Yeah, Diana pretty much just serves as comedy relief for the season she's present, and she has some genuinely funny bits that play up her naivete. If using her as an NPC, keep in mind that she is completely unfamiliar with 20th century Earth, and use this as a way of commenting on what your idea of Crystal Tokyo is like.

NARU OSAKA
Dub Name:
Molly Baker
Role: Youma Bait, The Best Friend, Demoted to Extra
Hair Colour: Red
PL 1 (10), PL 3 (10) Defenses
STRENGTH
-1 STAMINA 0 AGILITY 1
FIGHTING 0 DEXTERITY 0
INTELLIGENCE 0 AWARENESS 0 PRESENCE 0

Skills:
Persuasion 4 (+4)

Advantages:
None

Offense:
Unarmed +0 (-1 Damage, DC 14)
Initiative +1

Defenses:
Dodge +2 (DC 12), Parry +2 (DC 12), Toughness +0, Fortitude +1, Will +4

Complications (Early):
Relationship (Nephrite)- Naru falls heavily in love with the handsome, brilliant Masato Sanjouin, and her feelings hold even after he is revealed as an evil member of the Dark Kingdom. Her feelings are so strong that they set off his Dark Crystal, and she risks her live in a failed effort to save his.
Relationship (Melvin/Umino)- After Nephrite's death, Naru's feelings for Umino grow. Not charming or handsome in the slightest, he is nonetheless very devoted to her, and she appreciates him.
Responsibility (Monster Bait)- At least once a season, poor Naru will be trotted out to be attacked by the Monster of the Day.
Relationship (Rui)- Her "older sister".

Total: Abilities: 0 / Skills: 4--2 / Advantages: 0 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 8 (10)

-Molly/Naru took the ever-important role of "The Schoolgirl's Best Friend", a common-ass trope in nearly all of fiction (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, this show, CardCaptors, etc.). You sorta NEED this character as a pillar of normalcy, or else the main character just talks to herself or her mascot all the time. Given a goofy Osaka-ban dialect in the original (common for comedic side-characters), she was modified into a Brooklynite in the Original Dub, which is actually considered a pretty good match of the general "stereotype" that Osakans get in Japan (they're seen as a bit jovial, opinionated and entertaining). Not that some fans didn't find the over-done Brooklyn accent REALLY annoying, but I was fine with it- it makes her distinct. Of course, her MOTHER not having the same accent was a little weird.

-The New Dub makes her normal-voiced, which has the troubling effect of making her sound exactly the same as every other high-pitched female in the show. But it does make her a little less goofy.

-Naru's relationship with Nephrite was pretty well done, considering it should be creepy on absolutely every level (he's a 30-something-odd man who has feelings for a tiny, teenage girl half his size). Just a schoolgirl crush at first (the usual "hearts in the eyes" immature spasms that we see from Usagi nearly every time a handsome man shows up), she pretty quickly develops a huge infatuation. The weirdest part may be the time he, as Masato Sanjoin, blatantly hits on her in public, acting like a complete sleazeball by complimenting her looks and leaning in towards her. SO WEIRD. But you really get the sense that she authentically cares for him, such as the way she nearly sacrifices her life in order to save him from the Tiara attack.

-When he picks up on her feelings, he plans to just "use" her to find Sailor Moon, but he ultimately can't bring himself to hurt her, and grows real affection for the young girl. To the point that when she's kidnapped by Zoisite to put him in an awkward position, he flies into an uncontrollable rage and nearly executes her three subordinates, only stopping because he doesn't want to kill people in front of Naru. There's even that fun bit where he confesses that he's a born liar and will probably continue lying to her, and she innocently reveals that she'll probably be happy to be with him regardless. It's just so INNOCENT, particularly since Nephrite shows no physical affection. After he dies, she goes into a long depression, only taken out of it later. In fact, the show actually shows a pretty strong example of the grief process, as Naru doesn't recover immediately, and actually needs recurring support (and the advice of a helpful Priest... who later turns into a Boxing Angel- "Lovely PUUUUUUUUNNCH!") in order to get better.

-She later grows romantically close to the class dork Umino, tolerating his clumsy displays of affection thanks to his bouts of bravery (his "Tuxedo Umino" outfit makes her roll her eyes, but his authentic attempts to save her life actually impress her), while on her way to becoming a redundant supporting cast member. And redundant she indeed becomes, as by the second season (Sailor Moon R), Usagi now has a full cast of four female supporting characters to support, plus her relationship with Mamoru. So as the plot develops, and Usagi leaves behind normalcy once and for all, Naru becomes less and less important to the overall narrative. By R, she's being assaulted by the villains in so many episodes in a row that even LUNA is breaking the fourth wall to talk about it ("that girl sure does get her energy drained a lot..."), and once the Black Moon Family Arc begins, she's almost completely irrelevant.

-Sadly, however, it's soon time for her role in the show to end. After a few appearances (mostly as a victim) in Sailor Moon R, Naru takes a HUGE nap and drops out of sight until the very end of the story, appearing to Usagi and more or less confessing that "I know you can't really talk about it... but you know what that thing is, don't you?", regarding the huge spaceship in the middle of Tokyo's Juuban District. It's a neat little moment, as the two girls more or less bond over the fact that Usagi IS, in fact, Sailor Moon, but they refuse to verbalize it, making it an unspoken moment between two friends, while Naru quietly moves on and gets out of the way. Naru is of course destined to act as the Victim of the Week in the later Seasons, but she no longer truly matters.

-Not a bad character overall, but she REALLY outlived her usefulness about half-way through Season 2, especially since she never discovered the team's secret IDs in a big way. There was some cute stuff, but after that, she was just there to get attacked by a Youma once a season.

Relationship (Usagi/Serena)- Melvin spends the early part of the series doggedly pursuing the uninterested main character.
Relationship (Naru/Molly)- Umino/Melvin's feelings shift to Naru, and they eventually start dating as high school students do.
Prejudice (Class Dork)- Melvin is one of the least-popular kids in school, and most people actively avoid or disparage him.

Total: Abilities: 2 / Skills: 10--5 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 9 (17)

-Characters like Umino (he'll always be "Melvin" to me) show up a lot in media targeted towards girls. Like Boq in Wicked, he's more or less a creepy, nerdy stalker who drools over the main girl- a contrast to the nerds in male-targeting media, which typically paint them as poor, bullied nice-guys who get the girl in the end. I have a feeling that the "girls' side" often gets it a little more true-to-life. That said... Umino DID get a girl in the end!

-Umino/Melvin was initially just a really dorky kid at school who constantly hung around Usagi & Naru, and got insulted for it. A real Butt-Monkey type, he got attacked by villains almost as much as Naru did, and got a similarly-huge de-push as a character once all the other Senshi got introduced. Heck, once the other Sailors arrive, there's not as much reason for him to be around filling time- that said, he gets some fun moments in the end, when he's decided to go after Naru, and defends her against various Monsters. He even ends up impressing her with his "Tuxedo Umino Mask" disguise ("Tuxedo Melvin" in the Original Dub was much better), as he draws aggro on a monster and takes a horrible beating. Eventually, all of this heroism earns him the lady-prize. They were a pretty cute couple, though. Especially in the Super S episode where he constantly tried to prove his love (in a "Prove Your Love" contest, no less), repeatedly getting the wrong answers, but for the right reasons (remembering Naru had a bandage on her finger that he cared for... six weeks ago).

-Umino is pretty hopeless as a fighter, though is decent enough at getting the bad guys to pay attention to him and draw their aggression.

Sailor Moon S Notes:
-Both characters are notably for only appearing in ONE EPISODE of Sailor Moon S, establishing forever that they're basically not even a consideration any longer. But what a doozy.

Sailor Moon SuperS Notes:
-And finally, years after they were last important, and with so much added to the plot since then, we get our final appearance of both Naru & Umino. Targetted by Tiger's Eye, Naru rebuffs the lothario's advances much to his annoyance, so he makes up some B.S. story about how he's dying soon, and wants to know what love is like before he goes. Hearing of his desire to be her boyfriend until he dies, Naru is like "I don't know..." but UMINO overhears this... and is so moved by his plight that he demands Naru go with him. Tears in eyes and everything- he's a kook. But eventually he just attacks her and she's the Victim of the Week as usual. In the end, this is it- she and Umino don't even get a really good send-off Sailor Moon S naturally had the best version of that), and she disappears. Meanwhile, Motoki's SISTER, Unazuki, gets a bunch of appearances early in the season as the Crown Parlor seems to be an early hang-out, so she gets more appearances than a character with a lot of history (though I guess also a lot of baggage).

-Ultimately, these are two characters whose time passed even in Sailor Moon R- with a cast of a dozen heroes and tons of villains to showcase, and Naru's role being a joke even by then ("This girl sure gets her energy drained a lot..."), there was little reason for the Normal Friends to stick around the cats of crazies. But it's still kind of sad, and I mean... why not give them a moment in the final season? They had a ton of episodes left, and even the Series Finale couldn't at least give them a cameo?

The Amazon Trio

Post by Jabroniville »

THE AMAZON TRIO:
-The Amazon Trio were three lazy would-be lotharios who pretty much just picked targets they wanted to seduce. Shown as being selfish, clueless and rather shallow (they ONLY hunted pretty people, and were often flabbergasted at being shot down), they would pick out a target, hit on them (clumsily, in the case of Tiger's Eye and Hawk's Eye), and ultimately fail to seduce them... then they'd reveal themselves behind a magical cloak, startle their targets, and trap them against a board, revealing their Dream Mirror. The gang would bail as soon as the Sailors arrived, though Tiger's Eye could fight Tuxedo Mask, and Hawk's Eye deflected Sailor Moon's Sailor Moon S attack. They were mostly used for laughs, and almost never taken seriously- Zirconia frequently scolded their incompetence. However, they were given a bit of character as time went on- they grew concerned over their own lacks of dreams- Fish's Eye in particular was obsessed with the idea. And it turned out that all three were actually animals given human-esque form, and that they were doomed to transform back unless they succeeded in their mission! It was... something, but a bit weak compared to the show's other villains.

-In the end, however, they are hunted down and attacked by a powerful Lemures summoned by their replacements, the Amazoness Quartet. Horrified at his power, the Trio watch him deflect their best attacks, and throw out lethal damage of his own- Hawk's Eye sacrifices his life to save Fish's Eye, and says he wants them to be seen as something other than "a big joke". Tiger's Eye & Fish's Eye are mortified, but find themselves too weak. With Sailor Moon lying their, dying because her Dream Mirror was shattered by that same Lemures, they make a sacrifice of their own. They have a "wish-granting orb" that can make them fully human, which was their desire... but they figure they'll be killed by the Lemures regardless. So they use the orb to regrow Sailor Moon's Dream Mirror, bringing her back from the brink, and allowing her to kill the Lemures.

-With Hawk's Eye dead and the other two transforming, the Trio are done... but a grateful Pegasus uses his Golden Horn to grant them their final wish- they are to be resurrected as humans, with dreams of their own. Their spirits are transported to his Magical Forest Realm for this purpose, and the Trio are never seen again.

-In terms of power, the Trio were rarely that dangerous- Fish's Eye was in fact called out as being a weak fighter, though Hawk's Eye managed some good feats. Overall, these guys NEVER fought their opponents on an even keel, and tended to just flee as soon as the heroes arrived. This leaves them far weaker than the Witches 5 or Kaolinite from Sailor Moon S, who could often take on several Sailors at once. Also, unlike the Witches, Spectre Sisters, or Dark Kingdom Generals, they are rather weak socially, unintelligent, and lazy. This renders them far less effective overall as villains, though made for some good laughs.

-Since all the Amazon Trio have targets of particular focus, and Tiger's Eye has the most generic ("pretty girls"), he's the one who ends up getting by far the most use out of his crew. In fact, a good 80% of the first have of Sailor Moon SuperS features T.E. picking a cute girl, attempting to "Meet Cute" or hit on her in public, utterly getting shot down by embarassed girls (often because they were seeing someone, weren't interested in dating at the moment, or just found his social cluelessness odd), and then just attacking them to look into their dreams. EVERY TIME. It's a bit funny, because many of the male Sailor Moon villains were expert seducers, who were very good at making women do what they wanted (Nephrite, Rubeus)... while the guy whose ENTIRE CONCEPT revolved around seducing women was actually quite bad at it. In fact, his only real shot was in the episode where he targetted Sailor Jupiter and a whole roomful of girls at a college dance- here, he acted smooth, reserved, and was able to impress everyone by dancing with her expertly. So basically he was good with women if he shut up and danced, and that's it.

-In the manga, Tiger's Eye is a one-off sent by the Amazoness Quartet to hunt down Rei Hino, but she sees through his funhouse mirror deceptions and banishes him with her Magic Paper stuff. Sent back, he tries to kill her, but is opposed by Phobos and Deimos, her loyal crow allies. Distracted, he is immolated by her new attack, Mars Flame Sniper. The anime character is thus a completely new creation (the manga version is even a normal tiger, for the most part).

-Tiger's Eye was good enough at fighting to draw even with Tuxedo Mask for a bit, but overall lacked the menace of the Witches 5 or Kaolinite, who could defeat the Sailors in an open struggle. Though he's not overly great and has limited Mental Stats, he has numerous powers (a Whip, the Dream Mirror thing, and the Morph) that he still ends up rather expensive.

Yup. Though a lot of the old dubs changed Fish Eye (the blue one) into a girl..for much the same reasons Zoisite was in the original dub.

-Hawk's Eye is the silliest-looking of the Amazon Trio, and has the most unique approach- he's into women like Tiger's Eye is, but he has a preference for MILFS!! And before you go "Attaboy!" at him, his theory is rather gross, finding "the fruit is freshest right before it ROTS!", which is... weird. Like, he finds older women attractive because they're more desperate for attention and affection. He had the fewest opportunities to be "Key Villain" in the show, as your typical victim was gonna be a Sailor or one of their close friends of the day- typically people around their own age. So his most famous victim was Usagi's MOM, attempting to gain her affection by pretending to have lost his own mother years before, and wanting her to say "mom stuff" to him (way to take lusting after 40-something women into a WEIRD DIRECTION, you putz). Though once he and Tiger's Eye were sent after the same girl- Sailor Venus.

-It can't really be emphasized enough how odd Hawk's Eye looks, though- he's wearing leggings, a SKIRT, and even a one-strap bikini top. It's just... insanely bizarre. In the show, he was typically the Deadpan Snarker of the group, and in the Viz dub is given by far the most "gay" voice, which is in stark contrast to his womanizing behavior- that and his appearance is a big mind-screw. In the end, he proved to be the BRAVEST of the Trio, though- when the Amazoness Quartet decided to murder their predecessors, a powerful Lemures attacks the group, easily proving able to deflect their attacks. And his lethal blasts end up targeting the gang... and Hawk's Eye literally jumps in front of his teammates, taking a fatal wound for Fish's Eye! The shocked other guys ask why he'd do such a thing, and Hawk's Eye can only reply that he wanted the team to be known for more than being "a big joke". Besides, he says, "it's like Zirconia said- we're expendable". He dies, and his teammates are left with the decision to sacrifice their chance for humanity to allow Sailor Moon to defeat their foe.

-In the manga, Hawk's Eye was another one-off- he was sent to target Makoto Kino. He lured her into a shop by talking about his dreams of "owning many more shops", but she debuted her "Jupiter Oak Evolution" attack and killed him- his two accomplices, members of the Amazoness Quartet- escaped.

-Hawk's Eye does the most esoteric magic of the Amazon Trio- he creates a tear in a bag from far away, and creates a locket from nothing- Magic-related things that his allies don't use. He also comes off as the best fighter, using a fire breath attack, and at one point BLOCKING MOON GORGEOUS MEDITATION WITH HIS HAND, something never before accomplished by a bad guy. He also creates a massive cage for Pegasus- a "Subspace Dimensional Trap" that damn near works, meaning he's the most versatile of the Trio as well!

-Fish's Eye (called Fish Eye or Fisheye alternatively; the new dub uses "Fish's Eye") is probably the funniest and strangest of the Amazon Trio- dressed very femininely, but in a costume reminiscent of Bib the Michelin Man, Fish's Eye is quickly revealed to be gay, with his partners kind of just going "I always had my suspicions" and "this confirms it". Constantly chasing after cute boys, Fish's Eye is actually the BEST of the group and seducing potential targets... largely because he can easily morph into a VERY beautiful woman, and men are a hell of a lot more easily-seduced than women. One man, a sensitive artist obsessed with fairies (HOW WEIRD TO BE MALE AND OBSESSED WITH FAIRIES, AM I RIGHT?), is completely entranced by her fey-like, ethereal, inhuman nature, and only rejects "her" when he realizes that she was completely ignorant to the beauty of nature (instead being annoyed that some crushed flowers stained her dress).

Image

Also, one time Fish Eye got a crush on THIS YOUNG BOY AGH.

-Another time, Fish's Eye went in as a male, easily seducing a tortured fashion designer (who's male partner clearly loved him, too) using his slender, shirtless body as a "muse" for his newest line- this time, only the cheery, tactless Usagi (she kept asking him jokingly-but-not-really to give her free dresses, making him laugh for the first time in ages) convinced him to dump his muse and win back his old team, who'd mostly quit. This and other situations made Fish's Eye episodes quite amusing. As you might imagine, it also makes him a giant nightmare for the censors, who either have to deal with a gay man trying to seduce men via crossdressing, or a gay VILLAIN in general, and so many dubs alter the character into a female- easy enough given how feminine his baseline form is (it's even easier than the infamous Zoisite).

-It is through Fish's Eye that we learn that the Amazon Trio cannot dream, and he becomes bereft at this fact (Mamoru, with whom he'd naturally become infatuated, rejected "her" advances and said he preferred the plainer Usagi "because she has beautiful dreams"). He begs Zirconia to allow them to have dreams of their own, and turns on the others when it becomes clear they're mere pawns. Ultimately, he and Tiger's Eye choose to give up the chance to become human to allow Sailor Moon to live- the Amazon Trio are thus promised human forms.

-In the manga, Fish Eye is a one-off who is sent after Sailor Mercury, who buys a "fish" that reminds her of a postcard sent by her father (jeez, is THIS where we finally learn why her dad isn't around? That's pretty late in the show's run)- he is ultimately killed by Sailor Moon, Chibi-Moon & Mercury.

-Fish's Eye is clearly the worst fighter of the Amazon Trio, with a joke being that he's unable to even hit that well with his throwing knives. He still has a rapier, and the only one with an innate Blast, though. He's the ony one who earns Attractive, though, easily entrancing lonely, tortured artists.

Fish's Eye
Name Translation: Fisheye (oddly shaped rock)
Role: Man Chaser, Effeminate Male, Camp Gay, Crossdresser

Oh Japan, why do you feel the need to constantly cause everyone to question their presences? First it was Disney trying to turn everyone into a furry, now it's Japan trying to use very convincing cross-dressers to resurrect the Why Boner. With a vengeance.

Responsibility (The Dead Moon Circus)
Disabled (Mute)- A Lemures can sometimes only shout out its own name. Others are quite chatty.
Vulnerable (Distractions)- A Lemures pretty much ONLY looks at the last immediate thing to draw their attention. This makes them easily distracted, to the point of getting negatives to resist having their attention drawn.

Total: Abilities: 50 / Skills: 24--12 / Advantages: 5 / Powers: 1 / Defenses: 14 (82)

-The Villains Of The Week for Sailor Moon SuperS are pretty much the usual, ever since Sailor Moon S turned them into a bunch of goofy weirdos. Here, we see them as mostly circus-themed creatures, producing a LOT of Evil Clowns. Oddities abound, such as the one with inflated breasts that she constantly pats to build up an energy blast ("Pon pon! Pon pon pon!"), or one that claims to be the sister of a previous Lemures the Sailors killed (the only time familial relations have been mentioned). The Dead Moon Circus itself had a large bunch of backgrounders seen in the episodes debuting the Amazon Trio & Amazoness Quartet, as well as the time the heroes actually WENT to the circus- they're one-off circus freaks, two-headed types, fire-breathers, etc. Their designs were pretty cool for a one-off, though- you can tell the animators wanted to actually make them memorable.

-A "Lemures" is part of Roman mythology- they are the spirits of the restless or malignant dead. In the anime, it's pronounced "LEM-er-ess", and their mission under the Trio is to kill the person with the Dream Mirror, thus preventing them from being host to Pegasus in the future. Under the Quartet, they swallow up the Dream Mirror like a cormorant, meaning to run off with it. In every case, the Lemures is killed by Sailor Moon's "Moon Gorgeous Meditation" blast, splitting in half and crying "Stage Out!". It's later revealed that the Lemureses are those members of the Dead Moon who had their Dream Mirrors absorbed by Queen Nehalennia, in her quest to remain eternally young.

-Tiger's Eye and Hawk's Eye had Lemureses with female names, while Fish Eye had ones with male names. VesVes's were based off of animals, and CereCere's off of flowers- the others were a bit themeless. In terms of Power Level, they're pretty similar to the creatures of past seasons, in that sometimes they're just easily-killed goofs. However, a couple are truly devastating (one wrecks the Amazon Trio effortlessly and nearly kills Sailor Moon).

-In the manga, the Lemureses were dark, formless creatures.

Various Lemureses:
EPISODE 128- PL 10 (110): "Separates Limbs" Ranged Strength 4 (Multiattack, Indirect 4), Flight 5, "Sword From Mouth" Damage +4- Reach 2 [28]
-The first episode of SuperS oddly introduces a monster as well as all the other stuff going on. This one's a creepy puppet whose arms come off. Tuxedo Mask distracts it and it's dead.

EPISODE 129- PL 10 (97): Whip (Deflect 12- Reflect, Damage +2) [15]
-This guy isn't around long- he makes the cast dance around with his whip, but Pegasus soon arrives and gives us our second "Moon Gorgeous Meditation"- it's more or less there to set the template for later episodes.

EPISODE 130- PL 10 (92): "Fired Out of Cannon" Burst Damage 8 (Source- Cannon), Immunity to Slam Damage [10]
-This enemy gets shot out of a cannon repeatedly- it's a five-second charge and easy to dodge, but does Burst Area Damage. It goes right through "Sparkling Wide Pressure", too.

EPISODE 131- PL 10 (108): "Exploding Balls" Blast 8 (Burst Area), "Flaming Pins" Blast 6 (Multiattack, Accurate 5), "Throwing Knives" Blast 4 (Multiattack, Accurate 5) [26]
-The pervy animators go all-out with the Lemures, a juggler with spikes on her breasts that she "squishes" inwards with each toss of the juggling balls. On a repeating loop, no less.

SUPER SPECIAL- FIRST VILLAIN- PL 10 (129): No STA Score, Immunity (Fortitude Effects), Protection 6, Mind Control 8, "Drain Groups" Weaken Strength 8 (Burst Area) [47]
-This monster is a ventriloquist's dummy who appears outside of the main threat- he's destroyed by Sailor Uranus, an act which frees the ventriloquist from his control.

SUPER SPECIAL- SECOND VILLAIN- PL 10 (95): Morph (Other Form), "Blood Drain" Weaken Strength 8 [13]
-This one is a freaking VAMPIRE, one who has been causing Chibi-Usa's friends to slowly disappear from school. The fact that the Sailors ate garlic the day before results in a "Super Sailor Garlic Attack" that stuns the monster- it disintegrates, revealing the true person it's been possessing.

EPISODE 132- PL 10 (109): Flight 4, "Slam Attack" Damage +3, "Asphyxiation" Suffocate 8 [27]
-This balloon-shaped Lemures manages to actually SMOTHER Sailor Moon, who leaps in the way to save a beaten Tuxedo Mask. This gives us a horrifying close-up of the hero's face as her lights start to go out- sure to terrify anyone who considers this a deadly fear. She weeps at how romantic it is that Sailor Moon would sacrifice her life this way, but adds "Don't worry- once I kill her, I'll kill you too". But Tuxedo Mask goes NUTS, literally tearing himself free of being pinned to the ground with knives, then STABS HER with one, popping the balloon. When she tries to pump herself back up, Sailor Moon kills her.

EPISODE 133- PL 10 (103): Power Punch +2, Multiattack Kicks 6, Affliction 6 (Will; Hindered & Vulnerable/Immobile & Compelled/Transformed to Part of Lemures & Controlled; Extra Condition) [21]
-This Lemures has the bizarre application of turning into a kangaroo-themed thing, then "absorbing" Artemis so that he's a part of her own body, and attacks directed at her will harm him, too. Only seeing Luna in danger gives Artemis the willpower to fight back and escape her control. The Lemures is easily destroyed once Artemis is free; it's vastly outnumbered.

EPISODE 134- PL 10 (114): Flight 4, Chain Hair Snare 6 (Accurate 5), Timb Bomb (Burst Damage 8) [32]
-This Lemures ensnares the Sailors, then throws a time bomb to finish them off- Tuxedo Mask saves them and Jupiter throws the time bomb at it, causing a "Looney Tunes"-style hole to form in the wall.

EPISODE 135- PL 10 (108): Flight 4, Persuasion +8, "Shadow Posession/Paralysis" Affliction 14 (Will; Dazed & Entranced/Compelled & Stunned/Controlled & Paralyzed; Extra Condition, Ranged, Limited To One Target -2) [26]
-This Lemures is able to possess people via their shadows, controlling them. This one is a trap by Tiger's Eye to capture Pegasus... and he DOES! When Chibi-Usa enters her own Dream Mirror's world to help him, the Lemures attempts to manipulate her into using Pegasus for ultimate power, but she refuses ("I don't want to own Pegasus or CONTROL him- I want to be his friend!"). When she rejects it, it's blasted out of the Dream World (which naturally turns pink) and is easily killed.

EPISODE 136- PL 10 (116): Flight 4 (Using Umbrella), Water Spray (Blast 6, Accurate 5), Annoying Napkins (Multiattack Ranged Affliction 6, Accurate 5) [34]
-This Kabuki-themed Lemures ends up in a rather "busy" episode, so it doesn't last long- she throws water and napkins (probably some Kabuki thing) about, but she's divebombed by a full assortment of Sailors, which few monsters can ever surpass.

EPISODE 137- PL 10 (96): Create High Wire 2 (Innate, Indirect- From Below) & Move Object 2 (Indirect), Athletics +6 [14]
-This Lemures creates a high-wire and forces Sailor Moon to join him on it by making it pop up underneath her, but Tuxedo Mask hilariously RIFLES a rose into the back of his head, knocking him off.

EPISODE 138- PL 10 (94): Create Trapeze 2 (Innate, Indirect- From Below) & Move Object 2 (Indirect), Summoned Scissors +2 [12]
-This high-wire Lemures kind of copies the act of the last one, but using a trapeze that Sailors Moon, Chibi-Moon & Mercury are forced onto. Naturally, Tuxedo Mask arrives ON A TRAPEZE OF HIS OWN to save the day, and the monster's easily beaten.

EPISODE 139- PL 10 (143): "Cat's Cradle Powers" Deflect 10 (Indirect), Yarn Blast 6 (Accurate 5), Lasso (Area Snare 6, Accurate 5) [41]
-This Lemures creates various things from "Ayatori" strings (almost exactly like Cat's Cradle over here), but is stunned when Sailor Mars, unimpressed with her five-step ladder, asks "But can you make a SIX-step ladder?!". However, she ensnares the girls anyhow, but Sailor Moon convinces the victim of the week to drop her sword, which hits the Lemures on the head, stunning it for the finish.

EPISODE 140- PL 10 (92): Leaping 4, Burst Area Damage 6 [10]
-This bouncing-ball Lemures (a lotta those this season, by the way...) doesn't last long- it's handily defeated by Sailor Moon, Chibi-Moon & Tuxedo Mask, thanks to the episode's main plot running long.

EPISODE 141- PL 10 (94): Create See-Saw 3 (Innate), Athletics +4, Leaping 2, Slam Attack +2 [12]
-This is a pair of monsters, each working for either Tiger's Eye or Hawk's Eye. Both have the same abilities, however.

EPISODE 142- PL 10 (83): Equipment (Large Bike Tire to move around quickly) [1]
-This Lemures is a total jobber- the very busy episode (featuring a shrewish old woman who lost her old love, leaving her bitter) being too full to give a real fight scene. Tuxedo Mask distracts her and she's dead.

EPISODE 143- PL 10 (138): "Energy Dome" Create 14 (Impervious, Continuous) [56]
-This Lemures is a real goof- a muscular man wearing a silly Pegasus costume- it creates a massive barrier that nobody can break through, Pegasus injuring himself trying to escape. Sailor Moon is powerless without him to give her "Moon Gorgeous Meditation", so he offers to power up the other Sailors. Now, as "Super Sailor Guardians", they shatter the dome. The Lemures is immediately beaten by Sailor Moon (yes, the Super Sailor Guardians still don't finish it off).

EPISODE 144- PL 10 (106): "Exploding Balls" Blast 8 (Burst Area) [24]
-This Lemures spouts "Pon pon! Pon pon pon!" and repeatedly bats at her flat breasts to inflate them after swallowing balls. Well there's no reading into THAT, no sir. She spits out the balls, which then explode- Sailor Mercury tells Tuxedo Mask to plug her mouth, and he does- she's easily beaten afterwards.

EPISODE 145- PL 10 (108): "Walnuts" Blast 8 (Accurate 5), Multiattack Blast 6 (Accurate 5), "Spinning Tutu" Visual Area Cumulative Affliction 8 (Dazed/Stunned/Incapacitated) [26]
-A Nutcracker doll, fitting the episode's ballet theme (the Victim of the Week wishes to become the star in the play, but Fish Eye wants the same job). It's distracted by Tuxedo Mask, and is done.

Image

EPISODE 146- PL 10 (88): "Living Ball" Slithering, Striking Damage +2, Immunity to Slam Damage [6]
-Now HERE's a kooky Lemures- a ball with a face on it... that's riding an Elephant. She elaborates that her brother was one of those Lemureses killed in the past, so she "owes them", even though they "never quite got along". Hawk's Eye has to shout at her to get her head in the game, and she's off to the races... hilariously ignoring Tuxedo Mask, who is doing his big speech and she just rolls on by. He gets legitimately PO'd, and bats her around using his staff as a pool cue.

EPISODE 147- PL 10 (105): Multiattack Card Blast 6 (Accurate 5) [23]
-This Lemures is in a very "busy" episode, and scarcely did anything.

EPISODE 148- PL 10 (87): Create Trampoline 2 (Innate) [5]
-Another throwaway Lemures in a full episode (the one where Fish Eye tries to seduce Mamoru and fails)- the girls were so annoyed at Mamoru being hurt by Fish Eye that they simply ignore bouncing on the trampoline the Lemures creates and kill him.

EPISODE 149- PL 11 (130): Spade Blast 10 (Accurate 6), Deflect 14, Defenses +4 [48]
-One of the most powerful monsters of the week yet seen, this one is summoned by the Amazoness Quartet to kill the Amazon Trio, and actually DOES SO! His attacks even destroy Usagi's Dream Mirror, dooming her to an early death! Hawk's Eye is fatally injured protecting Fish Eye, not wanting the Trio to be seen as just a joke, and so F.E. sacrifices the orb that gives them human forms to save Sailor Moon. The Sailors immediately nuke the Lemures, despite the trouble he was giving the Trio.

EPISODE 150- PL 10 (84): Is a Snake (Slithering & stuff, I guess) [2]
-This Lemures is in the episode that debuts the Quartet properly, so as you might imagine, it doesn't get much focus. It's a snake monster with a head sticking out of a woman's body, and goes down to a single hit- Mars shoots Fire Soul and Sailor Moon uses her move.

EPISODE 151- PL 10 (82): N/A [0]
-This monster showed up in another "busy" episode, so it doesn't do anything. It turns from a tadpole into a frog, and then dies. That's it.

Image

EPISODE 152- PL 10 (147): Mimic 8, Deflect 10 (Reflection), Features: Mimics Faces [65]
-This Lemures is a red monkey girl with HUGE breasts and eyeball-nipples printed on her green shirt. I mean, these are OUT THERE designs. She's a mimic who throws attacks back, and appears unstoppable, until an enraged Sailor Mars debuts "Mars Flame Sniper", which mysteriously just happens to work, and the monster is then killed.

EPISODE 153- PL 10 (107): Multiattack Drill Blast 6 (Accurate 5), Drill Tail +2 [25]
-The fear over this dentist-themed Lemures frightened Sailor Moon & Chibi-Moon so much, they brought back the "Sonic Cry Attack", shaking the building down and stunning the Lemures enough to be easily killed.

EPISODE 154- PL 10 (90): Tripping Balls... I mean, actual balls use for tripping (Affliction 8- Dazed & Hindered/Prone & Stunned, Burst Area, Extra Condition, Limited Degree, Limited to Grounded) [8]
-A... slot-machine tulip monster. She throws the Sailors into a Venus Fly Trap, but Sailors Jupiter & Venus gain their new powers, burning the flower down and she's beaten.

EPISODE 155- PL 10 (104): Tail-Based Flight (Flight 7), FIGHTING +2, Defenses +4 [22]
-This Lemures is so fast that it flies by all the Sailors, and the "Flame Sniper" attack gets blown right back into Sailor Mars! But Sailor Chibi-Moon just vaults over it and that lets Sailor Moon finish him off while he's kncoked down.

EPISODE 156- PL 10 (82): None! [0]
-Another one that doesn't do anything- this one does SO LITTLE that it's entire appearance consists of it arguing with CereCere over not eating the Dream Mirror of an artist whose given up on his dreams! It refuses the faded mirror and is immediately killed when Chibi-Moon summons Pegasus!

EPISODE 157- PL 10 (89): Flight 5 (Winged), Tusks +2 [7]
-This Lemures has an elephant for a chest, but is nearly killed when Sailors Mars & Mercury combine their new attacks into an arrow swirling with blue energy... but Chibi-Moon feels unworthy of summoning Pegasus over a blow-up with him, and so she fights on. Sailor Moon gives her a pep-talk and the monster dies.

EPISODE 158- PL 10 (105): Multiattack Candy Blast 6 (Accurate 5) [23]
-Multiattacked candy pellets endanger the Sailors this time around, as it counters EVERYTHING by sending blasts out, but finally "Mercury Aqua Rhapsody" freezes them and it's dead- all six Sailors combined is just way too much for one monster at this point.

EPISODE 159- PL 10 (93): Swimming 5, STRENGTH +3 [11]
-A ridiculous carp costume marks this Lemures as a jobber- it smashes up a pier in an attempt at attacking some guy, but Tuxedo Mask distracts him easily and he's wrecked.

EPISODE 160- PL 10 (82): None! [0]
-This Lemures over-eats Dream Mirrors in an auditorium full of victims while the Amazoness Quartet fights the Sailors- it literally wakes up just in time to be killed.

BONNUN (Sailor Moon SuperS- Ami's First Love)- PL 10 (95): Concealment (Vision) 2, Weaken Strength 10 (Limited to Obsessively Lascivious Victims), Flight 2 [13]
-Bonnun is the wild, goofy villain in the Ami's First Love short, having awaited in an old school for years, looking to absorb the energy of one student's "lascivious desire" for another. Taking Ami's obsession with this mysterious "Mercurius" (who was matching her test scores) for lust, she latches onto Ami and absorbs much of her strength, taunting her with love letters and such... but Ami mistakes Bonnun FOR Mercurius, and assumes that this scholastic rival must just be seeking her death! So Ami just transforms and unleashes a new attack, killing Bonnun, who is mostly annoyed with being so misunderstood.

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Sailor Jupiter! Sailor Venus! The Amazon Trio!)

Post by Gamebook »

I never knew Sailor Moon was this incredibly weird, it's a garish cavalcade of madness. Also it seems rather stripperific and risque for something ostensibly aimed at little girls. I'm not a great consumer of anime and manga, I only go through the occasional title or show, this sort of stuff just isn't much to my taste.

The Amazoness Quartet

THE AMAZONESS QUARTET:
-With the Amazon Trio dealth with, we are introduced to their replacements, the Amazoness Quartet! Who are... pretty interchangeable except for one character, and all have the same kind of design concept aside from color, meaning that even me, the biggest Sailor Moon-loving dork around, has to constantly check notes to remember which one was which. And they're disconcertingly scantily-clad, seeing as how they're clearly meant to be younger than fifteen, yet they're wearing bikini tops, panties, and cleavage-baring gear. This is a HUGE turn-off (I mean, hopefully) to much of the adult fanbase. That the characters aren't so much evil as they are selfish, lazy, and snarky doesn't help.

-In any case, the Quartet are four smug, snarky, lazy young girls who are working for Zirconia in their quest for the Dream Mirror which holds Pegasus. They are named for moons themselves, but with their names doubled- CereCere (Ceres), PallaPalla (Pallas), VesVes (Vesta), and JunJun (Juno). One will usually take on the day's mission, follow the target around, maybe question the nature of humanity or something, and then attack with an "Orb Shot" that will knock out their Dream Mirror- a pool-cue-assisted shot to their "Amazon Stone", which bounces off various surfaces and unlocks the Mirror.

-The Quartet don't get a lot of individual focus in the anime at all- three of the four have the same personality (PallaPalla is the stand-out- she's a loon who is possibly the most murderous), and they don't have long, introspective moments the way the Amazon Trio or most of the previous "Generals" did. They are openly disrespectful to Zirconia, insulting the old witch to her face, and in their debut, directly THREATEN HER and have to be beaten into submission. The snark continues, as Queen Nehalennia seems to admire them. Finally, they get a tiny bit of character when they help out the Sailor girls in their attempts to put on a talent show- they kind of learn to admire the Sailors' ingenuity, hard work and hard-won skills, while the Sailors compliment the Quartet's athleticism and other abilities. This leads the Sailors to disappointment when the Quartet reveals their evil nature, but it gives the hints of things to come:

-It turns out that the Quartet were innocent magical girls who were twisted by Nehalennia into their current form- their happy dreams were what fueled her Dead Moon! She callously has the girls' energy drained to empower Zirconia, which causes the Quartet to turn on her- they steal the Golden Crystal from the Queen and give it to Sailor Moon, helping save the day in the final battle.

-In the manga, the girls have a surprisingly bigger role, given how most other Generals were themselves one-off Mooks in the books. When they were defeated, they reverted to their Amazon Stones- Sailor Saturn brought them to Neo-Queen Serenity, who revealed that they were actually the brainwashed guardians of Sailor Chibi-Moon herself! They're actual Sailor Senshi! This adds to something that Naoko Takeuchi was doing a LOT of in the final years of the manga- blasting out Sailor after Sailor, because she was running out of shit and kids were liking seeing all the new characters. So the real versions of these characters were eventually unleashed, though they were rarely given much characterization (since they typically live in the 30th Century)- they were Sailor Ceres, Sailor Pallas, Sailor Vesta & Sailor Juno.

-In the manga, the Sailor Quartet (given the "fanon" name "Asteroid Senshi") have two group attacks with Sailor Chibi-Moon. The "Pink Lady's Freezing Kiss" was only seen once, and was used to destroy the vines trapping Eternal Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon & Princess Kakyuu, in the "Sailor Stars" Arc. The other attack was the "Amazoness Jungle Arrow", which in the manga was the attack that killed Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon immediately after the aforementioned attack. Both attacks are just Group Blasts, and there's no real indication how powerful they are.

Responsibility (Controlled)- The Amazoness Quartet are the brainwashed minions of Queen Nehalennia- eternally youthful. Shattering their Amazon Stones will cause them to begin aging normally.

Total: Abilities: 66 / Skills: 48--24 / Advantages: 20 / Powers: 31 / Defenses: 21 (162)

-VesVes, wearing red, was typically seen as the "central" Amazoness Quartet member, often speaking for the group- she's the one that challenges Zirconia to a fight in the Quartet's debut, and gets beaten back with an energy blast (Zirconia confesses to herself that all together, the girls could probably overwhelm her). The "Beast Tamer", she is never seen taming beasts, but has knives and a whip. With the most Fanservicey outfit, consisting of two cups over her large breasts, she is probably the most irksome of the group when you see them next to adults and realize how young they probably are. Her distinctive long hair-thing is the most recognizable trait, however.

-In the manga, VesVes is also Sailor Vesta, a guardian of Sailor Chibi-Moon. She uses an attack called "Tama Hagane" (named for the steel used in samurai swords, often translated as "Steel Ball" or "Gem Steel"), which summons a bunch of knives that blast away at range.

-VesVes is an expert knife-tosser (once pinning someone to the wall with them) and uses a whip, but her specialty is attacking with Ricoceting orbs, which sound and move like pool balls. Her "Sealing Orb" effortlessly absorbed the power of both "Venus Love & Beauty Shock" and "Jupiter Oak Evolution", she once trapped everyone in a computer (a ridiculous Dimensional Travel Area Attack), and she can see things from afar.
