-There are apparently large numbers of these things, but this was a Retcon that established that the singular one seen in many other stories was actually part of a race of such creatures. A "Fear-Eater" debuted in a series of one-offs in Marvel Comics Presents, first chasing after the Silver Surfer, trying to feed off of his fears- it made things look like the Surfer was trapped within another barrier, similar to the one Galactus erected around the Earth. However, the Surfer faced his fears and chased the monster away. Next issue, it tried to make "The Captain" (Steve Rogers when he dropped the Captain America role) fear that he was frozen in ice once more- Cap naturally faced his fears and the Fear-Eater was chased off.

-Next, the Fear-Eater faced the Thing, who overcame his fear of being the Thing forever and being rejected by others, and then Thor, whom he convinced he was dying on his sickbed and thus missing out on Ragnarok. Thor ultimately faced this challenge and expelled the Fear-Eater, who, starving, was forced to attack the very next human it found. Unfortunately, this was Daredevil- The Man Without Fear- and so the Fear-Eater died, starving to death. Okay, that's pretty funny. The Marvunapp bio writer shits all over it, however, saying it was corny and predictable (given how often D'Spayre was in the same kinds of stories, that makes sense).

-The "Fear Lords" arc of Doctor Strange would ultimately reveal that the dead Fear-Eater was part of a whole RACE of creatures, under the command of Kkallakku. When the feed off of the fears of New York's populace, Doctor Strange absorbs all of that fear into himself. The ravenous creatures then follow him through a portal, where he traps them in a dimension beyond, closing the door back behind him. The plural for them is technically "Kkallakki".

-The Fear-Eater is a Mind-Reader & Illusionist, but has no physical body with which to attack people. The Weakening effect is the dangerous one, but is still only PL 7.

-The Fear-Eaters debuted first, but Kkallakku is basically their master. Despite that, they don't really follow his orders if they actually detect some fear. His whole schtick is to climb inside someone's body and "eat" their fear, while terrifying them with hallucinations. This is high-level stuff, but typically the hero wins out in the end. In the "Fear Lords" story, Kkallakku is revealed to be the master of the Fear-Eaters, but he flees when Doctor Strange traps them in another dimension where he had lured them. Kkallakku returned during Fear Itself as a mere backgrounder in the story.

-Kkallakku has no effective Strength, and middling Toughness, owing to something that can basically not be interacted with in the physical sense. His only weakness is that he'll eventually starve to death with no fear-sustenance.

Total: Abilities: 36 / Skills: 22--11 / Advantages: 5 / Powers: 42 / Defenses: 14 (108)

-The Lurking Unknown was a means to an end in an old Stan 'n' Jack tale- Jane Foster failed the test to stay in Asgard by feeling fear for him, and I think that was the impetus to get rid of that "Hero's Girlfriend" character the writers were clearly tired of, and hook Thor up with Lady Sif. Thor himself felt some fear for the guy, and started losing the fight, but (as is common with Fear-Causers) rallied himself and won. He would sit on the shelf for TWENTY-THREE YEARS, returning to join the Fear Lords and avenge his one defeat (that on Asgard). While fighting Dr. Strange & Clea, he gained power and proved nigh-unstoppable, but (naturally) they started losing their fear (this time through anger), and he shrank into nothing. He next appeared with the other Fear Lords during Fear Itself. Of the group, he's had the least focus over the years.

-The Lurking Unknown is stealthier than you'd expect given his size, and enough to hold off Thor or Dr. Strange for an extended period of time, so long as somebody around him is a little bit afraid. He soon falters badly when they start passing a Will Save or two, and he can even SHRINK if they do it enough!

Total: Abilities: 44 / Skills: 32--16 / Advantages: 3 / Powers: 88 / Defenses: 8 (182)

-This guy originated in some REALLY weird 1970s Horror Comics from Marvel, and I have no idea what they're on about- the issue summations make little sense. Apparently he's some kind of defender who comes out of a painting (actually a hidden otherdimensional portal), fighting off the cultists of some Demon Lord named Kalumai, eventually destroying him years later. He was initially meant to be part of a rotating cast of leads in some Monster-based book, but alas, the Horror Comics weren't nearly as big as the fad would lead you to believe, and most of the books were cancelled before this could ever happen, and the character vanished into a Two-In-One tale alongside numerous other half-finished storylines & concepts- he defeats Kalumai's forces again, but disappears back into his own burning painting.

-Seemingly disappearing for a while, the Straw Man suddenly reappeared when Dr. Strange faced the Fear Lords. He announced his presence to the other Lords, and stated his intentions to stop them, then transformed himself into a mortal TV host whose program helped "inoculate" mankind against the fear these entities were trying to foment. The program also led to Doctor Strange being aware of their threat, and the two allied to stop them. The Lurking Unknown destroyed the Straw Man's corporeal form, but he used his burning body to free Strange from some restraints, allowing him to defeat the other Fear Lords. The Straw Man presumably still sits in his otherworldly realm to watch over humanity, but has never reappeared after that story-arc.

-The Straw Man is more clever than mighty, packing PL 8 offensive and PL 9 defensive stats along with a PL 10 "Haunting Laugh" Area Effect. His key advantages are in knowledge and the ability to wipe the floor with the mortal followers of the demons he opposes.

Dweller-In-Darkness maybe, but the others don't seem to do much magic. They're just fear-casting embodiments of emotion.

When they were considering visuals for this creature and its spawn/minions, I get the feeling someone was a very huge fan of Vincent Price's The Tingler.

Which, I always have to give credit to, the gimmick when watching it was hokey, but the posters were amazing.
