Total: Abilities: 48 / Skills: 18--9 / Advantages: 6 / Powers: 61 / Defenses: 9 (133)

-Sublime is actually the daughter of Jim Lee's Deathblow and a photojournalist who had a one-night stand with him. She grew up rich, and became a martial artist staff-fighter before she developed her powers over Density Control. She apparently at one point attempted suicide, sitting underwater for a while before deciding to live, and had an uncomfortable relationship with her mother, who hid the reality of her parentage from Sublime for years.

-Sublime has the power to alter her density, just like the Vision, but can also alter the density of OTHERS, boosting her cost considerably.

A nice versatile powerset. She's got the sneaky of Shadowcat, and a titch of Colossus by shifting to high density. I did not know about being able to affect others thing, since the DV8 comics didn't seem to be available in my area (or I just missed them entirely? I was buying lots of Image titles back then, even one-off stuff like Spirit of the Tao and Ascension, so it's hard to say). What I did see of her, she seemed less 'messed up' and more put-together than some of the others (Devo and Copycat, in particular, seemed as crazy as a bag of cats).

And oh, that underboob. Image.

Back in the day, I enjoyed DV8 as a "dark almost-heroes book," especially since conscience and redemption were a part of the stories.

I started re-reading them recently and was shocked to find Ellis as the writer (though it makes perfect sense). This marks then the only series written by Ellis that I enjoyed, I guess. However, I also noticed in re-reading them that they were a little too grim for my tastes now.

DV8 was also the proving ground for Humberto Ramos. I appreciate his highly-stylized work now (and understand why some people don't like it), but it was *really* rough in these issues.

Could her weapon be connected together to form a staff or is it always in that sectional state?

FREESTYLE (Jocelyn Davis)
Created By:
Jim Lee, Brandon Choi & J. Scott Campbell
First Appearance: Gen¹³ #7 (Dec. 1995)
Role: Future-Sight Martial Artist, Miss Fanservice
Marvel Character Most Ripped Off: None
'90s Ratio: 5/10 (stripperific costume; literally becomes a stripper later)
Group Affiliations: DV8
PL 8 (89)

Skills:
Athletics 3 (+6)
Deception 3 (+5)
Expertise (Government Agent) 5 (+5)
Insight 2 (+3)
Perception 2 (+3)
Persuasion 3 (+5)

Advantages:
Agile Feint, Defensive Attack, Improved Defenses, Second Chance (Falling), Uncanny Dodge

Powers:
"Viewing Timelines"
Senses 4 (Precognition) (Quirks: Ages Quickly if Used to Excess) [3]
Senses 1 (Direction Sense) [1]
Enhanced Fighting 4 [8]
Enhanced Dodge 3 [3]
Immunity 1 (Copycat's Powers) [1]

Offense:
Unarmed +8 (+2 Damage, DC 17)
Boosted Insight +12 (+2 Damage, DC 17)
Initiative +4

Defenses:
Dodge +12 (DC 22), Parry +8 (+12 Boost, DC 18-22), Toughness +3, Fortitude +5, Will +4

Complications:
Responsibility (Hates Violence)- Freestyle has a great distast for violence and combat.
Relationship (Evo)- The two quickly break up when Evo kills a fleeing enemy during a mission.

Total: Abilities: 50 / Skills: 18--9 / Advantages: 5 / Powers: 16 / Defenses: 9 (89)

-Freestyle was taken away by Ivana Baiul and her agents, along with the other DV8 kids, but her uncontrollable nature left her re-frozen and left behind. Later, when DV8's Copycat had her multiple personalities unleashed, Ivana had one take control of Freestyle- this apparently didn't work, but they put her on the team anyways. Freestyle was semi-loyal as an agent, but disliked violence and befriended Sublime & Copycat, and had a romance with Evo- this relationship ended when she saw him tear a fleeing enemy apart during a mission. When DV8 splits up, she moves to Las Vegas and becomes a stripper (WHAT THE--!?!?), using her powers to "clean up" and take over her workplace quickly. Um, okay then.

-Freestyle uses future-sight to improve her defensive capabilities, and it can also let her see other eventualities (like passwords to a locked area), at the cost of super-aging her at a rapid pace until she stops, at which point she slowly recovers her youth. She's a PL 7 hand-to-hand fighter, with PL 7.5 defenses.

I'm familiar with the weapon I was just wondering it this particular version could be connected together to form a solid staff, like the weapons of Daredevil or Moon Knight.

I like the idea of a precognitive fighter, particularly after seeing precognition get such creative and cinematic use in the movies Minority Report and Next, so it's fun to see it crept into comics so early, if not really used memorably or to it's full potential (a precognitive fighter who doesn't like fighting? Not so much!).

Insight 2 (+3)
Intimidation 4 (+6)
Perception 2 (+3)
Persuasion 1 (+3)

Advantages:
Fast Grab, Improved Hold, Power Attack

Powers:
"Track By Emotions"
Senses 3 (Emotion Awareness- Ranged & Tracking) [3]
Comprehend 2 (Speak to & Understand Spirits) [4]

"Enhanced By Emotions"
Enhanced Strength 5 [10]
Enhanced Stamina 4 [8]

Offense:
Unarmed +7 (+2 Damage, DC 17)
Boosted Strength +7 (+7 Damage, DC 22)
Initiative +4

Defenses:
Dodge +7 (DC 17), Parry +7 (DC 17), Toughness +3 (+7 Boosted), Fortitude +5 (+9 Boosted), Will +4

Complications:
Power Loss (Emotions)- Powerhaus is fueled by the emotions of others- presumably, if left entirely alone, he would be unable to become super-strong.
Addiction (Alcohol)- Hector drinks to get over the nightmares of his job.

Total: Abilities: 46 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 3 / Powers: 25 / Defenses: 8 (94)

-Powerhaus was more easy-going and less rebellious than his DV8 teammates, but drank heavily to ignore the stresses and dangers the team were put under. He once went on a solo mission to solve the murder of a woman who appeared to him as a ghost, and later got Grifter to punish I/O on another mission. He was disturbed to discover that he was a clone, and later died on a mission that involved alternate realities- when the day was saved, he was "written out" by this restored reality.

Danger Girl

DANGER GIRL:
-So with Gen¹³ a major hit for Jim Lee's WildStorm Studios property, largely off of the back of J. Scott Campbell's utter fanservice drawings with questionably accurate anatomy, it was perhaps inevitable that he'd soon spring off and form his OWN line, with his own creations. And so he & Andy Hartnell created Danger Girl, a book with even less pretense towards plot and characterization than Gen¹³ was. A book about a trio of Sexy Lady Spies, it was unpretentious, obvious fanservice in the vein of Charlie's Angels, to the point of featuring nude women bathing on the covers, frequent pinups throughout, and plots that were largely an excuse to show them in cleavage-baring outfits.

Danger Girl was, of course, an immediate hit when it debuted in 1998, but was kind of quietly so, as the Comic Book Crash had happened. The book largely came out as a bunch of Miniseries, with no ongoing forming. Campbell's art was the draw, but he of course eventually just became a cover artist. Curiously, though his style was most infamous for the crazy-leggy Caitlin Fairchild, by the end of things his style had shifted more to balloon-busts and incredibly wide hips, and his style just kept getting more cartoony as he went on. I'm not even really a fan of his stuff anymore- he peaked during the Gen¹³ ongoing and his style got too wild for me with DG. The book is still being published these days, but with different artists.

The book features Abbey Chase and the Savage sisters working as an all-girl spy troupe, overseen by a British agent named "Deuce" who is heavily implied to be the Sean Connery-era James Bond. Silicon Valerie is their tech-guru, and the CIA agent Johnny Barracuda has a wordplay & sex-joke-based rivalry with the girls, especially Sydney. Their arch-nemesis is Sexy Soviet Natalia Kassle, who betrayed the Danger Girl organization years ago and went rogue.

A movie has been been in the works for ages, but god knows when it would come out. It'd be hilarious of it either A) did better than the sexless bomb that was the latest Charlie's Angels, or B), got turned into the sexless "blah" that a lot of girl-focused movies have become lately. But we'll see.

-Abbey Chase is the blonde-haired main character of Danger Girl, said to be an expert on world languages and history. Huh. So odd to think that The Authority had way more influence on comics than Gen13,despite the latter running way longer, and with a far more consistent creative tone. Even aside from the infamous take-down book, the first title definitely helped shape the first MU Civil War story, The Ultimates, a few Vertigo books, and the characters even still pop up in current DC stuff. The Gen13 stuff pretty much consists of artists who still do cheesecake comics, with the crazy exaggerated anatomy.

All my best.

Right, and the Gen-13 style of comic kind of fell by the wayside, especially from the Big Three. Even Sex Criminals is more about sex in general than just a "Titty Book", and has more of a real story. Saga is more graphic than anything Image has ever produced, but again, it's not just ladies and it's way more about weird sex stuff in general, in addition to the weird sci-fi war. While both are kinky, highly comedic and intend to produce faps (and schlicks, I guess), they're both dramatic works with a lot more intent on story, lore and plot. Gen-13 had a few pretenses at being serious/our lives are in danger/we're SAD but largely was as Sexy Fun Teen Adventure Comedy.

Total: Abilities: 80 / Skills: 56--28 / Advantages: 19 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 11 (138)

-A "sassy and vivacious" Australian, Sydney is the most uncontrollable and unorthodox member of the team. Of the team, she takes the most advantage of her good looks, using them to distract her enemies via curvaceousness and flirtation (translation: unlike the vast majority of comic book females, SHE ACTUALLY USES THE "ATTRACTIVE" ADVANTAGE!). She also uses a bullwhip and does well in a fight against Batman in another crossover story, making her the only PL 8 of the crew in melee. Bios indicate that she receives even less character development than Abbey, though it's stated this is because she ALREADY starts off confident and highly skilled. Also, Abbey is clearly the main character.
