-This is actually pretty original- one of the first bosses you meet is a FRIGGIN' T-REX, its head made of three balls- it takes a proper Theropod-like pose, and rapidly bites at enemies. It's also twice as big as any other character.

So you had a hard time handling all of those Ballz?
I was eventually able to handle Ballz, and was surprised with how pleasurable it felt!

Now I'm curious as to where the "boxing kangaroo" thing first originated from.

-Pre-dating Tekken's Roger by a few years, Bounder is another boxing kangaroo, but the simplicity of its "ball-head" makes it look more lizard-like. He jumps REALLY high, and hits with a tail attack that works kind of like a scorpion's sting- curling directly overhead.

From what I found it started around 1891, with a panel in an Australian "penny dreadful" style magazine. The inspiration came from the typical defensive stance used by wild kangaroos to fend off their opponents, which looks pretty similar to a boxing stance.
"You're right. Sorry. Holy shit," I breathed, "heckhounds.”

-Lamprey has one of the more interesting and cool concepts for a throwaway Fighting Game fighter- he's a shapeshifter who turns into animals, presenting multiple kinds of threats. Given the limitations on cast sizes (especially for games in 1993), you can see why they don't try that one very often. Apparently he's a genie, but typically he takes the form of a bull, snake, or scorpion, each one offering slightly different traits.

The idea of a shapeshifting genie is pretty cool. Also, all his animal forms have names, too, though of course like everything else they're pretty bad puns.

The scorpion is named "Spike", the bull is "El Ballz", the snake is "Byte Viper". (and the latter is also really cheap because they have a Swallow Whole move that can kill the opponent very easily)

-Jester is the white & black-colored Final Boss, looking more like a generic character if not for his color scheme. He's hard to defeat, being able to counter most of your attacks with grabs of his own, and he can fall into a pile of balls and "slide" across the floor. One of his other techniques is to reform after you knock the crap out of him- he springs back from a pile of balls, and hurts you if you're too close, healing along the way. I statted it up as a separate thing, since it's a Reaction, but its heavily limited since it only happens once- a neat trick that evens out the cost, so it's just Regeneration + Area Damage in cost.

Partly experience in handling Ballz myself, and partly the manual (though it doesn't really help that much, honestly.)

Oh yeah, one extra thing about Jester: He can "fake death", as when you shatter him for the first time each round, he can reform, damaging you in the process if you're next to his pile of balls.
