WILD BOAR (Sus scrofa)
Role:
Fat Prey Species
Range: Europe, Asia & North America (mostly hybrids)
Stereotypes: Stupid, flatulent. Easily-angered.
Colouring: Brown, grey, black
Size: Up to 6 feet long (100-800 lbs.)
Encounter Groups: Mixed sounders of 4-16
Diet: Grass & vegetation, opportunistic meat eaters.
Tactics: Gore savagely with tusks

-Wild Boars are among the largest of all pigs, and hybrids between them and feral pig populations can grow to morbidly obese 800-lb. specimens that defy description and provide fat rednecks with tons of "Kill poses" on Google Image Search. They're big and goofy-looking, but make no mistake- they can be extremely dangerous, and full grown males have been known to gore TIGERS to death in self-defense. It's basically a mildly-Growth-having big fat monster that can dish out some damage, but is rather easily victimized by serious predators (who make regular meals out of them- many large predators using them as a staple food source). Its Swine Rage is less impressive than that of some pics, but they're a bit tougher and stronger. Of similar stature is the Giant Forest Hog of Africa, the largest of the pig family.
You could have added Australia to their range. They are a major invasive species there, and pretty much the only animal Steve Irwin had no worrys about killing.
Always ask before you use someone's Original Character.
Never ever use them without permission. Only Villains do that.

Ah- didn't know about that one, but it makes sense. Though I think every animal not from Australia is an invasive species in Australia now, lol.

-Giant Forest Hogs aren't very well known, but average out to being the largest pig species in the world- 4-7 feet long and 200-600 lbs.! They live in scattered pockets around Central Africa, and are easily tamed, though males can be extremely aggressive in encounters in the wild, and may attack without warning. Deaths between rival males are common, and they can drive Hyenas away from kills. Their primary predators are groups of Hyenas and the very large Leopards of the forests.

Rivalry (Other Males)- Like moost hoofed animals, Warthogs must compete with other males for mating rights.

Total: Abilities: 6 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 10 / Defenses: 5 (35)

Era: Modern
Range: Grasslands, forests, Savannah of Africa.
Stereotypes: Stupid, flatulent. Easily-angered.
Colouring: Brown/grey
Size: Up to 5 feet long (110-330 lbs.)
Encounter Groups: Mixed sounders of 4-16
Diet: Grass & vegetation, opportunistic meat eaters.
Tactics: Gore savagely with tusks

-Warthogs are in the front-running for the crown of "Ugliest Animal Ever"- big, heavy, skinny-legged, knobby-kneed (padded wrists for kneeling on grassland), wart-covered stink-machines, they are thorougly fascinating to look at by sheer virtue of their ugliness. They're quite powerful at times, and despite being a prey animal for creatures like Lions and Wild Dogs, they are very dangerous if cornered, and once they start fighting, you'd better be careful- those tusks can cause a whole lot more than superficial wounds. In one particular instance, a Warthog got a lucky shot into the carotid artery of a predator, fatally-injuring a LIONESS.

-They have a modification of the old "Rage" Feat, but simply Fades instead of leaving them Tired (they usually use Extra Effort in this instance anyways). They're scrappy, nasty fighters that can cause damage at PL 5, but their non-Raging PL is 4. Fairly big, tough (VERY tough- Last Stand for an Advantage and all that) and nasty, they can prove fearsome, but will eventually fall to larger predators.

-The spectacularly-weird Babirusas are another Southeast Asian species, best known for their insane tusks, which in males actually grow upwards and pierce the roof of the mouth! There are a few different kinds, though they were thought of as one species until very recently- Golden, Togian, and North Sulawesi. Babirusas are light by pig standards, being only around 160 lbs. on average.

-Peccaries are medium-sized relatives of pigs hailing from South & Central America, having spread to the New World from the Old (where their ancestors became extinct)- their stomachs are more developed than those of pigs. The tiniest wild pigs, they are only 44-88 lbs. They were kept as pets in the Mayan Empire, and used in rituals. The Collared Peccary or "Musk Hog" (named for their scent glands, though all Peccaries are stinky enough to go by "Skunk Hog") goes as far north as the Southwestern United States, and lives in some urban populations, being opportunistic eaters similar to raccoons. The White-Lipped Peccary is found in rainforests, and the Chacoan Peccary is found in dry shrubs further South. The Giant Peccary is as of yet an uncomfirmed species, living in the Amazon Rainforest.

-Peccaries are among the smallest members of this Suidae, and as such have the lowest stats- only PL 2. They that aren't dangerous to humans except in large groups, but like most, have pointy tusks.

-Entelodonts- popularly named "Hell Pigs" or "Terminator Pigs", are an extinct family of pig-like omnivores from the Eocene Epoch. They were long classified as members of Suina (pigs and such), but some find them closer to whales and hippos instead. These animals do resemble pigs, but with very long muzzles, bulky bodies, and long, slender legs. Larger animals had humps on their backs to support giant heads. "Megachoerus" is the species name for the Dino-Riders Ice Age creature the Killer Wart Hog, an unusual choice- they're so odd-looking they basically appear like predatory Super-Hyenas as much as anything. Sometimes it's called Archaeotherium (literally "ancient beast").

-The Hell Pig is pretty well the same as a Dire Boar mechanically, but is more slender-looking. Naturally, there are a ton of species, many of which are poorly understood, so sizes can vary across the board.

-Dire Boars have become the "Token Mount", associated with Orcs thanks to tons of D&D and Warhammer work focused on them. I guess the piglike snouts, the flatulence and overall grossness fit most Orc stereotypes. Dire Boars are basically Wild Boars, upgraded to Mount-size, being bigger and meatier than Horses, and much more dangerous. They're PL 5-7 Mounts, using the same Swine Rage as regular Boars, and are quicker to fight. These aren't the animals of a Master Villain, Manipulator or Dark Knight, but for an uncivilized Barbarian Warlord? Sure thing.

Cows, Goats & Antelopes

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

BOVIDAE FAMILY (Order- Artiodactyla)
-This is a rather large, epic family, containing both the Antelopes and the Cattle, as well as all the Sheep. This diversity leads to vastly-different stats, sizes and ecological niches around the world. As such, I'll build each group separately. Note that some are so similar that they builds can duplicate for different species. The Ibex, a 330-lb. Antelope with GIANT curved horns, is pretty much the same thing as a Bighorn Sheep as far as the game is concerned, occupying the exact same ecological niche on the other side of the world from the North American species. Similarly, the Common or Giant Eland, a 2,210-lb. giant Antelope, is pretty much exactly the same as a standard Cow/Bull- it's just an Antelope instead.

Danger to Humans: Immense. Cattle kill farmers ALL THE TIME (sometimes by accident- given their huge size). The size of many of these things is not to be underestimated, despite people probably being used to seeing these guys as the Jobbers of Animal Planet. Wild Bison, Buffalo, Gaur and Oxen are INCREDIBLY-dangerous, prone to charging out of territorial aggression- Yellowstone Park has numerous recorded incidents of foolish people rushing up to the "Fuzzy Herbivores" trying to get pictures, then getting hammered down by a one-ton animal with extremely sharp horns.
