X-Men had ONE important contribution. To me at least.

Meanstreak gave Lumion (then Morningstar, I believe) his boot design. And even then, I threw a couple buckles up front.

-Serpentina joined the revamped X-Men early on in the comic's run, but unfortunately she was the "Sacrificial Teammate" who got Thunderbirded in the first arc- she leapt at the villain Junkpile, and he smashed her face-first into a wall. Her body was later reanimated as a zombie, but fell inert when the villain was stopped- the X-Men thus had her cremated so this wouldn't happen again. She has those standard "how do you make this person a viable superhero?" elastic-based powers where she isn't even an elite fighter or anything.

-Packing quite possibly the most half-assed Ron Lim design in recorded history, Cerebra is the Team Telepath of X-Men 2099. Also a Mutant-Tracker, she enables Xi'an to fill the roster of his X-team. By the end of the 2099 line, the character meant to gather all mutants together ends up crippled in a hoverchair, and without the use of her super-powers.

-Meanstreak (which is a pretty good speedster name, I'll give them that) is a scientist and tactician who wears another of those insanely generic Ron Lim costumes (Mask that only covers his ears and the back of his head! Just two colors! No actual design!), and gets so little play that even his Wikipedia bio is more or less "he plays a background role". He continues on this way until the book ends.

-Meanstreak is basically Quicksilver, plus some social skills, minus quite a bit of effectiveness. He's a PL 8-9 Speedster build, essentially.

-Krystalin was a multiracial-looking member of the team, with at least some interesting powers- she could create crystalline objects, much like Kole of the Teen Titans. Like Meanstreak, she's kind of just... THERE, for the most part, only getting focused on an arc where she arrives to her native Oakland, which is ruled by people worshipping the Panther cult from the Black Panther series. Visually, she seems rather similar to Storm- like they were attempting to mimic parts of the X-Men that were popular.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 22--11 / Advantages: 6 / Powers: 30 / Defenses: 12 (111)

-Skullfire has one of those tragic Mutant Power Awakenings, killing his girlfriend and putting this former yuppie onto the streets. Generally bitter and withdrawn, he is shocked to find outcasts himself actually ENJOYING their lives- he joins the new X-Men after teammate Serpentina is killed on their first mission. He becomes more assertive and less shy with time, becoming the leader of the X-Men, and the lover of La Lunatica (after freeing her from the Theatre of Pain). He is killed and then resurrected by Graverobber, but unlike his other Zombies, regains his life. Tim is killed again by the Phalanx, but mutates to a "Final Form"- an energy being that does not require a physical body. He does not appear in any of the last 2099 books, leaving his final fate unknown.

-Skullfire is a pretty generic Blaster, with his "absorb ambient energy" stuff not really having much effect, statistically.

-True to form, my instant favorite on this team was the Colossus-like Metalhead, one of very few superheroes to have the Absorbing Man-like power of "Object Duplication". He's a huge, muscular musician who creates sounds by dancing around and letting stuff bounce off of his metallic frame, and he wisely keeps bands of metal wrapped around parts of his body to allow him easy access to power-switches. In the very first issue, he does so, boasting that "you can't hurt a man who's made of ADAMANTIUM", making him one of the toughest characters in comics.

-At some point, he is given a disease that renders him incapable of switching out of his metal form, and with a monstrous form. Depressed, he joins a freak show, and finds a new life amongst them, helping out against various threats. He later helps the X-Men try to create a new society in the Savage Land.

-Metalhead is your bog-standard Powerhouse build, albeit with some Absorbing Man-style caveats to his power- generally speaking, he was always a "generic strong guy", and only ever copied metals, but his Adamantium Form renders him way tougher than most guys of this type. He probably lost that band of metal pretty quickly, to prevent him from becoming literally invincible (you could get away with almost any level of Protection for a man who's literally moving Adamantium- even Ultron featured moving innards that could be targeted).

-Bloodhawk is as '90s as it gets for this team, though his lumpy appearance is more from the "Ron Lim Bag O' Alien Parts" than anything else. He was being experimented on when his powers manifested and freed him- he refuses the call to join the X-Men, preferring the solitary life. Despite this, he routinely ends up being stuck when the team, as he's kidnapped, they're brought to his desert home, etc. A running gag is him saving falling X-Men, thanks to him being the only one actually able to fly.

X-Nation

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

X-NATION 2099:
-A spin-off of X-Men 2099, this series began when Victor Von Doom confronted Cerebra of the X-Men with his prediction that a "Mutant Messiah" would be born into the next generation, and charged her and her team with finding that individual. She gathers together a team of potential recruits, and they engage in a series of shenanigans that largely involve bailing from their "Xavier Center" and running off on various missions. They encounter a revived Exodus, who wishes to annihilate humanity and have Mutants rule the Earth- Clarion sacrifices himself to stop the villain, as Earth's polar ice caps melt and rise waters across the globe. In the end, life is saved just as the encroaching Phalanx are defeated.

-The book had a very short run, with Tom Peyer & Humberto Ramos quitting the book within three issues and their prospective new characters never getting added.

-Clarion has powers similar to Dazzler, and sacrificed himself to save his friends from the revived Exodus. He's named for soul musician Isaac Hayes, who was at this point a ways away from gaining a ton more fame thanks to appearing in South Park as Chef.

-Twilight was an X-Nation member who was a possible "Mutant Messiah", but she was killed along with Metalsmith when a ship blew up fighting the Phalanx. She was good-natured and brave; always willing to help others. Her powers are annoyingly vague online, stated to involve a "Sphere" around her that warped reality, giving her a ton of various powers.

-Wulff is pretty much like every other "Wolf Guy" in comics. He was rendered more feral after a bout of torture, as his old "Wild Boys" gang captured him.

-Uproar is a forgettable Growing Guy whose available information is basically non-existant. Like most of his kind, he's powerful on offense, but weak on defense- those defensive penalties from Growth are a bitch.
