Mysuggestion would be look at some armor. While not getting hit is best, having some damage resistance is always good. Though keep in mind you only resist one point for every 10 armor you have for a particular damage type, so there is no purpose in having less than a multiple of 10 in at least one damage type.

It was my first thought, but with only 58 silver to spend I think I'll be able to buy a hat and have to call it a day ;~)

Fair point I guess. So yes, an emergency heal would not be the worse of ideas.

Do we have to buy initial ammo for our ranged weapons or do we get the first load free?

It seems we're in Primium, should we only be associated with the guilds of that nation or could we have been foreign? Would that affect guild items and resupply within the region? As well, I'm not finding anything that conclusively each of the guilds with a particular House.

Edit: What are the backgrounds and the various things granted by them?

Edit x2: Ark has helpfully provided the various background careers, so I'll be picking out... Academic.

I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't switch my character from a guild to being a Freelance Wielder. Seems to fit the background of my character better.

Because ammo is so expensive, starting with too much ammo can turn into too much money. Keeping in mind rifle rounds are 150 for ten, so a full clip would be effectively giving you 450 silver.

For our gun users then, what do they start with?

In some superhero worlds it's common for there to be a few people who manifest useless powers. Is it meant to be a common thing in Soulbound? The guy who only uses his bonded weapon as a toothpick, or the peasant who can't afford ammo for the cannon he's bonded to, or, like, anyone with a bound rock? Normally you don't have those guys as PCs but it's a possibility in this system.

By default, only what ammo they purchase. It's kind of hard to give free ammo since various weapons have different clip sizes and ammo types that cost different amounts.

It's also meant to be part of the balance for just how strong firearms can be, that you start off with a lessened ability to use your gun and have to improvise.

That said, I'll allow purchase of single bullets to bring the overall cost down at the start here, so at least you have a few bullets to your name to pull out if you need the firepower.

Hmm... Honestly, there's no such thing as a truly useless bond in soulbound, since they all give access to powerful magic.

Granted, some are less immediately evident in their usefulness, like the rock, but it's up to each weilder to make the most of what they end up with

Question; could I Dr back some of the starting equipmrnt from the background? I was asking that at first foe the Tobacco pipe, something she'd have no reason to use, but also as I noticed that as the only person with a horse... How useful actually would having that horse really be? Plus, we're escortingna trading convoy, so I'd expect we'd be hitcing rides on their own transport.

...Also It's 350 silver that could vanish in a deciever ambush, which might be more handy in the form of a weapon upgrade or maybe helping to purchase bullets.

You very well may sell back anything from your background for extra starting silver.

Went through my purchases:

Bandages - 5 sp
Elixir - 10 sp
Tent, Single - 18 sp
Two Bullets - 20 sp

I have 5 SP remaining.

Two shots and then the flintlock is a paperweight ;~)
Thankfully the sword is a good backup.
Also bought a tent since staying in an inn isn't going to be much of an option for long.

Deep thoughts on the Rulebook:
It's kind of interesting looking at the backgrounds from a gameplay perspective. The aristocrats start with a serious advantage in equipment and money, while the peasant starts with almost nothing.
I get the idea they're going for, you can certainly get a feel for how the rich are packing all the advantages in this setting.
On the other hand I'm wondering what the incentive is for players to play anything other than the background that kits them out.

Anyways, decided I'd try out the Freelancer Wielder, fits better with the background.
Does kind of mean there's even less gear in my future, but it does make tracking this stuff so much easier ;~)

Oh, and the question regarding the horse.

Of course it's main function is allowing to travel places faster but if you're the only one with a horse, it doesn't provide much benefit and you have to feed it.

Regarding the caravan, those of you without your own tent and the like will be riding in a covered wagon, and probably sleeping there too if you don't possess a tent.
