-Minute-Man's another Fawcett hero, basically a soldier with a patriot riff (and a fancy American Flag dress-shirt!). Overshadowed by more popular acts like Captain America, he's had few modern showcasing save for The Power of Shazam! stuff set in the past (in modern times, he was a government agent), and an offscreen death in the first JSA arc, as the patriot-themed heroes and their families who were murdered by Vandal Savage.

-Minute-Man's a standard fighty hero, being PL 7, and hardly much more than a minor threat (he's PL 5 unarmed).

Complications:
Motivation (The Nazi Cause)- Captain Nazi was first a loyal soldier, and then a Neo-Nazi in modern times.
Enemy (The Marvel Family)- Captain Nazi most typically fights Captain Marvel, Jr., and is responsible for crippling Freddy Freeman.

Total: Abilities: 80 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 20 / Defenses: 12 (134)

-Captain Nazi is one of the first big super-villains of the Golden Age of Comics, and a literal actual NAZI SUPERVILLAIN created at the same time as the actual Nazi party, and is kinda sadly forgotten about, rendered a forgotten Jobber by today's standards. He was given powers by his Nazi father, a scientist who made him the "perfect specimen" to fight on behalf of Hitler and the Fourth Reich. He was given super-strength and durability, and had a "special gas" administered that allowed him to fly. He is sent to battle superheroes by Hitler, and fights both Captain Marvel & Bulletman, escaping after he fails to kill them.

-However, in his second appearance, published that same month, another fight with Marvel sees him attack two innocent bystanders- an old man is killed, but the man's grandson Freddy Freeman is merely crippled. A saddened Marvel promptly chooses to share his powers with Freddy, turning him into Captain Marvel, Jr. Freddy then defeats Captain Nazi himself. Captain Nazi turns into a recurring foe for Freddy, given this link, but also joins Mister Mind's Monster Society of Evil. He last appearas in Golden Age comics in Captain Marvel, Jr. #14 in 1944, skipping out just as the war finally turns against the real Nazis for good.

-Captain Nazi reappears in the 1970s DC books, but only sporadically. Given that the War had ended and all, the character was kind of vastly out of date. Roy & Dann Thomas reimagine him in 1988, naming him Lester Abernathy, a young Neo-Nazi given the powers by "The Sons of Valhalla"... but this version made no further appearances and was retconned out of existence only six years later by Jerry Ordway. The new origin story is that Captain Nazi was a Golden Age villain, and fought the Fawcett Comics heroes of old (now not including Captain Marvel, who was a modern hero), but placed himself in suspended animation so he could revive the Third Reich when he returned. This version keeps his maiming of Freddy and murder of Freddy's grandfather, but as a third-tier Marvel Family villain, he doesn't matter much and is mostly forgotten.

-His next listed appearance is all the way in Villains United, where Gail Simone uses him as a humble goon working for Luthor and his "Society"- I particularly remember the bit where he's a prison guard of the Secret Six, and ends up with a half-dozen pain-enhancing syringes shoved into his eyeballs by Catman. With cybernetic eyes, he reappears in Batman working for Black Mask, but is killed by The Red Hood, who jams tasers into them. Later, he returns fighting Black Adam, and suggests that he's not even human- he is the living avatar of National Socialism. He shows up with "The Fourth Reich" in JSA, executing the family of Hank "Steel" Heywood, but their actions leave a new Citizen Steel with powers.

-Captain Nazi is extremely powerful, given he has to fight the Marvel Family, but is a brute and a moron. He was more of a conniving foe in the Golden Age, but in any modern comic I've read, he's a simple-minded goon and nothing more. Overall I made him a PL 10.5 powerhouse- enough to challenge Freddy (who is PL 11) one on one, but not enough that a team of superheroes or villains can't curbstomp him.

Teeth +6 (+14 Damage, DC 29)
Initiative +2

Defenses:
Dodge +8 (DC 18), Parry +8 (DC 18), Toughness +12, Fortitude +12, Will +6

Complications:
Responsibility (The Empire of Japan)- Captain Nippon was created by Emperor Hirohito to be their own "Captain Nazi".
Enemy (The Marvel Family)- Captain Nippon most typically fights Captain Marvel, Jr.

Total: Abilities: 92 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 9 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 9 (132)

-Coming only a year after Captain Nazi debuted was Captain Nippon. However, rather than a Flying Brick who looked like a big, muscular dude, this was a short, squat, sharp-toothed freak with bad facial hair- all stereotypes associated with the Japanese (they were often depicted as dark yellow monsters with slit eyes and huge buck teeth). He wore a similar costume to Captain Nazi, and was created by Emperor Hirohito and the Black Dragon Society to be the champion of Japan. Dark sorcery was used to create him- brute power, hate, terror, murder, lust and anger were combined by the "Jamambux" secret society of medievalists, and he was given grea strength and the "intellect of a master spy".

-He is properly introduced to Captain Nazi, and both Captains are sent to America, to kill as many military officers as possible- their killing spree gains the attention of Captain Marvel Jr.- Captain Nippon KO's the kid with a spiked club and escapes. Recovering, CMJr. follows them to their submarine base, where the use all manner of weapons against him (including the severed head of Medusa and an iron maiden), but the hero chases them off and rescues some hostages. Captain Nippon reappears with a new costume, sabotaging American industries by using his powerful teeth to chew through things. Captain Marvel Jr. defeats him by giving him some super-chewy taffy that incapacitates his jaws, in a very "Golden Age" twist. The character appears twice more- CMJr. destroys an invasion force from Japan in the first, then as "General Nippon", the villain tries to sabotage the "Colossus Dam" in the U.S.

-As you might expect, a guy who essentially weaponizes racist caricatures has not reappeared in modern times- not even as a reflection of old ways or as a redefined modern character with less racism attached. DC pretty much just ignores that this guy ever existed.

-The character is pretty clearly a powerhouse, but only really fights Captain Marvel Jr. He has the power to collapse entire buildings by biting through their support beams, however.

NIPPO THE NIPPONESE (Real Name Unknown)

Otto Binder & C.C. Beck
First Appearance: Captain Marvel Adventures #9 (April 1942)
Role: Racial Stereotype

-Yes, NIPPO THE NIPPONESE. An occasional foe of Captain Marvel's, he proclaims to be the master of Jiujistsu from his native Nagasaki, but Captain Marvel dismisses him as a mere champion boaster and presumably defeats him. He's your typical Japanese caricature of the time- bloated, yellow as hell, with sparse and shitty-looking facial hair, buck teeth, and more. And he's called NIPPO, after the Anglicization of Japan's name (Nihon) as "Nippon", with the people therefore dismissively referred to as "Nips", especially in the Wartime period.

He makes exactly one post-Golden Age appearance, in the Who's Who entry for the Monster Society of Evil, where the author is nice enough to note that since he was from Nagasaki ... yeah, you can guess where this goes, right?

Defenses:
Dodge +10 (DC 20), Parry +10 (DC 20), Toughness +14, Fortitude +14, Will +7

Complications:
Motivation (Destroying Humanity)- Kull seems to wish to destroy the world- humanity slew the Submen race years ago, and he seems rather bitter at losing his empire.
Enemy (The Marvel Family)

Total: Abilities: 110 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 9 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 14 (150)

-Interestingly, one of the Marvel Family foes to have the most longevity and modern appearances was a VERY late-comer- appearing in 1951, only two years before the entire line got the axe! King Kull is the ruler of the Submen, a brutish but technologically-advanced race of pre-humans who once dominated humanity until a mass revolt thousands of ago. The Submen are all killed, while Kull fakes his death with a bomb and survives until the 20th century in suspended animation. Kull typically appears as a super-strong menace, but also uses high technology, throwing things like "Sin Bombs".

-Kull was revived in the 1970s DC stories about the Marvels- he was actually the main baddie in the re-debut of the characters! There, he had de-powered the Marvels, and the wizard Shazam telepathically guided the Justice League & Society to unite their forces and save the day. Kull assaults Earths 1, 2 & S along with a variety of villains from all three worlds, then turns Superman evil with Red Kryptonite and sends him against the heroes- ultimately Captain Marvel Jr. destroys the Kryptonite, Mary Marvel frees the heroes, and Captain Marvel knocks out King Kull. The character had not appeared in real continuity since The Crisis on Infinite Earths, but showed up in Justice League: Cry For Justice as a background villain. He has since become a character in the "DC Rebirth" era, showing up from the Earthlands and joining the Monster Society of Evil.

-A similar character named the "Beast-Ruler" appeared earlier. Re: Wikipedia: He was created by the mad scientist Sivana with a humanoid body and animal qualities like a gorilla's strength, a serpent's speed, a tiger's fighting skills, a fox's cunning, a lion's bravery, and an elephant's memory after imbuing it with the lifeforce that was drawn from 1,000 animals. He turns against Sivana and tries to attack humanity with an animal army, hating man despite his similar appearance and planning to make animals rule. Captain Marvel leads an army of animals against his. He is finally thrown over a waterfall in a fight with Captain Marvel.

-King Kull is a very unusual villain- a combination of Barbaric Brute and Gadgeteer. As the Submen had extremely high technology, Kull would use all manner of inventions against the Marvels. He was strong enough to oppose them physically, but seems a bit diminished- a "mere" PL 12. The main trouble with him seems to be his schemes and incredible gear. Also sometimes he appears to be incredibly huge- a "covers always lie" visual cue in the 1950s, and an actual thing in the 1970s comics. I figure the stats aren't really different either way, save for incredible size.

King Kull is an offensive caricature non-homo-sapiens sapiens. At least that's what my Neanderthal and Denisovan friends tell me. Fawcett couldn't help themselves.

This could be an awesome Justice League Dark villain, what with Swamp Thing.

Not the Bulleteer or Human Bullet.

Bullet Man is on the right.

Ares is correct. The woman on the left is Bullet Girl.

-Master Man is a forgotten Golden Age superhero published by Fawcett Comics- he's stated to be a sickly young boy saved by a "wise old doctor" who gave the boy a "magic capsule" containing every source of energy known to man. This apparently one-of-a-kind steroid pill turned the boy into a superhuman powerhouse, capable of running faster than an automobile. The character was a clear knock-off of Superman, and so National Comics (the publishers of Superman) threw out an immediate lawsuit, killing the book after six issues as Fawcett just figured they'd give up- National was already suing them over Captain Marvel, after all, and only that one was worth fighting.

-Though Master Man's costume is so generic and the concept weak enough that I'm shocked that DC bothered- he doesn't seem any worse than many other characters who didn't get sued into oblivion. This character, and the similar Golden Age Wonder Man, were both early victims of National being protective over their new cash-cow, and Captain Marvel would prove to be the strongest challenger, taking more than a decade to kill off.

-Master Man probably fits a lot of generic "Golden Age Hero" templates. Just ramped up a bit so he's a super-powerhouse by those standards.

Hm. When I re-envision the DCU, I usually put Captain Marvel in the Golden Age Superman's spot in the JSA, but this guy ... this guy might work better.
