Heh. I have not posted anything on Deviantart in ages, but I recall something amusing.

So, whenever someone favorites one of my works, I go over to their profile and check their art and what else they have in their favorites (since they liked my stuff, they might have stuff I'd like in there).

Well, every time I posted artwork of a standard-muscular-for-comics superheroine and someone would favorite it, I would check what else that person Favorited. Cue frequent parades of ultra-cut, gigamuscular female characters.

I was pretty surprised by the amount of muscle fetishists my stuff was getting, since I never posted anything even on She-Hulk grade of buff, not even close to what else these people had in their favorites. And they were clearly not starved of mega-buff-girl pictures, so it was a bit baffling.
Oh yeah, the MuscleGirl stuff on there is CRAZY. Like, I'm into Zarya and Thundra, etc., but my muscular women are pretty much JUST over human limits. Their proportions are actually normal (7-8 heads high) and they could probably move around. But the stuff that's most popular is basically "tiny head on giant body" or VEINS everywhere, and bodies so big that nobody could move. It's really weird how people take fetishes and just ramp them up beyond all measure.

Never mind the Pregnancy-themed stuff. Try drawing a humanly-possible belly and you're impossibly mundane. Not that I'd ever... you know... DO anything like that. But hypothetically. If I were. To draw a pregnant belly. A beautiful, soft, round pregnant belly.

Good giantess art is hard to find. Much of the time it suggests not a titanic female but a woman looking at her boyfriend's model trains set-up. You need a suggestion of movement, interaction and something else obviously huge in the picture to give a real sense of scale.

It's a bitch to draw, honestly. You usually have to add BUILDINGS, and buildings, to most artists, are both hard to draw and BORING to draw. And the "interaction" aspect is really difficult, as well. Almost any pose is likely to disguise the man's entire body behind some part of the giant woman, or else you have to do a huge close-up, which is also tricky (it's usually from weird angles).

Never mind that most Giantess fans are into weird stuff like feet or "vore" (eating-people porn, basically). Who would have imagined that a bunch of Giantess Fetishists were into GROSS stuff?

I read the Olympian stuff you posted a while back, but other than that, it isn't something I check on regularly, no.

I can only assume by strangling him, Invincible stopped the blood flow to his brain causing various problems throughout his body leading to death, this would work even if the character could go without oxygen.

They mentioned that Conquest exhaled entirely when entering the planets atmosphere, and Mark got his hands around his throat before Conquest could inhale again, so Conquest had literally no air to work with.

Relationship (Omni-Man)- Allen and Nolan make a strong connection while they're imprisoned by the Viltrumites- a telepathic bond makes them allies. However, there is a break when Allen plots to threaten all of Earth just to wipe out the remaining Viltrumites.
Relationship (Mark & Oliver)- Allen is grateful to Mark early on, and considers him integral to the Coalition's fight against the Viltrumites. However, see above- Oliver goes along with Allen, but Mark does not.
Enemy (The Viltrumite Empire)- The Viltrumites have been the scourge of the universe for millennia- Allen's race lost their homeworld and most of their people to them. He would do almost anything to eliminate their threat, including sacrificing allies.
Responsibility (The Coalition of Planets)- Allen is named the successor to Great Thaedus, and becomes the Coalition's leader. This means that his responsibilities are vast.

Total: Abilities: 122 / Skills: 32--16 / Advantages: 17 / Powers: 59 / Defenses: 13 (227)

-Good ol' Allen. Starting off as a hired-on guy who flies from world-to-world and fights their "Champion" to assess their capabilities, his awesome appearance (cycloptean pink dude with a smirk) and funny characterization (he is QUITE horrified to discover that he's been going to "Earth" instead of "Urath" all this time) have made him a recurring guy immediately- so much so that he was given a power-up as soon as possible, in order to make him an actual factor in the stories. He was actually pretty "weak" at first (ie. much stronger than Mark, but nowhere near a Viltrumite- it's established that he was easily beaten by any adult one), but after some Saiyan-esque beatdown + healing (this series takes a LOT from Dragon Ball Z, though Kirkman insists he's never watched it), he popped up as a WAY stronger & tougher guy who's now fully capable of taking on a Nolan-level Viltrumite without dying.

-But yeah, Allen was a runaway success in terms of popularity- he joins with Mark and Omni-Man (becoming friends with the latter), forging an army that can take it to the Viltrumites- he kills a few of them himself, and ends up in charge of the Coalition of Planets when Thaedus is killed by Thragg. This becomes a major plot point, as Allen is now given tremendous responsibilities- not only must he oversee the end of the Viltrumite threat, but he might have to sacrifice billions in order to do so! Almost as soon as the Viltrumite War is over, he plans to unleash a virus over Earth that might kill everyone on it, just to finish off the last of that race. Ultimately, he has to forge a truce with Thragg, who figures out his plan.

-Allen's questionable tactics come up again later, as a final assault against Thragg involves sending Oliver, Mark's brother, into a dangerous situation, knowing that Mark would avenge him. When Oliver is killed, Allen more or less cops to it, and an enraged Mark figures it out, too. Allen is successful- Mark even confesses that the plan was a good one- but they can no longer be friends. The two are seen having more disagreements in the future, though both are blamed for them.

-Allen is one of the trickier characters to place, power-wise. It's indicated at first that he is VERY strong- much moreso than the PL 12-ish Mark around this time period. He effortlessly kills lesser Viltrumites in battle, and he & Nolan punch an elite one to death. He SEEMS to be just as powerful as Nolan is... until the two fight later (over the "Scourge Virus" plot of Allen's), and Allen absolutely beats the snot out of him, taking almost zero damage. Allen can't solo Thragg quite yet, and he can be badly injured by a quartet of Viltrumites, so he's not UNSTOPPABLE, but he's definitely elite. I decided to amp up his Toughness (he is MUCH less vulnerable to damage than Viltrumites- who are quite gooey whenever something tough hits them) and his strength, making him a PL 14.5-ish character- justifying doing better than Nolan in their one fight- it's not like that one went to its end, either, so they only need to be separated by a little bit- Allen is one rank stronger, and two ranks tougher.

Relationship (Mark)- Allen is grateful that Mark is on the Coalition's side.
Enemy (The Viltrumite Empire)- The Viltrumites have been the scourge of the universe for millennia- Allen's race lost their homeworld and most of their people to them. He would do almost anything to eliminate their threat, including sacrificing allies.
Responsibility (The Coalition of Planets)- Allen is the most loyal agent of Great Thaedus.

Total: Abilities: 98 / Skills: 32--16 / Advantages: 15 / Powers: 37 / Defenses: 11 (177)

-Allen in his debut is a much more fragile, vulnerable fighter, being a PL 11 combatant who is tough, but well below a Viltrumite in terms of might.

Huh. I forgot that Allen started out pink and gradually morphed into orange over the course of the series.

Allen generally seemed like a good guy constantly caught in a tough situation, having to make real leadership decisions where he had to put the good of his people over the good of other people. It seemed very genuine to me.

His girlfriend tho . . . Allen sort of struck me as the guy who came from a very conservative background who found his first superhot girlfriend who sexed the Hell out of him, and basically has such a stressful job that their home life consists entirely about sex. I know a lot of guys would think that's the perfect set up: go to a job you like, come home, have mindless sex until you can't move, share a meal, go back to work. But she seemed like the kind of crazy you'd want to avoid. Her species whole idea of child raising is to just . . . not, I guess. They never really went into how their kids were raised. She mostly came off as the kind of girlfriend you'd hate for your friend to have.

Slaying Mantis

Post by Jabroniville »

SLAYING MANTIS (Real Name Unknown)
Role:
Mercenary Villain

-Another one of those "Funny Name + Gimmick" guys, Slaying Mantis appears with Set's Cabal in Guarding the Globe, but reappears later working with the heroes as part of a plea bargain. He has a meeting with the villain Redeye, but is supposed to turn on him with the others- when the mission goes south, he's set up with Best Tiger & Clare Voyant and tries another method, but doesn't really factor much into things- Best Tiger simply shows him where to hit in order to break into a room. He's a guy wearing a suit that has some cutting claws on it.

Clare Voyant's running gag in Capes, Inc. was that she was apparently this adulterous sex-starved woman who basically kept seducing and having sex with pretty much every single guy at Capes, Inc., despite being married herself. Only for it to turn out that when her husband (a much older, patriotic themed hero) walked in on her and the superhero Captain Cosmic, said husband just told the embarrassed Captain (who apparently didn't know she was married) to just make some room in the bed. Turns out Clare and her husband were a pair of happily married swingers.

Defenses:
Dodge +10 (DC 20), Parry +10 (DC 20), Toughness +14, Fortitude +14, Will +7

Complications:
Involuntary Transformation (Stupid Blobs)- Sequids are basically mindless drones without a host to infect. Separation from their host eliminates their threat utterly. Certain "pulses" will destabilize their control as well.
Power Loss (Control)- Sequids cannot control Martians, nor anyone that's too durable to damage with a small spike- humans are easy to take over, but anyone over Toughness +6 is immune.

Total: Abilities: 88 / Skills: 10--5 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 180 / Defenses: 12 (229)

-The Sequids are one of those odd threats that are built up for TONS of issues at a time, but then beaten in the very issue they make their move. They debuted on Mars, as the "slave race" to the Martians, who were training them for certain odd jobs. When a breakaway faction of Martians freed the slaves (feeling slavery to be wrong), it turned out that the Sequids are SUPER-EVIL, as they link to a human astronaut named Rus Livingston, forming a "Hive Mind" powerful enough to easily overthrow the Martians. The Sequids then enslave the Martians and force them to attack Earth, which causes a small band of Guardians of the Globe (plus Invincible) to meet them- the Guardians are barely able to survive, as the Sequids simply fill the gaps with MORE Sequids, and the heroes lack the Area Attacks necessary to deal with them. Eventually, Robot is able to save the day by sending out a pulse that destabilizes their control.

-However, Rus Livingston was actually STILL under control thanks to a few Sequids hiding inside his body (ew), resulting in him building power over time. Enslaving more people, they finally stage and all-out assault, easily beating the Guardians. However, in one of those weird things they just do to write things out, the government sends out a giant Force Field that just happens to be large enough to cover the area of invasion, meaning the Sequids can't expand outwards. Then the heroes teleport all of the infectable people, and Mark shocks everyone by EXECUTING Livingston, ending their threat! This is part of an ongoing theme in the book, where Mark debates the morality of killing, confessing to Oliver that he needs to start wiping out their more-dangerous foes before they can hurt anyone- as Livingston was an INNOCENT PERSON before this, this is a bit horrifying (Robot in particular is disgusted with Mark), and Mark uses this learning experience to shrink back from what was once a hardline position. The Sequids never reappear.

-Things like the Sequids- hive-minds of smaller creatures- are always a big pain to stat, as they do so many things. They can cover any amount of ground, hit dozens of people at once, engage in Mind Control (which I make Contagious, to reflect how one host can have multiple "brains" attached to them, which can latch onto other people), reach very far, and there never seems to be enough hitting power to get ALL of them. With its toughness and partial Immunity to All Damage, a Sequid Horde is damn near impossible to stop without trickery.

-Smaller offshoots of the Sequids can spring up wherever- they cannot reproduce all at once, but there are usually THOUSANDS of Sequids at a time, so there are probably a hundred smaller groups like this.

I really liked Allen. The only thing that was disappointing was that he at first seemed like he might have some cool powers but ended up being just another flying brick. I liked how it took really taking a beating for him to power up. I thought the storyline where he and Omniman were Viltrumite prisoners was really good
