Re: Jab's Builds! (Lori Lemaris! Mega Man X! Vile! Mega Man X4! Zero!)

So I feel like most of the designs have still been consistently good compared to some of the other Mega Man villains. I actually really like Izzy Glow's look, but I can't for the life of me explain why it appeals to me. At the same time Commander Yammark has a cool look and could see the design being used for a hero Maverick Hunter or a battle-suit using superhero.

Yeah, the chitinous exoskeletons of bugs make for ideal Power Armor. A lot of these designs got really good by the latter half of the series. In the end, the Mavericks have a better ratio of awesome than the Robot Masters.

-Man, ANOTHER bitching design in this game! It's too bad they half-assed the level design, but this is sweet- a purple shark-man. His stage features minor-league enemies, but a massive Trash Compactor that falls from above, crushing you unless you're in the "safe spots". He either charges at you while "swimming" through trash, throws a ricocheting Metal Anchor at you (multiple ones can make this REALLY hard to dodge), or summons an Energy Duplicate one a prior Mega Man X Boss, which fires out their signature attack before disappearing.

Bestows the:
"Metal Anchor" Blast 8 (Feats: Ricochet, Homing 5) (22) -- [23]
  • AE: "Storm Eagle-Shaped Barrel Barrage" Blast 8 (Feats: Indirect- From Above) (Extras: Multiattack) (Flaws: Source- Full-Round Charge) (17)

Total: Abilities: 32 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 39 + 39 / Defenses: 11 (157)

-Mother of GOD! This guy is ENORMOUS! He's practically a friggin' Kaiju! Fitting, for a guy who's basically "Black Robot Gamera". This guy's stage is a Japanese-styled one with warehouse bits, also using a "fog of war" mechanic that only lights up small slivers of the screen at once. Once you fight him, he uses a very simple, yet hard to avoid, pattern- he stands away from you and fires a Missile Barrage from his shell, and then he executes a Spinning Attack that covers most of the lower part of the screen, then moves up, then diagonally downward. This requires a TON of careful moment, as he's so friggin' enormous that it's hard to get out of the way.

-Rainy Turtloid stats up quite a bit differently from all the other Robot Masters & Mavericks in the Mega Man series, being more akin to a giant Mid-Boss or something- hitting with +10 Unarmed, and packing +12 Toughness (owing to the fact that he's almost NEVER vulnerable, and most attacks just bounce off).

Bestows the:
"Meteor Rain" Blast 8 (Feats: Indirect- From Above) (Diminished Range -1) (16) -- [17]
  • AE: "Meteor Rain- Charged" Blast 8 (Feats: Indirect- From Above) (Extras: Multiattack) (Flaws: Source- Full-Round Charge) (Diminished Range -1) (16)
or
"Circling Water Slash" Strength-Damage +6 [6]

He seeks a Reploid government under his own control, and will get it by any means necessary. He resurrected eight of his Reploids, becoming the Mavericks of X6. -Axl is the controversial third protagonist of the Mega Man X series- a teenage-looking kid with a scar on his face and similar armor to X. He's basically very whiny yet smart-assed, which makes a lot of fans dislike him- that the game series had been about a duo for the previous six games probably didn't help. Axl was originally a member of the bounty hunter squadron "Red Alert", but quit when they started engaging in anti-human activities. After a while, X and Zero begin to trust Axl, and he's a member of the Maverick Hunters in the next game, Mega Man X8.

-Axl can copy some Boss Attacks like X can, occasionally getting his own unique weapon from the victory. His unique ability is "Copy Shot", which allows him to duplicate a certain power from Mook-level enemies he's hit. This makes him the only protagonist in the series who can WALK ON SPIKES if he needs to!

Axl is..well, I don't mind him, unlike a lot of people. He was terrible in X7 (though, of course, EVERYONE's voice acting was terrible in X7..), but he improved in X8, and his powerset and getting various guns from beating bosses was pretty cool. Plus, he can also Metamorph into other reploids. Originally, he could only do this with ones that were around his size, but in X7's ending, he turns into Red to trick and defeat Sigma, and in the RPG, he can turn into defeated Mavericks for his hyper move.

Mega Man X7

Post by Jabroniville »

MEGA MAN X7:
-And now we come to the first Mega Man game of the "PS2 Era", in which Sony had grabbed control of nearly the entire industry. This 2003 game involved turning the whole game 3-D graphically, with a handful of sections of 3-D gaming to go along with the polygonal graphics- the only game in the franchise to do so. It also introduces a NEW hero the franchise, in Axl, a former Reploid gang-banger who tires of the evil acts of the group, and is thus hunted by his old boss, Red. And naturally, Sigma Is Behind Everything.

-The game makes X playable only if you do a bunch of "Total Completion" stuff, putting Zero and Axl in the player's hands instead. Naturally, fans HATED this. The reception of the game was mediocre overall, with 3-D elements not being well-liked at all. The "Transition Period" to 3-D was REALLY ugly for many of the most popular franchises of the 1990s, and Mega Man X was no exception- he had it almost as bad as Sonic the Hedgehog did, if not moreso. The voice acting is also a special kind of horrible, proving quite notorious. Seriously, between the poor translation of 3-D graphics to YouTube, and the VA issues, I can't even watching these fights.

-Notably, because this game is 3-D, aiming is much more difficult, so expect to see an unusual amount of "Homing Attacks", which fix that little issue.

-Ride Boarski is a red boar-robot on wheels. Yeah. He's also a berserker with a violent temper- expect him to use a lot of All-Out Attack. Axl shares X's weapon upon defeating Boarski- a Wheel that moves along surfaces, while Zero gains a Blast.

-Vanishing Gungaroo, who ironically does no vanishing, is a kangaroo-themed Maverick. This fight actually starts off in a Ride Armor battle (where you resemble a Giant Mech more than the rounded Cartoon Robot of the early Mega Man X games). After that, it's a standard fight, where he uses hit and run tactics.

Bestows the:
"Explosion" Blast 10 (Inaccurate -1) [19]
or
"Wave Severing Attack" Damage 9 (Extras: Area- 30ft. Line) [18]
or

-Soldier Stonekong was meant to evoke the anime robots of the 1980s, using a sword and shield. His stage is also the only 2-D one of the X7 game. He's also the only one of these guys to hit PL 10, by virtue of his Gaea Shield, which goes away temporarily if he throws it. X and Axl also gain this ability, while Zero gains an "Auto-Deflect" thing that blocks incoming shots and automatically slashes any enemy coming close.

Bestows the:
"Gaea Shield" Damage 8 (Feats: Split) (17) -- [18]
  • AE: Enhanced Defenses 2 (4)
or
"Prison Gate Sword" Strength-Damage +6 & Enhanced Dodge 2 [8]

-Red is the Sub-Boss of the game, and leads Red Alert, a band of Maverick Hunters. However, he links up with "The Professor" (ie. probably Sigma), which makes him evil. He was deliberately designed to look like a red Grim Reaper.

-Sigma is the Final Boss of Mega Man X... and X2... and X3... and... okay, they basically over-used him like the original series used Doctor Wily- let's just leave it at that.

-Sigma was considered the masterpiece of Dr. Cain (the "Dr. Light" of the future), and the best of the Maverick Hunters... until he himself went Maverick and rebelled against mankind (curiously, he's infected by Zero's "Containment Pod", essentially making him a victim more than a villain). He leads an army of Mavericks against the world, necessitating X being awakened to fight him. Defeated by X after the death of Zero, Sigma's body is destroyed, but his silicon soul lives on in the form of the "Sigma Virus". Naturally, he returns in each one of the successive games in the series, being the Final Boss of every single one until Mega Man X8, where Lumine takes over and Sigma is the "Pre-Final" Boss. This gets particularly silly when you realize that most of the games HAVE supposed Final Bosses, but they always end up being victims of Sigma's manipulations or something. He finally dissipates forever in the final game in the Mega Man X series, having been beaten on the Moon with nowhere else to go.

-Sigma casts a pretty wide shadow over the Mega Man series, having dignity and an intimidating look that Doctor Wily lacked. His huge body, Sagat-like face, and flowing cape made him a CLASSIC "Super-Villain", to the point that when I'd write my Original Characters looking all proud and cape-y, people would say "Sigma-like" as a compliment- he's basically the Doctor Doom of video games. He's even made it to being the Final Boss of a Marvel (vs) Capcom game, joining forces with Ultron.

-Despite his stature, Sigma is a VERY fast opponent, frequently leaping off of walls (much like X and Zero can), bouncing across the screen at great speeds while using dangerous melee attacks (a Beam Saber in the first game; Claws in the second). Some of his forms can Teleport, while others pack Blasts (in X3, he fires Multiattack Blast 8). Generally, after being defeated once, he will transform into a different form, such as a Giant Wolf, or a Floating Head (constructed out of wireframes).
