Initiative +9

Defenses:
Dodge +12 (DC 22), Parry +12 (DC 22), Toughness +4, Fortitude +6, Will +6

Komplikations:
Prejudice (Deformed)- Kabal was horribly injured by Shao Kahn's extermination squads, and now must use a respirator to breathe.
Responsibility (Ex-Black Dragon)- Kabal bounces between good and evil in the games- it's revealed that he's a Black Dragon, but then he's good in other games. As of MK 2011, he's good again.

Total: Abilities: 70 / Skills: 38--19 / Advantages: 19 / Powers: 10 / Defenses: 13 (131)

-Kabal was based off of an original design for Baraka, and ended up being one of Mortal Kombat 3's forgettable new characters, along with Stryker, Nightwolf and a slew of ninjas. He was gonna be called Sandman and have saw-blades on his wrists too, but they eventually created him as a hooksword-wielding hero. Then a later game would reveal him to be a Black Dragon member who was evil, after Havik saved his life from Mavado. He hasn't left much of an impact on the MK world, as he doesn't interact with many characters- he didn't even get into MK: Annihilation, being mentioned only in passing as a guy who jobbed to Ermac's forces!

-In the 2011 Kontinuity, Kabal is retconned into being a criminal-turned-cop, and the partner of Stryker. He is burned alive by Kintaro during the invasion of Earthrealm, and is carried away by Outworld's forces. Kano's technology and Shang Tsung's sorcery save his life, and he wears his iconic respirator. He plots to murder Shao Kahn, even beating some of his bodyguards (Mileena & Noob Saibot), but finds a portal to Earthrealm and flees. He then joins Earth's fighters... but is easily killed by Sindel, and then becomes one of Quan Chi's revenants. And unlike most of the important characters, he never recovers, and is just a total jobber in MK X. Clearly the writing team had no interest in the character.

-He reappears in MK 11, but is again a jobber. Resurrected by Kronika, he is told that the elder Kabal's burns were due to torture by Sonya Blade- he attacks but is beaten by Sonya, the Briggs family, and Fujin in the Aftermath update.

-Kabal is a good example of a "Lesser" Kombatant. He earns PL 8 status, which is enough to challenge or even get lucky against someone like Liu Kang, and he's only a notch below PL 8.5-9 types like Johnny Cage, Sonya & Kano, but he's still one of the weakest guys in the games. I justify this through a combination of lack of appearances, lack of focus in the plot, and good old fashioned bias :). When people talk Mortal Kombat, they rarely talk Kabal.

Motivation (Survival)- Kira has been on her own for a long time, in a desperate struggle for survival.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 34--17 / Advantages: 13 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 12 (102)

-Kira is a risk-taking but rational Black Dragon member, recruited by Kabal and partnered with Kobra. She fights like a weird kombo of Kano & Sonya, and is pretty forgettable overall, especially since she actually copies the style and motions of other fighters in all of her appearances (via putting a new body on the old movements).

Rain's appearance in Annihilation was pretty pointless, as he's only in like one scene!
He just shows up, tells Kahn that he's captured Kabal and Stryker and then is killed by him for not making them beg for mercy and killing them. Because, y'know, killing henchmen that actually succeed is totally a great idea.

Defenses:
Dodge +11 (DC 21), Parry +11 (DC 21), Toughness +3, Fortitude +5, Will +4

Komplications:
Obsession (Killing)- Kobra started out just murdering criminals, but soon came to be obsessed with killing everyone he could meet.

Total: Abilities: 50 / Skills: 30--15 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 10 / Defenses: 13 (99)

-Kobra is a member of the Black Dragons, a new recruit of Kabal's who used to be a simple street brawler, but began to develop a murderous intent. He basically looks like an evil Ken Masters (and was called that during the beta stages), and is pretty forgettable aside from that- he's probably one of the worst characters in the series.

Komplications:

Relationship (Sonya & Johnny- Parents)- Cassie loves and respects both of her parents, and misses their old relationship.

Total: Abilities: 74 / Skills: 42--21 / Advantages: 21 / Powers: 7 / Defenses: 12 (135)

-The new "Main Character" of Mortal Kombat X, Cassie Cage is the daughter of Johnny Cage & Sonya Blade- she started out a bit spoiled, but was trained by both of her parents into a Special Forces agent in her own right. She is witty, confident and sassy, but carries a lot of insecurities about living up to the legacy of her parents. She's forced to lead the new team of characters- her best friend Jacqui, Takeda, and Kung Jin, but disaster befalls them constantly, as they're attacked by the old guard frequently (Sub-Zero is meant to test them), and get stuck in Outworld. Since she's the "Last in the Line", like Johnny once was, she inherits his mysterious Shadow Powers, which of course unlock in the final moments of the game's story mode- her father is being tortured by Shinnok, and the resulting anger causes her to snap and defeat the villains, locking Shinnok back in his amulet.

-Cassie, the Main Kharacter of the previous game, seems more like "filler" in MK 11, as she is devastated by her mother's death (Sonya ordered them to leave her behind so they could complete the mission), but meets her younger self. The major thing here is that young Sonya blames Cassie for abandoning her, but they make good in the end.

-Cassie is PL 9-ish, as in the game's Story Mode, she tends to unload on the previous characters, defeating the likes of Sindel, Kitana and others, before unlocking the Mystery Powers that let her take out the Elder God, Shinnok, himself.

Man, these games have produced some TRULY dreadful and forgettable characters- I mean, broken record time, but it's like EVERYONE after MK 3 was a total wreck. Full points to MK X for attempting to remake Bo' Rai Cho, Kenshi and Shinnok, however. But man, it makes it tricky to decide when to post these characters- the closeness of Sonya, Kano & Jax in the canon necessitates posting them close together... but that leaves the drek like Jarek, Hsu Hao & Mavado all to be posted at once. Hence sticking some of them out as quickly as possible while letting a "3/day" rate sit on the others.

If anyone finds I'm posting too quickly, just let me know- though nobody's EVER actually fully said that out loud, so I presume people enjoy this level of spamming :).

Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 46--23 / Advantages: 15 / Powers: 14 / Defenses: 14 (134)

-As a "Second Generation"-themed game, Mortal Kombat X introduces both Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs, unusually giving us women in the "Main Character & Friend" roles for a Fighting Game. Jax, her father, was overprotective and didn't want her joining the Special Forces (perhaps understandable, given the likelihood of fighting sharp-toothed Tarkatans and four-armed guys), but of course she did anyway, using her kickboxing skills to become a dominant fighter. She's mostly just "Cassie's Buddy", though, and makes pretty much no contributions to the plot. Jacqui reappears in MK 11, teaming up with a younger version of her father. They defeat Noob Saibot and his shadow-clones, but are confronted by the elder, who allies with Kronika to fix the past. Once again, she's mostly a side-character.

-Jacqui's moves are just "Jax" moves, using gloves to do super-stuff. It makes her a bit unusual, in that she's a Device-based Fighting Game character, but otherwise she's just Jax with the accuracy & defense shifted a bit.

Looking at the entire rooster I'm kind of amazed how the entire MK franchise changed. Back when the first games came out I really didn't like them, today I think that the reboot is one of the best fighting games I've ever played.

Also, I got to admit I have a bit of a soft spot for Kabal, he's one of the few characters (beside Scorpion and Subzero) that are pretty much morally gray.

In a weird way, Cassie Cage and Jacqui kind of remind me of a hypothetical setting where Iron Fist and Luke Cage's kids grow up and go on adventures together. They even have a "Cage" name in there.
