Kevin S is so weird about property laws that he thinks players aren't even allowed to stat up OTHER FICTIONAL CHARACTERS in Palladium stats (he thinks he'll be sued if fans do that), but I guess just savagely ripping something off doesn't count. He's odd.

Almost every decision that Kevin S has made is inexplicable. I found it easier to accept Palladium once I just recognized he was a feverish madman.Jabroniville wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 4:30 am Kevin S is so weird about property laws that he thinks players aren't even allowed to stat up OTHER FICTIONAL CHARACTERS in Palladium stats (he thinks he'll be sued if fans do that), but I guess just savagely ripping something off doesn't count. Though it occurs to me that Kev was doing all this stuff pre-internet. Nowadays, it seems that everyone thinks they're an expert on intellectual property law (and the Constitution, and so forth) ...

-Giant Dream Snakes are given the most vague descriptions in terms of Skills & stuff, but have a big anecdote about them (in which they refuse to alter the world to the Pre-Rifts state, because they prefer it this way)- they're mythical "Prairie Genies", said to be able to give you your heart's desire... but they simply choose not to. In reality, they are Illusion-Casters who give you the impression of what you want. With ridiculous M.D.C. totals (P.E. number x100 for a younger one; adults get x1000, putting them beyond nearly anything in the setting), you're probably not supposed to kill them.
Re: Giant Dream Snake
I thought that art looked familiar. I know they reuse art in Palladium all the time, but I don't recall seeing it describing two different creatures. The Snake Bird from Nightbane is a much smaller winged snake that is also surprisingly magical, as well as having some link to the original Palladium fantasy setting. Now I'm wondering whether they added the wings for the Snake Bird or edited them out for the Dream Snake.Jabroniville wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 9:30 pm

The wings look like they were added in random spots to the back of the snake- the thing is clearly twisting, yet its wings are level with each other.

Looks like a very different style of shading too. Kinda wonder if it was even the same artist.

-Possibly winning a record for the most powerful thing with the least explanation, these things are powerful and have a ton of Spells & Psionic Powers, yet have barely any description at all. They're just evil monsters. They like to kill people, because they're evil. That's it.

Re: Jab's Rifts Builds (Dinosaurs! Grigleapers! Brontodon! Dream Snakes!)
I had some fun with those things in one short lived campaign I ran that stretched out west. the Party heard of these evil creatures ruling from the shadows and doing all sorts of bad things. So naturally they hunt them down and discover a basically large village of Oborus Slithers
only twist was though that the Oborus were peaceful contemplative folk who never left their village and spent most times in peaceful mediation and napping because napping was good for the soul
the bad guy turned out to be the one who sent them on the quest in the first place A mage who couldn't find their village and wanted to attack them to steal their powers.
the PCs fought him and his demon army but were losing till one of them convinced the Orobus that they had to take action.
And they did as a collective whole and wiped out the mage and the demonic army hed brought with him.
fun times in rifts

-Probably because someone drew a picture of a guy riding a giant worm, here's the Giant Canyon Worm, a scavenger with more M.D.C. than some suits of Power Armor, and a remarkable tracking ability! Their ecology is a bit goofy, as they scarcely need to eat at all, and LOVE the hot sun. To be honest, this is the kind of crazy shit the book should have even more of- sitting on the ultimate Kitchen Sink Setting, it's a bit sad that most of the book is about cowpokes riding horses, when you know they were sitting on all sorts of weird crap like this. They had Cowboys AND Raptors in the SAME FRIGGIN' BOOK and didn't think to include a band of evil Raptor-Riding Outlaws, for God's sake!

C'mon, we all know that cowboys didn't ride raptors, and people living in the future west really strive to be authentic.

-Giant Lion-esque predators that prowl the American West, Panthera-Tereons (which is ALMOST "Cat Beast", but it should be "Thereon", I think) have good art, a frightening look, and some real hitting power. Like a lot of things in the book, they target grazing and herding animals, meaning they're a constant threat to livestock (and the Cowboys that guard them), but they're also packing one of those "Mystery Add-On" things Kevin S likes to include, in that they have a particular enmity for the Grigleapers (the book posits that maybe they share a home dimension).
-Panthera-Tereons have average M.D.C., but their hitting power is high, with SIX ATTACKS, making them truly ferocious PL 12 creatures.

-True Nightmare Fuel, the Tree Spiders are monstrous arachnid-like otherdimensional creatures who sit atop 150-foot-long legs, immobile until creatures walk below them, at which point they snap out with legs and tentacles, lifting prey (including cattle) towards their ultra-deadly mouths. They are said to especially enjoy the taste of humanoids (because of course), and will track down the noise cattle make, just so they can take Cowboys in their sleep.
