Tachibana Racing Club/Tobei Tachibana

Post by OwOMotaros »

With Shocker complete, we'll finish off the original series of Kamen Rider with a coverage of the supporting cast, more specifically the....

Image

Tachibana Racing Club

The Tachibana Racing Club is the racing club Takeshi Hongo was apart of prior to his transformation into the Kamen Rider. Created by his mentor and father figure, Tobei Tachibana, the club served as a support structure to Riders 1 and 2, with its members keeping an eye out for Shocker's activities, and assisting the Riders where they could. Most of these characters aren't worth making a stat block for, so I will simply note them here:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mari, Yuri, Michi, Emi, and Mika - Borderline interchangeable female members of the club. Mari, Yuri, and Michi all joined the club together in episode 14, the same episode that Rider 2 first appeared. Mari and Michi, a fencer and aikido practitioner respectively, would be phased out before episode 40, with only Yuri, a black belt, remaining throughout the remainder of the show. Emi and Mika appeared in Episode 40, as Rider 1 reappeared to assist Rider 2 against the Snowman. The two were his assistants during his battles in Europe, and while Mika would disappear relatively quickly, Emi would persist a good bit longer.

Goro - The little brother of Yuri, and the group's first junior member, who would also disappear before the end of the series.

Kamen Rider Kid Corps - A sub-group within the Racing Club, the Kamen Rider Kid Corps were a group of young boys, riding atop bicycles and wearing Rider-branded hats and pendants, who looked up to the Double Riders and sought to assist them by doing good deeds across Japan and keeping an eye out for Shocker's schemes. Tachibana and Taki served as the group's president and captain, respectively, which means an FBI Agent willingly organized children into what was the equivalent of an intelligence cell. The Kid Corps would continue their mission after Taki left for America, assisting Kamen Rider V3 against Destron, but by the time of Kamen Rider X, the group had seemingly disbanded.

Personality - Tachibana is the father figure to most of the Showa Era Riders, seeing them as his own sons. He will do whatever it takes to assist and protect them.

Background: Tobei Tachibana, the first Rider mentor. Takeshi Hongo's racing mentor before his transformation, Tachibana would assist the young prodigy in his battle against Shocker, providing him with his motorcycle, the Cyclone. When Takeshi left for Europe, Tachibana, alongside Taki and the Tachibana Racing Club, would assist the new Kamen Rider, Hayato Ichimonji, against Shocker. While other allies would appear and fade over the years, Tachibana was steadfast in helping the Kamen Riders protect the world. At some point after the events of Skyrider, Tachibana would die, as confirmed during the events of Kamen Rider 1 (2016). Takeshi, indebted to his father figure, would protect Tachibana's granddaughter, Mayu, from Nova Shocker. In this effort, he would discover one last gift from the old man; a new motorcycle, the Neo Cyclone, which he would use to defeat the revived Jigoku Taishi alongside Kamen Rider Ghost.

Notes: Tobei Tachibana is probably my favorite supporting character of the Showa Era. He's quite good at his job, assisting the Riders in thinking through the plots of their foes, and providing the various Rider Machines of this era. He is also an incredibly good physical trainer, training the first few Riders in developing new techniques using their cybernetic powers. He was so good that Shocker sought his services (by sought, I mean they kidnapped him) to train up Ikadevil to defeat Rider 1. He also wasn't shoddy in melee combat (at least, for a civilian), being shown taking down 1 or 2 Shocker Combatmen on his own on a good day.

Sidetracked

Post by OwOMotaros »

Sorry, everyone, got sidetracked for a bit on building Destron. Its a really good time for Tokusatsu right now, with the Gokaiger 10 Years After Movie coming out soon and the announcement of the OOO 10 Years After Movie (a honor only reserved for Sentai up until now), and the two currently running series being pretty solid so far, I got a bit distracted from the research. Expect the Destron builds within the next week or so!

Personality - Doktor G is quite humble for a Destron General, often admitting his own failures and assuming responsibility. Still, as a member of Destron, he is someone you can easily call pure evil.

Background: Doktor G, Destron's Mechanical Army Leader. Summoned to Japan from Germany, Doktor G would make a big splash with his first scheme, managing to discover V3's vital weakness and using that to nearly kill him, without even assuming a kaijin form. Later schemes included; several terrorist acts, bombing oil refineries and shipping lanes, engaging in chemical warfare, using the blood of women to power an ultra-powerful Kaijin, biological warfare, creation of a "Mummification Formula", which dehydrated those who ingested it, and eventually reviving the 4 Generals of Shocker and Gel-Shocker, and several Shocker Kaijin in a plot to raze Japan to the ground. After the failure of that plot, and the subsequent deaths of the 4 Revived Generals, Doktor G committed to one last plan, which led to the destruction of Destron's Cyborg Factory by V3 and Interpol's Destron Hunters. After that last failure, Doktor G was given one last opportunity to take his revenge, summoning the spirits of evil ancient warriors to enhance him into...

Complications

Personality - Doktor G is quite humble for a Destron General, often admitting his own failures and assuming responsibility. Still, as a member of Destron, he is someone you can easily call pure evil.

Background (cont.): After gaining the powers of Kani-Laser, Doktor G set out to kill V3, vowing to end his life before his time ran out. Engaging in a prolonged battle on a rocky beach, Doktor G would eventually fall to V3's Spinning Return Kick. His death marked the end of Destron's first offensive, as the Great Leader of Destron called in his next General.

Abilities 80, Powers 51, Advantages 24, Skills 29, Defenses 14 = 198 PP

Notes: Doktor G made quite the impression when he first appeared, managing to beat, nearly to death, an albeit severely weakened V3, in his human form. He's the first of these Generals that's really proven themselves somewhat capable in combat outside of their monster form. In his kaijin form, Doktor G's got some vague mystic powers, darkening the environment around him, and then unleashing powerful energy blasts from the lamp-refractor thingy on his head. I quite like Doktor G, he was a pretty cunning general and rival for V3, and his whole vocal tic, causing him to declare 'Kamen Rider' as 'Kamen Raiiiiiiiiiiiider' was enjoyable. But, following his death, he's never really reflected on again, at least, not in a way I can mention for another, like, 20 seasons.

Interesting how all these guys got extra powers and forms! So that was a villain trope in Japan even back then. This look through history remains fascinating.

Background: Baron Kiba, the chief of the Tusk Tribe. A Destron General recruited from Africa, with vague "Doovoo" magical powers, Baron Kiba took over for Destron's operations in Japan after Doktor G's death. Bringing with him a special set of Tusk Tribe Kaijin, Baron Kiba set to work attempting to defeat Kamen Rider V3. His schemes include: taking over the village of a Rider Scout, and using them as a double agent to lure in V3 and his allies, planning to massacre the entirety of the Kamen Rider Scouts, kidnapped a doctor who had developed a "photochemical smog", which Destron planned to use to cause mass spontaneous combustion. This plot would be dangerous enough to cause Riders 1 and 2 to return to Japan, leading to them teaming up with V3 for the first time since their deaths. Baron Kiba, desperate to defeat all 3 Riders, revived Smilodon, the ancient master sorceress of the Tusk Tribe, who nearly defeated the three. After even she fell against the Kamen Riders, Baron Kiba used his vast Doovoo power to grant himself the form of.....

Personality - Baron Kiba is a very serious man, focused on how to best serve the interests of his clan and Destron.

Background (cont.): As Kyuketsu Mammoth, Baron Kiba began one last plot, kidnapping high-ranking members of Japan's government, and brainwashing them to serve Destron. After V3 foiled that scheme, he angrily commenced a life-or-death battle with him, ending with his trunk being torn off and him being killed by V3's Triple Revolving Kick. With his death, the Great Leader of Destron revealed to V3 that he had another general in the wings...

Notes: Baron Kiba is a pretty simple, uncomplicated build. Just a highly-skilled cultist type, with deep knowledge of "Doovoo", which he uses with the Artificer and Ritualist advantages. His skill was so great that he was able to revive Smilodon, a Summon strong enough to engage all Riders 1, 2, and V3 in combat at once. As Kyuketsu Mammoth, he gains great physical strength, and durability on the same level as the Riders, and the ability to generate Earthquakes seemingly through pure strength, slamming his large elephant leg into the ground. His bulk leaves him a little slow, but his pure strength still lets him settle into a PL 10 offensively. It's a bit of a shame Baron Kiba only lasted 5 episodes, the more mythical elements his arrival brought were a neat addition to V3.

Baron Kiba's also the only Destron General to be absent from the Playstation 1 Kamen Rider V3 game. I'm not sure why, given that all the others are.

Using his Winged Corps, a swarm of flying kaijin, he undertook several schemes, including; coercing important officials in the science and manufacturing sectors to bring them under Destron's control, using a Flying Squirrel kaijin, who had the power to turn people into dead flying squirrels, to keep quiet a plan involving reactivating a dead volcano, using a Poison Moth kaijin to keep their power-stealing operations quiet, and used a plant monster to kidnap and shrink people, conserving them for future cyberization, in a callback to an early Kamen Rider (1971) episode. Background (cont.): As Sibito Komori, Tsubasa uses his 'Himalayan Devil Virus' to transform civilians into vampires. When V3 interrupted this scheme, Tsubasa was actually able to defeat the young Rider with his "Centrifugal Spin" technique. Witnessing the defeat of V3, the child character of the week begins to succumb to the injuries they sustained in the conflict, leading to V3 undergoing more training underneath Tobei Tachibana, developing the "V3 Mach Kick", and managing to defeat the Archbishop. Upon his defeat, Tsubasa crawled into a casket that he just.....had sitting nearby, before exploding. The Great Leader, unconcerned with his death, simply moved on to his next general.

Notes: Well, Archbishop Tsubasa was a bit of a hard build. Not only did he only appear in 5 episodes (not counting his monster-only reappearance towards the end of the series), he was usually just, in the shadows back at base, doing nothing. I didn't have much to work with, just giving him good Expertises, and giving him that Teleportation ability he only showed when V3 nearly attacked him. As Sibito Komori, however, I was able to make a much more informed build, as he was constantly at it throughout the episode. He's a quick flier, and was actually able to defeat V3 in combat (though I don't know how to create the type of throwing power that was shown with the Centrifugal Spin). He's probably the worst of Destron's generals; just a quiet, boring cultist, who couldn't even keep all his monsters on theme.

Personality - General Yoroi was a scheming, vicious general, looking out for his own interests and then those of Destron's.

Rivalry (Riderman) - General Yoroi, fearing that Joji Yuki would someday take his place within Destron, framed him for treason and attempted to have him executed. This action would lead to Yuki becoming Riderman and lead to the eventual destruction of Destron.

Background: General Yoroi, Destron's Final General. Hailing from Mongolia, and leading his Armored Division, Yoroi took over for the quickly-dispatched Archbishop Tsubasa. Commanding his army of armored kaijin, he got to work immediately, with schemes such as; transforming one of V3's old racing rivals into a nearly-invulnerable Destron kaijin, used a snail kaijin to create mind-controlled Destron sleeper agents (mind-controlling snails, neat), framed Joji Yuki for treason against Destron, removing his right arm in an acid pit, and setting him on the path to becoming Riderman, used a fake Santa (a rhino kaijin in disguise), to kidnap a bunch of kids and train them as Destron members, as well as ransoming them to get Riderman to battle V3, used a Coelacanth kaijin, with the ability to assume the form of "Destron Riderman", to deceive V3 (didn't work, Showa Riders were only dumb when necessary), attempted to steal child blood, and a few other assorted schemes. His final undertaking was the development of the "Pluton Rocket", a powerful missile able to level Tokyo in one shot. This plot was foiled by the seeming sacrifice of Riderman, who flew the rocket away to a safe location before it could explode. While attempting to stop V3 and Riderman from disrupting the missile launch, Yoroi assumed the form of...

Complications

Personality - General Yoroi was a scheming, vicious general, looking out for his own interests and then those of Destron's.

Rivalry (Riderman) - General Yoroi, fearing that Joji Yuki would someday take his place within Destron, framed him for treason and attempted to have him executed. This action would lead to Yuki becoming Riderman and lead to the eventual destruction of Destron.

Background (cont.): As Zarigarna, Yoroi was able to engage V3 long enough to stop him from saving Riderman, before escaping to ready another plan. When he arrived back at base, the Great Leader ordered him to activate "Operation D", a full-scale assault on Tokyo, leveling buildings and storming Rider Scout HQ. With his allies kidnapped, V3 was drawn into a trap with 4 revived kaijin, before being caught in a pit trap filled with a metal powder that dissolves all it touches. With V3 trapped, and his allies set to be executed, he unleashed the power of the Double Typhoon yet again, escaping the pit and rushing to their rescue. Yoroi would then take on V3 in the final battle, being defeated by the V3 Full Revolving Kick. Yoroi actually managed to survive this finisher and escaped to the nearest Destron base, where he pleaded with the Great Leader to help him, before being killed for his failure.

Notes: General Yoroi is pretty capable, especially in his human state. Even in his human form, he managed to contend with Riderman in direct battle. He also had notably more powers outside of his cyborg form; a flaming astral projection, the same random, blink-and-you'll-miss-it teleportation as Archbishop Tsubasa. As Zarigarna, he raises to contend with the relatively rookie Kamen Rider V3 and was able to overwhelm Riderman in a one-on-one. He was even able to survive an end-of-series Rider Kick, most of which are notable for being STUPIDLY powerful (I mean, I've seen one of these things send a flame pillar into the atmosphere and kill a god.) Back on topic, General Yoroi is a solid warrior and leader, if a bit too conniving for his own good, with his jealously and paranoia leading to the creation of Riderman. I can see why the Great Leader picked him as the last general of Destron.

It's always a good day when this thread gets a new build. :)

The Great Leader of Destron

Post by OwOMotaros »

Now, lets wrap up the last section of the Destron builds with....

Image

Great Leader of Destron

Background: Ok, so, with the Great Leader of Destron, its possible that we never truly saw them in the series. Another klan-hooded figure, the Great Leader mostly just watched as his generals tried and failed to succeed against V3. With the appearance of Riderman, the Great Leader became a bit more involved. Manipulating his adopted son, the Great Leader used him to battle V3, and even had him take a nearly-fatal blow for him, before revealing how little he cared for the man. After Riderman's death aboard the Pluton Rocket, V3 redoubled his efforts to unmask and defeat the Great Leader. Upon General Yoroi's defeat and death by the Great Leader's hand, V3 unmasked them, revealing a skeleton with a monstrous skull for a head, which floated around the room, threatening attack. V3 destroyed the skeleton, striking it in its still-beating heart, before cracking the skull open to reveal a recording device. V3 had no time to complain about this, as the Destron Base was set to self-destruct. With that, the threat of Destron had been defeated, but the Great Leader was still out there, planning his next strategy to take Earth for himself...

Notes: There's no real stats for the Great Leader of Destron. It was simply an extension of the Great Leader's Shapeshifting ability, with him either teleporting away every time V3 attempted to unmask him, leaving groups of Destron Combatants to battle him, or not being there in the first place.

Complications

Personality- Destron Combatants are deathly-loyal, mostly-mindless soldiers, to the extent that some are supposedly clones created by the Great Leader to serve his whims.

Notes: Destron Combatants are pretty much the same as Shocker Combatants; capable fighters, easily able to kill civilians and decently-trained soldiers, but against someone with real skill, they aren't much of an issue. The only difference is their more mystical origin (disposable clones created by the Great Leader), and their honestly much cooler uniforms. Bone-white scorpions across the torso, with a skull mask, its a much cooler attempt than the luchador-based designs of the Shocker Combatants, but nowhere near as iconic.

Kamen Rider Scouts

Post by OwOMotaros »

Lastly, we'll cover V3's allies (again, no need for builds, pretty much just civilians who get kidnapped over and over again.)

Image

The Kamen Rider Scouts

The Kamen Rider Scouts are an expansion of the Kamen Rider Kids Corps from the original series. Following the destruction of Shocker, and later, the appearance of V3, Tobei Tachibana opened up a sports gear store, a front for the Rider Scouts HQ, where he coordinated a group of children to keep tabs on Destron's actions. These kids constantly got kidnapped and attacked by Destron's cyborgs, though they were always saved by V3.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tobei Tachibana - Legendary Showa Era Mentor, see here.

Junko Tama - V3's first ally, a young woman rescued from Destron by Shiro and the Double Riders before he gained his powers. Said rescue led to Destron killing Shiro's family before his eyes, and sent him into that downward spiral that led to him becoming V3. Feeling both indebted and guilty for being the cause of his family's death, Junko stuck with Shiro for the length of his battle with Destron, serving as the heart of the Kamen Rider Scouts. She doesn't do much, but I enjoy her character throughout the show.

Shigeru Tama - Junko's little brother, and the first of this generation of Rider Scouts. He stuck around through the whole series too, filling the little brother role of the main cast, and effectively leading the Rider Scouts in the field.

Crab guy is awesome- I love the evil crab knight look. There’s a crustacean Battle Beast with a very similar name, too.

Alright, with the Kamen Rider V3 builds complete, I'll be taking a semi-break. I'll be using the time to study the next set of builds, as well as going back and updating my previous builds. I've already gone back and updated the first few Riders (reading Jab's builds has really influenced my decisions on PL recently, which I think you'll notice.) It won't be too long of a break, Kamen Rider X is only 35 episodes, I'll be back soon.

Oh neat! Glad I could be of help! I had to check, and I see the original Riders were set up as PL 14 fighters but are now PL 12- you did say they were benefited by the Power Creep of later shows, though, and were likely less powerful in the actual shows where they first appeared. I also took the opportunity to re-read the bios for the Riders- was there a behind the scenes reason for having two Riders around? The cynic in me says "more merchandising" but I have no idea if they were big on merch back in the day, as these shows are pre-Star Wars.

Looking forwards to Kamen Rider X!
