense. He's quick and handy with a Pistol, meeting all his caps that way. I statted a Wild West-era pistol a bit differently with it's Complications since they're a fair bit less effective than a modern gun mechanically, but still kills a guy just as dead otherwise. Otherwise he's set up kind of like a detective of that era, with the necessary Ride & Sense Motive-ish Skills (modified into 3e's rules) to make his way, plus his own Horse.

About the Performer: Bill McKinney is... haha, he's the "SQUEAL LIKE A PIG!" guy from "Deliverance". Amazing. He was a character actor of some note, usually playing Southerners. He performed in seven different Clint Eastwood films. He died of esophagal cancer in 2011 after a long career, though will always be most recognized for raping a naked Ned Beatty in the butt.
