Either way, I'm confident of two things: The writer was a man and he knew nothing about biology ;~)

Except the Kinnikuman didn't start until 1979, where the Marvel Treasury Edition that debuted the Marvel villain came out in 1976.

-Captain Rectitude joined Abominatrix in many anti-She-Hulk activities, but is generally handily defeated. He's apparently had his dislike of smut increased along with his strength and durability. And he can shoot Heart-Shaped beams of Plasma from the heart-shaped emblem on his costume. This seems to be a pretty obvious shout-out/parody of The Care Bears.

Responsibility (Insane)- Adrenazon goes nuts, believing irrationally that She-Hulk deliberately ruined her life by imprisoning her husband.
Normal Identity (Adrian Lynn)- Adrian is ST 0, STA 0, AGI 0, and has presumably little Fighting skill either.

Total: Abilities: 62 / Skills: 8--4 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 18 / Defenses: 12 (104)

-Adrenazon is a She-Hulk foe who, after being crippled by her drunken husband in an auto accident that also killed her children, received a temporary cure for paralysis. Angered at the short-term effects, she stole more of the formula, which naturally gave her super-powers. Now insane, and believing that She-Hulk (who had prosecuted her husband, sending him to jail for manslaughter) ruined her life, she vowed revenge. She impersonates the hero using green body-paint (she's normally Caucasian, but covered in blood vessels). All in all, she's pretty generic, being essentially another Evil Version of She-Hulk, right down to the green skin. Being evenly matched with Jen, despite having no combat experience, she beat her once, and in the next battle, recalled her accident and willingly gave up the fight. She was then cured of her condition, and hasn't been seen since.

-Like Abominatrix, Adrenazon is really just good enough to challenge the PL 11-ish (if that) '90s-era She-Hulk once.

The Headmen

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

THE HEADMEN:
-The Headmen were the brainchild of Steve Gerber, who took them from some horror-anthology reprints printed in the 1970s. They were classically-weird and insane, so were perfect for the insane Gerber and his weird Defenders series. They fought The Defenders with their gimmick of alternate-heads and varied powers, and were used as Joke Villains later on in She-Hulk (John Byrne wanted to revive old villains) and the Busiek/Larsen Defenders (the one that got called the worst comic ever written by Wizard or somebody). Their last appearance was in the 2000s Heroes For Hire series, so they pretty much don't get a lot of play, just showing up for a laugh now and then.

Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 14--7 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 35 / Defenses: 6 (127)

-A mystic who used his minor powers to commit crimes and was sick of being treated like a fraud, Chondu (named for Chandu, a mystic hero who appeared on old radio shows) teamed up with the other Headmen to commit crimes. True to the team, he was later placed into a huge, demonic-looking form, then a Cyber-Arachnid, and repeatedly tries switching his head with others so he becomes less weird (like the time the team put his head on She-Hulk's body). He doesn't appear very much- he has a pair of one-off appearances in recent years, but the last time he was important to the plot, it was the late '90s Heroes For Hire series, with the rest of his team.

-The monster form is more fun to stat, so I went with that one- he also has varied magical powers and is pretty smart. At other times he can use She-Hulk's body (a PL 10-11 Powerhouse) or the Spider-Bot (Wall-Crawling, Extra Limbs).

-Shrunken Bones was a scientist who accidentally left himself deformed after an attempt at a biological serum to copy Hank Pym's size-shifting powers shrank his bones instead. He is a near-useless physical combatant, but was a very good inventor (often key to many schemes) and had some nasty Super-Science Guns, making him a PL 7.

Total: Abilities: 26 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 7 / Defenses: 10 (57)

-Dr. Nagan was an evil surgeon who transplanted organs from gorillas into human beings, but in a twist that could only happen in a comic book, he was attacked by the gorillas, who transplanted his head onto a gorilla's body in punishment. He appeared frequently with the Headmen for a few years, and definitely gets used the most outside of the group, since he has the iconic appearance of a dude's head on a gorilla's body- writers & artists kind of enjoy the raw silliness of the character more than the others, so you'll see him in the Negative Zone Prison 42, breaking out of The Raft during Fear Itself (losing to Justice), jobbing to Captain Ultra during a hostage situation, and more. Despite that, he's mostly just a background guy, often appearing in cameos, even while being defeated by heroes- practically a "Background Villain" there to be an identifiable guy to get beaten by somebody. He shares the name with a character that later became bigger thanks to Agents of Atlas.

-The only member of the Headmen to be created for The Defenders and not an old Anthology comic, Ruby Thursday attached a shapeshifting computer to her head and decided to run for President of the United States (I forget if Gerber was the non-drug user of the group of '70s writers or not, but WOW), but was stopped by The Defenders. She indirectly caused the death of Gerber's Omega the Unknown, and generally led the Headmen on their various missions. Bullseye later assassinates her using an appropriately-themed Rolling Stones album, but her boyfriend The Answer saves her by protecting her computer head. She has since appeared in other stories, often as a one-off villain for characters like Hellcat, the Heroes For Hire (along with the other Headmen), Wolverine (she was important during a storyline featuring Romulus), and later during a prison riot on The Raft.

-She seems like another PL 8 at first, but a recent story actually has her trouncing WOLVERINE, then temporarily holding off a whole group that included Skaar, so who bloody knows how powerful she is? She's been fended off by The Avengers Academy kids at the same time, Shang-Chi once tore through her entire team at once (popping off her head), and the prior group just used a standard Teleport Attack (via Cloak) to get rid of her, so I figure she's PL 10 offensively (allowing for the occasional stunt), but doesn't hold up well under duress, giving her a Glass... er, Ruby Jaw.

Initiative +7

Defenses:
Dodge +7 (DC 17), Parry +8 (DC 18), Toughness +12 (+6 Impervious), Fortitude +12, Will +4

Complications:
Relationship (Carl "Crusher" Creel)- Titania and The Absorbing Man are usually seen as married... somehow.
Responsibility (Overconfident)- Titania puts on a brash, disdainful personality, owing to years of being treated poorly because of her frail appearance and poor upbringing.
Enemy (She-Hulk)- Titania delivered a terrible beating to She-Hulk in her debut, and they've fought ever since, with Titania nearly-constantly losing. This has grown into an unhealthy obsession.
Phobia (Spider-Man)- Spider-Man dealt her a savage beating during the Secret Wars, and as a result, she was terrified of him for years.

Total: Abilities: 72 / Skills: 22--11 / Advantages: 12 / Powers: 16 / Defenses: 9 (120)

-Titania, taking the name from a dead victim of the Scourge of the Underworld, was a new addition to the Marvel U in Secret Wars- a suburb of Denver was added to Battleworld by The Beyonder, and a pair of the civilians there made a deal with Dr. Doom and gained superhuman powers. One of them was a scrawny dweeb named Mary MacPherran (named after a Marvel staffer) who gained superhuman strength and superhuman bust, and became Marvel's premier superstrong female villain. She started a feud with She-Hulk, beat her down, but then got her ass absolutely HANDED to her by Spider-Man as a result (the book gets criticized by many for its silly dialogue and clumsy plotting, but it gets easily forgiven by me when I consider the fact that the series is basically a long-running set of Crowning Moments of Awesome for everyone involved). I mean, Spidey just used the absolute best of his ability to dodge every single shot she threw, demolishing her with counterattacks to the point where she was a quivering, terrified wreck.

-After Secret Wars was over, she became a recurring Mook-type villain and henchwoman, usually teaming up with other super-villains to do stuff (her next appearance was as one of Baron Zemo's Masters of Evil during Under Siege- a great Avengers arc). She also began a relationship with the ABSORBING MAN of all people- the thick-headed, ugly Carl Creel ends up not only successfully hooking up with Titania, but MARRIES her.

-In the meantime, Titania quickly grew to be one of Marvel's "Go-To Filler Villains", a Journeyman type who moved from book to book, giving heroes the occasional challenge- Spider-Man (she got over her arachnophobia when she saw him beating on Creel), Captain America (Cap's pal D-Man let her escape once she proved how much stronger than him she was), She-Hulk and more. She briefly joins the Wizard's Frightful Four, takes part in Acts of Vengeance (finally getting over her fear of Spidey... just in time for him to use the "Captain Universe" powers to one-shot her), and shows up a few times against Eric "Thor" Masterson, where her relationship with Creel takes a serious turn (he even tries to settle down with her, giving up crime for a while). They even have an arc where she suffers from cancer, getting Jane Foster to help her out (she was later cured off-panel, as presumably the Thor writer Dan Jurgens left for another book and popped in the ending on his Cap assignment).

-Titania later works with the Champion of the Universe, who gave her his Power Gem (he lost a fight to She-Hulk and was barred from using the Gem)- she beats on She-Hulk, who fakes death, then grabs the Gem when Titania realizes that her life now has no purpose- her nemesis gone. Shulkie, in her Jennifer Walters form, one-punches the villainess with a Gem-assisted smack. She later pops up on the Frightful Four again, grabs one of the seven "Hammers of the Worthy" during Fear Itself, then surrenders to the female Thor because "I respect what you're doing here" (essentially giving up because FEMINISM- having read the Trade where this happens, it's by far the stupidest part of an otherwise well-written story). She has most recently been seen trying to reform again, but gets manipulated into helping The Hood.

-Titania, as a whole, is probably the most promiment female villain in the Marvel Universe, despite being a "Journeyman Jobber To The Stars", usually used as a temporary threat to people like She-Hulk or Thor. Most of the other female villains either appear rarely or against only one group of characters (Selene), turned good (Emma Frost), or aren't well-known enough (Umar). So... she's basically all that's left. She's not really big on characterization- most of what we get is her being a thick-headed, vengeful pain in the ass, and rare moments of vulnerability (the cancer thing) do little to change that. Villains like Titania are TERRIFIC, though- perfect for one-off threats, and a big enough deal that most heroes can't just one-shot her out of the way. That and the fact that she's one of the few MARRIED characters makes her a bit interesting. Plus, y'know, she's a smoking hot amazon with a fetish for bald, hairy-chested dudes. That makes her awesome.

-Titania can prove difficult to place on the strength scale, but slightly over the classic Class 100 seems to fit, as she's below the super-tough guys, and able to be beaten on by guys like Spider-Man. She's a PL 10 superheavyweight who can modify many of her caps, making her pretty useful, but she still comes out VERY cost-effective since the super-strong types are much weaker overall in this edition.

-A two-time She-Hulk villain, The Grappler was never meant to be taken seriously- he's a dumb-looking guy using a steel cable as a weapon. Despite this, he's apparently an Olympic-class wrestler- this only merits a PL 6 guy, though. His Battle Staff has some typical tricks- a VERY poor Snare (allowing a Tether but with less range than normal, and it can only Snare one target), a Blunt Strike, Swinging, and a unique aspect- the ability to apply "Leverage" to something- his mastery of it allows him to tip over or move things that should probably be impossible. A minor trick, but a unique one. Pretty much the exact sort of guy Scourge should be offing.

The funny thing with Hulk having such an expanded friendly lineup is that his whole deal originally was being a loner. Besides Rick Jones, everyone was either hunting him (General Ross) or he was too afraid to get close to, (Betty).

Yeah- nowadays he has such a large supporting cast that he staffed a whole *TV SHOW* with them! Though Peter David started that with his "Pantheon" run in the 1990s, and Greg Pak continued it with his "Warbound" stuff. Ultimately, it's like what John Byrne said with Namor- some characters just work better in a group, so you should build a supporting cast around them. It is a bit odd that a LONER works best in a group, but hey- some guys (Spider-Man, Wolverine) can pull that off.

-The original Man-Elephant was Haller, a wealthy business owner, wearing his new hydraulic-powered suit to capture She-Hulk- the man gives up the fight upon finding out that charges against Shulkie were false. Haller then goes travelling to India after Tony Stark kills his company, and gains a shard of Cyttorak, becoming Behemoth, who defends the locals from some rebels. He uses his powers to hunt down She-Hulk, but ends up fighting her Skrull pal Jazinda instead, capturing her. He then attacked She-Hulk properly, but was then beaten on by Thundra & She-Hulk, while Jazinda escaped. This latter story took place DECADES after the first one, essentially dragging a one-shot loser out of the woodwork.

-The second Man-Elephant is a generic criminal (well, a generic Funny Animal criminal) from an alternate universe who was using some machine to turn regular elephants into Elephant Men, but was captured and sent back to his own dimension.

-At first, Man-Elephant is just a guy in a suit, and holds his own with She-Hulk before backing down- with New Villain Stink, he's just a highly-powerful PL 9 character (one wonders why a businessman with NO FIGHTING EXPERIENCE is suddenly able to hold his own with a super-heroine- albeit a somewhat new one- just because he's in a strong Powersuit) with limited accuracy. Once upgraded in power, he's a Super-Heavyweight brawler with more actual proboscidian powers, requiring a GROUP of Super-Strong women to bring him down.
