When the salvage operation was coming to a close Imperious touched bases with Mickey. He reminded her of the ships orbiting the planet, and the one he had described as carrying the plague that the Tempestineers died from, he informs her that he will be away from Bastion for a time. His intent: to purge the disease from the dormant vessel. If he was fortunate, he would be able to retrieve useful information and resources from the craft as well. The priority was dealing with the disease, however. Shortly after this meeting Imperious left Bastion to carry out this task.

Taking to the skies, he flew through cloud and smog. Up to the darkness. Up to the ring of dead ships. Tombs for the forgotten. Zeroing in on the TAWS Dancer-upon-Oblivion he paused about a mile out from it. There he requested that Shi'Halal perform a scan of the vessel and it's interior.
OOC wrote:Imperious is going to speed up way up to the TAWS Dancer-upon-Oblivion, then stop and take his time scanning it from a distance.

The skies above Rustdeity are choked with fog and ash and smog, and punching through them is almost like taking a leap of faith. Imperious bullets past the cloudlayer and emerges up...into cold nothing. The Infinite blackness is a Sargasso Sea of destroyed vessels, shattered space stations and other less identifiable debris. It was almost like a funeral shroud, full of jagged edges.

Turning Shi’Halal’s extensive sensor suite up and outward, finding the Dancer-upon-Oblivion is surprisingly simple. It’s orbit has clearly stabilized over countless centuries, making predicting its movements simplistic. It floated like a hermetically sealed coffin of titanium and quantumalloy.

The interior of the ship registers as dead and lifeless. The hydroponics bay died long ago, and the air has since turned toxic. But now, Imperious sees the horrible effects of TEGS. The crew are mutated beyond belief, all limbs and right angles and strange protuberances somewhere between external organs and slashing-weaponry. Dead, thankfully. All of them dead.

The ship’s engines and weapons are dead, and life-support will need a major overhaul to get working again. It’s sealed systems are intact, meaning it is not open to the vacuum of space, but is bone-chillingly cold, nonetheless. The comma Array still work (obviously!), and its computer systems are functional but in what Enginseer called ‘dreaming mode’.

There’s a single hatch allowing emergency entrances and exits via spacewalk, but the ship also possesses a single docking extension, allowing other ships to connect to it. That docking tunnel has been torn to shreds by some great explosive force...

After reviewing Shi'Halal's sensor readings Imperious closes the distance between himself and the ship. Angling for the emergency hatch he sets down a couple feet away from the hatch, and enters through it. Once inside he take stock of his immediate surroundings before making his way towards the bridge. On his trek he inspects the things, and bodies, around him, in grim silence. It was horrible. He only hoped these people's deaths served a purpose before the disease overtook them. Once on the bridge Imperious began looking over the equipment there, checking for power. As he does this he speaks to the equipment he wore under Shi'Halal's helmet.

Pinging, now,” the Encephalon says.

A moment later, the Encephalon replies. “No Icons detected. No Datasphere links appear active.

As he stands on the bridge, a noise begins to fill his ears...music. Strangely jaunty and merry, it sounds distorted and tinny and unnatural. It’s clearly coming from somewhere deeper in the ship.
OOC:
In case you feel like looking it up, the song is Tiny Tim’s “Living in the Sunlight”.

"Thank you for the search. You may dectivate Encephalon."

Shortly after giving the device it's que to shut down he paused as the sound of music. Turning his head he glanced over his shoulder and back towards the bridge's entry way. The ship was supposed to be in sleep mode. There had been no signs of life. No Icons. After a verse of the song, Imperious frowned. It was unbefitting of the tomb ship. Straightening his head he looked over the controls available on the bridge and began to attempt the process of waking the dormant ship. Or at least enough to get into it's data. He needed to know what was required to get the decontamination process consisted of, and how to get it in motion. While he and Shi'Halal works to this end he spoke aloud to the ship itself.

"Dancer-upon-Oblivion, it is time for you to wake. At least for a little while. Do you know if there are any synthetics or hostiles aboard?"

The ship gave a long, drawn-out yawn. “Whozzat? Whozzat botherin’ me? Go ‘way? ‘M sleepin’.

Meanwhile, the sound of the music gets louder.

"Get yourself together. We have work to do."

Imperiously mildly scolded the space craft. Between console commands at the computer terminal he thumped a fist against the hull. Not hard enough to deal structural, but enough to give the impression of trying to physically rouse the machine. After a minute he paused in his labors and listened. The sound of music had gotten louder. Something was moving. His brow furrowed in a thoughtful fashion behind Shi'Halal's faceplate. Stepping back from the console he turned around and looked to the entrance of the bridge. After considering the prospect of a conflict on the bridge, he decided to move away and back into the corridors beyond. He moved with care, peering through walls, and making an effort to conceal the sound of his movements as he went forth to investigate the source of the music.

The song comes to an end, and a new song begins.
OOC:
In case you’re wondering, it’s Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”.
Imperious hears riotous laughter, and a feeling of warmth overcomes him for a moment. Then, the song suddenly stops, the warmth fades away and the ship is again cold, dead and silent.

Imperious' eyes narrow in a thoughtful fashion. The song started playing after his arrival on the bridge. When he did not investigate it right away it grew in volume. Then it changed when he began to make an effort at stealthily approaching the source. It was possible someone observed him. Was music communication or simple efforts to garner attention? In either case, Imperious ceased his efforts to go unnoticed after experiencing the warmth, laughter, and change in song. Feeling that the medbay was where the music has came from, he begins making his way there while taking an accounting of the horrors present even as he moved.

"Hello."

… he said aloud upon arriving at the grotesque scene. As if greeting anyone unseen that might be listening. The people were clustered together. There was terror on their face. Which seemed to contrast, if they feared themselves or one another. Suggesting they feared something else. Randomly he thumped a fist against the medbay wall and abruptly spoke to the ship.

"Wake up Dancer-upon-Oblivion."

After barking at the dormant spacecraft Imperious began looking around the medlab. Both to see what stock and equipment was present, as well as to look for something that may have been producing the music.

"What happened here? Is this more than the TEGS? Is there something that you want me to see?"

… again Imperious spoke to the air. Inviting communication from the medlbay and it's occupants.

A dull voice comes from one of the gurneys: “...still here...”. And falls silent.
A sad whisper comes from a surgical scalpel: “...the light forsook us...”. And falls silent.
A chair hisses: “...it still hunts...”. And falls silent.

Meanwhile, the spirit of the ship itself speaks, and says, “Cold. Cold. Cold. Cold. Warm us our heart. Warm us our extremities. Warm us our skull. Warm us, that we shall move with new purpose. To sleep so long then waken is painful...and difficult. Warm us, traveler, warm us!

The light forsook them ... and it still hurt. Imperious' lips pressed together into a thin line as he listened to the voices. Was the ship and it's crew betrayed, or did they suffer briefly fire? He mused on this, but did not ask aloud. Maybe it was best to let sleep those things he did not require to be alert and aware during the decontamination process. This thought was reinforced when he heard the ship rousing and explain that waking from it's slumber was painful. He'd been distracted by the music. Whatever the source, it was not immediate apparent, and whomever or whatever had initiated it was not making itself into an obvious threat. It was time he got back on task.

Speeding off to the bridge once more Imperious took a quick check of the wake-up protocols, then he departed from the bridge and began making his way towards the generator room. While inspected the new room he spoke aloud to Shi'Halal, consulting her as he lacked any actual technical knowledge.

"The ship needs power. How do we feed the old machine the energy it needs?"
OOC wrote:While on the bridge Imperious is going to check up on the wake-up progress of the computers.

He'll also consult with Shi'Halal concerning the getting the ship's fusion core up and running then follow her directions:

Shi’Halal spoke, “We need access to the ship’s computers—-which I have now done—-and we need to order the ship to prime the fusion reactor—-which I am doing...now?

The whole ship rumbled all at once, and the intercom squawked to life, bellowing, |-<ALL PERSONAL PLEASE REPORT TO WORKSTATIONS! RADSHIELDS ACTIVATING! WARNING! WARNING! RADCOUNT SPIKE IN PROGRESS! ENACTING CLARKE PROTOCOL. PLEASE REMAIN AT YOUR WORKSTATIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.>-|

As Shi'Halal explains what she is doing Imperious moves over to a computer terminal and tries to read the data as it comes out on screen. THen, after she finishes, the ship shudders. Grasping hold of the terminal he stood over Lucas braces himself. A moment later the intercoms come to like with their announcement and directions. Looking up he turns his head to the direction of the nearest intercom. He listens but does not move away. Radspike … forsaken by the light. Imperious considered and compared these phrases from two different sources. Had the ship been subjected to a nuclear attack?

"What is happening? Is this a continuation of the ship's last actions before going into dormancy or an automatic response to present circumstances …?"

I am not sure,” Shi’Halal admitted. “Checking now...Lucas, it appears we have a core leak. It will take weeks to repair, but criticality is unlikely. Thankfully, I can completely shield you from radioactivity. The ship should be powering up now. As to what ‘the Clarke Protocol’ is I am not sure.
