Motivation (Death Wish)- Deadshot often wishes simply to die. But he refuses to commit suicide- he simply doesn't care if he dies, so long as it's in a spectacular fashion.

Total: Abilities: 70 / Skills: 60--30 / Advantages: 32 / Powers: 19 / Defenses: 18 (165)

-Deadshot's hilarious. Totally the snarkiest, most deadpan bastard who ever lived, all the while gunning guys down with automatic rifles in his wrist-guards. There's a reason he's the only guy to live through all the variants of the Suicide Squad concept over the years. His run on Gail Simone's Secret Six was phenomenal, and John Ostrander made him his baby on Suicide Squad back in the day- he's come a long way since being a forgettable Batman villain (created by BOB KANE of all people) over sixty years ago. On JLU, he was still pretty funny, though only got a ton of play on "Task Force X", getting onto the Justice League Floating Satellite, and he helped Rick Flag & his squad steal The Annihilator.

-Deadshot debuted as a wannabe vigilante who was actually trying to make a play at being Gotham's crimeboss. After that, he becamea freelance assassin, switching from a top hat & tails (jesus, really?) to his modern-day snazzy jumpsuit. His past was eventually revealed- attempting to kill his abusive father, he missed and hit his brother Eddie. Over the dying body of his brother, Floyd Lawton swore to "never miss again".

-In Suicide Squad, Floyd was given a major death-wish- he wanted to die in spectacular fashion. As such, he would openly challenge foes he'd snuck up on, take on horrible risks, and more- he didn't want to commit suicide- he simply didn't care if he died. His lackadaisical, nonchalant way of meeting this is the source of a lot of dark humor in Ostrander's stuff. There's a great bit where he is instructed to stop Rick Flag from killing the senator who threatens to expose the Squad's operations... and shoots the senator dead himself. "Stop Flag from killing the Senator. Exact words." His terse, taciturn speaking style was great, and made him stand out on a team of intense weirdos.

-Once Suicide Squad ended, Floyd went into kind of a "Journeyman Villain" phase, popping up against Batman, Wonder Woman and numerous others- usually so they could try and stop his assassination games. He doesn't get much to do until 2005's Secret Six, which removes the "Death Wish", but keeps up the general attitude and snarkiness. Gail Simone was really Ostrander Version 2.0 here (and that's a compliment), though his "bad-ass rep" usually just extended to mowing down Mooks in this series.

-My Deadshot is sorta like the DCA official version, but he's a more reasonable level (PL 10 is enough to challenge a Leaguer, but he pretty much couldn't win once they caught up to him, and I wanted him closer to Green Arrow and other guys like that), packing his trademark Wrist-Gauntlet Automatics. Why "DCA" saw those as worthy of being Devices, but not Green Arrow's Trick Arrows, I have no idea. Though elite (and probably the best overall guy on the Squad in its various incarnations), Deadshot is strictly on the "Human Level"- regular guys can be a challenge, and REAL super-elites like The Flash & Green Lantern are way beyond him.

My favourite Deadshot moment was in one issue of Suicide Squad where Batman basically asked Deadshot how much he was being paid ("a million dollars"), and then offered him a million and one to not do it. And Lawton agreed.

Greed.

-Punch and Jewelee are a pair of Joke Villains from Steve Ditko's messed-up mind, and are seen as losers who act mostly on a whim. They're a pair of puppeteers & thieves who found some discarded alien weaponry and took on the name of the popular Punch & Judy puppet shows. They pretty much just tangled with Captain Atom & Nightshade for a while, until they were recruited for a few Suicide Squad missions. They were a liability, prone to just screwing around, but eventually retired to the suburbs when Jewelee became pregnant. Their appearances after that are VERY sporadic- just one every few years, where they either do a one-off crime, or appear to have fully gone back to their old way of life.

-Punch was finally killed during the One Year Later storyline, shot by a bunch of guards when an offshoot group of bad guys had done some unsanctioned activities not approved of by the Secret Society of Super-Villains, and the Society found out. Jewelee later did a few appearances without him, but both showed up in the Nu52.

-Both characters are pretty weak Joke Villains, and openly avoid physical combat- they just like Blasting away and controlling people.

-Clifford DeVoe was a failed lawyer who realized that most criminals were dumb, and thus he could make a lot of money by acting as the "brains" behind all of them. He became a recurring foe of the Golden Age Flash, using a variety of scientific devices- usually a "Thinking Cap" that gave him mental powers. He didn't appear much in modern times, but joined up with the Suicide Squad in order to gain a full pardon- he was seemingly killed by The Weasel in his first mission. However, he would turn up alive later, but was dying from a cancer that the Cap had given him. Jay "Flash" Garrick offered to save him using the Cap, but DeVoe refused, prefering to "die in peace".

-The Thinker wielded a "Thinking Cap" giving him some baseline mental abilities. In the early days, he was just a planner and schemer.

-Firestorm had his very own bully in Clifford Carmichael- perhaps an attempt at making the new hero a bit more like Peter Parker, who often suffered under the heel of Flash Thompson. However, Carmichael was more of an intellectual sort, prone to cruel pranks. However, one went much too far, and Cliff's own cousin had his neck broken when he grabbed a tampered-with football helmet and used it in a game. A guilt-ridden Cliff wound up institutionalized, and some scientists started screwing around with the original Thinker's "Thinking Cap", because of course they did. This made Cliff a "Cyberpunk Maniac" with powers. He was soon drafted into the Suicide Squad after trying to kill Amanda Waller & Oracle, then betrayed them to the Cabal.

-Later, he appeared as an enemy of Jason "Firestorm II" Rusch, but the new Firestorm melted the cybernetic enhancements in Cliff's brain, rendering him comatose. He reappeared in Ostrander's revived Suicide Squad title, acting as a non-powered "Base Control" type. However, he betrayed the team to Wade "The General" Eiling, and is presumably killed by King Faraday. He hasn't been seen in almost ten years.

Responsibility (Vlatavan Royalty)- Vertigo is the heir to the fictional Eastern European Country, which was first ruled by Soviets, then destroyed by the Spectre. He feels unworthy of leadership, however.

Total: Abilities: 54 / Skills: 24--12 / Advantages: 5 / Powers: 60 / Defenses: 15 (146)

-Count Vertigo's great as a minor-league villain; he's got a distinctive costume and one big trick, and is reliant mainly upon that (okay, so he's a good melee fighter, but he's nowhere near elite on that level). Such a power works best on a team (he was a long-time Suicide Squad member), though he can make a good threat for a non-powered Street Level-type character (like his main enemy, Green Arrow). Though with that goofy name and fake Eastern European country royal origin of his, it's kind of hard to take him seriously.

-Vertigo first appeared as an exiled royal from the country of Vlatava, which was taken over by the Soviets- he attempted to recapture his family's old jewelry, and ended up fighting Black Canary. His powers came from an electronic device that was implanted into his temple to cure him of his neurological disease. He would join the Suicide Squad, but kept getting abducted and forced to work for others (Vlatavan rebels, then Poison Ivy). Undergoing tremendous mental troubles, he wanted Deadshot to kill him- however, in the last issue of Suicide Squad, he changed his mind, choosing to live with his condition (and not ruin his chances of the afterlife). Eventually, The Spectre wiped out the entire country.

-After that, he stopped appearing often- he was a one-off goon in the Injustice Society in a JSA issue (he was handily beaten by newbie Dr. Mid-Nite, who used Vertigo's Ménière's Disease against him). He popped up as a regular in Amanda Waller's Checkmate series, then in a renewed Squad title.

-Vertigo's quite powerful, but is still a one-note villain, who is notably a pretty good fighter (+10 on both Attack & Defense, which is rare for my background villain builds), but lacks the power or toughness to back it up if that was his only deal. His Vertigo Effect is a devastating +10 rank Affliction that effects every single person who can see him (as well as buggering up any technological sensors- though note that they would be aware of his presence since he's not INVISIBLE to them), so unless you have Auditory Blindsense or something, you're pretty screwed. That being said, Daredevil would be this guy's worst nightmare, but thankfully, he's a Marvel hero, so even Dr. Mid-Nite (DD's closest DC version) is in trouble, since he can still see in the dark, but that would still screw him up. Vertigo also has one of those weird "I can fly for no apparent reason" abilities, unless it's a property of his boots, in which case I can modify that into a Device.

He actually continued on after a fashion when Mister Terrific used the Mental Cap to create a AI for the JSA. Naturally with DeVoe's mind as the template it eventually went rogue an joined the villians before becoming a bishop for Checkmate.

Yeah, there's a bunch of DC builds you never converted to 3rd edition. I'd personally like to see the Black Lantern template converted because I can't find any "Generic Black Lantern" bulds.

I thought I'd moved most of my DC builds over- who's all left now?

Converting is usually pretty easy- I could probably do a Black Lantern one in a minute.

-Vixen was to debut as DC's first black superheroine to star in her own series, but the 1978 DC Implosion resulted in the cancellation of numerous books, and so it never happened. She later became known as a "Team Player" sort, who'd show up in random books. Vixen is the descendent of Tantu, an African warrior who gained a magical totem from Anansi to use Animal Totems to protect the innocent. When her parents were killed by an evil bastard after the Totem, she moved to America and became a model, then returned to Africa as a superhero. She first became known as one of the newbie JLA members organized by Aquaman. This team is pretty famously not-well-thought-of, but nobody seemed to despise Vixen in particular (Vibe & Gypsy get most of the hate). She got stuck on the Suicide Squad after her animal powers caused her to go a bit nuts.

-She became one of those Journeyman Characters after JLA was cancelled, showing up here and there in random books- she was basically like those Avengers characters that get forgotten about for decades at a time, only popping in during a one-off story in someone else's book every once in a while. It wasn't until she got a popular turn on JLU (surprisingly, giving her a seductive voice and GIGANTIC BOOBS made her popular with fans) that DC as a whole seemed to recognize that she was alive, and so back on the JLA she went, this time getting a lot more focus. She had even MORE problems with her Animal Totems (funny, I had no idea about this, but the same stuff happened to my character Shifter in the first Crinoverse campaign), at one point gaining the ability to copy SUPERHUMAN powers instead of ANIMAL ones, and had her origin messed about with a bit.

-Vixen showed up in the mid-portion of JLU's first season, as as intrusive love interest for Green Lantern. She's basically an obstruction to the "predestined" GL/Hawkgirl relationship, as SHE ends up dating John while Hawkgirl is off on a self-finding mission. She was perfectly nice, if an obvious Bad Grrrl who was a bit more lusty and chesty than your usual heroine (not that Hawkgirl was Princess Peach or anything). The writers, intending to use her as someone just to stand in the way of GL/Hawkgirl before they inevitably got back together, fell in love with the character and decided to leave the end result of the GL-Hawkgirl-Vixen triangle up in the air (though the existence of Warhawk in the future kinda points out a specific result). Personally, I think it might have made a good cap-off to the series to have John & Hawkgirl end up back together, especially after she asked Batman to "Tell me about my son". It was kind of a chickenshit move by the writers to not give it an ending in the name of "not wanting to make John look bad" by dumping Mari (especially considering he ADMITTED HE LOVED SHAYERA).

-Variable, the basis for "Animal Mimicry", is one of the more expensive powers in the game, and really deserves to be. As a result, it's almost a weakness on some characters (unless a player gets REALLY creative), as Vixen here spends 56 points for what gives her a maximum of 40 pp to play with, which means her other stats will inevitably suffer. But even then, she's a very capable heroine, with TONS of options in combat (falling on someone with an elephant's weight, the Rhino's charge, Cat-like claws & agility, Wall-Crawling, Grappling power like a Snake, fixing a broken arm in seconds like a Gecko, etc.), and fully PL 10 when she wants to be. It's not easy to fight somebody who can be an Accuracy-Focused PL 10 one minute, and a Damage-Focused one the next. Some creative use of her powers by assorted writers has let her use Bioluminescence to fire a LASER BEAM from her head, and she can use basically any Sensory power you can think of. This is a power-set that really benefits someone with a Biology degree- she can mimic Snake Venom, catch bullets using a Mantis Shrimp's Sonic-Boom-Creating Claw Grip (not really how that works in the animal kingdom- it's more of a pressurized air-blast created by the rapid-fire closing of a claw).
