It's hard to get a handle on The Jester's ballz, since he's the only character in the game that isn't legitimately playable. (the other bosses are playable in a few different ways: Mid-match Shang Tsung-like morph codes, as a reward after beating the game, or unlocking them via a code in the Director's Cut version)

Aside from Guggler healing when he buries his head in the sand, I think that's the only other thing I can see that's missing. These characters aren't really complex, after all.

Alright, that's it for my big set of Ballz! Next up is a set of re-posts- between five and six years ago, I posted some stuff from a set of DC Who's Who books that I got at the Calgary Comic Expo, and it's been sitting there on the original Atomic Think Tank ever since, never re-posted. I re-did some notes on them.

And also... I found a Lost Build! A character I spotted in one of those books, researched, and statted up... and then NEVER POSTED HIM! That was a funny moment.

So the next few days will have some very old DC builds repeated. After that will be the strange Street Fighter knock-off called Martial Champion (one character even has a GOOD DESIGN, believe it or not!), and then about a month of Teen Titans builds.

-As I've mentioned before with a Jonah Hex build, Western Comics once basically OWNED the comics biz- Timely/Atlas pretty much dumped super-heroes ENTIRELY for the genre, and even DC got into the game, losing most of their heroes by 1950. The genre as a whole dominated the '50s (alongside Romance & War comics), and produced tons of characters. Most of Marvel's were "_____ Kid" names (Kid Colt, Apache Kid, Two-Gun Kid, Ringo Kid, etc.), while DC had more varied guys, like Matt Savage here- The Trialbreaker was a generic cowboy who ended up pushed into various adventures.

-There were many others- DC had Vigilante (retconned into a reincarnation of Prince Khufu/Hawkman, though I remember him best for being the only Cowboy to get wiped out by the Anti-Matter Wave in the Crisis on Infinite Earths), The Trigger Twins (one sheriff and one pretend sissy-boy shopkeeper who nonetheless traded places often to beat the bad guys), Scalphunter (Savage's own son, kidnapped and trained by Indians), Bat Lash (a dandy of a cowboy), and more. Most of them will fit this PL 7 framework (making Jonah Hex the best of them- despite being created in the '70s, he's far and away the most iconic and well-known Comic Book Cowboy), being very competent guys with some Skillmonkey tendencies.

-Tomahawk came about in the late '40s looking kinda like Davy Crockett, a man of some repute in American history, though it'd be 13 years before he'd REALLY become famous, thanks to a Disney-produced TV mini-series... a Prof of my from University described it in reverent tones, talking about how he was weirded out later in life to discover that Crockett had died at The Alamo, never having seen it in the TV show. Thinking further, he realized that the ending portrayed him diving into an armada of Mexican soldiers all by himself... as a kid, he assumed that Crockett WAS GOING TO WIN.

-In any case, Tomahawk was trained by the Iroquois in the art of his trademark weapon, became the best ever at it, and fought in the Revolutionary War (thus predating Crockett by a while). I'd never heard of the guy until his Who's Who entry, and I was surprised he was around so early- but Western Comics started right around this time, and became very big later on.

-Tomahawk is a tolerable PL 6-7 fighter, making him one of the best in his era- it's unlikely many of his contemporaries were this good, and even Jonah Hex (from the later Wild West) would only be a PL 8.

-Tomahawk's Rangers are a group of fellow soldiers training under Tom himself, and were gathered over quite a few years of his book, from the looks of things. They're basically what would be modern-day commandos (according to "Who's Who") in the 18th Century.

Here's a list of a bunch of Rangers.

The Members Include:
Big Anvil- Expertise (Blacksmith) 5 (+5), Intimidation 3 (+8), STRENGTH 5, STAMINA 5, INT 0 [12]
-Once pulled an enemy gate clean off their hinges.
Brass Buttons (Private Jud Fuller):
-Dresses in a standard blue-jacketed look of a Revolutionary fighter.
Cannonball (Horace Calhoun) Expertise (Soldier) 2 (+8) [1]
-Got his name for throwing cannonballs at the enemy during one fight. The 2nd-in-Command of the outfit.
Frenchie (Duval): Expertise (Sailor) instead of Soldier, AGI 4, Athletics 6 (+8) [5]
-A spry French sailor, actually acknowledging the French help in the Revolution.
Healer Randolph: Treatment 6 (+7), Expertise (Soldier) 1 (+2), No Weapons [0]
-A former black slave who was trained in medicine as a non-combatant. This is pretty forward-thinking given the era, really.
Kaintuck Jones:
-A formerly peaceful man who'd never even killed an animal until the British killed his friend. Then he went off to war.
Long Rifle: Ranged Attack +2 [2]
-The best shot in the army, making him a PL higher.
Stovepipe: Explosive Equipment [2]
-He wore a goofy stovepipe hat that contained an arsenal of small weapons and things that blow up.
Wildcat:
-He came from a religious sect that abhored war, but he saw it as necessary to preserving freedom, and he was then the most-enthusiastic Ranger when it came to beating ass.

-There's a few other random names out there: Bill Howell, "Suicide" Simms & Matt Willis (who died in battle). Quite an interesting little motley crew actually, with some odd characters.

-It goes without saying that DC had at least one King Kong homage, given that they actually had a "Put as many Apes on the covers as possible" editorial policy at one point. In the Pre-Crisis Era, he was a mutated Chimp with Kryptonite Vision (as he was a Superman nemesis, this was necessary to make even a GIGANTIC APE a challenge to Big Blue), but Post-Crisis versions are typically one-note Giant Chimps that exist for one-off stories. His first origin was that he was a test chimp named Toto, who was rocketed into outer space, getting bombarded with radiation.

-Titano reappeared in the Post-Crisis era in the first Superman Annual, being a test subject chimp who was tortured by evil scientists. Befriending Lois Lane, he grows to incredible size and fights Superman. Reversing his size proves to be too much, and Titano dies in Lois's arms. A much later comic brings in another Titano, as the Kryptonite Man experiments upon a monkey, which causes it to grow huge and shoot Kryptonite Beams from his eyes. The New 52 era creates another Titano- an albino gorilla of merely above-average size, and he is killed by a creature that resembles Superman. ANOTHER Titano, also in the New 52, was a robotic Giant Chimp with insides that glowed green.

-Titano himself is basically King Kong plus Eye Blasts, with the above-normal-animal Intelligence of Chimps. He's big and strong, and could give many heroes a challenge (particularly Superman, given his type of radiation).

Complications:

Prejudice (Albino)- Whale is freaky-looking, and will immediately stand out in a crowd. He couldn't really wear much in the way of disguises.

Total: Abilities: 70 / Skills: 58--29 / Advantages: 23 / Powers: 5 / Defenses: 16 (143)

-Created to be the Main Villain of Black Lightning, I consider this character to be a pretty embarassing retread of The Kingpin, being a big fat guy who's actually "mostly muscle", while also being a crime boss. There's ripping stuff off, and then there's just taking stuff whole cloth from the original source. The "Black albino" thing is actually pretty original (Marvel's Tombstone would actually rip THIS off, I think), though. He was done as a snide, threatening Giant Crimeboss in Justice League Unlimited for one episode, and it was quite effective.

-Whale is an albino drug kingpin who leads the Metropolis branch of "The 100" (a criminal organization)- when teacher Jefferson Pierce speaks out against the 100's drug trafficking, Whale arranges to have one of Pierce's students murdered. This is what convinces Pierce to become the superhero Black Lightning. Whale ends up arrested at story's end, returning months later to try and create another super-addictive drug. He didn't do much after that, until a MUCH later appearance in a Bat-Book, taking over Gotham's Mafia following the death of the Black Mask. He ends up becoming the CEO of Kord Enterprises, which is now a front for Intergang.

-Whale is basically a Mini-Kingpin in every way, taking Fisk's stats and reducing them to make a smaller, but still threatening, threat. Note that the version that appeared in the DC Animated Universe is MUCH tougher, and is virtually a PL 11 Superhuman monster. Though this was taken to goofy extremes in the episode (written by Gail Simone), where physical attacks from Black Canary did nothing, her Canary Cry just tore his clothing, and he was basically immune to all the punishment Question, Green Arrow & Canary could throw at him. I mean, he's still a human being! And then to cap it off, Huntress is about to kill him... with a SINGLE TINY CROSSBOW BOLT. The chick who demolished a building by yelling loudly couldn't hurt him, but a bolt the size of a pencil is gonna ice the guy? And when Huntress decides that killing him would be the wrong thing to do, she shows mercy BY DUMPING THREE TONS OF WOOD AND METAL ON HIS HEAD. Oh, but the Crossbow would kill him, sure.

-haha, well I'll be damned. This is a LOST BUILD- one I did ages ago (probably during my 2015 stretch of DC characters from random sources), but not only forgot about, but NEVER POSTED. He was just sitting right on my PC in a "DC Who's Who" file, and I just now found it.

-The Silent Knight is another guy I found in a Who's Who entry- he's a Knight whose father was murdered by a Sir Oswald, and was sent away to be trained. However, the trainer feared for the boy's life, and so trained him quite well, while publically deriding him as an oaf to avoid making him a target. The young Kent (and yes, he eventually teamed up with Superman- kismet, giving their surnames. Naturally, it's implied that Brian is an ancestor to Superman's father) discovers some awesome armor and equipment in the Forest Perilous, and becomes a secret vigilante, fighting Oswald and his men.

-However, to diguise himself further, he never speaks as "The Silent Knight" (apparently he's the only character in all of comics who thought that somebody might *gasp* RECOGNIZE HIS VOICE if they knew both he & the Knight). He didn't do much outside of his own part of the Brave and the Bold series (given that it went from an Anthology book to a Super-Hero Team-Up book, that's unsurprising), but he's been revealed as a past Hawkman-reincarnation in recent years.

-Silent Knight's a basic Knightly Dude, but comes up pretty cheap. I figure his Gear is just Equipment, despite it appearing pretty silver, since he doesn't show any uber-powers or anything.

On the other hand, I thought the Silent Knight would've been more appropriate a week and a half ago.

Oh good, actual comments :).

I'm always concerned when I post DC builds. Some guys do very well, but things like my Secret Six/Suicide Squad set was very underwhelming in terms of reaction. It makes me very gun-shy about doing DC-themed sets. The fact that DC builds are often almost IMPOSSIBLE to do doesn't help.

So the Silent Knight is essentially just an ordinary medieval knight? Looks to be early fourteenth century by the mail hauberk and the Great Helm he wears.

And man, this talk of knights reminds me that King Arthur And The Knights of Justice had an awesome theme song.
