Secret/Involuntary Transformation (Orochi)- The members of CYS are all actually part of the Four Heavenly Kings of Orochi, and are beholden to the monster. They do not realize this when they enter the tournament, but awaken during it.
Weakness (Predictability)- SNK Characters cannot simply "spam" out the same attack over and over again, as the opponent will expect the attacks, and be ready for them (and a counterattack). The third time they try the same technique (or same combo of techniques) in a short span, they will be at -2 to Accuracy, AND to his Active Defenses in that round. All will decrease by 2 every successive round the same move is done.

Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 50--25 / Advantages: 4 + 11 / Powers: 8 / Defenses: 14 (130)

-Yashiro kind of acts as the "spokesman" (he's the songwriter for the band, too) for the "New Faces Team", and has a really unique design- a bit more flamboyant than other "Fashion Plate" characters, he sports an open jacket, suspenders, white pants and plantinum-blond hair, but is REALLY big and muscular- it's a striking look. He fights using straightforward, aggressive, fast punches, but most wide-arcing kicks. He was modeled from a character from Combat Mecha Xabungle, which I've never heard of.

-With his transformation into Orochi Yashiro, the character's Boxer-style arts suddenly switch gears, and now HE'S the grappling-happy character! This makes him the counterpart to Goro Daimon, as he's also his team's powerhouse character.

I like how the New Faces team have multiple roles: Pre-reveal, they act as rivals for Iori (because they're both in bands), while post-reveal they act as counterparts to the Hero Team (because of their changed Orochi movesets)
As for Xabungle, it's a sci-fi mecha comedy, most notable because it was made by the director of the famous Gundam series, Yoshiyuki Tomino.

-Chris was the must unusual of the King of Fighters characters at the time of his creation- they'd had a lot of teen characters, but Chris looked like a SMALL CHILD. He's believed to be based on a character from the anime Armored Trooper Votoms, but was meant to deliberately throw people off- his innocent looks and cheerful, introverted personality harboring the most evil spirit of the "New Faces Team". When the team is defeated at the end of King of Fighters '97, Shermie & Yashiro willingly sacrifice their lives to empower Chris to become the receptacle for the full Orochi power- he is slain when Orochi is once more sealed.

-As a fighter, Chris is the quickest of his team, doing little damage but having good "cross-up" potential (going behind the opponent frequently and helping throw off their game). He was deemed quite weak in his debut, and was powered-up for KoF '98.

-Orochi is the Final Boss of "The Orochi Saga", which culminated with King of Fighters '97. An ancient evil, named for the mythical beast Yamata no Orochi, that was sealed 1800 years ago by the Yata, Yagami & Kusanagi clans and their three Sacred Treasures, it laid in wait until modern times, using pawns (The Four Heavenly Kings of Orochi) to try and gain a foothold in our world. Orochi claims to have been born from the Earth itself- "Gaia's Will", destined to destroy mankind for its destruction of nature that has increased ever since it turned on man centuries ago.

-Ultimately, Orochi manifests in the body of Chris of the "New Faces Team", lashing out at Kyo, Iori & Chizuru, the descendants of those who stopped it in the past. Fearing the end, it activated the "Riot of Blood" within Iori, whose family had made a pact with Orochi generations ago, but this backfired- Iori held Orochi in place, allowing Kyo Kusanagi to score the fatal blow. Though shocked, a fading Orochi darkly promises to see them again in 1800 more years. In KoF XIV, Orochi is returned when Verse is defeated, but is re-sealed by the Sacred Treasures in the end.

-Orochi has a pretty good design, but ultimately didn't get talked about as much as either Rugal or Goenitz, to my recollection- he never reappeared after the "Dream Match" game in 1998. The white pants and blue-tattooed chest are iconic, but also make Orochi look like it coulda been "Just Some Guy" on the cast- not the Ultimate Evil. But I REALLY liked the overall impression- this weird, floating guy, sprite "wavering" like there was an error with the game's graphics card, speaking in an inhuman tone (multiple voices heard and once and sped up), and doing Indian-style "Multiple limb" swirling arm-poses. His theme song is AWESOME, too- creepy, minimalist and then extremely loud electronic, heavy music. It sounds remarkably like something out of Akira.

-Orochi is another devastating Final Boss, and so dangerous in the Story Mode that it requires Kyo, Iori & Chizuru combined to kill him. As such, he's PL 12, able to hit PL 11.5 with his Exorcism attack (a lightning-fast blast of energy that ends with a burst almost the full height of the screen). He copies Rugal's Genocide Cutter with his Blind Oath kick, reflects projectiles, has a +8 Area Attack, and more- his accuracy and power reflect the high "priority" of his attacks in the game. His Supers look devastating as hell, too- one is a grab that sucks out half your lifeforce when he takes a chi ball out of you and crushes it, and the other creates a white screen while creepy chanting plays and he takes off a Multiattack-style amount of damage.

-Nelson is one of the new characters from King of Fighters XIV, a Brazilian boxer who lost his arm in an accident, but now fights using an advanced prosthesis. Unbeknownst to him, the same accident (which nearly killed his fiance- she remains comatose) was arranged by the very scientists who gave him his arm. His fighting style is somewhat similar to Heavy D!'s from the original game, consisting of a lot of punching combinations, thrown too fast for the eye to see in some regards.

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Athena! Goenitz! The New Faces! Orochi!)

Post by Jabroniville »

So with one of my longest-awaited sets partway through (still a ways to go, yet, but I might speed them up as we enter the more obscure characters), I was wondering what people wanted to see from this thread, as we enter the third year at Echoes of the Multiverse (which was technically two months ago). Jesus, time flies.

I long intended to re-post stuff "every five years", give or take a bit, but in some cases, that feels almost too soon. Like, my Captain America set is over five years ago, and because I'm old now, I view that as something that just barely happened.

So here's some ideas for Re-Posts:
* Captain America: Yeah, five years and four months- is that too soon? I mean, there's been a lot of new stuff since then (Black Widow got more important; FalcoCap became a thing; etc.- hell, this was all before Secret Empire and "Hail Hydra"!)
* HBO's Oz & Rome: Lol, still these are up for re-posting. I keep putting them off.
* Beavis & Butt-head & Daria: Jesus, it's been five years.
* He-Man & She-Ra: No, I haven't watched the new She-Ra (don't have Netflix), and I'm afraid to post these because of what I'm sure will be endless complaining, lol.
* Preacher & Hitman: Garth Ennis's stuff, bigger now that he's got two shows on TV.
* Older Fighting Games: Some of the last stuff posted to the ATT is old Fighters, actually- World Heroes, Eternal Champions, etc.
* Avengers Builds: Yeah, again- five whole years! This would involve re-posting most of the major Marvel heroes, as until this point I have only Spider-Man and the X-Men entirely on Echoes.

New Builds:
Ummmmm... here's the thing- there's not THAT MUCH out there that's new that I've felt like statting. I mean, 12-13 years of my thread (Jesus, that's a long time) and I've done pretty much everything I wanted. Most of the '80s cartoons I saw have been statted. The video games I've played, too. There's a FEW Fighting Games left, and things like that. So a couple ideas:

* Star Wars Builds: Yeah, so I was REALLY hesitant to do this because of the wave of complaining I've found tiring at this point, but let's be frank- I statted up all the OTHER Star Wars stuff, and this would probably lead to a lot of comments on here, and I've found those getting a bit... rare. Of late. Partially with people being busy, and this big set being more "niche". So in a mercenary sense, I could suck it up, re-post the old builds I did, then go into the divisive sequels :).
* DC Hero-Specific Builds: This one is quite tricky, in that I am FAR less knowledgeable of DC, and their characters are borderline impossible to research. But at least it'd give Ken stuff to say again :). I was thinking of some sets like my old "Daredevil-specific Builds" or "Cap-specific Builds" where I detail one character's little "universe", like taking Wonder Woman and elaborating upon all her villains that I can find, or whatever.

-As I've noted before, Japan seems to be ramping up the sexually-attractive black female characters in Fighting Games lately, and the King of Fighters XIV example is Zarina, from the Brazilian team. Fighting alongside her toucan, Coco, she has a wide-open, cleavage-baring shirt, flared pants, and fights in a Dancing-Themed style, like Christie from the Tekken series. Re-used for SNK Heroines, she also fights to open a nature preserve for toucans. Her fighting style is acrobatic and based around kicks for the most part.

He-Man could be a lot of fun. There is supposed to be a new movie coming out Hollywood 'soon'. Is there enough to research on with the various other related titles that have been slowly trickling out?

Jabroniville wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2019 7:23 am So with one of my longest-awaited sets partway through (still a ways to go, yet, but I might speed them up as we enter the more obscure characters), I was wondering what people wanted to see from this thread, as we enter the third year at Echoes of the Multiverse (which was technically two months ago).

* Beavis & Butt-head & Daria: Jesus, it's been five years.

For the old stuff, I'd love to see the Older Fighting Game Builds, the Avengers Builds, or the He-Man/She-Ra builds. And hey, if you don't build anything regarding the Netflix She-Ra, I won't comment on it. Promise.

The DC Hero builds could be interesting, as would the Captain America stuff. As for Star Wars, if the new builds would also include Rogue One and the Mandalorian, then sure. I can't make any promises about my comments otherwise.

I've got no interest in the Garth Ennis, HBO or Beavis and Butt-head stuff, but others might.

I seem to remember there was the possibility of building characters from Fire Emblem at one time or has my memory failed me :)

I like to see the Mega Man mooks, in the same way as Super Mario.
How about some fight scenarios?

I would like to see the new Star Wars stuff built. (though partly for completion’s sake) The Rebels builds could use updates, too.

Oh yeah, totally forgot that suggestion, lol. I think when it came up, only Koroko voiced any interest, so I wasn't sure how popular that and Shining Force 2 would be :).
