@Brandon - the auras of the people in the room seem ordinary. There is no one magically active in the room.

@Conner - You are about 100 ft from Emil and his colleagues when they come out about 5 minutes later looking casual. They have hands in pockets. Their pockets also seem to have something about handgun size in ttheir pockets.

At that moment the fire alarms go off.and the sprinklers activate.

Douglas Reach
HP: 1
CND: Fine

Douglas wasn't doing much more than observing as the trial went on. He didn't pace or stray from his post. The man didn't intend to until it came his turn to do a patrol. That didn't happen though. Fire alarms went off. Sprinkles activated. Briefly he glanced upwards to the sprinklers overheard. Turning in place he made his way towards the door, and stopped at the side of the doorway, ready to steer the men guarding the prisoners back to the holding area if they chanced to bring them to them out with everyone else. As he moved he contacted Sergeant Grant.

"Is there any visual confirmation on the fire?"

Brandon scowls slightly. Did he really want to say this over the radio?

Finally, necessity wins out. "I am sensing magic in play, but no one in the courtroom."

He switches his focus from people's auras to magical frequencies.

Danni Morgan

Danni shook her head, only half in disgust- the water in a sprinkler system had often been there for years, and while it wasn't quite sewer water it was still gross... "Yeah, this sounds like a set-up, trying to flush everybody outside and make a move in the chaos. Regular fire wouldn't set off ALL the sprinklers. I'm headed to the courtroom for now."

>OOC: Just double-checking- is it ALL the sprinklers, whole building? Or just one particular area? Either way, Danni is headed to the courtroom for now, unless we get better info.

@Brandon...you think it was some sort of observation spell centered near the two officers.

@Danni- at this stage all you can confirm visually is the main corridor has sprinklers going off.

An automated voice is telling everyone to move to the emergency exits.
There is some panic. The radio is filled with chatter. The guards in the courtroom seem unsure what to do and are trying to slow down the stampede to the emergency exit.. The cops on trial are already heading for the emergency exit.

@Conner. You can see some smoke coming out of the toilet door.

Brandon doesn't like this. Too much chaos and the officers on trial seem eager to take advantage of it.

He slaps his hand on the door jam and says "Protego!" A outline of light and symbols surround the door.

They might be able to bull rush past him, but there is no way they are getting past this without some extra firepower.

"Calm down. We need to secure the exit. If we rush out of here, we could run right into the fire."

He isn't sure just how many people present knew about his special status, but that just jumped to 100% now.

"I have secured the exit, awaiting go signal that the exit path is clear... of fire," he says into his radio. Hopefully, Douglas could hear through the crazy and that he was more concerned about a fire being not the real threat.

He also activates his magical wards as precautionary.

"I got eyes on a possible source of the fire. Emil Haviera and his crew just left a bathroom [insert location] with something that looks like a handgun possibly in their pockets.", remarks Conner over the comms trying not to say it loud enough for Emil to hear. It could have been a gun or it could have been nothing. Either way, Conner was going to know. "Going to find out what happen in that bathroom. Over", adds Conner over the comms.

He quickly takes off weaving through people to catch up to Emil's crew. It was like a rush that he heard cheetahs describe to him when racing after prey. This time the prey was Emil's crew. Upon catching up, Conner made a point of positioning himself between them and their path. "What happen in the bathroom? I was on patrol and saw you three walk out and now there is smoke. Is everyone ok?", inquires Conner looking for signs of lying or indication of impending attack.

@Brandon... the panicked people in the courtroom are bottlenecked at the fire exitincluding the two cops on trial. Upon seeing the blocked door some bang inneffectually on the shield. Others cower in that corner while a few are heading for the doors to the corridor.

@Conner initiative please.

Layout of courtroom.
Southwest Corner. Doors to main corridor.
Middle of Eastern Wall. Fire exit to foreexit corridor.
Northwestern corner. Door to judge's chambers. Northeastern corner. Door to stairs leading to holding cells.
Judges Bench. Northern side.
Jury Box Southern side
Lawyer's benches middle of room.

Public area behind jury box and lawyers bench, seperated by solid wooden rail.

Emil Haviera and cronies are 10 ft from the door to the male toilets in the main corridor facing towards your courtroom and moving towards you.

While the courtroom security pulled attention from the prisoners and turned to trying to manage the ground, Douglas made his way towards the to men that were being prosecuted. Noting Brandon's actions, and over hearing what he has said, Douglas gives his teammate a nod. Then called out over the coms. Right now he couldn't check the exit, given that Brandon's barrier was in the way, but both Conner and Danni on the outside.

"Archer, check the rout leading out from the fire exit."

When he arrived near the two officers on trail he signaled them with one hand as he spoke to the pair.

"You two stick with me. We're making sure the route is clear before letting people leave."

The fire exits from the courtrooms join to a single corridor leading to a single fire exit (like at movie theatres sometimes).

Danni you are behind Emil and crew. 110 ft away.

@Conner. Emil and posse can clearly see you forcing your way through the crowd to them. Their action is to turn and head head toward the fire ext corridor, pushing their way through the crowd.

"Stop rushing. I need to know what happen in that bath room. You'll get out safe soon enough Emil.", says Conner. Seeing the brothers bolting as was possible in the crowd, Conner leapt into the air to pounce on Emil. If the crew was up to something, without the leader they'd be less effective.
Using Leaping to tackle Emil.

Brandon keeps eyes on the two officers. They might be thinking of escaping during the confusion which is probably what bad guys would be exploiting.

@Conner ooc awesome. It is a courthouse so the corridor ceilings are high enough. Make a hit roll. It is a little more challenging because he is in a group of people.

@Brandon - the two men see you watching and are suddenly a lot less keen to get away.

@Danni.. make a notice check for me.

Danni Morgan

Danni started moving forward to help Conner deal with these guys. Over her commlink she let the others know what was going on. "We may have a situation out here, I'm moving to support Knight. Can you evac the targets the way they came in, instead of the regular fire exit?"

As soon as she was done, she kept moving forward, trying to close the distance towards whatever was going to happen. She put one hand on her pistol, but idi not, yet, draw...

I thought I remembered that the prisoners had a dedicated route from the holding cells to the courtroom (and hen to the garage level). Was that stairs or elevator? (might be way better than going out the front door, and with a building this big a small fire shouldn't be a hindrance
