Dude was capable of creating Robot copies of the Avengers and couldn't find a better job than tech support? And everyone was OK with one of the only Indian characters in Marvel playing into the Indian tech support stereotype?

The Redeemers

"Pachyderm Power!"?! HIPPOS AREN'T PACHYDERMS!

THE REDEEMERS
Created By:
Brian Reed & Chris Bachalo
First Appearance: Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man #1 (Aug. 2008)
Role: Joke Villains

-So the Redeemers are a group of deliberate joke villains, more or less- introduced in a Dark Reign tie-in where Mac Gargan has maimed a group of bad guys- they are then banded together by the Redeemer in order to punish then "redeem" Gargan, who is now acting as the Dark Avengers version of Spider-Man. Naturally, they lose, and most are killed. Oddly enough, The Hippo goes on to become a recurring background character, and another gets a strange new lease on life.

The Redeemer

THE REDEEMER (Shep Gunderson)
Created By:
Brian Reed & Chris Bachalo
First Appearance: Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man #1 (Aug. 2008)
Role: Joke Villain
Group Affiliations: The Redeemers

-The Redeemer is a lunatic who has his idea for "redeeming" villains rejected by New York mayor J. Jonah Jameson. He naturally then puts on a skull mask and forms a team of Joke Villains, all of whom have been maimed by Mac Gargan (then disguised as Spider-Man) and sends them against the "hero" so they can capture and redeem him. However, he easily defeats them all. The characters are so minor that only the Hippo had any staying power- Eleven (a woman with unknown powers) is devoured and Doctor Everything is beaten up. The Redeemer is arrested after being mutiliated and thrown into a police cruiser.

Given that Nick Spencer was writing and it's in his goofy Ant-Man comic, I will 100% believe that he intended that as a deliberate joke. Like "Oh GOD I'm this big of a genius and I'm stuck living the stereotype!".

General Wolfram

GENERAL WOLFRAM (Claude Cramer)
Created By:
Brian Reed & Chris Bachalo
First Appearance: Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man #1 (Aug. 2008)
Role: Joke Villain
Group Affiliations: The Redeemers

-General Wolfram is yet another Nazi Scientist, initially showing up as one of the Joke Villains in Dark Reign- he was beaten easily by Mac "Spider-Man" Gargan, who ate one of his arms and stole his money after he robbed a bank. Recruited into the Redeemers, he attacks Gargan, but is easily beaten again.

-Wolfram, shockingly, gets a MAJOR retcon- back during World War II, he was charged with creating super-soldiers. He took a serum combining magic, science & wolf DNA, but was defeated by Wolverine, the sole survivor of the "Devil's Brigade" unit. Wolfram is killed by a medal made of silver, but Nick Fury stays Logan's hand from further ensuring he's dead. It's explained that the world needs super-soldiers now that Captain America & Bucky are missing, and that Wolfram is to be put in charge of the "Weapon Plus" program. Yes, so THIS JOKE VILLAIN is now the origin story of Weapon X. Yeah. It's suggested in the Marvel Wiki page that the guy Venom beat up "may be" imitating the original.

-General Wolfram appears to have no powers in Dark Reign, but seemed to be werewolf-esque in the Wolverine story.

ELEVEN (Jenni Pate)
Created By:
Brian Reed & Chris Bachalo
First Appearance: Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man #1 (Aug. 2008)
Role: Joke Villain
Group Affiliations: The Redeemers

-Eleven is such a jobber her POWERS aren't listed in most places (she has "Sonic Screams" mentioned on ComicVine- strong enough to blast Gargan off of a wall he's clinging to)- she's just a white-skinned woman who joins the Redeemers to punish Mac Gargan. She is the only one killed in the final battle, devoured by Venom.

Doctor Everything

DOCTOR EVERYTHING (Jonathan York)
Created By:
Brian Reed & Chris Bachalo
First Appearance: Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man #1 (Aug. 2008)
Role: Joke Villain
Group Affiliations: The Redeemers

-Doctor Everything was an enigmatic villain whose arm had apparently been devoured by Mac Gargan when he was pretending to be Spider-Man. He joins the Redeemers to capture Gargan, but his teammates die and are maimed- though claiming to be "above humanity", Everything fails when Gargan just creates another toothy mouth on his buttocks when Everything seals his mouth shut. Dr. Everything is then arrested. He claims he can see the future and perform any feat with just a thought, but his apparently reality-warping powers are low-tier and he's otherwise defenseless. I hadn't noticed it during this bio-writing but he's apparently a riff on Doctor Manhattan. This is more obvious when you see the pictures, some of which reveal he's just a naked red-skinned guy.

Dementoid

DEMENTOID (Richard Earle Amtower IV)
Created By:
Brian Reed & Chris Bachalo
First Appearance: Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man #1 (Aug. 2008)
Role: Joke Villain
Group Affiliations: The Redeemers

-Dementoid is a green-skinned scientist-looking guy who could drive men insane with a touch. His arms were eaten by Mac Gargan, then pretending to be Spider-Man, driving him into the "Redeemers" gang of other maiming victims. They try to capture Gargan, whose mouth is sealed by Doctor Everything, but Gargan simply morphs his buttocks into his mouth and attempts to devour Dementoid from behind. The villain escapes, but is traumatized by the experience.

So…this was an actual story…that Marvel published…as an arc in Spider-Man.
Yup, definitely understand why the couple pitches I did way back when were waved off, given top notch material like this was available.

-The Hippo is a Joke Villain created for Dark Reign- The Sinister Spider-Man- he was apparently a male hippopotamus called "Mrs. Fluffy" who was hyper-evolved into a humanoid creature by the High Evolutionary and left alone. Desiring material possessions like a human would, The Hippo became a criminal, but ran afoul of Mac Gargan, then posing as Spider-Man, who bit his leg off. The Hippo was given a mechanical leg and then recruited by "The Redeemer" into a group therapy session where the goal was to capture and "redeem" Spider-Man. However, Gargan easily defeated the lot of them, devouring one alive. The Hippo survived, however, and became a recurring backgrounder owing to a distinctive (if ridiculous) appearance. In one issue, Spider-Man & Ronin couldn't fell him, so Luke Cage leaped off a building onto him for the KO. He was then seen in backgrounds in a few places, like a super-casino and in Super-Villains Anonymous in The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, offering a hug to Boomerang.

-He is recruited by the White Rabbit and joins the Menagerie to steal Faberge eggs, but this time is easily defeated by Spider-Man- later, he appears in Squirrel Girl to rob a campus bank, but is convinced by her and her sidekicks into joining a demolition company to pay the bills instead. He appeared for her (Skrull imposter's) funeral, but was later seen being trussed up by Spidey again after stealing a hot-quantity Christmas toy.

-The Hippo is largely a complete joke- Venom and Spider-Man both easily defeat him, the former maiming him. Too bad- hippos are notoriously dangerous creatures, but there's little chance of a villain this silly-looking being taken seriously.

It’s darkly ironic to me that my final set of original Marvel builds for 3e would involve these utter doofuses XD.

So the sole female character is the only one who gets killed. Yeah, that's not problematic at all.
Always ask before you use someone's Original Character.
Never ever use them without permission. Only Villains do that.

-Panda-Mania is a deliberately-silly Joke Villain recruited by the White Rabbit onto an animal-themed team that included Hippo and Skein (who refused to go back to her "Gypsy Moth" name). Despite appearing in a cheap-ass costume (just a hood with dark eyeshadow, for the most part), she had enough superhuman strength to lift a car directly over her head and block some incoming police cars by shoving a bunch of cars into the road. The Menagerie stole a fortune in Faberge eggs, but were easily defeated by Spider-Man, who pummelled the others and webbed up Panda-Mania. They appeared a bit later in an Annual, and Spidey was in such a hurry to retrieve a missing cellphone that he just one-punched the lot of them.

-Panda-Mania is such a joke she takes the lowest possible "Criminal Template" and adds PL 6 Powerhouse stuff to it. She's so weak that PL 11 Spider-Man doesn't even have to try to defeat her.
