The teenage shock trooper charges in, swinging her metal boomerable point first, like a pickaxe, for one of the enemy combatants. Her aim is true and she strike the center mass of the woman's vest ... but the point doesn't break through the kevlar and metal plate combination of materials meant to protect the wearer's most vital organs from the worst of attacks. Like Mel's. With a sideways swip the riflewoman knocks Mel's hand away and thrusts the butt of her rifle at Mel's face, forcing her to take a step back and create some room between them.

As a note, you may use Power Attack to increase the DC of your Damage. I am not going to tell you the Defenses of NPCs, however. Assessment can give you an idea of how they compare to you, though it may not be worth the time to do so in the midst of combat

Jamie Kane
HP: 1 Condition: fatigued
Burning a HP to bring Jamie to fatigued from exhausted. Now at 1 hp.
Jamie had to escape. Anika was in danger. She was highly trained but outnumbered and there were prisoners, Russel and himself for starters and maybe others. Jamie rolled off his abductor and lashed out with a foot to the person's kneecap.

Jamie drop from the shoulder of the man carrying him then makes a quick kick at the camo clad combatant's knee. Alert and on edge, he's ready for an attack. Raising his leg Jamie's kick goes right under his foot, then he lowers his foot back to the ground just after the sweeping kick passes by.

There is a flurry of activity from your foes. Russel's dead weight is dropping onto the ground without much consideration for damage that might befall him from such a fall. The formation of armed men and woman moves with discipline, not breaking rank or dispersing, but rather peals away from the melee combatants as a unit. Lead shooters pick targets and secondary gunners fire suppressively. Anika and Jamie get pinned by the distracting fire and find themselves caught off guard by the primary attacks as their armor penetrating dart punch painfully into their bodies.

From her cover around the corner of the building Anika screams in pain when the dart hits her. The scream is cut short as she falls limply to the ground.
OOC wrote:The Antagonist evades Jamie's attack. Remember, you may choose to take 10 when attacking Minions.

The Antagonist holding Russel uses a Free Action to drop him. Then half the Antagonist Aid the other half. Each of them makes one attack against each of you, and one against Anika. Yes, against Russel too. Jamie woke up … he might as well, now or later. Better to be safe.

Jamie and Anika are hit. Jamie, make a DC 17 Fortitude check.

Anika fails her check and falls Unconscious.

Russel is up.

Russel Briggs
HP: 3 LP: 1
CND: Exhausted

Russel knew the jig was up when Jamie began making difficulty and he was being foisted off unceremoniously.

He scrambles his tired body up and into a shuffle-step lurch toward Mel. When he gets practically to her feet he let's gravity claim him to the ground once again. The attackers could always come up to him for melee attacks but his previous wrestling training made him more comfortable on the ground than most and the prone position might prevent more darts from finding a home in his body.

"Mel, drop down that sidearm when you get the chance, please." he croaks through a dried mouth, still cottony from the sedatives.

Darts whisper past Russel as he crouch walks his way over to Mel. So close he can feel the breeze of of their passing. Further incentive for him to go prone at that time. Now at Mel's feet, he's greeted with the image of a madwoman who been whirling around a bloody and dented toaster over her head before tossing it aside so that she could better use her spike-ended boomerang and pistol. Still, she danced beautifully.

As if this weren't a chaotic enough scene, with Russel on his stomach, Mel and Jamie facing off against a squad of camo-clad maybe-soldiers using high-tech dart guns, a car come zooming down the alleyway Anika was sprawled out on the floor on. It was a bland green four door. Something by Toyota, as designated by the company's logo on the grill of the car. At a glance the three teens can see a familiar face in the passenger seat. Maryanne had supplied their getaway vehicle as Anika promised.

Roughly three minutes ago Maryanne had followed Anika down the blanket-rope from Rodney's room to the sidewalk at street level. There was no hiding. They were in the open. The street was right there. Anika wasn't thinking about that though, she told Maryanne that she was going to try to save Jamie, and expected to ambush their assailants with Mel at the back of the building. She wanted Maryanne to get them a car. Maybe Maryanne thought about just getting away and leaving the others. That was the safe move. But it also meant she'd loose access to not just Rodney, but Russel. The only two people she'd come in contact with the potential to find Jacob.

Thinking quickly Maryanne began to walk away from the site of her departure from the attack of the Foster home. She couldn't reach out to her contacts. There was an enemy on the doorstep, they might intercept a civilian transmission from her phone. Even if that weren't the case they'd never arrive in time. She couldn't steal a car. That risked alarms and she had no idea how to hotwire a vehicle. So … she tried to flag down someone driving by. It eventually worked. A green four door Toyota pulled over, driven by a man heading home from work. Maryanne told him a story. Convinced him to give her and her friends a ride. They were waiting behind that building over there …

Back to the present, as the vehicle drives down the alley way Maryanne catches sight of Anika on the ground. She has a pair of pistols in her hands, each of them ending in suppressor attachments. Over her pajama top is a light Kevlar vest, likely intended to be worn under clothes rather than on top. At the end of the alley the car stops, lights cast on the battle going on between the three standing First Generation and their assailants. To her left, in the driver's seat, the man she had duped into helping her in providing a getaway for her companions, looks on about to freak out at what he sees.

"What the hell is going on here?"
OOC wrote:Russel's actions are good. Keep in mind that Russel is still Mentally Impaired from his boogers-in-the-mouth Complication. He can get ride of it by using a Move Action to clean his mouth. Right now it hasn't impacted his actions mechanically.

Maryanne and The Driver enter the scene. Maryanne, you may roll Initiative or choose to enter the order after Russel.

The Driver is a normal guy and was not expecting to pick up people in the middle of a shootout. Maryanne, you are going to need to do something to convince him to be cooperative.

Jamie and Mel are up.

Mel Sarah
HP: 0
CND: Fatigued, otherwise fine

An almost supernatural calm look fell over Mel now holding the bloodied metal boomerang and pistol as she eyed the formation. The darts reminded her of some unpleasant war games setup for almost a similar situation excepting she had a cohesive highly trained team established for this sort of fighting. By now, explosions would be going off, gas would be tossed, and other havoc would be happening to disorient the formation. As it was though, she had what she had. Dropping the pistol that still had the safety on as she never intended to use it for a projectile shooter, she maintained her gaze that was hard to tell if it was madness or combat nirvana.

"Lets show them how we dance.", said Mel looking at Jaime her voice focused with the clear intention of charging the soldiers. Before going though, she gave a quick down to Russel and over at the people in the car. "Get Anika and we will join you in the car. Maybe even come pick us up if you want to play some bowling.", said Mel with a scary smile. It was the kind of smile that wasn't menacing, but also not quite normal. It was made all the more unnerving by the blood that slowly dripped from the boomerang.

Like a rubber band, the calmness snapped as she charged the formation. With the business end of her boomerang, she is like a mad ballerina graceful as a swan yet lethal as a tiger. Her movements were designed to get closer to the car for an exit yet still give the people falling back some cover. One couldn't tell by her movements, but she knew there wasn't much time. Something was amiss since they weren't swamped by Stronghold yet. The sooner they got out, the sooner they could get to the business of help becky plus the other captives.

Maryanne Fairweather
HP: 1
Condition: Fatigued

"Oh dear." Maryanne replied. "They seem to be under attack by some dangerous, secretive-looking militant unit." She turned to look at the driver, a placid expression on her face. "And that leaves you in something of a pickle, doesn't it? You're involved in this now, after all. You've seen them, and they've seen you. And they won't want to leave any witnesses. So it's very much in your best interest to make sure we all get out, isn't it?"

She leaned in closer, speaking even more quickly now, pouring on the fear before his logical side really had a chance to process it. "After all, even if you kick me out now and speed away, they already know you were here. They'll interrogate us about you if they catch us, of course, and oh, the things I could tell them. Like the fact that I've known you for years and you've been involved from the very beginning, for instance. I can be very convincing, you know. I already know your name and license plate; it wouldn't be hard for them to find you. And if they're willing to shoot at children, well, imagine what they'd do to you.

"So, I think you'd better make sure me and my friends all get to safety so that you can make a clean getaway yourself, right? Go back to your comfortable home, relax, and pretend this was all just a terrible dream. You want that, don't you? You want that more than anything else. So I think it'd be a very good idea if you turned off the headlights before they see your face, sit tight, and wait here for everyone so we can all get out of this together."

Once (or if) she was satisfied that he wasn't going anywhere, Maryanne gave him a bright little smile before leaping out of the car and ducking low to the ground, moving towards Anika's comatose body.

Move Action: If she's satisfied that the driver won't cut and run, move to Anika. (Uncertain exactly how far away she is, if she's not within 15ft Maryanne just moves as close as possible.)

Jamie Kane
HP=1 Condition: Fatigued

Yet another dart penetrated his body. Jamie briefly wondered just how much ammunition they had. He willed his body to keep going and ignore the additional drugs now pumping into him.
Fortitude check: 1d20+6: 23 [1d20=17] http://orokos.com/roll/764331
Jamie leaped to his feet. Rage began to build within him. These people were shooting at teenagers! Granted at least a few of them were highly trained teenagers. More importantly, they shot Anika! They were going to pay for that. Jamie heard the girl from the party, Mel, tell someone to get Anika to the car. He had to trust that she was on his side for now and not a spy or traitor.

Secure with the knowledge that Anika was being looked after, he directed his attention to the attackers.

"You shot a girl! That's not very nice! You've made me very angry!" hevscreamed at the attackers before swinging a mighty fist at the one closest to him.
Using Instant Up to get to his feet as a free action. Taking 10 on the attack and power attacking for +2/-2 for an attack check of 17. Save DC 20. Takedown 2.

The driver was on the ends of freaking out. Putting the car in reverse and speeding off. But Maryanne's words gave him pause. They drew him in and made him listen. He stared at her, eyes widening more an more as she spoke.

"What? I didn't … what?! You wouldn't … what?!?! Fine. Just hurry up you little bi …."

Each 'what' was exclaimed louder than the last, as he couldn't believe what was going on. The final acceptance and unfinished slur faded into noise as Maryanne slid out of the car and was already making her way to Anika. She had hooked him. She didn't need to stay and listen to whatever meaningless drivel fell out of this nobody's mouth.
OOC wrote:As mentioned in the OOC thread, that is most certainly not Persuasion. It is an effort to Intimidate. For now I will assume you are alright with that. If you want to change things, I'll give you until Maryanne takes her next action to do so. The Intimidate is a success, meaning they are cooperative for now, however it will turn this person hostile towards Maryanne. Be careful who you use Intimidate on.

Maryanne is able to make it to Anika this turn. She will need to spend a Move Action to pick Anika up and a Move Action to bring her over to the car. Setting her down inside (not buckled in or anything comfortable) can be done with a Free Action.

Jamie and Mel leap into action, pressing the attack against the gunmen who had fallen back after the teenager's previous attack. Their viscious and brutal blow hit home, but the enemy combatants are made of sturdy stuff. Taking their knocks and fending off blows each of their targets weather the attacks from the two First Generation. As before when faced with attacks at close range, the eight move as move, withdrawing, but moving in a circular patter that allowed them to put Mel and Jamie between them and the building exit they had early came out from. While on the move they fired their weapons. The soft thff, thff, thff dwarfed by shouting from the teens and the engine of the newly arrived car.
OOC wrote:The Antagonists are both hit, but both make their Toughness checks versus Mel and Jamie. They are rolling really well.

As with the previous round the first four Antagonists Aid the latter half. Each of the PCs is attacked once. Russel is the only one hit. Make a DC 17 Fort save Russel.

Russel and Maryanne are up.

Russel Briggs
HP: 3 LP: 1
CND: Exhausted

Russel was starting to see why they lost. These combatants could make the fairly difficult shot of hitting a prone target while having two enemies within their midst. The Imperator's loyal forces had a bad habit or the bad luck to earn foes that were entirely too competent.

Russel fought through the drug in his system and wondered if they had sterilized the dart tips after shooting whatever Elephant or Hippopotamus they had previously been hunting with these things.
Fort: 1d20+5 21
He scrambled to get the dropped gun. The three actions for anyone well trained with guns were automatic - check magazine/see round is chambered/safety off, should take no time.

He knew if he stood he'd just present an easier target and it was awful long hobble back to Anika. His only hope, all of their hopes maybe was to thin out the attackers somewhat. He took a bead on one of the armored attackers and opened fire with a cough of suppressed sound.
[Move action - retrieve gun, Standard action -try to thin out enemies, take 10 +11 attack -2 Impaired, -2 to hit/+2 DC gives a 17 to hit combatants, DC20 Toughness. Ignore any cover granted by my allies.]

As the soldiers put the door behind the two teens making human wall of sorts to the car, Mel knew it was working. They had focused on Jaime and Mel. Both, she figured could get out of the maneuver that was textbook military tactics, exactly what Mel was trained to counter. That was when a bullet, presumably fired from Russel sounded like it hit the armour. "Don't shoot, get to the car!", exclaims Mel agitated. "I have the guards right where I want them. There is too many to fight for long with more teams coming. We need to run now.", continues Mel with an annoyance in her voice that carried a hint of one of her sterner trainers who berated her before for being stupid in combat.

Mel realized that, in a matter of seconds the enemy is going to block off Jamie, Russel, and herself from their getaway vehicle. There is also the possibility that they could take measures to disable the car if you give them the time to do so. Further, Jamie, Russel, and Mel are forced to turn their backs to the building. This means that when enemy reinforcements come, none of you three will be able to see the attack coming. You'll be blindsided by it. If these things weren't bad, Mel figures that this group's exit of the building means that the operation was wrapping up. That implies the other squads were likely already on their way out when this fight began. They don't even need to exit the building to effectively strike against your small group. They can rush to the windows, at ground level or above. Those reinforcements aren't going to be here in minutes, they are most likely going to be in a position to attack you with far greater numbers in less than half a minute since the fight began.
OOC wrote:To say it straight, by their next turn the forces you are facing will block you from the vehicle. If they do that, escape for Mel, Jamie, and Russel will be much more difficult. You can try to delay this, but you need to make serious effort towards leaving. Standing still and planting your feet, trying to thin out the enemy numbers, is a loosing strategy. There are more on their way.

Also, pure meta-gaming, Mel has no HP left and is already Fatigued. One good hit and she is down.

A quick assessment of the situation was grim. Getting to the car and escaping was now or never. "We need to go now. Everyone, get to the car! They will be on us from the windows and block us here in less than 30 seconds. Probably sooner.", says Mel as if barking orders. All signs of the happy go lucky teen girl had vanished like the mild mannered bruce banners transformation. Before the full assessment, it seemed like she was having a little fun. Now, it is clear its follow her or get left behind.

While Jamie and Mel fend off the masked militants, endeavoring to by time for a retreat, Maryanne hooks her arms under Anika's armpits and drags her over to the green Toyota waiting at mouth of the alley way. Maryanne is a thinker, not a heavy lifter, but he toughs it out and endures the labor. No doubt expecting some form of social credit to build up with Jamie and Anika from the endeavor. Once at the car she uses a hand to jerk open the back door. With the barrier unbarred, she grunts her way into loading the dead weight of an athletic teenage girl into the back seat.

Between Maryanne and the two melee warriors, Russel lays on his stomach lining up a shot on one of the enemy combatants. Snapping off a round the small caliber slug impacts center mass. The military grade body armor, a sturdy vest the covered from and sides of the torso, save the life of it's wearer. Doing credit to it's makers and emboldening the militant who wore it. Russel soon found that particular shooter aiming their rifle at him. It looked like someone wanted payback ...

Maryanne uses her turn to get Anika into the car.

Mel and Jamie are up.

Mel knows that this round the Antagonists will cut Jamie, Russel, and herself off from the car once their turn comes around. Unless something is done to prevent that. Right now you have a clear line of retreat to the car. Once the enemy is in position you will have to fight your way through them to get to the car. That could take several rounds, and enemy reinforcements are only a few rounds away.
