Ren, for her part, hops off of the table. Her boots thumping over the floor as he stalks out of the room with all the angst of a teenager who had a grudge against the world. After departing the from room you find yourselves in a hallway of white walls leading down a corridor towards a set of elevators. Which Ren leads the way towards.

When Carter inquires into how the other First Generation are fairing, he gets a look from Ren that might as well have asked 'Are you kidding?'. A handful of seconds later came the verbal response.

"Bad. Where you been?"

Carter's look goes completely dark as he replies flately
"Locked up in a Stronghold Facility for four damn months. I spent my 19th birthday being given an enema from hell..."
Taking a deep, cleansing breath Carter states
" look Ren, i know we barely even know each other's names, but we're the First Generation of this City.We are family, and if there's one thing i learnt in he Kadre, it's 'Family First'. Much as i like & respect Doc Sokolov, we're not his top priority. We are mine. Any intel you can give me on what's going on would be greatly appreciated...."

After hearing what she say's(one way or the other), Carter'll suddenly stop walking as he say's to the Goth Girl,
"I just got an idea that, if you'll help me on it, we can not only get Doc's Algea a Day early but get enough stuff to set-up a plan that'll help The Family out..."
The Young Gunslinger/Pilot'll immediately start launching into a description of the idea...

A sour expression crosses the young woman's face when Carter explains his recent situation. That's the only response his plight receives from Ren. She doesn't stop walking until the two of you reach the elevator. Once inside he turns around and, after the doors close, he pressed the button for the first floor. She listened to Carter talk, looked at him. But didn't seem inclined to interject. Only after he finished talking about wanting to help the First Generation did she finally speak up again.

"Carter want help First Generation. Carter need meet Jacob. Jacob leads First Generation."

Without asking she reaches for the packet Dr. Sokolov had given Carter. Opening it up, she shoves a hand inside, fishes around for a while, then pulls out a burner phone. While she starts it up, and pokes around to extract the phone's number, Ren goes on.

"Wait for call. Jacob summon Carter."

... then she turned the phone off and tosses it back to Carter. The trip to the first floor was a long one. Suggesting that the previous floor they'd been on was very deep underground. It was long enough for Carter to share his plan with Ren, who just stared at him in silence the entire time. At the end of his proposal Ren shook her head.

"Carter give us weapons ... ammo ... medicine. We guide below. Not above."

Shortly after her answer was given the elevator doors opened, revealing the hospital that acted as a front for Dr. Sokolov's head quarters.

Nodding his head, Carter replies smiling at her
"Seems perfectly fair to me, i can getalong topside fairly easily it's just Under that'll be the problem. Anything besides Doc' algea you want off Transport'll be yours."
Slapping on his Hadron City Hornets ball cap, Carter made his way towards the Ward Autumn Dawn was located. He needed to look at his Options for Rides and didn't have time to be picky. He was also raking his brain both for anybody he knew named Jacob and somebody he could hit up for Transport Papers...

Monday 23th, March 2019 - Return of the First Born

On the hospital floor of the underground building Ren goes up to the reception counter and retrieves a beat up black backpack, and a belt holster with a hatchet and sidearm rigged up to it. After strapping on the belt she retrieves a pair of flashlights from her backpack before sliding her arms into the straps. One light she offers up to Carter. Then she leads the way past waiting patients in ragged cloths, a security guard with and set of double doors. Out you go, into the dark.

The Under City is damp, stinks, and is filthy. There are cracks in the walls and ceilings. Carter gets the sense that sewage from the sewer system above has leaked down into the Under City, creating an unsanitary environment. As Ren leads him through the darkness Carter can hear distant screams. The route you travel is not a straight one and there are times when it appears you back track or go through the same tunnel more than once. It is a confusing maze of collapsed tunnels and areas avoided without explanation.

During the trek Carter does some thinking. First, the name Jacob. There were a lot of people with that name. The only one that stood out to him involved a remembered conversation with a friend of his that was into a real time strategy game called Overthrow. There was youth named Jacob Fitzgerald that he talked about who won a lot of Overthrow tournaments. It didn't mean much to Carter at the time, but his friend thought Jacob was a big deal.

He also think about the best means to acquire black market goods in the city. As he does, Carter recalls hearing about a gang the had migrated into Hadron City during the war. The Jaguars. While getting sorted at Dr. Sokolov's HQ the last week, he heard talk about them. Read news papers or watched news reports on TV that mentioned them. They had kicked Stronghold out of an entire Ward, somehow, and took it over. He heard one of the patients talking about a club in Ward 23 called Flux. It sounded like a good place for illicit dealings.

Eventually you make it out of the Under City and into the sewers. The exit is a hold in the sewer wall, carefully covered up with rubble and metal sheeting. From the sewer side it looks like a half hearted patch up job done by lazy repair crews. Ren takes the time to cover up the passage again. Then she points out a manhole cover with her flashlight. Carter's route to the surface. Before parting ways, the Asian girl points out Carter's handgun and offers a warning.

"Illegal. Avoid checkpoints."

"Don't worry, i got it covered...." suddenly growing serious, he continues talking
"Look Ren, do me a favor would ya? tell Jacob that The First Born is waiting for that call. If a bunch of out-of Towner's like The Jaguars can take a Ward from Stronghold so can us First Generation..."
Sticking his Pistol and Holster deep into his pack, Carter gives his new friend a wave as he climbs the Sewer entrance. His first stop is the Garage to grab a Cycle so he can get to Flux.He started whistling an Old Western tune he picked up...

Monday 23th, March 2019 - Return of the First Born

Keeping Ren's warning in mind Carter avoids the main streets and uses back alleys and minor roads with less traffic. Even cutting through a couple buildings to avoid possible patrol routes. Ward 8 was once a district dedicated to the sciences. Now it was commercialized. Corporations operated out of the major buildings. While a lot of reconstruction work had taken place in this Ward, it still showed scars. Some buildings were removed altogether, or cut short and repaired for smaller businesses.

During Imperator's reign no public transportation with pollution free vehicles were the standard. No one had personal vehicles, though agents of the government and law enforcement had their cars to support their mobility. Now gas guzzling, pollution spewing cars and trucks were everywhere. The clogged the road. Filled the streets with noise.

The further Carter went from Ward 8, the more damage, disrepair, and neglect he saw. Solar energy conductive sheet build into buildings were broken. Cracked. Vertical farms that were woven into those same buildings were untended. They were in a bizarre mix of dying and over growing. Mixing with the gray wetness in the city, there was a smell of wet rot and decay almost everywhere he went.

After picking up his motorcycle Carter uses a similar tactic to when he was on foot. Avoid the checkpoints. Keep to the less used routes. Make use of back alleys and cut through ruins or parking lots to bypass roads when he could.

Before he even reached Ward 23 he could see Initium Novum Tower in the skyline. It was a truly massive mega structure made of a tan post-modern material, reaching so far into the sky that you couldn't see the top of it. Stronghold was trying to keep people out of Ward 23, but Carter found his way. The Ward was the site of a new phase of topside urban development. The upward reaching counterpart to th the Under City's subterranean expansion. There were buildings in the process of being torn down even before the war. Damage structures from the conflict. The beginnings of structure's that were in varying staging of completion. But they were all dwarfed by Initium Novum Tower. The only in tack structure in the Ward ... and it was rumored to be able to take a direct hit from a nuclear strike and remain standing.

Carter manages to get past Stronghold, but not the Jaguar street soldiers toting submachine guns and shot guns. The criminals have erected barricades at all entry points into the Ward and, as Carter approaches he notes that there there are no drones in the air. Drones, which were pervasive throughout Hadron City. No cameras either. In order to gain entry, non-residents to the Ward seeking entry are required to pay a toll. Later, when he reaches Initium Novum Tower ... the building which housed the club called Flux ... he was halted by guards at the door. Again, since he wasn't a resident of the building, he was required to pay another toll. It came with the benefit of the promise that someone would keep an eye on his vehicle. So he didn't have to worry about his bike being stolen or stripped down by the time he got back.

Initium Novum Tower was so large that it took up an entire city block at the ground floor. It was a building where people lived. Where businesses were ran. Where people recreated, shopped ... they could live their entire lives and never have to leave the tower. It had everything they needed. Or at least that was the original intent. The people who occupied the place now did not have the skill and guidance Imperator extended to his people, and the place could not be adequately maintained. It was populous, but the signs of disrepair were there.

It was on the second floor of the Tower that Carter found the club, with it's neon blue sign flashing 'Flux'. In order to get in, Carter had to pay another entry fee. After all the entry fees and tolls, he only have one hundred dollars left over from the three hundred Dr. Sokolov had provided him. Inside, the club thrummed with music. Lyrics to gangster rap spoken in Spanish. After walking through an entry hallway Carter could see an open dance floor at the center of a large room, which was ringed by standing tables and further back booths and tables with chairs. TO the far left was a welll populated bar. Over head was a second floor looking down. A VIP area, no doubt, shielded off with reflective windows. From the ceiling lights flashed about creating an energetic atmosphere to accompany the music and dancing.

The dominant ethnicities in Ward 23 were Latin American. But here at Flux there was a reasonable mixture. It seemed that a lot of people from various walks of life came to the club.

Seeing all the damage the fighting did made Carter want to go & blow a Stronghold checkpoint sky high, but he held it in-check(though sometimes barely). Ward 23 was going to be Imperator's crowning glory,"The Dream made Reality"(to misquote Byron) as it were. But then Stronghold and a jealous old man brought it all crashing down...
As a little kid in the Kadre, you were allowed to have one made up "Super", that you were then encouraged to "Think like". A lot of his peerage tried to "Think like" a version of the great Imperator, but not Carter. He knew without a dought that he could never think like the great man, so he wasn't even going to try. Instead, he created the Greatest Gunfighter and Pilot the World would ever see, only known by the name "Snapdragon". While the other's dropped their Super, he refined his over the years(even picking it as his callsign when he got into the Academy) and now was the perfect time to bring him out...
Heading up for the bar, he let his Kansas accent show as "Snapdragon" say's to the bartender
"Hey Buddy, maybe you can help an Ol' Boy out; looking for somebody to help me with some Very Special Papers..."

Behind the bar is a woman in her late twenties with fair skin possessing a faint hint of brown. Half her heard was shaved down to stubble, while the other half extended down to her chin and was dyed an unnatural red, with black highlights. She wore a pair of black leather pants and a white tank top that was sheer enough to see some of the black of the bra she wore underneath, but not enough to see any skin.

When Carter produced a ten dollar bill the woman raises an eyebrow, as though to wordlessly inquire of he was serious. Then he tapped her index finger on the bar counter like a blackjack player signally to the dealer to give them another card. She wanted more money. The signal repeated until he reached fifty dollars. Then she snatched up the money, folded the bills in half, and tucked them into a pant pocket. When she spoke there was a slight South American accent that he couldn't place with any degree of accuracy.

"You do business, you do it through Marco. He knows the people who can do what you need. Whatever you need. Make sure you have money. Lots of it. You do not want to trade favors with Jaguars."

Turning her head he looked down the length of the bar to twenty-something Latino in a red leather jacket who was doing shots with a group of men in camo pants, between showing off improvised dance moves.

When Carter intrudes into Marco's conversation some of the man's joviality fades away. Rather than respond to Carter right away Marco looks past him to the bar. A look is exchanged between him and the bartender that 'Snapdragon' had been pointed to Marco by. It is hard to read, but at length he finally addresses the teenager.

"We talk business in private."

Turning to the men he had been conversing with Marco says something in what sounds like Spanish. The others break away to do their own thing, and Marco gestures for Carter to follow him as he leads the way to an un occupied booth at the corner of the room. Sliding into the booth he waits for Carter to sit down before talking.

"You want papers? I can get papers. But this is the digital age niño. Anything that means anything is ones and zeros. You need the digital to back up the physical or people get suspicious. Digital also makes things happen faster, and I think you want to pull your heist soon. Not a month from now."

Lifting his hands in a 'come on' fashion Marco seemed to dare Carter to said he wanted to wait. An inviting 'hm' accompanied this gesture. Then, dropping his hands he continued.

"Hadron City cybersecurity is a bitch. Got to physically plug into the machine to do your hack. But for 30k I know people who can do this. That's on top of what you grab from the transport itself."

Marco pauses here and gives Carter a sidelong glance. As though sizing him up.

"You don't look like you have thirty grand. Maybe I can think of something you can do. Favor for a favor."
OOC wrote:Before saying you only want the transport papers ... bear in mind this is a mission meant for an entire team to accomplish. As a group.

Marco's eyes dip downward when Snapdragon begins drawing his finger over the surface of the table. He raised a single dark eyebrow, then shrugs.

"You do things right, I'm sure nobody will need to get hurt. Get yourself a drink. Dance. Mingle. I am going to make a call. Might be awhile."

Sliding out of the booth he motions for a waitress, and points her towards Carter before walking off. If Carter were to watch his route, he would note that the dusky skinned man slips into a side room before leaving sight. Two hours pass before Marco actually returns and draws Carter back to a private booth on the periphery of the dance floor. Slipping into the booth he drum he palms over the table top dramatically before speaking.

"Everything is set up. Transport is due to leave at 6 PM. Bring the loot here. I got people who will fence it. Come by in a week or so and you'll get your cut."

It was close to 4 PM now. Carter had a couple hours for travel time and getting his preparations setup. As he speaks Marco slides over a piece of folded white paper. He allows Carter time to collect it before going on.

"As for your bill ..."

Now Marco places what looks like a black USB drive onto the tabletop. But it was Hadron-tech. Like the drones that Stronghold now used to augment their forces. A piece of technology manufactured at the Forge, the only means of industrial scale production of post-modern technology. The Forge was a futuristic marvel, a manufactory created, as well as a fortress. Now Stronghold had control of it.

"Get ahold of one of Stronghold's drones and insert this into it. Light turns green, bring the drive back to me, and you're all done. Just make sure no one sees you and the drone aint damaged. You have until the end of the week to do the job ... and don't try anything sly like looking at what's on the drive or messing with it."

You have until the end of the week to go the job ... and don't try anything sly like looking at what's on the drive or messing with it."

Return Of The First Born

After Marco left, he ordered a shot of Whiskey and chatted up the Waitress a bit(hopefully getting her number, but he wasn't banking on it).As he slow-sipped, Carter thought about what vehicle he was going to us for the hit. He'd just decided on a Dump Truck when Marco came back.

Taking the slip of paper, he'll read it once out of Flux(no need to be rude, after all). He grins a little as he takes the drive muttering
"Now this takes me back..."
he continues as he Stands(Downing the rest of his Whiskey)
"Couple of questions before i head out: How long does it take for the light to change and does it have to be a new model?"
Once he get's his awnser's, Snapdragon'll head for the Spot he needs to be as he'll check the paper out once he's outside(tipping his hat to the Waitress he hit up earlier with a grin as he leaves). As he starts the bike up, he considers what he knows about the drones...
OOC:Alright, let's do some thinking...

"It doesn't take more than a minute for the drive to do it's thing. As for the drone model ... we're talking about the type Imperator used."

... comes Marco's response to the questions about the drive's green light and the model of drone that the drive is supposed to be plugged into. Then Carter heads out and retrieves his motorcycle. Thinking back over his experience with, and conversations about, the drones that Imperator employed to supplement his military and law enforcement ... he cannot think of one incident where someone tried to physically pull one out of the sky with a tether. He also never so them used to carry loads.

He knows that they're small for the amount of firepower they can put out. Their weapon systems are actually modular, ranging from non-lethal tasers to tank busting rockets. They move about as fast as a car but with greater mobility and the benefit of flight. Like the rest of Hadron City's infrastructure, hacking them is incredibly difficult. To even attempt to you have to physically connect to them, rather than being able to wirelessly connect over a distance.

Return Of The First Born

After getting out of the Ward, Carter headed back to the garage to put the Cycle up(he didn't want it or the car associated with this). Grabbing a mouthguard off his training gear, the young Pilot head's back to Autumn Dawn's Ward(again staching his sidearm deep into his backpack with his "Heist Outfit"), going the route he took out.

Once back in the Ward, Snapdragon will duck into an out of the way cubbyhole and "gets dressed".He'll also put on his sidearm(a .357 Ruger Vaquero), lightly humming "Streets of Laredo".He's still humming it as he "Pick's Up" the empty Garbage Truck from the lot, shutting off the alarm and easily starting her up. Quietly pulling up to his "Spot" at the T-junction in the Alleyway they had to go down, he covered his face with a Matte Black Baclava, Tinted Goggles and a Bandana and waited....
