-The Warrior as a Gold-level "Jungle" Hero is one of the few characters to throw out a BLAST of all things (there's surprisingly-few considering some guys have summonable Semi-Trucks and can drive people into the magma beneath the Earth), and has a Burst Affliction that de-powers guys' "Passives" (ie. their non-Special Move bonuses that increase their stats in certain situations. Warrior himself would remove another Warrior's Passive Passive-Stopper). The Silver version is much cheaper, but gains a nifty bonus to either Adrenaline or Regeneration if he's below 40% Health.

-Trish Stratus' improvement came as a bit of a surprise. I'd actually heard of her years before her wrestling debut, as she was a recurring Fitness Model in MuscleMag (she did a lot of photoshoots with the near-identical Stacey Lynn). When she debuted in the WWF, she was the manage of Test & Albert, known as T&A (ho ho), lacked any sort of charisma, and pretty much just walked around and smirked alot. But then, some strange things started happening. She gained experience on the mic and became an in-ring performer. And then she got REALLY REALLY GOOD at it. I mean, she went from a non-wrestler to one of the best women's wrestlers in U.S. history! She actually became one of the most-interesting wrestlers to watch on RAW, because she would ADD new moves to her offense with each passing month! She'd go from the Slingshot Bulldog to the "Matrix Move" (a back-arching dodge followed by a handstand/headscissors takedown) to the "Chick Kick" (basically a kick to the head). As this was the time period when a bloated, lazy Triple-H was ruling RAW with an iron fist, it made her REALLY stand out.

-The fact that she was arguably the most "Stereotypically Hot" Diva on the roster helped her career, too. Ripped like a fitness model should be, she had big breast implants, used the "Pamela Anderson" school of makeup (heavy eyeshadow and lip liner), and bleached her dark Greek roots blonde. This made her Vince McMahon's wet dream, and they got a LOT of use out of her as a sexpot (though this lessened a bit as she got better in the ring- Trish herself said she was uncomfortable with the idea of stripping nude for Playboy as so many others had done). Honestly, while she was obviously hot (like, SUPER hot), the whole look she had wasn't really my ideal- I prefered quite a few other women (the amazonian psycho lesbian Victoria, the curvy Good Girl Molly Holly, the cougarish fitness-y Ivory). All in all, though, she's pretty much the greatest WWE Diva of all time- nobody else mixed in-ring skills and looks with promos and charisma like she did.

-Trish retired in her mid-30s as the top Diva ever, and has gone on to have a successful Yoga-based business and more- she actually looks hotter in modern pictorials than she did in her youth, thanks to a more toned yoga-body and her natural, darker hair.

-White Witch Trish Stratus (a Bronze-level character with a really good superhero-ish design) has the odd ability to enhance her male teammates' attributes. Angelic Knight (looking like some combination of Thor & a Greek Goddess mixed with Power Girl's Boob Window) has the weirder ability to enhance her team's Adrenaline regeneration for a short period of time. Nothing really in the game for that aside from a Feature, I think.

-Brock Lesnar is of course famous for being both a pro wrestler, AND the UFC World Heavyweight Champion- a freak athlete with borderline superhuman strength, young Brock became an NCAA champion amateur wrestler. This gave him the fast track to WWE success, especially since owner Vince McMahon has a deep-seated love of muscular male physiques (Brock is so big and tough-looking that he was the basis for The Armored Titan in Attack on Titan). As a result, Brock was given the proverbial "Rocket Push" straight away, getting put over popular acts like the Hardy Boyz, and even destroying HULK HOGAN in one of the most one-sided contests in years. He became the youngest World Champion ever by eating The Rock at SummerSlam, and pummelled guys up and down the card, both as a hated Monster Heel (with the slimy piece of crap Paul Heyman as his manager), and as a Babyface (though in this form, he suffered from Vince's classic "the hero must always be a smiling, happy guy" syndrome, making him look like a giant dingus).

-Unfortunately... Brock didn't care for pro wrestling at all. A natural athlete, he nonetheless hated the constant travel and the fame that was associated with his role. At the peak of his fame, he basically announced he was quitting the business for good, and put on an infamously half-assed performance at WrestleMania against Bill Goldberg (who was also quitting that night) while the fans tore the match apart. He attempted to walk onto an NFL team, and damn near did it (an astonishing feat given that he was in his mid-20s and never played college ball), missing out at the very end (it's just too hard to learn the game after a point). After that, it was the UFC, where he became the biggest star in their history.

-Brock in the UFC was a hilarious thing- the UFC faithful (d-bags in TAPOUT t-shirts) DESPISED him for being a pro wreslter who just came into their yard and became dominant. They BEGGED for him to finally lose, as he smashed several challengers (after his debut loss against Frank Mir, he came roaring back and basically murdered the guy in a rematch), beat beloved World Champion Randy Couture, and more. His natural persona, that of an arrogant, unfriendly, ungracious ass, made for GREAT T.V., and made him a real-life Monster Heel (as he openly bragged about beating Mir, ripped on UFC's sponsors for not paying him, and basically drew attention to himself). Unfortunately, a bad bout of sickness (diverticulitis) nearly killed him, and he returned to basically get beaten badly by Cain Velasquez (Brock, like many strong fighters, had a mental issue with getting punched in the face, and kind of "turtled", getting pummelled), and he retired almost immediately.

-From there, Brock returned to wrestling- albeit with limited dates. In a foolish move, the company had him job to John Cena in his first match back, and spent the next couple years rebuilding him, until he did the impossible and CONQUERED THE UNDERTAKER'S UNDEFEATED STREAK at WrestleMania. This led to him demolishing Cena and becoming World Champion, despite only wrestling every couple months- a controversial plan that left the company without its true "headliner" for a long time. Brock is still currently a top star, but again only shows up rarely. One a recent show, he drew a HUGE reaction by throwing a massive shit-fit after losing the World Title to a conniving Seth Rollins and being robbed of a rematch, and ripped the entire ring area to pieces, badly-injuring the announce team, giving Michael Cole, a referee, and a CAMERAMAN his finisher, and left the arena to a chorus of mad cheers. Because despite being a Monster Heel, Brock is DOMINANT and TOUGH, and thus draws the fans' respect, especially in a company that tends to enjoy de-pushing hot acts so they don't get too big for their britches (unfortunately, a policy set off by Brock himself, as Vince didn't want anyone ELSE quitting for other shores once they got famous).

-Brock is a Powerhouse on the level of Undertaker or Kane, with a Multiattack strike, the huge F-5 finisher, and a high-strength Punch at Gold level, and a Strength Boost at Silver. This has the odd effect of giving his Silver Version TWO boosts to Strength, making his PL a little weird.

-Easily the least-popular and most-obscure character in the game, I can only imagine Big E (he dropped his surname "Langston" because the company digs shorter names) is in because they wanted another black guy. Not that there isn't numerous amounts of black guys in company history, but he's one of the few notable ones around now, I guess. I woulda gone with the more-acrobatic Kofi Kingston, though. A star collegiate athlete in weightlifting (his short, stocky frame makes him ideal for power-lifting), Big E was quickly signed by the size-conscious WWE, who made him a big name in NXT. He debuted in WWE proper as an enforcer working for A.J. Lee & Dolph Ziggler, but didn't get up to much. He received a quickie push to the Intercontinental Title, but the belt had lost its significance by that point, and so it was scarcely a push. Seriously, WWE REALLY doesn't use the IC Title that well- CURTIS AXEL, the useless son of Mr. Perfect, held the belt for MONTHS and did nothing with it. Big E was no different, pretty much just defending against midcarders before he was beaten by Bad News Barrett. Shortly thereafter, he descended back into the midcard, where he really got a bad rep for mediocre, botch-filled matches. It wasn't until he was set up with two other black wrestlers who weren't doing anything- Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston- that he got something else to do.

-As The New Day, the group had a... fairly uncomfortable gimmick. Seriously, Vince likes black wrestlers who clap, smile and dance alot. Really, REALLY easy to read connotations into that. His Happy Dancing Black Guys stable failed to get over with the live crowds to the point where they got SERIOUSLY booed... but unlike most times where this happens lately, the group was turned heel, becoming an effective sarcastic band of jackasses. And this of course made them over like Vince wanted in the first place, as they were extremely silly, bizarre and random, and The New Day thus became one of the biggest acts in the company! Multi-time tag champions, they were a big deal, but Kofi Kingston got the signature push. It remains to be seen if there's anything more for Big E.

-Big E is a fairly low-end guy, having a Bronze version with a weird boost (a 10% chance at gaining "Unblockable" moves for 6 seconds if he blocks an attack first), and a Silver version who can slightly enhanced the Strength of his team after hitting a Special Move).

Last few, are all pretty good.

I'm glad that Roman currently is actually working. They're using him the way they should.

Edit: You know, Bryan did win the world title when he came back IIRC

CAPTAIN AMERICA:

-What can I say about Cap? I'm CANADIAN, and he's one of my favourite Marvel characters ever. Guy's pure bad-ass, and in spite of being one of the poster boys for Dorky Comic Book Moralistic Superheroes, gets constant cred from even other tough guys. He's survived virtually every era of comics (except the '50s), and they still can't get rid of him. Though they started to write him like an exact rip-off of his Ultimate Cap version before he died, his book was still a top seller. There's just nobody who better represents the ideals of the Marvel Universe (Spider-Man better embodies the concept of the "Everyman" nature of realistic heroes with problems, as opposed to DC's more "Symbolic" characters) or of what America SHOULD be. He's proud, noble and kind, but not afraid to kick some SERIOUS ass if required.

Cap EXPLODED onto the 1940s comic book scene, with an amazing cover that consisted of him PUNCHING ADOLF HITLER IN THE FACE (still about the greatest cover ever). He instantly surpassed the guy he basically copied- MLJ's The Shield (a pissed-off MLJ resulted in Cap soon gaining the famous disc-shaped shield to replace the one that looked just like The Shield's chest emblem... but it didn't stop Cap from rapidly-outselling MLJ's top hero), and becoming the symbol of "Timely Comics". Marvel's Golden Age was kinda funny, as they weren't even a fraction as big as DC or National aside from Cap, using the Human Torch & The Sub-Mariner as also-rans to the very popular patriotic hero, and it's reflected even in modern-day stories, where Marvel easily plays fast & loose with it's terrible Golden Agers, updating them freely to the modern era, whereas DC either has tons of great guys (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, GL, Flash) or crappy characters turned into great ones (Wildcat, Hourman, etc.). I mean, compare Marvel's Whizzer (hee), Miss America and The Destroyer to DC/National's all-stars, or even their lamer guys like Hawkman, Dr. Fate & Aquaman.

Cap pretty much entirely fought Evil Germans & Japanese at first (though looking at modern stories, you'd think he only fought Germany- they REALLY avoid talking about the Pacific war in comics, largely due to PC issues). He was given a sidekick "So he wouldn't just be talking to himself all the time", and he started selling a million issues per month (which would be unheard of today). His creators, Joe Simon & Jack Kirby, left after ten issues, but he remained popular during the course of the war. In the post-War years, sales faded. Stan Lee (who got his start in comics writing a prose story in Captain America #3), a former Office Gopher and nephew to Timely's owner Martin Goodman, wrote a bunch of stuff, including an issue where Bucky got shot and was replaced by Cap's girlfriend Betsy Ross (Stan HATED Boy Sidekicks). The book ended around #73, being retitled into a Horror Anthology and ending two issues later, in 1949.

Post-War Cap:
Timely, now Atlas Comics, attempted to revive him in the 1950s, but the sales just weren't there, and he soon disappeared- Captain America- Commie Smasher! would later be explained away in a Retcon, while The Sub-Mariner & Human Torch revivals also failed, and Atlas went right back to Goodman's standby- Ripping off whatever's popular (in this case, it was Western, War & Romance comics). It wouldn't be until the 1960s before we'd get a REAL Cap return- in the famous Avengers issue where they uncover Steve, having been trapped in suspended animation- Stan & Jack were the powerhouse duo here, and immediately made Cap the leader of the team and it's most-outstanding member- he even stuck around when the original crew all left (a watershed moment that basically made him THE Avenger), and were replaced by newbie ex-villains.

Cap was almost always with the team afterwards, having to deal with being trapped in a different time (though it's mind-boggling to think of now, he was trapped in ice for like FIFTEEN YEARS back then- his friends would only be a little older!). He got an ongoing in one of the Duo-Based anthology books, often teaming up with S.H.I.E.L.D. or doing government work. And oddly, he was able to stay perfectly-relevant as anti-government sentiment built up in the sixties, thanks to a great concept by later writers- Cap was America as it SHOULD BE, not America as it IS. This core concept made him an amazing Symbolic Character (most of the most-important and popular comic characters are symbols- Superman is the ultimate man/ubermensch; Captain Marvel is what every boy wishes he could be; Batman is everything a real man COULD BE; Spider-Man is his audience; Wonder Woman is the apex of womanhood), and allowed him to exist without irony during troubled times like Vietnam & Watergate. It also made him the PERFECT character for when writers wanted to make comments ABOUT the government being evil- when Richard Nixon resigned in the shadow of the Watergate scandal, the Number One of the villainous Secret Empire was revealed to be a top-level Washington figure, who them committed suicide, breaking Cap's faith in America (much as the American people's faith in the highest office had been broken).

Mark Gruenwald started a near ten-year run on the book in 1985, quickly becoming associated with the character above anyone else. No writer has ever loved their character quite like Gru loved Cap- he gave gave Cap a TON of respect as an experienced hero, frequently had him wipe out entire gangs of Jobber Villains, and had "vs. Battles" against many other Marvel heroes, but cannily wrote most of them as having a chance and not getting curbstomped. He cleverly wrote about a murderous vigilante killing scores of the worst villains Marvel had to offer (Gru explicitly hated some of the goofier ones, like Turner D. Century, and felt they weakened Marvel) with The Scourge of the Underworld, and even had Cap resign his commission and John Walker take it over. Walker was everything Steve Rogers wasn't- an angry, arrogant malcontent who rushed in without thinking and was willing to kill, and we saw the horrible repurcussions of when someone like him takes such a highly-regarded position.

Gruenwald wrote a ton of stories featuring The Red Skull and his new gang of villains (The Skeleton Crew), featured billions and billions of WONDERFUL JOBBERS in stories that involved vigilantes hunting them down, or Misandrist Bitches trying to erase men from the world using Female Jobbers as minions. He had his fair share of goofy storylines (Capwolf is particularly infamous, but there's also Cap accidentally taking cocaine, and the time Superia tried to turn him into a woman). Few writers did more to add things to Cap's mythos, but most of his characters fell by the wayside. Gruenwald would later be taken off the book as Cap & other heroes died fighting Onslaught, and ROB LIEFELD of all people replaced him in the Heroes Reborn version of the character- Gruenwald died suddenly so shortly after this that people suggested and joked that the awful Liefeld comics literally had a hand in his demise. When Steve and the other heroes were resurrected, Mark Waid took over the character for a while.

As a character who's been around for eons, Cap has gone through some changes- he quit being Cap and was now "Nomad", a wandering hero "without a country". He started teaming with The Falcon, representing Black America. He resigns his position again (simply going as The Captain, in a fancy black costume) when the government decides that Cap is now going to be their official Hatchet Man, and is replaced by John Walker, a more aggressive, "modern" hero, who proves unable to handle the burden of the position, demanding Steve take the role back. He lost the Serum, but it turns out it wasn't just a regular drug and so he was ALWAYS Serum-ified, then had to wear an exoskeleton while his body wore down. A blue transfusion from The Red Skull saved his life, and then he lost his shield and had to cart around an Energy Shield for a bit until his old one got fixed indirectly by Klaw.

Modern Cap:
-Cap was killed during Civil War (in which Mark Millar portrayed him as a Fascist-hating asshole more akin to his Ultimate Marvel persona, while trying to make Tony Stark seem more sympathetic... and failing), which led to various shenanigans (and his old partner returned from certain death, then became the new Cap), and he took the role back. More recently, he lost the Super-Soldier Serum and we needed ANOTHER replacement Cap (there have now been seven, but three were retcons so only four REALLY count), this one being The Falcon. Not sure why they needed to do this so soon after we had Bucky-Cap, but they wanted some quickie Diversity Hires, ya konow? This is the kind of stuff that happens to a long-running hero to keep him fresh.

Cap returned for a short while again, but then Nick Spencer (or The Superior Foes of Spider-Man fame) came along and decided to make Cap EVIL for a big story-arc. The early going, in which Steve revealed that he had been an agent of HYDRA all along, went over disastrously, as comics fans fell betrayed and insisted this was re-writing the character to make the Falcon and others look better, as it was a retcon that "America used the first Cosmic Cube to brainwash Cap into being a loyal America", but by the end of the story, we'd learn that it was Kobik, a sentient Cosmic Cube, that'd reversed the actual story, which is the one we'd always known. So a lot of that fury was really for naught, and featured a really long "Evil Empire controls the world" story arc in Secret Empire, but I think a lot of the damage was done, as Marvel and its writers had been openly teasing upset fans for a bit too long already, and this whole mess didn't help.

Having read Ed Brubaker's epic Cap run, I'm seriously impressed. It's very much a gritty "Street Level" campaign, replacing goofy power feats and giant costumed buffoons with dark WWII imagery, evil background villains, vile corporations, and of course, The RED SKULL, one of the most authentically & terrifyingly evil characters in the entire medium of comic books. What's scariest about the Skull is that he's very much a realistic, forseeable villain that actually represents a part of humanity's history, which is FAR worse than "Cosmic Evil Dictator" or "Chaotic Evil Super-Powered Guy"- guys like the Skull ACTUALLY EXISTED. Hell, he's practically NOT AS EVIL as some of them!

Also: Dear Lord- Captain America's Wikipedia page is actually SHORTER THAN X-23'S. What in CRAP is wrong with Wikipedia these days?

So I set out to do a Re-Building of my Avengers builds, but on looking closely at Cap, I realized that I wanted to stat up Steve, Black Widow, Bucky & U.S. Agent as part of the Avengers run, but I ALSO wanted to stat up Protocide (who I hadn't touched on yet). Then there was Isaiah Bradley. Plus there's a Chick Bucky who I think is the one from Heroes Reborn. Ultimately, I just decided on doing a run at the Cap-verse- it also allows me to re-post some other stuff into the new thread, with some modifications from my older building style.

To-Do List

Post by Jabroniville »

The To-Do List:
* As I've already statted up all of these guys, I decided to do a slightly different thing than the old days, where I'd post guys in a specific order based off of their importance or the interest I might draw (Cap, Falcon & Red Skull being "A", U.S. Agent being "B", Eel being "E" and so on...). So you'd get a day where an "A" and an "E" would be posted or a "C" and a "D" or something so I didn't just spam out all the big names. But Cap's world is so segmented off at times that I figured I'd shake it up, and instead post guys in themed "groups". This might make a day or two have only weaksauce names, but so be it.

The roster includes most of the bigger-name people that Cap has fought or allied with over the years.

The Main Man: Captain America
Ideological Foes: Adolf Hitler, The Hate-Mongers, Master Man, Americop, Baron Blood
The '60s: Sharon Carter, Batroc's Brigade, M.O.D.O.K., M.O.D.A.M.
The Replacement Caps & Co.: Bucky/Winter Soldier, The Grand Director, Nomad, Rikki Barnes, Ian Rogers, Isaiah Bradley, U.S. Agent, BattleStar, Left & Right-Winger, Protocide, Major America
The Red Skull & His Armies: The Red Skull I-II, Crossbones, Mother Night, Sin, The Sisters of Sin, Arnim Zola, Doughboy, Machinesmith, The Exiles, Cutthroat, Dr. Faustus
The Serpent Society/Bad Girls Inc.: Every Serpent Society member, Impala
The Superia Stratagem: Superia, Dr. Nightshade, Ion, Snapdragon, Iron Maiden

Complications:
Responsibility (America/Democracy)- As the proud symbol of America, Cap is the one most-affected by attacks against her, as well as the target of her enemies. He also feels it the most when America has lost its way.
Enemy (The Red Skull)- Pervasive and omni-present, the Skull will haunt Steve for the entirety of his days.
Guilt (Bucky)- Cap failed his first young partner in his own mind, and this guilt often drives him.
Relationship (Sharon Carter)- She was his easily-captured girlfriend for years, then she was thought-dead. They sort of hooked back up after she returned, but it often gets complicated by duty.
Relationship (Bucky Barnes)- The two were old partners, and have an uneasy relationship as adults.
Relationship (The Falcon- Steve & Sam are old friends, and respected partners.
Relationship (Tony Stark)- They are sometimes great friends, and have an important history, but they argue as often as not, and have had several tiffs. Sometimes, they act like old, spurned lovers.
---
Responsibility (Works Best on Teams, Values Human Life)- When on solo missions, or fighting less-powerful individuals, Cap will often "Scale Back" his offense, dropping two points of accuracy & defense (thus hitting PL 11). He will not use Power Attack against normal Humans without extremely good reason- even against recurring foes like Batroc & Crossbones, he typically fights as an Accurate Attack-using PL 11 fighter.
Power Loss (Shield)- If Cap misses badly with his Shield (natural 1-5), he will be unable to use its attacks or defenses until he runs up and grabs it. Similarly, if an enemy catches it (this almost never happens; it's probably super-difficult and just the GM writing a Critical Fumble that way), the same applies.
Power Loss (Super-Soldier Serum)- If Cap has the Serum taken out of him (it's happened a few times), he loses a great many of his Advantages, in addition to all his powers. Sometimes it's just a few (he works out enough to be strong without them), other times he loses the full breadth of his abilities, becoming weedy ST 0, STA 0, AGI 0 Steve Rogers.

Total: Abilities: 94 / Skills: 92--46 / Advantages: 60 / Powers: 23 / Defenses: 22 (245)

-Like I said, Cap is a great Symbolic Character- he represents the America of Norman Rockwell, and the nostalgic dreams of old people that were never really true, but are great ideals anyhow. Similarly, he ALSO represents a great aspect of Wish-Fulfillment (a big part of superhero books, naturally)- he was a scrawny little weakling that gains ultimate power, becoming a Batman-esque symbol of human perfection. I can't believe it took the Captain America movie to finally point out WHY this was such a great idea- "Because only a WEAK man knows the value of strength".

-There's some odd quirks about his history now- when he FIRST got thawed out of the ice, he'd only been missing since the mid-'40s, and it was now 1964- not exactly an eternity of difference, and yet he was STILL all "oh wow, stuff is so different"- it's like a dude getting frozen in 2000 and coming back to see a Post-9/11 world- quite a bit had changed, but it's not like the world was completely alien to the one he'd left. But NOW? Now, Cap has likely been frozen for more than FIFTY YEARS- friend who were "slightly older" in the new era of the Silver Age should now be near-death from age. I think it's best just to not think about that kind of continuity stuff- either your head will break or you'll have to write some dopey half-assed story about 900 people taking "Infinity Formula" or something. This has an odd tendency to make fans think Cap is more experienced that he actually is- objectively, he's got at MOST five years' experience on any of the modern Silver Age heroes like Iron Man & Spidey. Some people act like he's been fighting SINCE World War II.

-Guys like Cap are what PL 11 and 12 were made for. There's NO WAY this guy could be a "mere" Player Character build and be remotely accurate to what the comics show. As a solo hero, he needs a reasonable amount of Skillmonkey points. He's a Melee God, necessitating tons of attack Advantages as well. His physical attributes are already noted as being the maximum a human could ever get, so there's that, PLUS the fact that he's no dummy (Intellect 3), is REALLY hard to fool (Awareness 5), and has the charisma to lead the entire Marvel Universe into battle against even cosmic beings (Presence 5, but I could go even higher if not for fears of stat-dumping). Like a lot of others, I build the Super-Soldier Serum as having minor superhuman effects, making Cap slightly faster, stronger and able to recover better than a normal human, but not to crazy levels. Think about a scary opponent: he's as fast as Usain Bolt, hits like the World's Strongest Man, but strikes as fast as Bruce Lee.

-He spends more points of ADVANTAGES than most people do on POWERS, and rightly so: Nobody is considered a better fighter than him until they go into the ranks of Shang-Chi and Iron Fist, both of whom are packing ridiculous bonuses. Cap is +16 and able to modify nearly every single PL cap he has- making him hit at +21 accuracy if necessary, or +13 maximum damage if Power Attacking. His points-cost is a little ridiculous, but given how Skillmonkeys took a hit in this edition, it makes sense: My Spidey build is about 20 points cheaper, and DCA's own major characters are just as costly, if not more.

-Cap's Shield is always a bit of a toughie to stat up, as CAP is the one who's good with it, despite it boosting so many of his attributes, and he's conceivably as good with any disc-like weapon. Taliesin for example has statted up a version that uses the Shield Toss as a base Power requiring a Shield Device to work, but I wanted to go a little simpler with the common Device, hand-waving any questions about it (it's not like Cap uses a trash can lid as easily, for example, or as often). The Shield, at heart, has a "Bash" power (+8 Damage, for when he wants to smack some dude in the face with it). Then a "Blocking" Power, giving him the Shield effect, plus two bonuses that specialize in avoiding Area Attacks and attacks in-close (Cap has survived the Torch's NOVA FLAME just by hiding behind the thing- a literal impossibility, but the Shield is just THAT DAMN GOOD, I guess- he made his Save and took no damage :)). It helps him become Immovable at the same time.

-And then we get to the "Blast" effect. It's only a +7 weapon in the right hands (like Cap's), so someone like The Wasp wouldn't be able to throw it as hard. Then it gets Ricochet 5 for when he bounces it off of things and hits guys he can't see or the like, and Homing for when he "misses" on purpose, beaning the target in the back of the head on the run-through on the following round. Another variant of the attack has the Shapeable Area Effect, as Cap is able to bounce it off of several guys at once if necessary, no matter where they're standing in the room. At Touch Range, it's effectively a Blast dependent on the strength of the wielder. It has a Complication that if you miss (or your opponent makes a special attack to "grab" it), you lose it. It happens only rarely, but it does happen.

-Finally, we come to the Shield's own Power Feats. You get Indestructible for obvious reasons (I think that if the Living Tribunal ever destroyed the entire universe, you'd get a white page with a little round shield at the centre of it), as well as a Restricted Feat, because not ANYBODY can just pick up the thing and use all of the Powers- most guys can just use the Bash & Defenses and that's it.

-All in all, Cap at PL 12 isn't entirely the most efficient use of that status, but I think that fits him. He's PL 10.5 unarmed, PL 12 with the Shield Bash, PL 11.5 with the Toss, and only fully makes up his Dodge-based defensive caps for PL 12. And even THEN he's got to use a Dynamic Array, leaving him somewhat vulnerable if he's using more powerful version of the Shield (this is explained via the fact that if he's using full Ricochet, his Shield spends enough time away from him that he doesn't get to use the full defenses). This, plus the "Works Best on a Team" thing, can explain why this PL 12 super-awesome fighter can be challenged by relatively minor-level characters in terms of power, and wouldn't necessarily steamroll a "lesser" PL 10 Martial Artist like Shang-Chi or Danny Rand.

Total: Abilities: 94 / Skills: 88--44 / Advantages: 60 / Powers: 23 / Defenses: 17 (238)

-Here's a slightly scaled-back Cap, more akin to certain Street Level-type adventures. He's STILL really capable, and wayyyy over-cost for his PL, but hey, it's still Captain Friggin' America. At PL 11 with most of his attacks, he's enough for most heroes anyways. This is Cap as he would be while fighting Crossbones, Batroc or numerous other Goons, or just a lower-level Cap for an '80s Campaign or something.

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Brock Lesnar! Captain America Builds!)

Steve's just an amazing character, showcasing that you can be patriotic without being jingoistic, someone with integrity without being boring, and be a Boy Scout while still being a badass. While Spider-Man is my overall favorite Marvel character, Steve is tied with Iron Fist for the #2 spot (and Thor being #3).

There's just something timeless and classic about Steve. He shows that classic superhero can work in a modern age, his look is just perfect, his use of the shield is brilliant and iconic, and he's spawned numerous imitators over the years. In his own way, Steve casts as large a shadow as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Every flying brick gets compared to Superman. Every masked vigilante gets compared to Batman. Every "everyman" superhero gets compared to Spider-Man. And every patriotic hero gets compared to Steve, to the point that guys like the Shield who came first are considered Cap imitators.

I think one justification for Steve's experience being considered so great is that, while he's only been a superhero about 5 years longer than other New Age Marvel Heroes, he spent those 5 years in World War 2, which is a harsher climate than most heroes ever have to deal with. Not just the regular war stuff, but the crazy super science, the supernatural stuff, supervillains and so on. The reason he's such a legendary combatant, adaptable fighter and exceptional field commander is because he spent his formative years in one of the most demanding situations imaginable. So when the Avengers find him a month into their career, Cap is the only one with actual experience outside of Thor, who himself is still new to being a "superhero" rather than a warrior.

Plus with the sliding time scale of "The new age of heroes happened between 10 and 15 years ago", that 5 year head start Steve has still puts him above most other heroes.

If anything, it's weird how this often doesn't apply to Spider-Man is actually one of the most experienced heroes in Marvel, having gotten his start around the same time as the FF, the Avengers and the original X-Men. While his attitude should make his opponents underestimate him, everyone else should realize the guy has been in this for the long haul and knows what he's doing.

Regardless, Steve is just a great character. We could use more heroes like him.
