-Grover Raymond was the second Aries, recruited due to the early death of the first. He was short-lived as well, starting out as just a backgrounder but suddenly popping up in Steve Englehart's Captain America run, where the unused X-Men villain Lucifer's spirit possesses another criminal, then offers Grover half of his power (since one human body alone cannot contain all of it). Aries thus breaks out of prison, and attempts to kill the Falcon for some reason- the Falcon fends off both Lucifers, and so they get some kill-o-bots to help them. Falcon & an uncostumed Cap stop them, and the two men's life-forces burn out. Lucifer's spirit returns to the "Netherless Dimension" and Grover Raymond dies. The character literally died less than one calendar year after his introduction.

Weakness (Outside Their Dimension)- The LMDs will shut down without access to Zodiacal Energy from our dimension- inter-dimensional travel will shut most of them down.
Responsibility (Zodiac Nature)- The LMD Zodiacs were extremely focused onto their particular sign's habits and nature. This made Aries very arrogant and tempermental.

Total: Abilities: 26 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 54 / Defenses: 5 (104)

-Shockingly, the same guy was the "LMD Aries" for ages- he debuts in The Defenders, but embarrasses himself by first knocking out Aquarius while aiming for Nighthawk, then being tricked into slamming himself into a wall, knocking himself out as well. The character reappears led by Quicksilver, then gets broken out of prison and rejoins his allies (not even being "remade" by the Zodiac Key like some others, though he at least got a better costume). He is left deactivated in the Ankh Dimension like the others.

-LMD Aries is super-strong and hits very hard with his Horns, making a pretty well-balanced PL 8 altogether with his armour. The Blast also helps out, making him a half-effective character on a terrible team.

-Ten years after the death of his predecessor, a third human Aries shows up- he joins a small group of Zodiac members on their mission to kill Iron Man. Each guy takes a turn, but Aries did a particularly poor job- he laid a trap of magnesium strips, but Iron Man spotted him from the air and proved immune to the flames. And so Aries just CHARGED HIM, knocking himself out by headbutting the armored Avenger. And so Iron Man had him arrested. Three years later, this dunce appeared with the rest of the Cartel in a meeting, and were all slain by the LMD Zodiac members. In the Iron Man issue, this Aries was black, but he was colored white in West Coast Avengers, likely a colorists' error. The character went unnamed for decades, receiving one only very recently in a Handbook.

-Aries IV is more or less the same as the Grover Raymond version.

Gemini (Astrological Symbol)

GEMINI
Stereotypes:
Social, Talkative, Two-Sided, Clueless, Inquisitive, Unpredictable

-Gemini, "The Twins", tends to evoke Summon-related characters- nobody ever tried legit making a pair of twins equally share the role (probably because twelve is ENOUGH members for one super-villain team). The lazier the Zodiac squad, the more generic Gemini is, I've noticed- the later ones are just all guys with laser guns or something.

Enemy (Damian Link)- Joshua's brother is an honest cop, and wants to bring Joshua in.

Total: Abilities: 43 / Skills: 48--24 / Advantages: 10 / Powers: 25 / Defenses: 15 (117)

-Gemini's got one of the most messed-up origins ever in comics... he's linked to his twin brother Damian (a cop) thanks to some hootenany or another, and now has the ability to either take over his brother's body, or double his own strength because of their link. A lot of backstory for a guy who's essentially one of twelve losers, but he had much more of a solo run than most, fighting The Punisher and Ka-Zar independent from the rest of the group. I chalk it up to him actually having a personality beyond "evil" (he was a deadbeat brother and thug instead of a generic crimeboss), and he had the coolest costume of the bunch. It was pretty simple, but that half-black/half-white design is pretty visually interesting, and sticks out amongst all the half-animal suits the others were using. That didn't stop him from being killed by the Life Model Decoy Zodiac Cartel in any case.

-So Gemini was initially a goon like the rest of the Zodiac Cartel, but then he's written by Roy Thomas & Mike Friedrich in a Ka-Zar story for Astonishing Tales- he teams up with the Plunderer and, from prison, had forced his brother Damian to act as Gemini via the mind control link he had. Damian is beaten by Ka-Zar a couple of times, but manages to escape capture and is then left under his own faculties, confused over another "blackout". Gemini is loyal to Taurus during a later coup attempt, and forces Damian to fight the Avengers during another story, but is beaten up by Libra (who's turned on his allies). Joshua is later imprisoned in that story, at which point Damian is never seen again- in Gemini's next appearance, he is killed with the rest of the Cartel during the LMD attack. Kind of a strange end for a guy whose story is ludicrously complicated for someone who appeared in less than fifteen comics in five years.

-Gemini's powers are best described as a generic boost to his Physical Stats, and the ability to control his brother's movements from pretty much any distance (hence Perception Range effects combining with Ranged Senses). His brother also kinda gains Joshua's powers and when Controlled because of this link, which is complicated, but best described with Affects Others Enhanced Stats. Altogether, Gemini's a PL 7.5 melee fighter guy who's very strong, but quite cheap since, like most Zodiac guys, he's light on fluff bits. He's about enough to challenge Ka-Zar for a bit, but he'd need to cheat to win.

Gosh, there's a specific power. Mind Control (this one dude, ever).

Granted, I phrased it poorly. If I'd written 'Mind Control (my annoying sibling)' pretty much everyone who isn't a single child would want it... :)

Total: Abilities: 18 / Skills: 18--9 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 48 / Defenses: 5 (88)

-The first LMD Gemini split into two beings, one of which was emotional, and the other logical. Each chose a different side in the Zodiac/Defenders conflict, with the emotional side choosing to aide the Defenders. Eventually, BOTH sides chose to aide the heroes, and Gemini was let go free by Nick Fury for it. The character oddly appears four years later in a Savage She-Hulk issue (also written by David Kraft, who created the character), moping about being built with a taste for beer but having no money, and he gets involved with She-Hulk & Morbius when he is hired to kill Morbius by the parents of a woman he'd killed undergoing uncontrolled bloodlust. Wishing not to harm Morbius (he decides that the court's exoneration of him was just), he still takes the job so he can get close to him, and gets into a fight with She-Hulk. He seems to defeat her, but the girl's father cannot go through with killing Morbius, realizing he has a choice to become a murderer or not, which Morbius did not have. So it seems pretty clear that the whole concept of Gemini here was Kraft's exploration of the nature of choice, specifically the duality of yes-or-no answers.

-So of course Steve Englehart is like "the Zodiac Cartel LMDs are evil, right?" and uses the character as part of the group again- he joins the team when Quicksilver uses them to fight the Avengers, and he's arrested. A female Gemini later helps kill the original Cartel- eventualy, he goes to the Ankh Dimension and is rendered inert like the others- Englehart says the character was remade by the Zodiac Key, I guess. So all of Kraft's work went nowhere, lol.

-This Gemini is a tad potent, able to split off forms from himself (one white and able to blast, while the other is black and has an electrocuting touch), and grow big.

-The rebuilt and remade Gemini now has a female appearance, and could Fly and shoot Energy Blasts- I did not see that power exhibited in the West Coast Avengers arc, though, as Gemini just ran around on foot, and got housed by weak 1980s Mockingbird easily.

-Gemini IV was actually Madison "Box" Jeffries, an Alpha Flight member under hypnosis or something. When he was freed, a new Gemini showed up, but was such a background character that no name or powers were ever given. I basically made him a dime-a-dozen Elite Thug, more or less.

-Another terrible-ass design, Leo has INCREDIBLE potential for cool, but it's wasted away on a guy who looks like he's wearing a costume from Zoobilee Zoo. I mean, a LION-themed super-villain? He could have a glorious mane, a cape, whips, Lion Minions, cool armour, etc. (just look at the leonine Battle Beast from Invincible), but no, he's just wearing tan PJs with claws on them. What a loser. He was unceremoniously killed off with the rest of the lame, human Zodiac Cartel by the LMDs.

-Leo's another low-end guy, PL 6 because he's basically a Fursuiter who's a moderately-good fighter. But like most of the Zodiac Cartel, he's only got one decent attack on him, and really isn't varied at all. He gets some more Combat Advantages to match up with his leonine nature, but that's just me being nice to the poor guy.

Loser villains like this, in my opinion, are necessary. They make legitimate villains look better. The Avenger have a three issue storarc vs the combined Serpent Society/Zodiac Cartel? It makes the follow up storyarc featuring Kang look better by contrast.

All-Out Attack, Chokehold, Defensive Attack, Fast Grab, Power Attack, Improved Critical (Claws & Teeth), Improved Hold, Ranged Attack 2, Set-Up, Teamwork

Powers:
"Life Model Decoy"
Immunity 30 (Fortitude Effects) [30]
Protection 7 [7]

"Leonine Features"
Speed 3 (16 mph) [3]
Leaping 2 (30 feet) [2]
"Animal Senses" Senses 5 (Low-Light Vision, Acute & Extended Scent, Extended & Ultra-Hearing) [5]

Offense:

Initiative +5

Defenses:
Dodge +7 (DC 17), Parry +7 (DC 17), Toughness +7, Fortitude --, Will +2

Complications:
Motivation (Power)- The LMD Zodiacs are goons, plain and simple
Vulnerable (Magnetic Attacks)- As LMDs, the Zodiac are made of metal, and are prone to magnetic assault.
This made Leo very argumentative, and prone to demanding leadership and explanations about the team's actions.

Total: Abilities: 34 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 47 / Defenses: 3 (103)

-The LMD Leo is a bit better than the human one- he manages to overpower Hellcat with his claws before Gemini turns on the team and nails him with a fire hose. In the West Coast Avengers arc, he repeatedly questions Scorpio's authority, resulting in him being destroyed and replaced with a Leo that looks like Tigra.

-The LMD Leo is in fact superior, being a capable PL 7 with enhanced strength & speed, but still fairly limited. He's one of the most powerful of the entire group, though... which says a lot about them. Most notably, he's lacking Claws as a Power despite actually having them in the comics, mainly because I don't think it'd modify his stats at all- he's already pretty strong.

haha- interesting point! One of the better defenses for horrible villains yet!
