-And now we come to the mighty Tits. Yes, the Tits. Named that because it means "small" in some languages, these are tiny, tiny birds, but give us some of the most amazing animal names in history. They are identical to Songbirds, being mouse-sized and super fragile. NOBODY could have come up with these names without being kidding, I swear. Some have crests. They are common throughout Eurasia, Africa & North America.

Types of Tits:
SOMBRE TIT: Meditteranean Tits.

PENDULINE TITS: Named for their long, hanging nests.

CHICKADEE: North American Tits, named for their distinctive call, "Chick-a-dee dee dee dee dee".

Image

GREAT TIT: SALMA HAYEK!! I mean, one of the largest species of Tits. Common across Eurasia & Africa.

TITMICE: Typically crested Tits from North America. The singular is "Titmouse", which is only slightly less silly than "Tit".

Image

YELLOW TIT: From the Himalayas- one of the most spectacular Tits.

Image

AFRICAN BLUE TIT: The most colorful of Tits.

BLUEBIRDS: Famous for their bright blue plumage. Seen throughout the Americas.
Also filthy liars, blue birds and blue jays have no blue pigment in their feathers, but use an optical trick called 'light scattering' to cause their brownish-gray feathers to appear blue to the eye.

-The strange Lyrebirds are Peacock-like, but are ground-dwelling Passerines (songbirds). There are two species- the Superb Lyrebird & the Albert's Lyrebird. Like most passerines, they consume invertebrates for the most part.

Total: Abilities: -34 / Skills: 28--14 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 32 / Defenses: 6 (26)

Era: Modern Day
Range: Eurasia, Africa
Stereotypes: Sadistic.
Colouring: Various colors.
Size: 6-9 inches long (2-3 ounces)
Encounter Groups: Solitary.
Diet: Insects, small lizards.
Tactics: Capture and impale upon sharp objects, tearing strips off.

-The tiny Shrikes are little-known, but those who've heard of them definitely remember these little psychos. Shrikes are known as "Butcherbirds" for their predatory tactics of taking tiny animals and actually SPEARING THEM on small spikes, branches or other sharp things it can find. From there, they tear manageable strips off the impaled victims, or sometimes just store them there for eating later. You can imagine the surprise of people coming across a tiny lizard or insect impaled upon a piece of barbed wire or a thorn. Shrikes are small and generally monogamous, and gain their name from the old English "shriek", for their high-pitched calls. Among the largest is the Great Grey Shrike, which makes up half its diet with rodents.
-Shrikes are extremely tiny, barely half a foot long at their peak, so they's still PL 0, but are deadly to other, even smaller animals.

Shrikes:
* Most Shrikes are among the same group, but there's a handful of similar creatures:

SHRIKETIT: From Australia. A spider-hunter that will also hunt smaller birds during the breeding season.
CUCKOOSHRIKES: Related to neither Cuckoos nor Shrikes that closely.
BUSHSHRIKES: Not closely related, but similar-looking passerines.
BOUBOUS: Like above.
VANGAS: African & Asian-type predatory birds.

They’re not related! Boobies are water birds and such- not passerines! I have to stay on-theme or this thread will descend into mere FARCE!

Corvids

Post by Jabroniville »

CORVIDS:
-Corvids are actually pretty cool, despite being ultra-common, standard-issue birds in many ways. They are by far the most-intelligent Bird species in the world, with problem-solving skills akin to Great Apes, and brains capable of understanding numerous lessons. It took people YEARS to uncover the depths of their brilliance, though they always had a reputation for cleverness and ingenuity. It turns out that Corvids (Crows, Ravens, Magpies, etc.) don't just succeed in laboratory tests- they EXCEED expectations. When two Crows were given different sticks with which to perform some kind of tool-using test, the Crow with the faulty stick observed the successful one, then BENT HIS STICK INTO THE APPROPRIATE SHAPE, allowing him to succeed as well. They are also the only vertebrate other than humans to be able to communicate "Displacement" to others (Ants & Bees are the others)- essentially "this _____ is over ______".
