Some Thoughts on The Third Movie

Post by SolarOracle »

Alright, next in line are the villains from the third and latest movie, so let's keep the tradition going and post an overly long summary and review of it! Funnily enough, this one is the one that could most easily fit into canon, since it takes place in the months between the Endeavor Agency arc and the start of the war in the Paranormal Liberation Front arc, with all U.A. students interning and training with the pros, and the events of the movie easily being able to fit with that long timeslot, unlike the absurdly contrived time the other movies' placement on the timeline suggest. Because of that, I see a lot of people being way more OK with embracing this movie as canon, unlike the other movies, where it's kind of a hot debate. I don't really care either way, honestly.
: P

I think this movie is pretty great overall. On par with the second one for sure, and WAY better than the first one. It kind of suffers from the same issues as the second movie, with the pacing being way too fast most of the time and then getting brutally slowed down on parts that weren't really necessary. The villains from this one feel a bit "meh" compared to Nine's Crew from Heroes Rising, with only really Flect Turn, the main antagonist getting some development (not a lot), while the rest are just sorta there and don't get a lot of dialogue or exposition aside from some very basic stuff. Oh well, still better than Wolfram's guys!

This one also has a really generic name, like the other two movies. I don't know why they keep doing this, must be some odd cultural thing, but it's just kind of funny for me. Admittedly, "World Heroes' Mission" is a title that only works for this one (which already mens it's better than "Heroes Rising" or "Two Heroes") but it doesn't really mean anything aside from "this movie has a global scale." Keeping with what I did with the other two, I started calling this one My Hero Academia: Movie 3 = The One With the Crazy Cult to differentiate it more.

The main focus of this movie is the acts of a religious terrorist group known as Humarise, who believe in the Quirk Singularity and believe the rise of quirks will inevitable cause society to completely collapse, believing that quirks are a curse and a disease and only quirkless humans are pure and should be saved, being a group mostly composed of quirkless people. After kidnapping and conscripting many scientists and engineers to develop powerful bombs that will spread an altered version of the quirk enhancing drug Trigger, called Ideo Trigger, which enhances the victim's quirk to a degree they completely lose control of it and harm themselves and those around them.

Humarise unleashes a bomb of Ideo Trigger in an unspecified major city, causing heavy casualties, and taking advantage of the ensuing chaos to conscript surviving quirkless people into their organization, telling them they were the chosen ones who were given salvation. This terrorist attack attracts the attention of the international hero community, as heroes, sidekicks and interning students from all over the world team up in a huge task force that distributes the heroes all over the world in cities and countries Humarise has been known to operate and could potentially be planning to bomb, and they organize simultaneous raids on the organization's bases, but fail to find any high-ranking member of the cult, only capturing low ranking acolytes, causing the investigation to have to go on longer.

Meanwhile, after the bombing, Alan Kay, a researcher who was forced to work for Humarise, escapes with a micro SD card containing a key that will prevent the cult's Ideo Trigger bombs from going off in various large cities, having developed the stop measure along with other scientists from the group, many of whom were executed for their betrayal, including an engineer named Eddie Soul. Planning to prevent the bombing, Alan escapes to the European country of Otheon, presumably planning to inform the media about Humarise's plan and stop it with his key, as the cult continues trying to track him down and reapropriante the stolen SD card.

Also in Otheon, Endeavor's sidekicks and interns, including Midoriya, Todoroki and Bakugo, were stationed there in the agency of a local hero known as Clair Voyance, assisting the agency in investigating Humarise in Otheon and doing local hero work. While the three U.A. students are patrolling the city, they run into a pair of local villains who have stolen a briefcase full of valuable jewels and are attempting a getaway, prompting the trio to spring into action and rush to stop them. In the ensuing battle, Bakugo and Todoroki manage to catch up and capture them, but not before the villains manage to giver the briefcase to the person they had to drop it off with, a street urchin named Rody Soul, the son of Eddie Soul, who is supposed to then drop it off with the buyer so they are paid for the job.

As Rody notices the three heroes, he starts his escape but is chased down by Midoriya, being forced to use the urban environment to his advantage to trip up and outspeed Midoriya, as he attempts an escape. Simultaneous to this, Alan Kay, the scientist who escaped Humarise, is driving with a briefcase containing the key to stop the bombings, and is suddenly attacked by Humarise member Beros, who knocks him out into a coma with her sudden attack, as part of the highway collapses near where Rody is. making him mix up the briefcases with the one Alan had as debris falls around him, but he is still too concerned with escaping Midoriya to notice. A bit later, when the hero catches up to him, Rody notices that he has the wrong briefcase and is puzzled by the situation, just like Midoriya, but the two end up being surrounded by the local law enforcement, who, unbeknownst to the two, work for Humarise, and who are fully decked out with tactical and assault gear and are pointing their guns at the boy, demanding him to drop the briefcase and opening fire on him very quickly, forcing Midoriya to rescue him with his Blackwhip as they swing around the city in an attempt to distance themselves from the murderous cops.

Simultaneously, Beros notices the switched briefcases and turns her attention to Midoriya and Rody as well, using her quirk to shoot the two with her arrows from afar, trying to take them down, confusing the pair even more as they evade the attacks and continue their escape. Finally alone with the thief, Midoriya points out that clearly something wrong is going one and that they can't allow law enforcement or the woman who was shooting arrows at them get their hands on the briefcase, much to Rody's frustration, as he is still in shock over the whole ordeal and just wants to go back home. Unsure on what to do, Midoriya calls Todoroki, who informs him that Midoriya has been charged with mass murder by Otheon's law enforcement, who refuse to give details on his supposed crime, and that he needs to make an escape and quickly deactivate his phone so he can't be tracked.

After taking out his phone's battery, Midoriya and Rody start planning their escape to the neighboring country of Klayd, where they be away from Otheon's legislation and will be able to better regroup with the heroes and figure out what's going on. The two travel the country and start bonding somewhat, as Rody tells Midoriya about his circumstances, having been ostracized and denied opportunities during his whole life after his father was conscripted into Humarise, as people wanted to keep their distance from him and his family. He was forced to turn to crime to provide for his younger siblings, wanting them to at least be able to live a clean life away from crime.

Later, as the two are continuing their journey to Klayd and Midoriya has sent a coded message to Todoroki informing him about their destination, in the middle of the night while Deku is asleep, still wanting to return to normalcy and see his family again, Rody tries to contact the authorities to return the briefcase, while Pino, Rody's pink bird sidekick (whom I completely neglected to mention until now because of how it basically doesn't do anything during most of the movie), tried to wake Midoriya up to stop Rody. A helicopter arrives at the place Rody called from, with a man in a suit telling the street urchin to give them the briefcase, and after he complies, attempts to kill the boy to silence him, but Midoriya arrives at the scene and defeats the villain, now making Rody keenly aware that they have no hope other than escaping and facing their enemies head on.

A few days later, after arriving in Klayd's border, the two are ambushed one final time by Beros and other Humarise agents, who unleash an attack on the two, and as Rody is falling to his death, suddenly Bakugo and Todoroki arrive, saving the two and defeating Beros and the rest of the villains there. With them regrouped, they manage to figure out the micro SD card inside the briefcase and find a message by Alan Kay, detailing the cities that are going to be bombed by the cult and explaining the encrypted key on the SD card that will stop the Ideo Trigger. At thew same time, Humarise announces in a livestream their plan to Ideo Trigger bomb multiple cities and force the heroes to go locate the bombs, which the cult did as a diversion from the key Midoriya and his group found and as a way to disperse their force as much as possible so they can all die in the bombing so that subsequent bombings will be easier and allow them to more easily weed out heroes and other quirk users.

Not wanting to waste any time, the four make their way to Humarise's main base in Otheon while the pro heroes go deal with the crisis in case they fail. Arriving there, Humarise's leader, Flect Turn, mobilizes the remaining members of the cult to stop the advance into their base, sending some of the most powerful members of the group, the Serpenter twins and Levbiathan, to stop Bakugo and Todoroki respectively, as a showdown between them starts and Midoriya makes his way into Flect Turn's room looking for the computer he can use the key to disable the bombs, coming face to face with the villain.

Bakugo's fight against the Serpenters initially is fairly easy for him, as they use their quirk to turn their arms into long bladed whips and attack him in pair, but his explosions prove too powerful and he is able to bury them under the debris of a pillar he collapses on them, but is then surprised by when they dose themselves with Trigger, empowering them considerably as their blades become much mightier and cut through the debris, attacking him with even more bladed whips as the fight continues. Eventually, however, as Bakugo is being repeatedly cut by the twins' powerful blades, he manages to pin them against the walls and attack them with an empowered Howitzer Impact, resisting their damage long enough to finally take them down before collapsing in exhaustion.

Todoroki, meanwhile, fights against Leviathan, who is able to shrug off Todoroki's attacks with his enormous body and immense strength, using his quirk, empowered by Trigger, to unleash devastating attacks on the hero student, as both fall into a river where Leviathan can use his quirk to his full potential and Todoroki fights to stay conscious while he downs in the cold water. However, noticing they are nearing a waterfall, Todoroki regains his focus and is able to temporarily freeze up Leviathan as they are shot out the river, but the villain survives the attack, unleashing a powerful fire attack that envelops Todoroki. Using the last of his strength, Todoroki survives the flames and attacks with a powered up Flashfreeze Heatwave, finally taking down the villain and passing out.

Midoriya, meanwhile, entering the depths of the hideout, finds Flect Turn guarding the computer that controls the bombs. The two start fighting, but Midoriya finds himself unable to overcome Flect's quirk, which reflects the energy of any attacks used against him back at the attacker, essentially forcing Midoriya to keep hitting himself over and over while he remains completely unharmed. Midoriya insists that he will not give up, and that he can't stop fighting no matter what, because all his friends are also out there fighting and giving their all, but he is interrupted as Rody Soul arrives, telling Midoriya that it's over and he needs to stop fighting, as he gets the SD card from Midoriya.

Rody explains that he was found by Humarise's acolytes, who told him he and his family would be spared if he gave Flect Turn the key, and that Midoriya is clearly unable to save everyone, and so he must at least save the ones he loves. As he is saying this, however, hiding behind Rody's back, Midoriya notices Pino and remembers Rody's quirk, named Soul, which manifests his true feelings and intentions in the form of Pino, a quirk Rody always detested due to it making him unable to lie properly, but that Midoriya said was a very amazing quirk.

Pino signals to Midoriya that Rody is lying to distract Flect, and that he plans to make a break for it while Midoriya hold the villain back, finally having found a use for the quirk the street urchin had always found useless. Noticing the signal, Midoriya attacks Flect Turn again as Rody charges the computer room, but is hit by one of Flect's lasers on his way there.

Despite his injuries, through pure force of will and perseverance, Rody manages to insert the key on the computer, starting the deactivation of the Ideo Trigger, while Midoriya continues fighting Flect, only injuring himself more and more, but notices his attacks are starting to slowly but surely wear down the cult leader's quirk. While Flect is in shock with this,, Midoriya comments that this happened because the villain stopped believing in his quirk and saw it only as a curse, finishing him off with him unleashing a full power United States of World Smash on Flect, finally breaking through his quirk and taking him down, breaking his arms in the process (why does this happen every movie? Like, man, I don't know, it just kinda goes against Midoriya's arc and character, since him promising his mother he would stop breaking his body repeatedly and stop putting his life on the line so much was such a big part of his development. It just kind of feels like the movies really want to one up each other with this stuff and it's genuinely frustrating).

Finally having stopped the crisis, much later, after everyone recovers in the hospital, Midoriya and Rody Soul say farewell to each other at the airport, as Rody now seeks to find honest work and stop working as a thief, now able to presumably because of Humarise being toppled down. Rody says that he finds Midoriya annoying and can't wait to never have to see him again, but the hero sees Pino crying as he looks at him, knowing his friend's true feelings, as both part ways.

Again, this is a pretty good movie, and seems to get the characters and the series much better than the previous two movies. Rody is a pretty interesting character and seeing him bonding with Midoriya and helping them take down Humarise was really cool. The animation was really good as always, the fight with Beros at the Klayd Frontier especially comes to mind when it comes to scenes with great animation.

Humarise was kind of a big letdown, all things considered. How the normalization of quirks and the rise of hero society impacted religion is a topic that isn't greatly explored in the series, only really appearing as a theme with the Creature Rejection clan's brief appearance, and even then, it wasn't really fully explored. Because of that, I was pretty excited to see how they would bring that up in this movie, but it just kinda didn't come up, since the movie didn't have time to explain their ideology or history properly. Flect Turn is also a really boring BBEG, being really distant and mysterious and crap the whole time and we not really getting any significant insight on him aside from him detesting his quirk and hating quirk society. The rest of the group is even more devoid of character, with them only getting, like, a single defining character trait and that being it. We also don't really get to know what makes Humarise a religious group, as most of the points they bring up are more sociological issues than issues of religion and stuff, so they just kind of end up as a really underdeveloped reverse Meta Liberation army, which really sucks, since they are a group that had a lot of potential.

There's this whole roadtrip montage sequence in the middle with Midoriya and Rody while they are travelling across Otheon that just felt really out of place and slow, which was pretty annoying. This movie has a really fast pacing overall, and then it just freezes to a halt all of a sudden when that part comes up, which kinda pulled me out of the movie a bit.

I should probably also talk about how the movie's marketing was kind of weird, since it focused a lot on the international heroes and stuff, while they were a very small part of the movie. The first promo image we got was even all about the "tactical costumes" Midoriya, Bakugo and Todoroki were going to get for the movie, and they only appear for a small sequence in the movie's intro. It all just felt kind of weird, like they were kind of struggling to figure out what the movie was about at that point or something.

All in all, I think this is probably my favorite movie in the series despite its flaws, and a movie that is worth watching if you get the chance.

20 Abilities, 18 Powers, 3 Advantages, 8 Skills, 7 Defenses = 56 Character Points

About: A very minor antagonist, the gale villain is one of the two villains who execute a jewelry theft at the start of the movie, charged with giving them to Rody Soul so he could sell them to the buyer. His most noticeable characteristic is his large pompadour. His quirk, Gale Gale, allows him to manipulate the air around him, allowing him to create a small tornado around himself, which he uses to move at great speeds and attack others by running into them.

During the movie, after successfully completing the jewel heist, him and his partner run into Midoriya, Todoroki and Bakugo, who start chasing the villains, splitting up to lose them. He uses his quirk to move through large crowds of civilians, blasting them all over with his powerful winds and forcing Midoriya to rescue them, costing him some time, as he escapes into the alleyway where Rody was awaiting their meetup. After swiftly giving Rody the briefcase with the stolen jewels, he is attacked by Todoroki, whose flames are deflected by the pompadour villain's quirk, but end up serving as a good distraction as the criminal slams into a wall of ice the hero student had created, knocking him out and allowing him to be captured and presumably arrested.

This guy has a pretty interesting quirk, kind of a more limited and specialized version of Yoarashi's powers. His design, along with his partners, stand out quite a bit, with how memorable and goofy looking they are, with the disco clothing and funny hairdos.

This is a pretty standard PL 6-ish build, with a higher defense, since his quirk was able to deflect an attack from Todoroki who is usually pretty accurate with his flames. I decided to give him a lower Parry bonus with his quirk tho, since I assume hitting him at melee range wouldn't be as difficult. I considered making his speed flight ranks, since he seems to hover slightly while his gale is activated, but since he remains pretty much at ground level the whole time, I decided to just do it as speed instead.

Outfit: The pompadour villain is seen wearing a large white coat with a skull design on his left arm and a black t-shirt underneath, along with a golden chain around his neck, a pair of tracksuit white pants and a pair of black shoes with a large golden spike on the front.

Cool to see you cover the third movie! It’s my favorite as well, though I agree that the villains were wasted. There was a lot that could have been explored, especially Flect Turn’s life, like how he needed special contact lenses because his Quirk even reflected light away from his eyes. Still, it was cool overall. Nice job with the pompadour criminal. Looking forward to more!

Motivation: Greed
: The Afro Villain doesn’t seem to have any reason for his crimes other than wanting money.

20 Abilities, 11 Powers, 4 Advantages, 9 Skills, 17 Defenses = 61 Character Points

About: The second half of the villain pair at the start of the movie, the afro villain is minor antagonist that participates in the jewel heist at the start of the movie, sporting a distinctive pink afro and stylish disco clothes. His quirk, Fire Cracker (yes, spelled in that weird way), allows him to remove pieces of his afro and to create small explosions from them, a power he uses in combat by chucking several pieces of it on his enemies and blowing them up, but that he also uses for mobility by holding on to pieces of his hair and using them to propel himself forwards with minor explosions.

During his brief time in the movie, the afro villain successfully steals jewelry together with his criminal partner and attempts to drop them off with Rody Soul, before being chased down by Midoriya Bakugo and Todoroki. the two villains split up in order to disband the heroes, leading him to be chased only by Bakugo, using his quirk to try to get away from thee hero student, but upon realizing that his opponent was faster than him, tried to take him down with his explosive hair, something that fails, as Bakugo attacks him with his much more powerful explosions, telling him that he will show him real explosive power, and knocking the villain out as he is sent flying away, presumably to be captured by the authorities.

Another very memorable character, purely because of his goofy and awesome design. His quirk is pretty interesting, all things considered, kind of making him a weaker and more limited version of Bakugo.

This guy is another standard PL 6 goon, like his partner, favoring ranged combat and dodge. I considered making his quirk do area damage, but the explosions seemed kind of small individually, as he relies on blasting a bunch of pieces of his hair at a time and exploding them all together in order to create actually decent explosions, so damage with multiple split ranks felt more fitting.

Outfits: The afro villain, like his partner, also wears disco clothing, sporting a black blazer with long yellow fringes with a yellow shirt with black tiger stripes underneath, a pair of long black pants, a belt with a stylized yellow buckler with a four-point star symbol, a golden ring in each finger and a pair of big white platform shoes with a large golden horn at their end.

Thanks, man!

Yeah, the way the movie handled Humarise in general was a pretty big letdown. Flect could have been a pretty interesting antagonist if the movie had elaborated more on his past and character a bit, instead of just making him another distant and unemotive anime bad guy.

Post by SolarOracle »

Just noticed that somehow this thread managed to recently hit the 100K view mark, and I just wanted to make a quick post to celebrate that!

It just honestly feels kind of weirdly surreal in a way, and just generally puts a smile on my face. I'm very glad that people found these useful or entertaining or whatever, and that I got to share my love with this universe and series with everyone.

So I guess thanks for everyone who frequents the thread and finds whatever use with the stuff I post, and especially thanks to everyone who comments and participates in discussion of the series and characters here, since it gave me the opportunity to learn to appreciate even more this series that has been so important to me throughout the years.

Lastly, just wanted to give another very big thanks to the Echoes community in general. It just has been such a chill place to hang out and discuss shit with people these last two years, and reading through other threads and stuff is something that has gotten me through very long and tough days more than once. Love you all! Thanks for being awesome!

Congratulations! I'm super-happy to have more successful threads on here! And someone who is a huge MHA fan and knows the M&M rules, and can thus appropriately stat out the characters in a way that is agreeable to the fans, lol. I know some had asked me to do it, but I never read the books or watched the anime so there was little chance I'd have been able to do it half as well.

I'm actually sad that the manga/show might end soon because I still enjoy this thread- hopefully there's enough side-content or things to talk about. Maybe go back through the characters and give bigger elaborations upon their characterization? Or your thoughts on how some developed, and which ones you liked more or less with time?

So thanks for the really great, thorough thread!

Haha, and I don't even have 10k combined on both of mine. But yanno, you do good work and I generally get a kick out of seeing you bring these guys to life. So to speak. Even though I've only been here a few months, it's still pretty neat and I've contributed my share to that 100k views.

Congratulations on the milestone, and thank you again for being a part of our little community. I'm glad you've been enjoying your time here. We're definitely all enjoying having you here.

And apologies for not commenting as much lately, I've been busy with some RL stuff the last couple of months, but I was damn impressed with your commitment to statting up EVERY one of the MLA's mooks during the big brawl. That was an impressive undertaking and attention to detail, and a solid resource for anyone needing some quick mooks to use.

I also agree that the third movie was really solid, though overall I'd say I still probably prefer the second movie. Both of them have their strong points, but I think the fact that the second one had an emphasis on heroes helping out people in non-violent ways and the teamwork needed to win sold it for me. I will say that 3 is much closer to 2 than 1 is in my estimation, and I'm looking forward to when it gets released on Blu-Ray.

Congrats on the 100k views! You deserve them!

Nice job with the build, as always. The Afro Villain and Pompadour Villain were fun and funky characters.
Looking forward to what you have next!

Humarise

Post by SolarOracle »

Originally founded in Otheon by Flect Turn, Humarise is a huge international religious terrorist group that believes in the Quirk Singularity Theory, and who orchestrate attacks designed to kill quirk users so they can capture and convert more quirkless people to their cause, seeking to return the world to the norm of there only being quirkless people (whom they refer to as "pure humans"), despite there still being quite a few quirk user on the cult, who we are told were made to "give their lives to Humarise to atone for their sin" or something along those lines.

Humarise members and devotees refer to quirks as a disease and those who have it as infected, referring to pro heroes as being "infected with Stage 5," showing that they also have a despise for the hero culture that formed with the rise of super powered society, and that they think hero work is the infection of quirks spreading and worsening.

By the time of the third movie, Flect Turn somehow managed to grow Humarise to an insane proportion, having millions of followers in many countries, being able to orchestrate various simultaneous international trigger bombings and having Humarise members in positions of power in society, including having near total control of the police of Otheon. Like, seriously, these guys are giving the MLA a run for their money! Re-Destro's army existed only within Japan and took many generations of fanaticism and crazy devotion to develop to the point we see it at, while Flect's cult somehow grew to an international proportion in 10-40 years tops.

Humarise are the main villains of the Worlds Heroes' Mission movie, where a rogue scientist from the group, Alan Kay, manages to escape the cult with a pen drive able to stop all their trigger bombs, and after Alan is hospitalized by Beros, that pen drive ends up with Midoriya and his group, who then have to figure out what the deal with it is and how to use it to stop Humarise, while the other heroes from around the world deal with the attacks Humarise started to conduct to distract them. Eventually, Midoriya defeats Flect Turn and stops the trigger bombings, ruining Humarise's plan and allowing for its members to be arrested, presumably disbanding the organization (though, realistically, the remaining cult members would probably get in conflict with each other and split into many different sects and shit).

These guys had a lot of potential, but the movie gives so little exposition on them as a group that we end up not knowing much about them or their ideology, we mostly only get implied information, a lot of which we already saw from other characters in the series before (the whole "quirks are a disease" thing was spouted by Overhaul all the time, for example). We don't get any insight into their religious beliefs aside from the crazy culling stuff, which doesn't really seem like a religious thing, more of a philosophy thing phrased in an overly dramatic and religious manner.

I think the idea of a group composed mostly of quirkless people is really interesting for this series, since we never had any quirkless bad guy before, but that ends up completely wasted as well, since the only quirkless cult members we see are faceless goons with guns, and all the names members of the group are quirk users. Having villains that relied on support items and pure physical training could have been very interesting, shame they didn't go that route, as a lot of the Humarise people have bland and uninspired powers and personalities.

Re: Solar's Build Thread - Boku no VILLAIN Academia Update

Post by SolarOracle »

Sorry for this last break, started running a new campaign recently and got caught up with doing builds and planning for that. Also ended up getting inspired to work on a few fantasy-inspired builds, so that also ended up consuming a lot of my free time as well (might make a separate build thread for that last one at some point, look forward to it!). Good news is that I already have all the remaining villain builds done, so hopefully I'll get them all posted with this last push.

After I'm done with those, we'll move on to characters that I didn't post among the heroes or villains, mostly civilians, police, government workers and a couple pro heroes that I either forgot or who appeared in the manga after I was done posting those (man, building Star and Stripe is gonna be complicated).

After that point... I'm not really sure. We still have to go through the Vigilantes characters at some point, but I think a small intermission with some one-off character builds (as opposed to the "stat everything" philosophy I applied to Madness Combat and Boku no Hero) might be a good idea. Then again, I could also just leave those to after I'm done with Vigilantes. Would love to know what you all prefer, and, hey, if you got any one-off build requests for then, feel free to send 'em my way and I'll do my best to do them.
Jabroniville wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:41 pm I'm actually sad that the manga/show might end soon because I still enjoy this thread- hopefully there's enough side-content or things to talk about. Maybe go back through the characters and give bigger elaborations upon their characterization? Or your thoughts on how some developed, and which ones you liked more or less with time?

So thanks for the really great, thorough thread!
Been thinking quite a bit about that, honestly. A lot of my old bios are very lacking and disorganized (and don't even get me started on the typos and grammar errors), so it is something that I would like to do at some point. Like I mentioned before, we still have Vigilantes to go through, and there are some other Hero Academia spinoffs that I want to do builds for, so the thread will be sticking with this series for a while longer still, so don't worry, there is still plenty to discuss, LOL.

I was also thinking maybe posting mini reviews/rants on each story arc could be a fun thing to do once I'm done with the main series, since I noticed that I failed to give a comprehensive and complete timeline of events for the series and stuff.

And glad to have you reading these as well, man!

Complications

Motivation: The Eradication of All Quirks: Having lived a very difficult and secluded life due to his quir, and being aware of the Quirk Singularity Theory, Flect Turn formed humarise seeking to free society from quirks, attempting to make quirkless humans the norm again.

Responsibility: Humarise’s Leader: Flect Turn’s cult is massive, having bases on at least 25 separate countries, and he presumably must oversee and coordinate their operations.

Reflects Everything Away: Flect's quirk makes it so no one can ever touch him, being pushed away and getting hurt instead, which put a heavy strand in every relationship he's ever had. It also made it impossible for him to successfully harm himself when he turned suicidal from the depression this brought on.

Reflect Limit: Flect Turn’s quirk uses some kind of energy to absorb and reflect incoming attacks, and it seems to deplete the more attacks it bounces back. Though it has been shown to be able to handle a great amount of incredibly powerful attacks, an onslaught of incredibly powerful attacks, at the DM’s discretion, will eventually be able to penetrate through his quirk and harm him.

28 Abilities, 196 Powers, 12 Advantages, 20 Skills, 9 Defenses = 265 Character Points

About: The great leader of Humarise and the main antagonist of the third movie, Flect Turn is yet another cold, calculating and emotionless villain who was somehow able to amass a ridiculous number of followers into his religion, which was able to infiltrate governments and even assume full control of Otheon's police. His quirk, Reflect, makes it so anything that touches him is reflected back without causing any harm on him, which made him immune to attacks from others and allowed him to channel the energy of this quirk into his support items for greater offensive capacity, though this reflective power could eventually be drained out through a sequence of multiple extremely powerful attacks.

Flect has always had a great despise for quirks and quirk society as a whole due to the harm his quirk caused him, which made it so he everyone he cared about would eventually abandon him. This lead him to creating Humarise as a religion, preaching that quirks are a disease and an impurity, and that Earth should be given back to those without quirks, using the Quirk Singularity Theory as an argumentative basis for this idea, which somehow gained a lot of followers nationally and outside of Otheon, mostly quirkless people.

As his religion grew, Flect eventually started planning terror attacks with a modified version of the quirk enhancing drug trigger, named Ideo-Trigger, which caused the quirk of those affected to be empowered to an absurd degree and grow out of control, spreading mass destruction, and allowing for Humarise to take advantage of these attacks to conscript the surviving quirkless people into their group, even against their will. This series of attacks drew the attention of the international pro hero community, who devised a task force to track down Humarise's bases and stop them, which was benefitial to Flect's plan, as he spread many Ideo-Trigger bombs all around the world to spread out the heroes and make it more difficult for him and their main base to be located.

However, due to one of the conscripted scientists, Alan Kay, managing to escape and deliberately programming a deactivation into the Ideo-Trigger bombs that could be activated with a SD card he had taken with him, and despite managing to have his agents incapacitate Alan, Flect failed to have the incident not get the attention of other pro heroes, as Midoriya, Bakugo and Todoroki, together with Otheon street urchin Rody Soul, got hold of that information and the SD card, and proceeded to raid their base as the Ideo-Trigger activation sequence was started to hold back the other pro heroes.

Eventually, Midoriya manages to reach Flect Turn while his allies deal with the rest of the organization, with the leader Humarise blocking the mainframe which would allow for the bombs to be deactivated, and leaving Midoriya no choice but to fight Flect off, which initially doesn't work out in his favor, as Flect has the lasers in the room aim at Midoriya, and uses his Arachne support item to move at great speed and keep up with the hero, while reflecting every attack Midoriya throws back at him, resulting in Midoriya being beaten up by the strength of his own attacks repeatedly, gravely injuring him and tiring him out more and more, as the time continues to run out.

Eventually, Rody arives and manages to bluff to Flect that he would give him the SD card if him and his family were spared, with the street urchin taking the SD card and running towards the mainframe, but being injured by the room's lasers before entering the room, making it uncertain if the boy had actually managed to achieve the deactivation or not. Meanwhile, the heavily injured Midoriya continued to fight off Flect, slowly chipping away at the villain's quirk, eventually managing to fully drain it out, dramatically proclaiming that Flect had lost that fight due to him giving up on his quirk, as Midoriya goes all out with his powers, (continuing the cliché of him fucking his hands up in the movies, breaking his promise to his mom and going against his character and arc, but whatever), and delivers All Might's most powerful Super Move, the United States of Smash, renamed into "United States of World Smash" as he finishes the villain off in an admittedly awesome sequence. Later, the authorities manage to capture Flect, putting an end to Humarise and their plans.

Flect isn't really a capable fighter, relying basically purely on his quirk for his fights, since very few powers can actually hurt him (I'd even rule that he purposefully takes incoming attacks so to reflect them back, not using his Dodge or Parry ranks). His support item, the powersuit known as Arachne, is also a helpful boost, allowing him to move at great speeds and increasing his combat abilities somewhat.

Flect is a boring character with a badly explained motivation the movie doesn't nearly elaborate enough on, being another generic always serious all the time uber powerful emotionless bad guy with obsessions of grandure and a somewhat sympathetic backstory (he's, what? The third of those in the series?) His quirk is OP in a way that isn't interesting, just kind of dumb. He and the rest of Humarise are the worst part of the movie, and it frustrates me because of how much cooler as a group they could have been.

So, the whole Reflect Extra on Immunity was a goddamn godsend, as I didn't even know it existed until Jab brought it up on the Discord sever literally as I was trying to figure this build out, LOL. I was originally gonna make him immune to Toughness effects, but since he is supposed to bounce any attack that comes his way away, not just pure damage, decided that Dodge and Parry Immunity was better, leaving him only vulnerable to Perception Range Effects (which, like, I assume a psychic attack would work on him, if those were a thing in the series' lore, but that could be wrong for all I know). Outside of his OP as balls quirk, Flect doesn't really have a lot going for him, ending up at PL 7, gaining some good boosts with his Arachne suit and all, but not enough to be a significant threat. I REALLY don't recommend using this build for an encounter unless you hate your players a lot and want them to hate you back.

Outfits: As a religious leader, Flect Turn wears grandiose white and red ceremonial robes with a very high collar and decorated with blue discs that seem to contain the energy of his quirk. Beneath his white cloak, he wears red robes and his Arachne support item, which is a stylized metal belt around his waist that connects to his fingerless gloves and boots, and to various glowing lenses and discs around his body, which allow him to channel the energy of his quirk to move faster, hit harder and redirect incoming attacks.

Nice work with Flect Turn. I really wasn’t sure how to stat his Quirk myself, but I think you nailed it.
He is indeed criminally uninteresting for someone with the few details on that we’re given. There’s so much more that could be explored and explained. One of the notes about him said that he wears special contact lenses to see because his Quirk even reflects light away from him; how does he clean, groom, and clothe himself? How does he put in the contacts? Does his Quirk not apply if Flect Turn is doing it personally? Hell, I would have been okay if they had just said that some support item company developed special materials that aren’t affected by his Quirk.
I think the entire story of the third movie would have worked better as a half a season of its own. Or maybe even a miniseries that takes place after the events of the series, maybe after 1-A have graduated and become full fledged pros? I don’t know, I’m babbling now.
But again, good job! I’m looking forward to the next one!
