Complications:
Motivation (Greed)- The Black Fox is always looking for that "One Last Score" that will allow him to retire in peace.
Disabled (Old)- Age has caught up with the Fox, taking a lot of his stamina. He is in way over his head with any superhuman adversary, and knows it.

Total: Abilities: 36 / Skills: 36--18 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 7 (90)

-The Black Fox is an elderly cat burglar and thief, specializing it stealth and begging his way out of trouble- on several occasions he even bluffs SPIDER-MAN into letting him go, based off of some B.S. stories about a sick wife & child or something. It helps that he really is a skinny, pathetic-looking old man. Petey later surmises (via a concussion-induced hallucination brought on by a SAVAGE ass-kicking from Doctor Doom) that he sees a bit of his Uncle Ben in the Fox, and decides to finally arrest him once and for all. After managing to save his life when he steals a diamond that belonged to DOCTOR DOOM'S MOTHER. I only saw him in an Erik Larsen-drawn issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, which was really more of a showcase of Peter's resilience, and Doom's INCREDIBLE power against someone not on the FF's level. It was the most one-sided fight EVER, as Pete couldn't lay a hand on Doom, and Doom was basically hammering him through walls at-will. He spent fifteen years on the shelf, returning to face Eric "Ant-Man" O'Grady, but the two soon began teaming up.

-The Black Fox is no major warrior, but he's good enough at avoiding Mooks to wade through a group of them (especially with his Concealment or Knock-Out Gas helping him). His specialty is naturally stealing stuff, and has high-end Thief & Sleight of Hand Skills.
Is this guy Felicia Hardy's dad? He was said to be a cat burglar too.

Complications:
Motivation (Greed)
Enemy (Spider-Man, The Kingpin)
Relationship (Blackwing)- Anfredi's son Joseph is the low-end Jobber Villain Blackwing.
Responsibility (The Maggia)- The Maggia is basically the Mafia in the Marvel U, except they use super-villains and mad science. You don't talk to cops, you need a "sit down" before killing a "made" guy, and you always side with the family.
Weakness (Organs)- Despite being a large cyborg, Silverman has human organs inside, and they are those of a frail, 80-year-old man. If he uses Extra Effort or takes too much damage, he often takes even worse results, becoming disabled or dying quickly.

Total: Abilities: 74 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 14 / Powers: 13 / Defenses: 8 (131)

-Silvermane is a necessity you have to create- a big Crime Boss. Every series needs one sometimes, and The Kingpin is out of commission at some points. So in comes Silvermane, as a member of "The Maggia" (the Mafia with a different name, to avoid the very-real chance of reprisals- its other leaders include Count Nefaria, Madame Masque and Don Fortunato). His schtick right away was a Vulture-like "I need to be less old", and he was always looking for fountains of youth, scientific rejuvenation, etc., far removed from the grittier "Crime Boss" Archetypes seen nowadays- it IS a Spider-Man book, after all- common theft and drugs are just too "real world" for someone on Spidey's level.

-In an early story, Silvermane drank a potion he'd forced Dr. Curt Connors to concoct from some ancient clay tablet, and de-aged into disappearing. He later reappeared, looking to be in his mid-forties. Falling from a great height, his injuries cause the potion's effects to wear off- when Dagger (of Cloak & Dagger fame) nearly-kills him (he's a major figure in their series- being a drug lord and all), he transforms himself into a Cyborg. A really, really '80s-looking Cyborg. Dagger tries to make amends be giving him some of his life-force back, but he's badly-damaged by Jason "Jack O'Lantern" Macendale, and shows up in a few other books (Punisher's, for example) as a Journeyman Villain. He even got a small arc in the 1990s Spider-Man cartoon, generally just as a rival to The Kingpin (the series' over-arching villain), and doing the whole "Connors/Tablet/De-Aging" thing, almost exactly like in the books.

-Silvermane kind of suffers from the problem that afflicts a lot of Marvel Crimebosses- by not being The Kingpin, he ends up with "Mongul Syndrome", as he's completley outshone by a better villain with the same concept, and is thus more easily-used in other stories as a minor menace that the creators can beat up without the Spider or DD-Editors getting pissed at them. His silly-looking cybernetic look isn't helping matters, either. He disappeared for a large chunk of the 1990s before being killed by a rival Maggia goon named Carmine, and the third Mysterio- he wouldn't reappear until The Superior Foes of Spider-Man, where he's used as a Plot Maguffin for the villains to find- it's meant to be a ruse created by Boomerang (from the urban legend that the head of Silvermane survives, and its owner will become the ruler of the Maggia), but it turns out that the legend is ACTUALLY TRUE, and The Shocker discovers the head in a junkyard by pure dumb luck. The angry, bossy Silvermane ends up pushing the wimpy Shocker around, which actually works out to ol' Herman's benefit when he's declared THE NEW DON in front of the assembled goons of the Maggia, after knocking The Punisher away with The Shockermobile.

-Silvermane is a combo of Mob Don stuff with Cyborg stuff, but he's still only a PL 8 combatant, never really being up their with Spider-Man. He's strong, but rather inaccurate, and doesn't have a lot of tricks to go with his frame. He's just big and strong. In every other way, he's a lesser Kingpin, never attaining Fisk's level of reputation or control over New York. Regular ol' Silvermane is VASTLY weaker, with a dying frame and stats of Strength -1, Stamina -1, Agility -2 and Fighting 3.

Enemy (Rival Crime Bosses)- As an egomaniac and power-obsessed loon, Hammerhead frequently butts heads (excuse the pun) with the biggest crime bosses in New York, from The Kingpin to Doctor Octopus.
Secret (Actually Russian)- Hammerhead's family is actually from Russia- he pretends to be Italian so he can be "made" by The Maggia.
Relationship (Silvermane)- Silvermane has pointed out that Hammerhead has an uncomfortable fixation on him. "I once saw him with one of my socks..."

Total: Abilities: 60 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 13 (128)

-I always thought Hammerhead was a pretty weak villain. I mean, the early '70s were an interesting time for Spidey and all, but a guy straight out of Dick Tracy's Rogues Gallery of deformed freaks who talk like 1920s gangsters just never seems to fit into this world. Never mind the fact that they already had a much BETTER "Crimeboss" archetype with The Kingpin. Plus... the whole "Flat Head Used as a Weapon" thing is a pretty stupid, goofy schtick. And yeah, he's pretty clearly a take-off of the Dick Tracy villain Flat-Top, so he's not even really ORIGINAL.

-Nonetheless, Hammerhead (who gained his powers after an illegal backalley Doctor fixed up the lethally-injured gangster, who groggily-spotted an Al Capone film poster, and formed an entire persona off of Mobster Movies Stereotypes) was seemingly EVERYWHERE back in the day, feuding with various crimelords, trying to kill Doctor Octopus (really- they had Ock try to take over the organized crime of New York, leading to some massive over-exposure for both guys), and being an alarming pain to Spidey considering his only power was the ability to have a hard head. I don't know HOW that was meant to be a huge threat, but it was- Spidey's punches invariably landed dead-on with Hammerhead's invincible skull, and that head hit Spider-Man way more often than it should have, considering the latter's speed.

-He was once rendered "out of phase" with our dimension, haunting Dr. Octopus for a while, and feuded with The Kingpin, who forced him out of New York. He reappeared later on allied with Tombstone & The Chameleon, and then kind of "settled" into the role of being Just One Of Those Background Guys, always floating around in Mobster Meetings, Supervillain Armies (The Sinister Twelve, for example), and more- like other guys who often end up in that role, he has a distinctive, easy-to-recognize look, and that makes him ideal for those situations. He tried to form a Supervillain Army when Wilson Fisk wasn't around, but Fisk soon had him shot- he was placed within an Adamantium Skeleton by Mister Negative.

-Hammerhead is a PL 9 thanks to the relatively-high damage quotient of his Skull (+8 damage normally), and the fact that he's managed to give Spider-Man himself a bit of a challenge over the years. He's still just a normal man aside from it, but he's still very tough, very wily, and knows his job (his Expertise score is way up there). The Head functions as part-Strike and part-Shield, taking up four points from each category simultaneously (since he could generally get his head in the way of an incoming punch, and then deliver his own headbutt. He also gains a "Feature" to denote the fact that his skull is invincible- it covers those times a Critical Hit gets his forehead, or an unsuspecting guy goes for a head-shot. If you use something optional like a "Body Part Hit List", he could also be immune there. Kind of a general thing.

-They recently had him undergo some upgrades with Adamantium Skeletal stuff, which boosts his Strength to an unknown level, probably making him PL 10 offensively.

Total: Abilities: 54 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 23 / Powers: 26 / Defenses: 13 (138)

-Hammerhead recently joined the ranks of the "Upgraded Former Jobbers", getting his ENTIRE SKELETON replaced with Adamantium... wait, really? ANOTHER guy with those powers? This isn't the '90s anymore, fellas. Now, I'm all for taking old lame villains and Catmanning them into something cool, but this just makes him a bit of a Cyber/Sabretooth/Bullseye knock-off, despite the added power. In any case, he loses some of his Agility & Fighting because he's now gonna be much heavier and slower, but he counter-acts that by becoming an PL 9.5 powerhouse, slightly more damaging than Spider-Man himself, and able to handle him in combat. For now, he's PL 10, but we'll see what the future holds. I got ten bucks on the next writer either ignoring his boost, or just having him get housed anyways.

-The Puma is a slight modification of the generic and over-done "Magical Native American" trope, as despite having a huge focus on his tribe, magic-base powers and a link to the animal world, he's also a wealthy businesman (this is during the era where a lot of tribes got rich having gambling on their casino lands). He got all up in Spidey's business during the '80s, where Puma tried to kill him (part of a mercenary contract from The Rose- he stopped once he saw Spidey saving a child in danger and proved his honor). He would appear frequently during the run, as DeFalco wanted to push his new characters (Silver Sable's another of his, and got a big early push)- Puma was generally equal to Spidey in a fight, and even uncovered his secret identity via his enhanced senses! Don't blame Tom a bit, though- Spider-Man's Friends & Foes took a SERIOUS hit in new characters after a point in the late 1960s, so if you can find a way to give him some exciting new characters that can stick around for a while, then you freaking do it.

-Fireheart had some stuff where he helped out a young mutant from his tribe (who later became Portal), and he even bought half of The Daily Bugle, starting a PRO-Spider-Man campaign (part of his debt of honor to Pete), and making Robbie Robertson his Publisher! Unfortunately, like most new characters created after the '60s, the new batch of characters eventually fell into the hands of the NEXT writers, who pretty much only felt like using the classics THEY'D known as kids, and so people like The Puma kind of disappeared from the books. And so he sold his shares back to J. Jonah Jameson on the cheap, and went off to do nothing for years. He had his knowledge of Spidey's Secret ID erased, and went crazy as the Puma personality consumed him.

-He only shows up nowadays in minor roles like in MODOK's 11 and Marvel Divas (an insipid attempt to get women readers by transplanting the personalities of the Sex & The City girls onto established super-heroines). I think I was pretty impressed by him as a kid, though the only thing he did during the time I was a comics fan back then was show up in a Marvel Card (Series II) with impressive stats.

-The Puma's a standard "Animal Guy" with some slight modifications, particularly in how smart & skilled he is- being wealthy enough to buy the Bugle, among other things. This makes him quite expensive, in addition to him being powerful enough to challenge Spider-Man, since his stats and abilities are high across the board. He's PL 10 with his Claws and at Parrying, and can modify plenty of his caps.

Oh, hey, just remembered a little piece of Jab's Builds history Trivia!

Last time Jab posted mustached old-man thief Black Fox, it was after the build of some forgotten villainess, and he probably edited the same template with her info or something when stating out Black Fox, leading to a quickly corrected error. Unfortunately, I noticed it before Jab made the correction.

The error? Black Fox's "Role" included in the description the term Seductress :x

And now you too can have in your mind the image of that old-guy-with-a-curvy-white-mustache as a Seductress. You can thank me later

Actually he was her dad in the 1990s animated series. She became a thief with Kingpin granted powers to become the Black Cat in order to find her father who she thought was framed for a crime he didn't commit.

-The Spider-Kid was a short-lived Spidey concept: The Unwanted Sidekick. Ollie Osnick was short and fat, but a genius inventor child prodigy, and so he tried to be like his heroes, Spider-Man & Dr. Octopus, by building a suit of super-powered arms. Despite this, he was a crappy super-hero, and often had to get rescued. He reappeared YEARS later, as a full-grown, athletic man, using a souped-up set of arms to fight off a group of Thunderbolts. Now, while I'm a big fan of taking poor or under-used characters and making them bad-asses (otherwise known as "Catmanning"), the fact that they had him and a couple other jobbers fight off and injure fricking VENOM along with other elite villains just feels wrong to me. It devalues a character already on tricky ground (being a new version of the badly-damaged Venom I), for a character who's really not that valuable in the long run. Mac Gargan actually had to sneak up on the kid to take advantage of him, eating his arm. He hasn't been seen since this era.

-The new Steel Spider is quite powerful for a "new" character, being a PL 9 (135) pushed to the maximum, using Pepper Spray, Multiattack and a few other Octopus-like tricks alongside some general talents. He's limited in a few ways, but we'll see how tough he is once his "New Character" push ends.... and since we haven't seen him since he lost his arm, it probably already is.

I really really liked Spider-Kid, especially when he formed the Oy-Team with Frog-Man and... who was the one other guy?

Oh yeah! The Toad's brief face turn!

Also found while looking for the Oy Team:

And yes, I know they were officially called the Misfits...

But Spidey's name for them was soooo much better.

I just realized something... Peter married a chick with almost the same first name as his mom. No wonder he never shortens it to just the first bit.

-It's kind of odd to think of now, but back in 1968, it had never been explained just WHY Peter Parker was an orphan living with his Aunt & Uncle. Nowadays, people tend to either have a metric ton of well-explained backstory, or secret children popping up all over the place; but back in the day people were so accustomed to the "Orphaned Hero" concept that nobody thought much of it, even five years after the hero (Marvel's TOP SOLO CHARACTER, too) had been introduced. The backstory ended up getting REALLY weird, which is one of those odd comic book things where no character is EVER "completely normal"- sure enough, Peter's parents were C.I.A. spies, and were killed on a mission against the third Red Skull (the Communist one) not too many years after Pete was born. Peter, as Spider-Man, is able to prove that his parents were not actually traitors, as was feared- they were deep under cover and were found out. This was kind of over and done with, as May & Ben were MUCH more important to Peter's life, after all.

-HOWEVER, there was a time period in the 1990s where Marvel was trying all sorts of weird stuff, and sure enough, one day Richard & Mary Parker showed up on May's doorstep ALIVE. Explaining that they'd been in captivity since their plane went down, the two ended up back in Peter's life. However, thanks to a combination of bad writing and odd characterization, they were depicted as kind of annoying (during Maximum Carnage, Richard goes on and on about how awful people are, while Mary only kind of whimpers), and a lot of fans were turned off. Never mind when they were revealed to be ROBOT DUPLICATES this entire time- created by Harry Osborn & The Chameleon to mess with Pete's mind. This was REALLY DUMB, and felt like it was way too weird for one of the more "normal" heroes out there- I mean, what is his AUNT supposed to think about these robo-relatives of hers? Pete goes through a nervous breakdown against the now-deceased Harry when the duplicates are killed (Mary refuses to kill her "own son", and sacrifices herself for him instead), but eventually recovers.

-The whole "Peter Parker has spies for parents" thing is always a bit weird- like they were pushing too hard for him to have this big, cool backstory that goes against his "Ordinary Guy" thing. The fact that this was Stan Lee writing it makes it even weirder. Though I suppose the nature of modern comics means that somebody would do something even WEIRDER if an option was left open for it, so maybe it's for the best.

-The Parkers are fairly-skilled Spies, but aren't up to Black Widow's standards or anything. I mean, they were Killed In Action! By a JOBBER Red Skull, no less. Mary is less-skilled overall than Richard, but knows more Languages and is a better bluffer, which is something (and probably more handy in their line of work, considering how vulnerable both are to harm).

She ended up with bigger things. Especially when the Dodsens or Hughes were doing the art.

-Araña is another failed gimmick, a new "Teen Heroine" character based around Spidey's powers, but really, this concept went nowhere. The fact that she's the FOURTH woman in Marvel Comics to gain Spidey's powers probably doesn't help. She's also an attempt to grab Latino readers (touting her as Marvel's first Latino hero, they obviously didn't look very deep into their own history), but since her book barely lasted a year, we saw how that ended up.

-She was given her powers in a weird way- mortally-wounded in a battle between The Spider Society and The Sisterhood of the Wasp, she is saved by a magic ritual and made a member of the Spider Society. She ends up splitting with them, but joins the Young Allies, Marvel's most-forgotten Teen Team in HISTORY (seriously, every other book around it has at LEAST a Doom Patrol fandom, if not a sizeable fandom. This? NUTHIN'), changed her name to Spider-Girl, and was then included in the arc that saw many of the kids kidnapped by Arcade (though not in Avengers Arena, which had the same thing but was longer). She was lucky enough to survive this, and will now be on one of the post-Secret Wars books- a collection of Alternate Universe Spider-People called Web Warriors. Given that she's a Twofer- a teenage girl AND a visible minority- two groups that Marvel's actively courting, I imagine Marvel is keen on her doing SOMETHING, even though she's been a bit of a nothing so far.

-Araña has the same powers as Spider-Woman III, minus about a dozen little tricks, AND the Spider-Sense. That whole spiel, plus making her Snare based around a Device instead of innate powers, is what allows her to be the cheapest by FAR of the Spider-characters. She's just an athletic, accurate little PL 8 with a bunch of options in combat, and a weak Snare.
