Assuming Aiden parked at the starting line with the others taking part in the race, the other cars aren't that far away. Just a stones thow, or short stroll, away. Presently they are unattended, except for the black car with orange dragons running down the sides. The driver and Dutch are talking at the front of the vehicle. There are crowds of people in the area, but no one is hovering around the other three cars.
OOC wrote:I'll give you the make and model of each car without a check. Aiden is a Vehicles specialist, and his Skill is high enough that he'd be considered an expert. But if you want real details, that will take a roll for each car and you are going to have to actually do more that look at the exterior of the car. You don't have time to do this as a routine check. That'd be 20-30 minutes for each car.

The cars are:
- a cherry red 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. They're a very impressive drag racing muscle car that had a limited production. Modded or not, it's the fastest car here ... on straights aways.
- a black 2016 Nio EP9 with orange eastern dragons painted on the sides. The EP9 is one of the fastest cars to come out of China. It has crazy acceleration and superior breaking. Making it very maneuverable. It is also an all electric car.
- a neon orange 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. They're an ideal street racing car. Highly moddable.
- a disgustingly bright pink 2018 Toyota Supra with lime green under carriage lighting and illuminated hub caps. It is a cult classic street racing car and looks good too. Good modding options and is generally well suited to street racing.

"You know the layout of the course? If we get caught, we'll have bigger problems than acquiring Ms. Seminov."
Diego gives John the look one does when talking to a simpleton who has spoken too much beyond the point of tolerance. Given Diegos complete control of his expressions, it was a wholly intention look. "She is a pawn. A smart pawn, but a pawn. Most chances of acquisition failed when the first exposure occurred. When she was given al the information by someone else, all hope of capture was gone. In chess, pawns cease to matter when they are no longer worth the risk of capture.", simply says Diego. He made sure to speak only when our of earshot of people or low enough as to hopefully not be overheard.

Turning his expression to Aiden, Diego nods. "Anything we can do to stack the deck in our favor?", inquires Diego. Considering most the racers were already primed for the race, Diego didn't hold out much hope. Still, if they could do something before the race to effect the others all the better.

John is use to commanding officers who had the interests of their men in mind - to at least some degree. The more time he spends under the Dark Ascendant's authority, the more his anxiety and fear turn to contempt. And John knows that can be dangerous to his own health if he doesn't hold his tongue. If there's no hope of "capture", not even in a lesser sense, then why are you taking part in this race?, the burly soldier could not help but think as he managed a "Do you have any orders, sir?" through clinched teeth.

Part of Diego wanted to write off the whole race, let Sokolov take the glory of preventing the board voting to surge the troops, and call it a trip. If John could get close to Anna, even a little, it might be worth the reward. Plus, if he scrubbed the whole thing he wasn't sure how the blackmail material would play-out. "Since we can't stack the deck in our favor, when the route goes out we will do what we can. We have a vehicle that John can drive that might be able to slow the others down.", says Diego. He really had no idea what to do. Bound to stay in Aidens sight, Diego would be of little help. John, may prove useful. Certainly the dead body would. "Unless anyone has other ideas, I suggest we socialize a bit. Staying by the car will look suspicious.", says Diego.

"If it takes time to kick in, that is a good tactic. The conditions you imposed on me prevent a better solution, but I can make something work. To avoid detection of a long object exposing us before we even run the race, we should probably start walking by the cars at the very least.", suggests Diego. He wasn't keen on people seeing his powers in a big party.

"As long as we aren't obviously doing anything, we should be ok to walk around the cars. if asked, we say we are just checking out the competition.", remarks Diego. As he walks, he prepares in his mind a shifting of his body to extend a long tool like black tentacle for optics and any tool formation needed to effect the cars. If they got caught, he would need to be quick about drawing it back into his foot.

As They walked between the cars, Diego made light general car banter about wondering how fast the observed vehicle could go, where they might have had the work done, and such. At the same time he would sprinkle in what he really saw phrased as speculation so Aiden could guide him on what to do.
Stealth 5#1d20+9: 5 # 13 15 28 11 24 First four for the cars and last for the not being noticed in general. This isn't going to end well...

Also, since his solid form doesn't have any extending capabilities, I'll use a HP for a new form similar to solid, but with weapon swapped out with tools and sense through the tentacle for the tool.

A lot of what Aiden is talking about goes over Diego's head. When he doesn't understand something, he can't exactly ask for more detail or clarification. Not here, under these circumstances. He does his best, but it feels sloppier than he'd want. In the end, no one notices Diego working away to ruin the chances of the other drivers at winning the prize. Whether they find out later is another matter. But by then Diego will be gone and wearing another face. Or no face at all.

Time ticks down. The music's volume lowers, and a dark skinned man in bright purple pants and a black wife beater hops up into a truck bed. People stop what they're doing and turn to look at him.

"Glad everyone's enjoying the party, but the main event is about to start. Get your shit sorted. Count down is in five minutes."

The announcer then jumps down from her perch on the truck and saunters towards the starting line. people begin clearing the street, moving off to the sidewalks. Most anyway. Four people make their way their way to the cars at the starting line.

It was what it was going to be. At this point, if they failed he had to bank on the fact Sokolov wouldn't let the city be swamped with Stonghold soldiers. So, they were playing on house money at this point as he saw it. If Anna pulled the trigger on the black mail material, he would have a justification for restarting the whole enterprise beyond Iona being an untrustworthy partner in the venture.

"Lets get this race going. We all know the plan at this point. Just be ready and keep your eyes out for any sabotgue.", says Diego. it was now up to Aidens driving skill. Diego, having to stay under observation, couldn't do much more to help.

Looking to Aiden, Diego gave a nod. "It's in your hands now.", says DIego simply getting into the car.

Aiden nods and gets in the car. "There may be other opportunities during the race."

He looks at Diego and then back toward the front.

"It's not worth much, but I didn't know I was sent here to handicap your mission. I thought Dr. Sokolov was testing me... and I was failing miserably."

John keeps his voice low when he's near Aiden and The Dark Ascendant. "I'll go back to the vehicle. I'll head out onto the streets nearby. You can direct me as you see fit and I'll do my best to present "obstacles" to your opponents."

With that said, the soldier makes his way back to the Jeep. Once inside, he locks the doors and breathes out a sigh. Glad that he's operating behind tinted windows (especially since there is a body in the trunk area), John begins to looks around in the floor, back seat, and glove compartment for any auto supplies, lighters, matches, or shopping items left in the vehicle that could be used to make an improvised explosive device of some kind. And I thought I had tough missions in Afghanistan...
OOC: OK, John first look to see if there is something extremely simple and quick he can use to make an explosive. It doesn't even have to be that damaging. It could be something like a "flashbang" that temporarily blinds a driver. Here is John's Demolition Roll: Demolition Roll for an IED: 1d20+7 13. So, a total of 13. Not a very good roll. I'll use my HP to try and get something better. Here's the reroll: Reroll for IED: 1d20+7 12. It was a 12, but since the HP adds 10 to the roll, it becomes a 22 total. Of course, I'm assuming that there are materials in the car that could be used for an IED. If not, then John will have to think of some other way (on the fly) to disrupt the other drivers.

While Aiden and Diego are talking John is sourcing materials for his IED. There is plenty of alcohol being drunk in the street party. He gets ahold of a couple bottles of something high proof. Then he turns to the Jeep he stolen. Checks the back, under the seats. Glove compartment. Finds some flares. A cellphone. Tape. Lighter. Motor oil. Half used mini-propane tank. An idea come together as he work in the tinted confines of his vehicle. Over the course of ten minutes, he manages to put together a crude firebomb with the cellphone acting as a detonator. He just needs to call it.

By the time John has finished his work drivers are in their cars and engines are rumbling. Or in the case of the EP9, emitting a soft electric hum. The announcer with the purple pants walks in front of the contestants, a short shafted yellow flag in one hand. He holds up a hand and the general noise of the crowd quiets down.

"The race's waypoints have been forwarded to all ya'll's by now. Anyone straying from the route is DQed. Pretty much the only rule. On my mark, get your asses out of there."

There is a chirp from the GPS unit on your car's dashboard. A maps pops up of the local area with a yellow line indicating a serpentine route that loops in on itself at points, until it merges back with the starting line.

The announcer raised his hand, the flag he holds lifting up over his head. Brown eyes scan over the wind shields of the five cars. Then abruptly he drops his arm, waving the flag and signaling for the race to begin.
OOC wrote:You didn't account for Mentally Impaired's -2 to the Demolition roll. Even with that it is high enough to put something together.

Originally there was going to be more to the race scenario, however Aiden and Diego successfully sabotaged all but one of the cars. Most of this will become narrative. You only have one real competitor ...but it just so happens to be the fastest car in the race.

Aiden will make three Vehicle checks, opposed by the Demon's driver. The Demon's driver will get a bonus, because their car is a Speed rank higher. But the race is about more than just speed, so it isn't an auto-win.

In the event Aiden looses the best of three opposed checks, John will have an opportunity to come in and use his explosive to take out the Demon near the end of the race.

If you can think of a way for Diego to assist Aiden or hinder the Demon's driver, you may make Team checks to support Aiden's Vehicle checks.

Go ahead and make Aiden's first Vehicle check.

"Being an unwitting puppet of an ego-manic narcissist is one thing. It merely shows your naiveness. Willingly giving away my abilities when told not to is another issue that will be handled later. As of now, we need to finish this race and win it hopefully.", says Diego simply as he gets in the car. His voice isn't threatening in tone or cadence. On the contrary, its matter of fact way of saying it is almost even more chilling.
John keeps his voice low when he's near Aiden and The Dark Ascendant. "I'll go back to the vehicle. I'll head out onto the streets nearby. You can direct me as you see fit and I'll do my best to present "obstacles" to your opponents."
When John pipes in over the comms, Diego doesn't make many motions. "Be at the ready to utilize the body. It may help shield you from suspicion when creating a diversion.", instructs Diego. John was ill suited at protection, but he may yet prove useful as a distraction. Iona certainly was.

With he race about to kick off, Diego looks over to Aiden. "We may yet win this, but if it gets out of hand we will need to be prepared to use other means to get the item.", remarks Diego. He was already planning stealing it in some fashion, perhaps after John departs with Anna.
