King of Fighters - Moveset Showcase Videos (Main Series Games Done)

Post by KorokoMystia »

Wasn't sure which area to post this in, but eh.
So I was writing up moveset descriptions of the KOF characters for Jab's thread, and then I thought since I was having to play the games to write up the moves, I may as well just record the footage and create some moveset showcase videos instead.

Most of the videos will be using the movesets of the characters as they appear in the '98 Ultimate Match or 2002 Unlimited Match games, and if they don't appear in those games either their debut game or their most recent appearance will be used.
(Note that I'm not doing videos on the characters already statted by Jab, which includes anybody from Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting that appears in KOF.)

Progress: Almost done! Everyone from '94 to XIV is accounted for, and the EX games are also done. Still working on the Maximum Impact characters.

These are unspeakably awesome, dude. This instantly makes so many of these guys EASILY stattable :). Hell, I can probably stat up these guys right after the Monster in My Pocket set at this rate!!

Lucky's video is unavailable for some reason, but I got the other two down.

I'm glad to be of help! I've fixed the link to his video now (it looks like I just made a typo, so hopefully there aren't any other broken links). I'm going down the list in order of game debut. (I just added Whip's video now, in fact)

Sweet! And as payment for doing this incredible favor for me, I now plan on adding Samurai Shodown's five new characters as soon as I'm done the Monster In My Pocket set!

Oh, and I utilized your little videos already...

BRIAN BATTLER
Game Appearances:
King of Fighters '94 & '98 only
Role: Joke Character, Simple Fighter, Abandoned Fighter
PL 7 (89)
STRENGTH
4 STAMINA 4 AGILITY 2
FIGHTING 6 DEXTERITY 0
INTELLIGENCE 0 AWARENESS 0 PRESENCE 0

Skills:
Acrobatics 4 (+6)
Athletics 6 (+10)
Close Combat (Unarmed) 4 (+10)
Deception 1 (+4)
Expertise (Dancing) 7 (+10)
Expertise (Music) 7 (+10)
Insight 2 (+3)
Persuasion 2 (+5)

Advantages:
Improved Critical (Brian Tornado), Improved Critical (Hyper Tackle), Improved Critical (Rocket Tackle)

SNK Fighting Style: Accurate Attack, All-Out Attack, Defensive Roll, Extraordinary Effort, Fast Grab, Improved Defense, Improved Hold, Improved Trip (Throw), Power Attack, Takedown, Withstand Damage (Block)

Powers:
"Brian Tornado" Strength-Damage +0 (Extras: Multiattack 4) (Flaws: Distracting) Linked to Affliction 4 (Toughness; Dazed & Vulnerable/Stunned & Defenseless) (Extras: Extra Condition) (Flaws: Limited Degree) (6) -- [9]
  • AE: "Tiger Driver" Strength-Damage +2 (Feats: +2 to Hit if Opponent Parried Last Turn) (Inaccurate -1) (2)

Initiative +2

Defenses:
Dodge +8 (DC 18), Parry +9 (DC 19), Toughness +4 (+5 D.Roll), Fortitude +6, Will +4

Complications:
Motivation (Hurting People)- Brian has a history of violent behavior, and finds pleasure in tackling his opponents.
Weakness (Predictability)- SNK Characters cannot simply "spam" out the same attack over and over again, as the opponent will expect the attacks, and be ready for them (and a counterattack). The third time they try the same technique (or same combo of techniques) in a short span, they will be at -2 to Accuracy, AND to his Active Defenses in that round. All will decrease by 2 every successive round the same move is done.

Total: Abilities: 32 / Skills: 38--19 / Advantages: 3 + 11 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 15 (89)

-Among the more famous examples of characters just getting dumped from a Fight Game series are the "American Team" (and believe me, THAT designation is deliberate), which has turned into a running gag. Brian Battler, Lucky Glauber and Heavy D! were a trio of sports stars who represented the U.S. in the King of Fighters tournament, but were easily defeated. And then, in subsequent games, some upstarts would run in and destroy them to take their invitations- first the "New Faces" team (Chris, Yashiro & Shermie) in '97, and the Vanessa/Ramon/Seth team in 2000.

-Battler is a top-heavy, Caucasian player of American Football- he was meant to be from the SNK game Football Frenzy, as most KoF characters were meant to come from other SNK games. His design is... ludicrously simple. He's just some big dude in regular clothes with some weird piece of armor on his shoulder, presumably to make his dumb football stuff come off better.

-Battler's Football-themed fighting style is actually somewhat similar to Balrog and other dash-happy strikers. His moves are actually REALLY cool, though- he fires out a TIGER DRIVER (Mistuharu Misawa's finisher) as his Grab, his Brian Tornado is a spinning shoulder tackle, he has an Anti-Air, and more. People have said that the American Team, despite being jokes, are just as devastating as anyone if played correctly. No tricks required.

Cool! The Samurai Shodown new characters are pretty good from what I've seen, and I like seeing the roster of builds updated. I'm also glad to see my videos put to use already, though of course I still have quite a bit work to do.

Cool! And hey, is this a complete list of every KOF fighter? So I won't have to actually dig through Fighters Generation again to find them? Because that's a big help, too, as I'm always losing my Master List version of the complete roster, lol.

It should be everyone! All the ones that aren't NPCs or Assist Characters, anyway. (though I left out the characters from other games that you've already statted, and a couple times I had to add characters to the list because I somehow missed them) I even included the exclusive characters from the GBA KOF EX games, and the 3D Maximum Impact games on the list!
