... Seriously, at one point did they take the "Ostentatious Kirby Design" and turn Hela into the most scorching hot villainess in the Marvel Universe?

Relationship (Loki)- Hela and her father aren't close, but mainly try to avoid each other in their schemes, out of necessity.
Normal Identity (Decaying Corpse)- If Hela is separated from her Cloak, she will instantly take on her natural form- that of a half-youthful woman, half-decaying corpse. In this form, she is so weak that she can barely move, and cannot use any of her powers. This is like the biggest Removable Flaw EVER, but merely touching the thing restores her completely. You'd have to be pretty strong to tear it off, though- a grappling Thor could do it.
Enemy (Thor)- Thor is easily Hela's most implacable foe, in defense of Asgard.
Power Loss (Hand of Death)- Hela requires flesh contact to use her Hand of Death- Thor avoided it by masking his face with a cape. Cloth still tears, however.

Total: Abilities: 118 / Skills: 64--32 / Advantages: 27 / Powers: 132 / Defenses: 20 (329)

Hela in Mythology: The daughter of Loki, she rules Hela, the realm of the dishonored dead (and anyone who didn't die in glorious battle) in Niflheim. Half-blue (or black) and half-white, she was dour and evil, and ruled over great mansions in her dark domain, with armies of servants, and the hel-hound Garmr at her service.

Hela in the Early Days:
-The evil daughter of Loki and a Giantess, Hela is the Norse God of Death- in the mythology, she was half-beautiful and half-corpse, but Marvel turned her into an elaborate Kirby design of "Hot Adult Woman With Swooping Headdress" (with the caveat that her Magic Cloak is hiding her true form). She schemes against Thor almost as much as Loki does, and is generally behind anything on Asgard that isn't directly Loki's fault. She and her Loki have an adversarial relationship at times (her actual father is the Loki from a PREVIOUS cycle that ended during a Ragnarok), but generally try to avoid each other in their schemes. She often tries to kill multiple people, or force her way into control of even MORE souls by any other means (she once resurrected Odin just so that the Greek Pluto wouldn't get her instead).

-Hela once caused Thor to die, and was killed by Odin in turn, but Thor returned to life and beseeched his father to return the natural order, causing her return as well. She killed Thor AGAIN, but brought him back when his beloved Sif offered to die in his place. Another time, she returned Odin to life after he'd been slain by Mangog, just so that the Olympian Pluto couldn't claim his soul. She and all of Marvel's other Death Gods formed a giant Super-Hell at one point, but they were all consumed by the Demogorge, and later freed.

Hela Later On:
-In the "Walt Simonson" era, Hela created a cruel scheme when she cursed Thor's bones to become as brittle as possible, while also giving him eternal life- this caused him to suffere countless crippling injuries, before turning him into mush when he fought Jormungand. The curse was only lifted when Thor possessed the Destroyer Armor, and threatened Hela and her domain with the Godlike equivalent of "Nice place you got here- shame if anything HAPPENED to it..."- she quickly agreed to return him to full splendor. After a couple more stories, we reached the modern day, where Hela regenerated from Ragnarok into a Las Vegas-dwelling schemer. She becomes a much more important recurring character, and her schemes are a bit more minor (she was the villainess in Avengers Prime, which reunited Cap, Thor & Iron Man post-Civil War), as writers kind of liked using her, it seems. Hopefully a new push is coming, because I always thought Marvel & DC could use more Top-Tier Female Villains... though most of Marvel's (Umar, Hela, Morgan Le Fay) all have the same general look, theme and character, if you think about it.

-I would be remiss if I didn't mention her newfound EXTREME hawtness-- this girl was in a fairly complex green skinsuit that didn't make her look any hotter than any other woman in Marvel, but all of a sudden writers went "Hey- let's make an inappropriately hot version of DEATH" and pushed her boobs up, plunged her neckline down, and made her look like some kind of green, demonic Hell-Queen Of Hot. I mean, making hot girls is one thing, but making one SO HOT, and then giving her the Touch of Death so you can't do nuthin'? Thats just MEAN.

-This actually continues onto the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where Cate Blanchett, a woman I'm otherwise not overly enamored with physically (GREAT actress, though), combines with a fetish I don't really have (goth chicks) to turn into some insane Death Goddess Of Eternal Sexiness, to a completely awe-inspiring degree. I mean, that's a "Woah" moment in that trailer if I've ever seen one.

Hela's Stats:
-Hela is mighty-powerful, enough to fight even Thor on an even keel for a good long while. She's only a notch less powerful than Pluto (Olympians are a fair bit more powerful than Asgardians, on average), and casts Magical Spells at a level beyond even Dr. Strange. Her Normal Identity thing is rather annoying, since it's WAY worse than any Removable Flaw you could imagine (reducing all stats to nil and making all her Powers under a Device-ish thing), but has to kinda be statted up as a Complication since it's rare and can be averted just by touching her Cloak again. Otherwise you'd be in for one HELL of a discount on all her powers & abilities.

And seriously... *woog*...

Something you might want to mention as relevant is her motivation for her actions during the Simonson era, revealed in the last issue of the run -- where she also gets a grace note by freeing Skurge to go to Valhalla -- is that she wants Thor to reign in Nifflheim with her, but has finally come to the realization that "a death goddess can only be scorched by the fires of life". It's hard not to feel a bit sorry for her at that point.

You just become hers, that's all. And if you weren't ready for a commitment you shouldn't be getting fresh with her anyway.

Garmr in Mythology: Garmr is a a Cerberus-like guardian of Hel. One story features him and Tyr killing each other during Ragnarok... Wikipedia doesn't have much on him.

-Garm is the high-powered defender of Hela's realm, but he nonetheless ends up as a bit of a butt-monkey, being curbstomped by Thor every time someone on his side needs to get in to, or out of, Hela's domain.

Enemy (Asgard)

Total: Abilities: 82 / Skills: 40--20 / Advantages: 10 / Powers: 69 / Defenses: 12 (193)

-One-off Thor foes, this trio appeared in a single story arc in 1967, and then spent thirty-one years on the shelf before 1999 brought them back! The Enchanters Three are brothers from Ringsfjord, with magical powers amplified by Living Talismans in their possession. They follow Balder & Sif to Asgard with intentions to conquer it, but Thor beats two of them, while Odin slays Forsung in battle- the other two are exiled to a limbo-like dimension.

-Years later, Thor finds that Mjolnir is working funny (veering off-course; not returning), and a fourth Enchanter appears from the hammer- Enrakt. The last of the brothers (who was in training during the first battle), his brothers are freed while he fights Thor to a standstill. The battle moves to Asgard, where Odin defeats Brona and crushes his Living Amulet, the Scarlet Witch trapping Magnir in solid rock, and Thor nearly killing Enrakt. The beaten villain is then revealed to be the corpse of "Ceranda", a woman Thor met off-world and once loved- Enrakt had been using her body and Mjolnir to hold his spirit. Odin eventually banished all three Enchanters.

-The Enchanters are vaguely-powerful, essentially having an "Any Power Ever" effect, like creating Elemental Storms thanks to their Living Talismans, which are actual living beings that speak and can transform into humanoid creatures that are around Class 10.

The Enchanters:
MAGNIR- PL 10 (194): Equipment (Sword +1) [1]
-Magnir is the "baseline" brother, and the least powerful.

BRONA- PL 10 (197): ST +1, STA +1 [4]
-Brona is a little more powerful than Magnir.

FORSUNG- PL 15 (235): ST +7, STA +7, FIGHTING +4, Impervious Toughness +6, Blasts +8 [42]
-Forsung is so mighty that he was able to brawl with ODIN for a significant length of time, and even pummeled the High Evolutionary in Avengers Prime, which saw him as one of Hela's legions.

ENRAKT- PL 12 (217): ST +4, STA +4, FIGHTING +4, Blasts +4 [24]
-Enrakt is less powerful than Forsung, but still incredibly-strong.

Relationship (Shamari)- Billy walked out on his girlfriend when his career was ruined, but she sought him out despite his monstrous visage, in order to help him.
Prejudice (Obvious Superhuman)- Eight feet tall and covered with fur, Bison cannot pass for an ordinary human being.

Total: Abilities: 60 / Skills: 24--12 / Advantages: 2 / Powers: 20 / Defenses: 6 (100)

-Bison is a Thunderstrike character, but oddly seems to have only fought Luke Cage and some assorted villains (The Mongoose & Quicksand), having done a heroic turn of sorts after making a deal with the Egyptian God Seth to regain the full use of his broken leg (Seth of course made him a super-powered villain). He got two additional appearances after Tom DeFalco's beloved Thunderstrike series (which he gladly points out wasn't as low-selling as Marvel claimed)- once with the Thunderbolts-era Masters of Evil, and once again in the modern Guardians of the Galaxy, helping a group of Jobber Villains (including Gorilla-Man- a man with a human head on a gorilla's body) break out of the Negative Zone prison while Blastaar's legions were over-running it.

-Bison is basically a Luke Cage-level Powerhouse with Power-Lifting, since I don't see him breaking out of the PL 8 zone (Powerhouses tend to have a higher Power Level than other Jobbers, since they're still relatively dangerous), but he's fairly inaccurate (he's had all of five fights). He can Thunderclap, nail guys with his Horn Charge, or brawl, but he's fairly limited otherwise.

Thanks for including the Enchanters! They are long-forgotten characters to Marvel and unknown to most Marvel fans. None of my friends knew of them.

I remember their first appearance in Thor where they seemed uber-powerful, like Odin level or beyond even. Upon returning decades later, they seemed like they lost much of their former might being beaten so easily. Of course, Marvel does not give credence to their villians' power these days...

-Wait... this guy's in the MEDIA? This whole time I thought he was literally an alternate or future Thor or something. He's part of a documentary crew brought to Asgard by Loki, who falls in love with the Lady Sif. The manipulative God of Mischief of course starts his act, giving Red the Iron Gauntlets and Belt of Strength in order to compete with Thor for Sif's affections. This all turns out to be part of Odin's master plan to create a "surrogate Thor" to complete the prophecy of Thor dying fighting Jormungand- the World Serpent. Red goes insane with power and nearly kills Thor, but is shocked back to reality when one of his colleagues leaps in front of a fatal blast meant for the Thunder God. Red agrees to do his part, and dies fighting the Serpent.

-Later, Odin resurrects Red with Godlike powers after a falling out with Thor, giving him an Uru Hammer called Crusher. Thor & Red fought once more, but came to an agreement out of respect for each other's powers. Thor dies fighting Onslaught, and Red soon dies fighting the minions of Seth, the Egyptian Death-God. Seth turns Red into a minion, but he soon gains his memories back. He was last seen being captured by the Dark Gods in Dan Jurgens's run on the book, and hasn't been seen since then. This was at least one Ragnarok ago, so it's a bit odd that nobody's seen him.

-Wow... this is odd. I had no idea there was like this totally "Other Thor" that was part of the books for so long. Some of this seems that Red was meant to be a "Jobber Thor", occupying that "Hacksaw Jim Duggan" role where he jobs out to the Monster Heel to make the main hero look better for winning.

-Red is basically Thor Lite, taking the PL 13 role, with almost exactly the same powers.

Garm's another gender changing wolf (is that a thing now?)

I'd always thought Garm male, but in the Kid Loki Journey Into Mystery Garm suddenly became female.

Partly, but I think the big reason was that Roy Thomas just wanted a red-haired bearded Thor. (In a 90s What If that he wrote, he had an AU-Dr. Doom announce out of nowhere that his world's Thor was red-haired.) True to the myths, and all that.

And he would've gotten away with it too, if not for those meddling kids.
