Yeah, he and Deadpool together in X-Farce made other books less fun.

Complications:
Relationship (Loves Storm)- The two once fell madly in love, despite Storm hating Forge for taking her powers. It was a poisoned relationship, however, doomed to failure.
Responsibility (Cheyenne Heritage & Magical Abilities)- Despite becoming a man of science, Forge is also Cheyenne, and since this is comics that means he must also have magical powers.
Responsibility (The Government)- Forge does a whole lot of work for the U.S., being at first a tech-jockey, and then an X-Factor operative.
Enemy (The Adversary)- Forge inadvertently allowed the mystical demon to enter our world via a magical spell he forged during his time in Vietnam (to kill the Vietnamese who killed his squadmates). The X-Men briefly died to stop this tremendously-powerful foe.
Vulnerable (Electrical & Magnetic Attacks)- As a partial cyborg, Forge is highly-vulnerable to magnetic-based attacks, and electrical attacks may leave him Disabled.
Relationship (Mystique)- They've hooked up multiple times.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 56--28 / Advantages: 13 / Powers: 17 / Defenses: 16 (126)

Forge- The Non-Stereotyped Native:
-Forge's an odd one in X-Men history. Created for the epic Claremont/Barry Windsor-Smith storyline Lifedeath Part 1 & 2, he was a mutant with the weirdest power yet seen: he could invent things with a natural capability beyond anyone else on Earth. Creating a device to permanently remove mutant powers, he accidentally struck Storm with it, leaving her without her powers for YEARS (something unbelievable today... I mean, super-heroes getting LESS POWERFUL?). The resulting love/hate relationship based on this and their mutual attraction (him for butch mohawked biker chicks and her for scrawny, weird-looking Native cyborgs.. Windsor-Smith did NOT give him a strong visage) fueled their interactions for years before they finally became a real item, and he became the resident X-Mansion Tech-head and fixer, also taking part in a few notable battles.

Forge- Now With Stereotypes!:
-Forge debuted as a guy working for H.P. Gyrich and the federal government. De-powering Storm led to a lot of issues, setting off a new status-quo- the two fell in love when he cared for her, but when she discovered that he had built the device that cost her Weather Control abilities, she left him. He would go on to help Rom defeat the Dire Wraiths, as his "Neutralizer" was made large-scale, and sent all the Wraiths on Earth to Limbo. However, while the original incarnation of the character deftly avoided stereotypes (I remember former ATT/RA member Kyle posting about how he shed TEARS when Forge was introduced, as FINALLY his people were represented by someone who WASN'T a shaman or a wildman Noble Savage with animal powers)... now he was a shaman. It turned out that while in Vietnam, Forge's entire unit was killed. In desperation, he cast a magical ritual (nobody in a Claremont book is EVER normal), sacrificing their souls to summon demons to attack his foes. This is the incident that cost him an arm and a leg (literally). And this action caused the demonic Adversary to enter Earth's realm.

-The Adversary first vexes Forge by tossing him and Storm into an otherdimensional realm. The two rekindle their stalled romance, and he is finally able to restore her lost abilities. At this point, he actually JOINS the X-Men, but immediately causes them to lose their lives against The Adversary, using their lives to counter the way the demon entered our realm in the first place. The Goddess Roma resurrects the assembled team (and Madelyne Pryor), setting off "The Australia Years", though Forge does not know this for a while- eventually, he and Banshee join the team (wearing Jim Lee's cool version of the "Trainee" uniform). Here, he was instrumental in The X-Tinction Agenda, going into a trance to avoid revealing the team's plan. He redesigns the X-Mansion's Danger Room & Blackbird jet, but soon Claremont leaves the book, and the next creators just casually dump him aside. Believing that Storm would have declined his proposal of marriage, they start doing the "on-again, off-again" thing, and they're basically never together once I start reading. "Comic Book Relationships Never Last" is TOTALLY a thing, and though Storm never had a really solid relationship afterwards, the writers just never had a plan for these two, and so it never happened.

Forge in X-Factor and X-Limbo:
-The '90s lead to some pretty minor stuff for Forge. As Peter David leaves X-Factor and the book struggles with purpose, he joins it as the new leader, and has some romantic dealings with Mystique. He leads the team into being an underground group, but is badly injured when forced-teammate Sabretooth attacks him, Mystique leaves, and Havok takes over a new incarnation of the squad- Forge leaves in protest, and enters Comic Book Limbo. A couple years later, he shows up in the "Xavier Underground", then mentors Danielle Moonstar, then just kind of becomes a "background guy", never getting a regular role. 99% of characters in this position DIE at some point, but oddly, Forge has pretty much continued in this role, with only the occasional bit of focus- maybe building something here or there (like Surge's power-controlling gauntlets), getting shot by Bishop once, being the excuse for Time Travel shenanigans in Madrox's book, and teasting death once or twice. Ultimately, it seems like Claremont is the only writer who ever liked him, and everyone else just keeps him around because he's a good excuse for something else to happen (need an implausible piece of technology? Just get FORGE to invent it!).

Forge's Abilities:
-Forge stats up kinda funny, seeing as how he has bizarre mutant powers and is just a guy with guns. So he's a lower-powered, highly Skillmonkeyed-up X-dude with some decent combat abilities, but not much in the way of hitting power. He's a cyborg, but only his arm & leg, and I don't recall ever seeing his metallic limbs give him any sort of advantage regarding strength or durability, so they go kinda un-pointed beyond being side-notes and Complications. His Skillmonkey talents are pretty good, though- he's only a notch under Iron Man & Reed Richards for sheer technical know-how, though he has a "cheat" with his Mutant Powers (which also give him Ultimate Skills and Quickness in Inventing). He also has magical powers, but only the Ritualist type, since he never really used them in combat aside from one fight with Magik.

-Flying Tiger... where do they come up with this crap? I mean, look at that costume- a Tiger's head on top of a Banshee-winged suit? THIS GUY shares my damn birthday? LAME. He's an ex-football player-turned-assassin (I'm saddened to admit he's not the only one... SuperPro foe Quick Kick has the same origin) who fought Spider-Woman a couple times, but ended up being one of those common Journeyman Villains who bounced around the Marvel U. Two appearances in Jessica Drew's book went nowhere, and he spent six years on the shelf before popping up in two mass groups of villains (the Fantastic Four's trial during Acts of Vengeance, where Doom controlled a bunch of Jobber Villains to attack the FF; and a mass relocation to the Vault in Avengers Spotlight).

-Flying Tiger's only had about ten or so appearances, most of them involving Fabian Nicieza's Thunderbolts, where he was part of the Crimson Cowl's lame replacement Masters of Evil. He was also seen in the "Pleasant Hill" prison and with Baron Zemo's "New Masters" recently, so he's at least back in the "Non-Speaking Background Villain" sense. He's dropped a few hints about his origins (we don't even know his real name, which is funny, because it would be a matter of public record, especially if he was a football pro), and implied he was a member of the ORIGINAL "Flying Tigers", a regiment of American fighter pilots during World War II, but nothing ever came of that.

-But really, the name and costume are AWFUL, and can't be taken seriously. How many people even KNOW of The Flying Tigers, and how many of those would even accept a guy who dresses in basically a skin-tight fursuit with flying squirrel wings? Though knowing that Chris Claremont is a huge Aviation Nerd makes this idiot make a lot more sense- this is the guy, after all, who featured a ton of pilots in his work, and named characters after the Lockheed, Sikorsky & Vindicator aircrafts, AND popularized the X-Men's Blackbird ship.

-The Flying Tiger is a classic sucky villain, being PL 7 defensively, PL 7.5 offensively thanks to his claws. This means he can challenge some rookies or solo guys at low enough level for a short time, but unless he gets lucky, he's going to lose to absolutely everyone alive.

You'd surprised, but I knew of the Flying Tigers (at least of their existance), but I agree this character has nothing even remotely salvageable.

Force

FORCE
Created By:
Jim Valentino
First Appearance: Guardians of the Galaxy #3 (Aug. 1990)
Role: Rival Squad, Mirror Image Villains

-"Force" is a band of criminals from Jim Valentino's 1990s Guardians of the Galaxy series, initially appearing by constantly beating the GOTG to various clues to find a legendary "Invincible Shield" of great power. Eventually they met up with the Guardians, and engaged in a series of contests to fight over the Shield. They're largely "Mirror Image Villains", with the powerful Broadside fighting Charlie-27, a Centaurian named Photon fighting Yondu, etc. Force did rather well at first (Yondu in particular refused to fight back against one of the last hopes for his race to survive), with Force leader Interface defeating Vance Astro and taunting him with the power of the Shield... but to his surprise, the Shield could not force the Guardians to bow down to him- the Shield had no magical powers!

-Of course, the Shield was that of Captain America, and a disgusted Mainframe dropped it. Then Astro picked it up, and gave an inspiring speech much like Cap himself would have- the keeper of the Shield declared that he was worthy of it, and so we got "Astro Using the Shield" as a thing in that book. Force was teleported away, with most kind of shrugging and moving on with their lives, as they were in it for the money- only Brahl held a grudge.

-After this six-issue arc, the characters returned in GOTG #11 and kept up a few appearances. They are beaten by Malevolence, the daughter of Mephisto- the nasty Brahl happily offered to work for her, and Force were thus declared her minions. A vengeful Brahl led Force against the Guardians, but the rest of the team tired of the conflict and grudge, and more or less gave up. Brahl was defeated by Starhawk when they attempted to kill his wife Aleta, and Interface joined forces with the Guardians against the Universal Church of Truth. However, things were tense, owing to Yondu nearly killing Photon in battle. Together, they faced off against Protege and the UCT, but Protege only ended things when Replica (a Guardian) made an offer to stay as his playmate. In their final appearance, a departing Force confessed that they would be enemies next time, as they were thieves.

-Jim Valentino would eventually leave the Guardians series to go work for Image, but has said later on that his plans were to have Force ally with Rancor's team as part of "Kang's Legion" in later issues. Here, they were meant to be another play on the Legion of Super-Heroes, with the members vaguely lining up (Interface with Brainiac, and Photon with Wildfire, for example). It ended up being SO vague, however, that nobody ever caught it.

-The characters appear to have pretty decent bios for a team that appeared in about ten issues combined, and are powerful enough to fight the Guardians on a very even keel- likely PL 9s.

The Members:
Interface- Smart Guy. Team Leader. Matter Transmuter.
Photon- An angry Centaurian who hates her own people, and constantly lashes out at Yondu. Eye Beams & Flight.
Broadside- Comic's rarest creature- a gigantic, muscular woman that I DON'T lust after.
Scanner- A Snark with Dawnstar-like tracking ability.
Eightyfive- A Kree with Magnetism.
Tachyon- A mysterious, semi-Cosmic being, perhaps?
Brahl- A thug from a previous comic, who later betrays the team to Malevolence.

-Interface was the initial team leader of Force, having greater powers and intellect than the others. A bit more rational than the rest, he's Brainiac-5-ish, being from "Uloc" (instead of Colu) and being a super-genius. Uloc was annihilated when they refused to follow the Universal Church of Truth's doctrine, killing Interface's wife and daughter in the process. He was freed from a UCT jail by the alien god Tachyon. Later, he would adopt the outcast infant Photon, taking her on as a foster-daughter. His past made him far less sympathetic to Malevolence & Brahl when they attempted to join the UCT, and he opposed them. He nearly wrecked the alliance between the Guardians and Force when Yondu nearly killed his beloved daughter, but she finally calmed him down.

-Interface is super-smart, and can alter chemical compositions, which he used to destroy Vance Astro's protective uniform, nearly killing him. Later, he turned Yondu's hand into water vapor after being enraged at the near-death of Photon. This means he's quite expensive (a Continuous Transform and a power that's essentially Disintegration), though still a vulnerable PL 8.

-A Centaurian like Yondu, Photon hated their race, owing to the deaths of her parents, who died protecting her from violent mobs that feared her possibly-mutant powers (it was the '90s). She was thus raised almost entirely by Interface, who rescued her as an infant. Yondu consistently refused to fight her in GOTG/Force battles, but in their final battle, he slashed her throat with his blade when he realized that to not fight back meant death. Interface, her adoptive father, was mortified, but even she tried to keep him calm. Ultimately, she came to see part of Yondu's side, and agreed to research her past and her people.

-Photon (one of many Marvel characters by that name; though "first", she has since been made fourth canonically) could fly, shoot energy beams from her eyes, and seemed to have some kind of arcane knowledge.

-A large, muscular woman with a weird face and a mostly-bald head (WAY TO RUIN MY FETISH FUEL, VALENTINO), Broadside crushed on Charlie-27, and later refused to carry on the feud between the teams. She attacked Brahl (who was leering on her in the shower anyways), being the first member of Force to betray him. In the parting of the two teams, she kissed Charlie, hoping they'd meet again.

-Broadside could increase her strength by channeling any planet's gravitational field into her own body. She was about as strong as Charlie-27. I made her PL 7 on offense, PL 7.5 on defense.

-A male Snark (from the Power Pack comic) with a Dawnstar-like ability to track anything throughout space. He was the only member of his team defeated by a Guardian in their first battle, his tracking power failing to prevent Nikki from jumping on him and burying him under rubble. He doesn't seem to have much effect on the overall story, aside from justifying why Force is so good at finding stuff.

-A small, mysterious alien being with great powers, Tachyon could fly at the speed of light and reflect any energy back to its original source. He rescued Interface from a Universal Church of Truth prison years ago. Tachyon did not attack until attacked first, which proved to be the secret to "winning"- not fighting at all.

-Eightyfive was a pink Kree who was kept in a prison camp by the blue-skinned Kree, who were attempting to control their population- his people were named after their cellblocks, and so he is "Eightyfive". He immediately attacked the GOTG member Replica, as she was a Skrull, as that old racial hatred was still a thing in the 30th Century. The two deciding to ally in the end helped end the fight between Force & the Guardians.

Enemy (The Guardians of the Galaxy)- Brahl is so resentful of the Guardians that he accidentally sold his soul to Malevolence just to get revenge.
Power Loss (Insubstantial)- Yondu's Yaka Arrows spinning around him endlessly caused him to rematerialize and pass out.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 30--15 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 49 / Defenses: 9 (129)

-A vicious bastard, Brahl actually hails from a Steve Gerber Thor Annual, being one of Korvac's various lieutenants. Though they're said to come from "all space and time", it appears to be that Valentino decided that Brahl's native world was in the 30th Century, as he's simply a member of Force in GOTG. With a lazy, rude way of speaking, and a nasty personality (he spied on Broadside "interacting" with a hologram of Charlie-27, and got threatened for it), he ultimately offered his services to Malevolence for the sake of revenge against the Guardians, taking control of the team until Malevolence decided she'd gotten enough out of him, and swatted him away. Ending up in jail, he broke out a handful of other Guardians foes as The Intimidators, but they were ultimately squashed pretty easily by the Galactic Guardians, who then defeated the guy they were trying to summon (Michael Korvac).

-Brahl could turn himself and others intangible. Not so many offensive capabilities, but one of the more effective ways of taking the opponent out of a fight that I've seen.
