A technopath villain named Comcast? Did he leave cryptic notes saying he was going to rob a bank sometime between 9 and 5 on Thursday?

I GUESS I could do the male characters, too :).

Well, I've been playing a lot of Overwatch over the last 8 months ... maybe it's due time to dust off my M&M builder skills.

Total: Abilities: 72 / Skills: 54--27 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 60 / Defenses: 10 (180)

-The Black Swan is a Barvarian mutant trained as a hit man, thanks to his ability to infect people with "Telepathic Viruses". Deadpool was credited for the slayings of four Japanese crime-bosses, but was himself beaten when he was hired to kill Black Swan. However, Deadpool won their second conflict, which also destroyed Black Swan's castle. However, the Swan recovered thanks to swapping the powers, knowledge and personalities of various aspects of himself, Deadpool and Agent X (Nijo, the brother of one of the Japanese crime-bosses the Swan had killed). He planned a mind-meld to cure the three men, but instead stole all their powers and abilities for himself. Agent X anticipated this, and himself, Outlaw, Deadpool and the Taskmaster all teamed up on Black Swan and killed him. They had his corpse taxidermied so that he could not regenerate.

-Despite this, he regenerated (possibly thanks to Deadpool's powers), teaming up with Black Box to kill Deadpool. However, Wade spared Black Swan after gaining the advantage. In gratitude, he allied with Wade against Black Tom Cassidy and Black Box (oh, I get it now).

-Black Swan is a capable PL 8-ish Assassin with a VERY dangerous PL 10 Perception-Ranged Affliction ability that can leave people with permanent afflictions. More dangerously, for a time he had Deadpool-level Regeneration, likely hitting 10-12 ranks and packing Regrowth on top of it (he came back from being taxidermied.

I wasn't even aware that there was more than one Black Swan in Marvel at this point. I was aware of this guy, but not the second one.

Forbidden Land

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

THE FORBIDDEN LAND:
Created By:
Stan Lee & Don Heck
First Appearance: The Avengers #30 (July 1966)
Role: Weird Foreign Land

-Prince Rey hails from The Forbidden Land, but was unseated by a ceremonial figure on his world- The Keeper of the Flame. Goliath (Hank Pym, at this point) allied with him to win back power, but realized that Rey was just as power-hungry as the Keeper was, and extinguished the flame in disgust. He turned up five years later in The Incredible Hulk, having built a Second Flame, joining "They Who Wield Power" alongside Tyrannus (the Hulk's underworld foe). He & Tyrannus wished to build up the flame and use that energy to become immortal and rule the world. For this, they needed the strongest of all men- The Hulk- but Tyrannus turned on them both, turning Prince Rey and the Keeper of the Flame to dust. This... doesn't really seem like one of Stan Lee's better concepts.

The Chessmen

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

THE CHESSMEN:
Role: Elite Mooks
-Amazingly, I've never heard of, nor statted these characters before, despite them being among my favorite things- Themed Mooks, and Utter Jobbers.

-The Chessmen are the hired goons of Obadiah Stane, who uses them in his quest ot destroy Tony Stark's life. A chess-obsessed genius, Stane of course decks henchmen out to be Knights, Wizards and Rooks. His Queen is set up as Tony Stark's lover, only to betray him, while Stane bought up Stark International in a hostile takeover. The first Knight, however, failed in his mission to kill Iron Man. The Bishop killed the Knight, but also failed to stop Iron Man. The Rook set up Iron Man inside a Scottish castle made up of various Deathtraps, but Tony once again survived.

-However, Tony wasn't so lucky against Stane, the King of the group. He began drinking again as Stane bought up his company, and Tony quit being Iron Man, resulting in the "James Rhodes Era". The Chessmen became Stane's regular bodyguards, fighting the new Iron Man a handful of times. Ultimately, Stane took his own life, seemingly breaking up the Chessmen, but they later returned decades later to fight Iron Man and Broo of the "Jean Grey School For Higher Learning".

-There was also apparently a Pawn, but he never did anything.

THE KNIGHT I-III (Fletcher Heggs, Raleigh Halward & Basil Thorpe)
Created By:
Dennis O'Neill & Luke McDonnell
First Appearance: Iron Man #163 (Oct. 1982), Iron Man #167 (Feb. 1983- Halward), Iron Man #200 (Nov. 1985- Thorpe)
Role: Elite Mook
Group Affiliations: The Chessmen, Stane International
PL 7 (83)
STRENGTH
2 STAMINA 3 AGILITY 3
FIGHTING 6 DEXTERITY 5
INTELLIGENCE 2 AWARENESS 2 PRESENCE 2

Skills:
Athletics 4 (+6)
Expertise (Assassin) 5 (+7)
Intimidation 2 (+4)
Perception 3 (+5)
Vehicles 2 (+7)

Advantages:
Equipment 4 (Flying Steed, Armor +3), Ranged Attack 3

Powers:
"Energy Lance" (Flaws: Easily Removable) [9]
Blast 7 (14 points)

Offense:
Unarmed +6 (+2 Damage, DC 17)
Energy Lance +7 (+7 Ranged Damage, DC 22)
Initiative +3

Defenses:
Dodge +8 (DC 18), Parry +8 (DC 18), Toughness +3 (+6 Armor), Fortitude +4, Will +3

Complications:
Motivation (Greed)- The Chessmen are paid assassins.

Total: Abilities: 50 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 7 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 9 (83)

-The first Knight attempted to assassinate Tony Stark by downing his aircraft, but Tony repaired his plane, then used the Iron Man armor to save it. A second attempt was more close-combat, but Tony lured him into a defensive position and knocked him out. He was arrested soon after, but was sprung by the first Bishop, who revealed his deception by executing the Knight for his failure. His two replacements appear to have made only a single appearance each, mostly as generic Background Mooks.

-A PL 7 Flying Blaster, a Knight is really no match for Iron Man (PL 11 in the 1980s), though his plans can occasionally be tricky, especially as Tony's not always in the suit.

THE BISHOP I-II (Alban Edmond & Orrick Rallison)
Created By:
Dennis O'Neill & Luke McDonnell
First Appearance: Iron Man #163 (Oct. 1982), Iron Man #167 (Feb. 1983- Rallison)
Role: Elite Mook
Group Affiliations: The Chessmen, Stane International
PL 8 (96)
STRENGTH
2 STAMINA 3 AGILITY 3
FIGHTING 6 DEXTERITY 5
INTELLIGENCE 2 AWARENESS 2 PRESENCE 2

Skills:
Athletics 4 (+6)
Expertise (Assassin) 5 (+7)
Intimidation 2 (+4)
Perception 3 (+5)

Advantages:
Ranged Attack 3

Powers:
"Flying Staff" (Flaws: Easily Removable) [12]
Flight 5 (60 mph) (Flaws: Platform) (5)
Electrical Blast 7 (14)
-- (19 points)

"Miter" (Flaws: Easily Removable) [15]
"Brain-Scrambler" Affliction 8 (Fort; Dazed & Hindered/Stunned & Defenseless/Paralyzed) (Extras: Perception-Ranged +2) (24 points)

Offense:
Unarmed +6 (+2 Damage, DC 17)
Miter -- (+8 Perception-Ranged Affliction, DC 18)
Initiative +3

Defenses:
Dodge +8 (DC 18), Parry +8 (DC 18), Toughness +3, Fortitude +4, Will +3

Complications:
Motivation (Greed)- The Chessmen are paid assassins.

Total: Abilities: 50 / Skills: 14--7 / Advantages: 3 / Powers: 27 / Defenses: 9 (96)

-The Bishop was sent by Obadiah Stane to punish the failed first Knight- he sprung him from prison, but then dropped him from a great height using his Flying Staff, and the Knight fell to his death. The Bishop then fought Iron Man using a brain-scrambler, and nearly killed the hero. However, dunking Iron Man in the waters of a loch deadened the transmission, allowing Iron Man to beat him up and take his weapons. Quite ignominious- not as much as dressing like a bad Gandalf cosplayer as a "bishop", but still.

-Bishops are much more vulnerable than the Knights (gotta love inexplicably wearing no armor, just because you have to stay "on-theme").

THE ROOK I-II (Sebastian Towers & Barnabus Kinloch)
Created By:
Dennis O'Neill & Luke McDonnell
First Appearance: Iron Man #163 (Oct. 1982), Iron Man #167 (Feb. 1983- Kinloch)
Role: Elite Mook
Group Affiliations: The Chessmen, Stane International

-The Rooks don't really get stats- they're just guys who sit back in Scottish castles and lay out deathtraps for Iron Man. Basically Arcade-Lite.

QUEEN I (Indries Moomji)
Created By:
Dennis O'Neill & Luke McDonnell
First Appearance: Iron Man #163 (Oct. 1982)
Role: Seductress
Group Affiliations: The Chessmen, Stane International

-Indries Moomji was a "Tony Stark Girlfriend" who turned out to be in the employ of Obadiah Stane, in order to lead Tony back towards drink. Using pheromones to enhanced her attractiveness, she started dating Tony, tempting him to drink, and then cruelly rejecting him at the last moment, resulting in a relapse. She was captured by James Rhodes, but he found he had nothing on her, and had to let her go.

Glad to see the Chessmen statted. When I first read the arc, I was rather disappointed that only the Knights and Bishops were actual combatants. Still, they make good disposable jobbers.

No, I don't know why she's white in the one picture.

MARIE LAVEAU
Created By:
Roy Thomas & Gene Colan
First Appearance: Dracula Lives #2 (Sept. 1973)
Role: Magic Fanservice

-Marie Laveau is a voodoo priestess who was enslaved by the Silver Dagger, the anti-magic foe of Dr. Strange. When she recovered, she stabbed S.D. and foiled his plans. She began aging suddenly when the Montesi Formula wiped out vampires from the Earth- it turned out she had been keeping herself young for two hundred years by harvesting vampire blood, and this was now not an option. She tracked down Michael Morbius, the "Pseudo-Vampire", in order to find another source of blood, and transformed him back into his "Living Vampire" state. However, his blood was unable to sustain her.

-She reappeared when Victor Strange (Stephen's brother) showed up as a vampire, and turned him into her love-slave. Then she resurrected Varnae, the original Vampire, setting the stage for vampires to return to Earth- dooming thousands simply because she wanted to remain young forever. A sexy Voodoo Priestess, she resembles Calypso in some ways, but is largely focused around "Vampire Stories", appearing only in those.
