Capital City Adventures: Solo Superheroines, Part 1
And now for a bunch of random heroines from the setting. Most aren't real characters, they're just designs, looks, and concepts I came up with to fill certain niches and archetypes. I think Jab has a term for artists who create a lot of characters because of a look and not necessarily for any particular story relevant purpose, but I can't remember what it is.

Aquamarina
Water controller, part of a team of beach-based heroes along with Lifeguard, Mermaiden, and Torpedo.
Image

Arc Racer
Image

Atomic Girl
Image

Battle Queen
Something of a rival to Majesty. Would likely take her place in the event of Majesty retiring in-universe.
Image

Black Armata
Image

Bloody Mary
Image

Bombadear
Part of a duo with Bombshell.
Image

Bombshell
Part of a duo with Bombadear.
Image

Boudica
Image

Brickhouse
Image

Chantico
Is a famous dancer and performer at the Montezuma Casino in Capital City's pleasure district. Not really much of a heroine, for all her power and godhood.
Image

Cherry Pie
Image

Chesire Cat
Image

Cybergirl
Image

Deadgirl

Capital City Adventures: Solo Superheroines, Part 4

Raptoryx
Image

Red Fox
Image

Repairwoman
An associate of Techno-Girl.
Image

Roller Derby
Note: So funny story about this character. I actually came up with this design months before the reveal of GoGo Tomago's design for the Big Hero Six movie. Was a little perturbed at the extremely close similarities, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one.
Image

Sapphire Steel
Goldrush's sister. Also an MMA fighter, fitness model, and competitive bodybuilder and weightlifter. The two have a rivalry that veers between friendly and acerbic.
Image

Sarah Crowe
More of an anti-heroine than true hero, often prone to unleashing ancient evils and running away from other heroines after stealing something, but not really a "villain".
Image

Sepulchre
Image

Shakti
Image

Sibyl
Fellow protege of Nosimos alongside Shamaness.
Image

Silhouette
Image

Skadi
Image

Skyscraper
Image

Soldiergirl
Image

Speedwoman

Star Sentinel
Basically, the most powerful superhero of the setting. The end all, be all character.

So that's it for CCA for now (still not finished with all the villains yet, but I'm most of the way done), and for all the stuff I posted at the old thread. From here on out, all brand new things. :D

And now to move on from the extraordinarily endowed and scantily clad world of Capital City to something a bit more serious.

Thunder Woman

While she is far from my first superheroic creation, Thunder Woman has more or less become my star superhero character, a kind of mascot if you will. That she can stand alone when I mostly prefer superhero teams rather than solo characters says a lot really.

As this is an art thread and not a setting or build thread, I won't go into too much detail.

The basic gist is that Thunder Woman is Samantha West, a low level faculty member of a university, with aspirations to become a historical scholar and archeologist.

During a prospective dig at a site in Greece, she is transported into the dimension where the ancient Hellenistic deities and mythological beings reside in a kind of semi-dormancy. She becomes caught up in the schemes and machinations of the Dodekatheon, stopping a plot to overthrow the pantheon and bring Earth under the heel of a new Olympian regime. In the midst of these events she temporarily assumes the powers of a god, and as part of her reward for thwarting the coup she is allowed to keep these powers, with a choice between assuming them and retaining her humanity.

But when she comes back to her home city of Newport, the problems of Olympus follow her. Reluctantly she uses her powers to protect herself and her city, and comes to realize that she is literally the only defense Newport has against supervillainous and supernatural threats.

As a result, she becomes Thunder Woman, rising to prominence as a defender of the city, and as she grows in notoriety she becomes more and more involved in the affairs of the greater superhero community and even cosmic forces beyond Earth and the universe. All while balancing these things against the day-to-day struggles of her life, from struggling to earn a living, to advancing her professional career, to trying to find a meaningful romantic relationship.

So with all of that out of the way...

Samantha West
Thunder Woman's human alter ego, a woman constantly struggling to balance various aspects of her life, with her superpowered side only adding extras issues on top of that. You'd think it'd be great to have a perfect body and superpowers, and well yeah, it is great. Doesn't mean it doesn't have its downsides.

I put up more detailed explanations of these up on DA. It's an art thread, not a settings thread. If I do put up some sort of settings thread/bible, I'll probably post that stuff too. The little comments will have to do.

Anyway, moving on...

Casual
Something she might wear at her apartment or if she needed to go grocery shopping.
Image

Work
For when she's at Newport University teaching classes, doing paperwork, or helping one of the senior faculty on something.
Image

Business
For important meetings and that sort.
Image

Expedition
One of Samantha's favorite characters is Indiana Jones, so she's wanted to be an archeologist since she was a kid. It's why she's on the professional track she's on.
Image

Jogging/Workout
Gotta exercise to stay in shape and look good!
Image

Beachwear
Who doesn't like going to the beach? Rhetorical question.
Image

Formal Dress
One of the downsides of being faculty, even a relative small timer like Samantha? All the fundraisers and galas you have to attend. Moreso because of the pressure to look good than anything else.
Image

Night on the Town
An increasingly uncommon pleasure for Samantha as her responsibilities grow.
Image

Date Dress
At least, if they're going somewhere nice. Which she generally prefers.

Newport Defenders
Image
Naturally, like a lot of superheroes Thunder Woman attracts a set of recurring allies that help her out with some of the various enemies and threats she has to contend with. It gets to the point where some of the more common ones end up forming a kind of local "superteam" around her, dubbed the "Newport Defenders" by the city's media.

David Jacobs
An aspiring artist and writer who is one of Samantha's neighbors at the apartment building she lives in. Ends up becoming a love interest as they get entangled in each other's struggles.
Image
He attracts the patronage of the god Hermes, and as part of said patronage, gets a dagger that grants him a small measure of the god's mobility, along with glowing golden wings. David's not one for heroics though.
Image

Thunder Girl
Thunder Woman's sidekick, a Newport University student who received some of the heroine's powers during a battle between the heroine and an eldritch abomination.
Image
Image

Herakles
The literal Greco-Roman demigod and mythological hero, somewhat more mellow and tempered after a couple thousand years as a spirit in a hellish realm. Brought back to life by Zeus via literal deal with the devil so as to more directly assist Thunder Woman against Hera's increasingly apocalyptic schemes against Samantha.
Image

Interceptor
Local policewoman horribly injured in a firefight with the local Russian mafia and turned into a cyborg super-police officer by Newport's resident nefarious megacorp Consumer Advanced Merchantile. Ostensibly the prototype for a greater "enhanced cop" initiative, but ends up being one of only two.
Image

August Star
Son of an infamous fallen hero of the same name. Basically trying his best to overcome the memory of his father's deeds, not an easy task when you're the son of one of the most hated people in the world.

Dodekatheon (Greek Gods)

Post by bsdigitalq »

Dodekatheon
The "Twelve Olympians", aka, the classical Greco-Roman pantheon of gods. The dimensional realm where they reside, that includes their Olympus, as well as Hades, the Elysian Fields, and etc, has been out of alignment for over two thousand years and is coming back into alignment. This is what leads to Samantha entering it and thus setting off the events that result in her transformation into Thunder Woman.

Depicted below isn't the full pantheon, but merely the ones she most regularly interacts with or that play a role in her adventures. Excluded are ones that I have no set role for, or who are antagonistic, like Hera and Hephaestus. Herakles has already been posted. That said, "ally" in this case is a much more flexible term than with some of the other characters listed as such.

Zeus
Source of TW's powers, and yet another suitor. Far mellower than in the original myths; time changes even gods.
Image

Poseidon
Kind of moody, most likely to lose his temper. Hera attempts to exploit this at one point for a scheme.
Image

Hades
Suave, slick, and gentlemanly, not at all like traditional "satanic" depiction. Really, only dodgy thing about him is that as a ruler of Hades, he actually answers to the Infernal Empress, not Zeus, so he's sometimes torn between his different loyalties.
Image

Athena
Samantha's other main ally in Olympus. While Zeus is the source of TW's power, Athena is one of her more direct mentors in her newbie period.
Image

Ares
Not really much of an "ally" per se, but plays a major role in a story arc that involves TW getting caught up in some international wartime shenanigans.
Image

Hermes
Because the alignment is incomplete, most of the Greek gods still can't directly manifest in the "prime" dimension. There are some exceptions, like Hermes, whose nature allows him to more easily navigate the barriers between worlds. So he often serves as a way for Zeus and Athena to reach Samantha when they either can't or must not reach her.

It's taken me years to master it, and even then I think what helps is having a background in art and having a solid computer rig- some of the more complex designs will make your PC work as hard as many current gen games.

The Allegiance

Post by bsdigitalq »

The Allegiance
Image
There's a bunch of major superhero teams in the world that Thunder Woman is active in. One of the oldest and most regarded names in the game is The Allegiance, which has been around in one form or another for over fifty years. While Thunder Woman is not an official member, she has worked with them before, and is under consideration as a potential recruit.

Silver Centurion
A Roman centurion cursed with immortality who has adopted numerous personas over the millennia he's been alive.
Image

Dr. Quantum
A supergenius physicist and engineer whose experimental particle accelerator malfunctioned, fusing him with a form of "strange matter" that is steadily converting his body into more of itself. It's held in check by a high tech harness, and he's learned to harness the substance in various ways.
Image

Harmonika
Former pop-singer who gained sonic manipulation powers after a procedure to repair her damaged vocal cords and restore her voice went far beyond expectations.
Image

Megabeast
Reformed supervillain from a group known as the Beastiary, a group of mutant outcasts using violence to retaliate against their persecution. Used to be known as Behemoth. One of the strongest superheroes in the world.
Image

Blacksmith
Middle-Eastern engineer who came to possess the Hammer of Vulcan, a device imbued with magical properties that allows its user to perform alchemy for matter manipulation. He uses it to create constructs and a suit of power armor to fight off those who covet the hammer.
Image

Afterburner
Another celebrity type, this time from the realm of extreme sports. Actually took on superheroism as a way to try and deal with some personal insecurities he has.

SHE, Super-Heroines of Earth

Post by bsdigitalq »

SHE, Super-Heroines of Earth
Image
Another notable group that Thunder Woman sometimes associates with is the Super-Heroines of Earth, or SHE for short. As might be obvious, they are an international group of solely female superheroes who mix in their traditional superheroic activities with a healthy dose of campaigning for female empowerment and fighting against activities or practices harmful to women all across the world. Naturally, this additional dose of sociopolitical activism makes them highly controversial, and they get regularly criticized from both sides of the aisle. Thus, Samantha, who is fairly allergic to activism and social justice movements herself, has not accepted Justrix's offer to join them, although that doesn't prevent her from occasionally helping them out with more traditional heroic situations.

Ellen Wrench
A super-genius engineer, to the point where all her various high-tech devices, including her signature "wrench," overshadow her actual superpower to generate pocket dimensions.
Image

High Priestess
The High Priestess is one of the major arcane practitioners in the setting, a sort of champion of a group of feminine mystical entities.
Image

Jetstream
A Hispanic flying speedster.
Image

Justrix
The leader and co-founder, a blind woman who uses her gravity powers to compensate.
Image

Lady Winter
Other co-founder, a member of British nobility, which results in her putting off some folks with her mannerisms and expectations.
Image

Lunazon
An extraterrestrial warrior in exile. Is an actual friend of Thunder Woman, not merely an associate like the rest.
Image

Massive
Size-changing heroine from India, actively opposing the policies of the Central Power Agency, India's resident superhuman bureaucracy.

Thunder Woman Solo Allies

Post by bsdigitalq »

Solo Allies
Basically, individual heroes or extraordinaries who are recurring or occasional allies to Thunder Woman. Some really only figure into a particular story arc, others are significantly more important to the greater setting than to Thunder Woman herself.

Adam Asklepiades
An enigmatic, heavily scarred man who shows up in Newport targeting one of Thunder Woman's archenemies, Helregin. Implies he has a past history with the supervillain.
Image

Captain Meteor
One of the most significant figures in the greater setting that Thunder Woman inhabits. One of the first and longest lasting superheroes, and the founder of numerous superteams, including the Allegiance.
Image

Kelkemet
An amorous member of a race of ultrapowerful, nomadic anti-social extraterrestrials. Has the hots for Thunder Woman, but unlike other potential suitors, she has plainly rejected him.
Image

Mazdak
A senior Zoroastrian priest from Iran who uses his powers to protect minority religions from persecution by the state and the machinations of the cult of Ahriman. Pivotal to a particular story arc for Thunder Woman in exonerating her and stopping a gaslighting scheme.
Image

Megaton
A gravity manipulating street level hero and member of superhero team the Peacekeepers. Despite the name he advocates a "tough love" approach to handling would-be young supervillains.
Image

Nerig
Rogue son of major Thunder Woman villain Dominus, who arrives on Earth to assist her in halting his father's invasion of the planet and stopping his intentions for the heroine.
Image

The Night Stalker
The latest in a legacy stretching to the very beginning of the emergence of superheroes. Unlike the others who were wealthy industrialists, this Night Stalker is a former elite special forces soldier working on a shoe-string budget. Has a slightly adversarial relationship with Thunder Woman.
Image

Sandstorm
"Asifa Ramliya" is one of the most well known superheroes from Egypt. Heralded as a beacon of Islamic virtue, while criticized from both conservative Muslims and anti-Islamic groups in the west.
Image

White Wraith
A mysterious lone wolf sniper who Thunder Woman encounters during certain events in Russia. Helps Thunder Woman evade Russian military forces when the heroine is implicated in violating international law regarding superhero intervention in military events.
Image
Image

Zharova
The poster child for the modern, officially sanctioned Russian superhero group the Federal Guard. Channels her power from the mythical Firebird of Russian folklore.
