Tactics: Attack all-out with powerful horns, goring viciously.

-The Red Bull is something I've only seen once (not on an energy drink, I mean), in The Last Unicorn, where it was one of the greatest embodiments of evil my young mind had ever seen. He was just this massive, malevolent creature, designed only to chase and hunt the beautiful Unicorns. It was finally killed when the titular Unicorn chased it into the ocean, where it was enveloped by the rest of her species, who were already trapped within the waves.

-This is pretty much a surprise monster to toss at your party when they're in a dungeon, or they go to Hell or something. It'd also kick a lot of ass if you had two of them pulling some kind of demonic Chariot or something. A mean PL 9 creature, the Red Bull probably won't scare off a group of PL 10s, but for teenage PL 8s it's a bit more of a threat. And anyone who actually saw "The Last Unicorn" will pee themselves to death if they see it.

Id almost argue you should give him some Enhanced intimidation or a fear aura because its greatest power was the absolute terror it evoked in everything especially the unicorns it chased into the sea

it wasnt until the prince sacrificed himself that the Unicorn was able to fight back against that fear

It's lucky it didn't accidentally turn the unicorn into an alaricorn.

Damn thing is crazy, but it seems like unicorns in particular are adversely affected. +12 is a lot, as some humans will oppose it, but yeah, it's hard to say in situations like this. A 20-foot long flaming bull kind of takes the cake as far as terrifying fantasy monsters go.

Antelopes

Post by Jabroniville »

ANTELOPES:
-Generally, these poor bastards are pretty much like Deer. They're sometimes small (the Dik-Dik, real animal and not a made-up vulgar kids' name), weighs less than 20 lbs. in some instances), sometimes very large (the Eland is as large as any cow breed in the world), but generally are a "Prey" species, and the most we usually see of them is some poor schmuck being chased down by Lions or Wild Dogs, or being surprised by a Crocodile. They're basically the "Washington Generals" of the Animal Kingdom. They differ from Deer both in habitat (they're almost exclusively African creatures), and the nature of their horns, which are not seasonal, and are keratin-sheathed bone, not to mention incredibly different in size and scope, with little pegs sometimes, giant spirals in others, but they're never branched.

-Like with the cattle breeds, I kind of went all-out and found little differences between the various types, though it's trickier to differentiate these. They run the gamut from 20-lb. nothings to 2,000+ lb. beasts. Like, I never know when to quit with these things, and they're big and widespread enough that I ended up with 14-16 different "tiers".

Total: Abilities: -16 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 22 / Defenses: 8 (28)

-Yes, they are called DIK-DIKS. They are named for a call that sounds like "Zik-Zik" (so... not "dick dick", I guess?). This hilariously-named kind of Antelope is about the size of a rabbit, fitting a similar niche to the Chevrotains in the Deer Family. So puny that anything could kill them, they get by more on stealth than hitting power, and are very alert. Despite living in Africa, they aren't Endangered in the slightest, being quite common- stealth usually works better than anything else, and tiny creatures can generally breed quickly and recover from hunting quite well. Females are typically larger than males, but lack horns.

-These stats are shared by three other, very tiny Antelopes, all related.

Dik-Diks & Tiny Antelope:
SALT'S DIK-DIK: Found only around Abyssinia. Weigh about 6-9 lbs.
SILVER DIK-DIK: The smallest species of Dik-Dik, weighing only 4-6 lbs. So unknown that almost everything about them is "Data Deficient".
GUNTHER'S DIK-DIK: From Northeast Africa. About 6-11 lbs.
KIRK'S DIK-DIK: The most well-studied Dik-Dik, weighing about 16 lbs.
SUNI: From Southeast Africa. Weigh 9-15 lbs.

Image

BATES'S PYGMY ANTELOPE: From Central Africa. Weigh 4-7 lbs.

Image

ROYAL ANTELOPE: From West Africa, recognized as the world's smallest Antelope- only 5-6.7 lbs.

Image

TINY DUIKERS: Walter's & Blue Duikers- smallest of the species (stubby, short-horned Antelopes), about 13 lbs.

Complications:
Disabled (Animal)- Klipspringers cannot speak to humans, nor use their hooves to easily manipulate objects.
Responsibility (Mating)- During mating season, males of the Antelope Family will go all-out in competing with each other for the ladies. These take the form of brutal head-butting contests that leave them exhausted, and some dead.

Total: Abilities: -14 / Skills: 22--11 / Advantages: 2 / Powers: 16 / Defenses: 2 (17)

Era: Modern
Range: Savannah of Africa
Stereotypes: Exciteable & nervous.
Colouring: Brown & white
Size: Up to 3 feet long (20-40 lbs.)
Encounter Groups: Breeding pairs.
Diet: Grass & vegetation
Tactics: Flee using speed or attack all-out with powerful antlers.

-The tiniest kinds of Antelopes are easily-lifted by even the smallest people, and the neatest name belongs to the Klipspringer (Afrikaans for "rock jumper"), a 40-lb. quick-moving one. They differ from other Antelopes in that they form breeding pairs rather than herds, and maintain close, monogamous relationships throughout most of their lives. Despite being an African Antelope, they are very numerous and not endangered at all- they luck out in that their territory is nigh-inaccessible and makes for poor hunting. Their predators are usually a bit smaller- Servals, Baboons, Eagles, etc., though Leopards will prey on them as well.

-A Klipspringer gets by more on its speed and small size than any kind of hitting power, so they're low level.

Yeah, between the Red Bull and the Mammy Fortuna/Harpy scenes (and the reference to Child Ballads- thanks Mr. Beagle), The Last Unicorn is, like Watership down, one of those 'cartoons' that probably scarred a lot of kids...

-These are the antelopes similar in size to the Klipspringer- mostly from 20-40 lbs.

Tiny Antelopes:
TIBETAN GAZELLE: Also called the "Goa", they are scattered widely across their range. Form small family groups- their predators include the Himalayan Wolf & Snow Leopard. Between 29-35 lbs.
STEENBOK: Small African antelopes that live over a wide range of habitats, and are typically solitary. They are preyed upon by the African Wildcat, Caracal, Leopard, Jackal, Eagle & Pythons. About 26 lbs.

Image

BEIRA: Somewhat rare animal living over a tiny part of Ethiopia. About 20-24 lbs.
CAPE GRYSBOK: Tiny-horned, large-eared antelopes from South Africa. Little-studied and seen, but relatively common and not endangered. They are most likely solitary. About 20 lbs.
SHARPE'S GRYSBOK: Closely related to the Cape Grysbok. Short, stubby horns. About 20 lbs.

Image

ORIBI: Found spread across Africa- the sole member of its genus. Thin, straight horns. About 26-49 lbs.

Image

DORCAS GAZELLE: North African Gazelles- easily adapted to deserts, where they can go their whole lives without drinking, gaining liquids from plants and morning dew. 33-44 lbs.
DUIKERS: There are many kinds of Duikers- short, stubby Antelopes with tiny horns. Peters's, Harvey's, Maxwell's, Aders's, Zebra, Weyn's, Ogilby's, Ruwenzori, Black, Black-Fronted, White-Legged, Red-Flanked & Red Forest Duikers are about this large, from 30-40 lbs.
