Terrax is a great villain. None of that pesky “character depth” or “evolution” to get in the way- he’s just a god-tier cosmic A-hole who stands as an enormous, yet simple, one-off threat. Justifiably a big deal, but can be believably tricked or out-tactict-ed.

I am not a god. I have never created life... but I have lived. That is enough. So I will fight to preserve that same opportunity -- to love, to dream, to soar among the stars -- for all those yet to come. Many lives will be lost in the battle ahead -- but their efforts will ensure that some remain to remember their deeds. And, like the gods, they will truly live forever... even after they are gone. - Silver Surfer

Abilities 122 + Skills 24 (48 ranks) + Advantages 7 + Powers 173 + Defenses 2 = 328 / 328

Build Comments: The mighty Silver Surfer, longtime herald of Galactus and one of the great dichotomies in comics: a totally 70’s, kinda goofy comic concept that actually still looks cool. I mean, a naked bald silver guy riding a surfboard? A cosmic surfboard? Really? To think that advanced alien species would have such a concept, not to mention the fact that a guy that is as old as time itself who goes around eating planets and empowers his heralds with massive cosmic power doles out a SURFBOARD?

But you know what? It looked cool then and it looks cool now. Logic be damned. The Silver Surfer rocks.

Secret Origins: Norrin Radd is from the utopian planet Zenn-La, in the Deneb star system of the Milky Way galaxy. He is the son of Jartan and Elmar Radd, and he has a half-brother, Fennan Radd. Zenn-La's ancient and significantly advanced civilization has lost the will to strive or explore, leaving the young scholar Norrin Radd restless and yearning for adventure. Facing the destruction of his world by planet-consuming Galactus, Radd bargained with the cosmic being. In return for the safety of Zenn-La and his lover, Shalla-Bal, Radd pledges to seek out planets for the world devourer to consume as his herald. Galactus imbues him with a portion of the Power Cosmic, transforming him into the Silver Surfer.

The Story so Far: Radd serves Galactus for an unspecified amount of time. Eventually, the Surfer summons his master to Earth. Here the Surfer meets the Fantastic Four and Alicia Masters. Touched by their nobility, he rebels against Galactus, who is eventually driven off. Before he leaves, he confines the Surfer to Earth with an invisible barrier that affects only him.

During his exile, the Surfer fights numerous villains, including Doctor Doom, who wants his Power Cosmic, and Mephisto, who wants his soul. Banding together with the Hulk and Namor the Sub-Mariner during these wanderings, the Surfer forms the "Titans Three," a group dedicated to battling evil on Earth. Soon, Doctor Strange joins the group and it becomes "The Defenders." Surfer stays with them for a while, but his overwhelming desire to be free of Earth and his frequent collisions with Galactus' energy-draining barrier eventually drive him to leave the group.

The Surfer finally pierces Galactus' barrier with the aid of Reed Richards and temporarily escapes Earth. He doon discovered that his homeworld has been ravaged by Galactus and Shalla-Bal has been abducted by Mephisto and taken to Earth. Even though it means trapping himself once more, the Surfer returned to Earth to battle and defeat Mephisto. Before being vanquished, Mephisto sends Shalla-Bal back to Zenn-La, but the Surfer managed to endow her with a portion of his Power Cosmic, which she used to revitalize the plant life of their ravaged homeworld.

After the Surfer aided the Fantastic Four against Galactus' latest herald, Terrax, Surfer finally managed to pierce Galactus' barrier by acting on the Thing's suggestion of trying to pass through on a spaceship instead of via his own power on his surfboard. He also manages to make peace with Galactus by rescuing his current herald, Nova (Frankie Raye), from the Skrulls and encounters the Champion, after which Galactus finally declares the Surfer's long exile ended. He immediately revisited his homeworld, but Shalla-Bal, in his absence, had become empress of the rejuvenated Zenn-La and hence unable to renew their romance.

Over the years, The Surfer repeatedly battles space-born menaces including Thanos, the insane former herald Morg, Tyrant and others. He briefly returned to Galactus’ service after the Annihilation Wave event, but has since been released and has continued to serve the cosmos and assist Earth’s heroes when needed.

Characterization: One of the noblest and most tormented cosmic entities in the universe, the Silver Surfer treasures freedom above all else, but has often sacrificed his liberty for the greater good.

Friends and Foes: He remains on good terms with Galactus, even when he is not acting as his herald despite their complicated history. He also often works with other Heralds, although Stardust is quite jealous of him since she believes that the Surfer remains Galactus’ most favored Herald.

He has many allies on his adopted homeworld of Earth incluing the Fantastic Four, his former Defenders teammates and Superman.
Great build for a great character. I loved enhanced awareness. It is interesting that his boosted strength is greater than your Thor's. Using a bigger array is necessary for such a powerful being and multiattack nicely reflects his ability to subdue more than one enemy at once. I really liked this build.

Thanks, Harnos. I fixed his strength boost which should have been 3 instead of 4 to be consistent with the other heralds. And I also fixed a math error with his Flight, which I probably would have missed had I not reviewed. ;)

Abilities 108 + Skills 10 (20 ranks) + Advantages 12 + Powers 167 + Defenses 9 = 306 / 306

Build Comments: Firelord was actually the first herald of Galactus that I ever read about. He was into a scrape with the X-Men over something involving Lilandra and Erik the Red, Juggernaut, and Black Tom if memory serves. I thought he was pretty cool but I didn’t see much of him again until Annihilation where he kicked some serious ass.

The more I think back on Annihilation, the more I realize how good it was. It brought back so many B to D list characters in interesting ways and the whole thing seemed so cohesive and epic. I think it might be Marvel’s last truly great crossover event.

Secret Origins: Pyreus Kril was born on the planet Xandar, in the Andromeda Galaxy. He is a graduate of the Nova Corps Academy, the military and exploratory force of the planet Xandar. During his commission, he served aboard a Xandarian ship under the command of Gabriel Lan. Gabriel and Pyreus became close friends, until Gabriel was abducted by the cosmic entity Galactus and transformed into the herald the Air-Walker. Pyreus assumed command as captain and began an obsessive search for Gabriel. Pyreus eventually located Galactus' vessel and confronted the entity, only to discover that Gabriel was killed in combat. Galactus tells this to Pyreus only after the Xandarian agrees to serve him as his latest Herald. Pyreus is then transformed into Firelord.

The Story so Far: After a period of servitude, Firelord asked for his freedom. Galactus agreed on the condition that Firelord first find a replacement. Firelord traveled to Earth and after an encounter with the Thunder God Thor and Hercules is freed when Thor presented Galactus with the armor of the Asgardian Destroyer to animate and use as a Herald. After aiding Thor on several occasions, Firelord returned to deep space. He returned later with the Shi'ar agent Erik the Red, who tricks Firelord into battling the X-Men.

Several years later Firelord discovers that Thor has battled a robotic replica of the Air Walker, and after revealing the origin of the two Heralds to Thor he returns to space with the remains of the android. Firelord later encounters Spider-Man in a fight - albeit one provoked by humans who drove Firelord into a temper because they believed that he was a mutant - but he was defeated by the wall-crawler due to Spider-Man's hit-and-run approach serving as an effective counter to Firelord's brute raw power. Firelord also met the superhero team the Avengers, and assists them against the space-pirate Nebula. Firelord has since aided his fellow Herald Silver Surfer on a number of occasions, particularly against the threat of Morg, Galactus' most brutal Herald. Firelord assisted Thor in his battle against Thanos and his thrall Mangog. Firelord and Air-Walker also helped Nova and the New Warriors fight the Xandarian villain Supernova.

During the Annihilation event, Firelord lost his friend Air-Walker, who was hunted down by Annihilus' Seekers. Firelord is not present for this battle, but later rescues the Silver Surfer from the Seekers alongside fellow Herald Red Shift. The Heralds band together to defend a refugee fleet as the Silver Surfer is replaced by the Herald Stardust to the dismay of Firelord. The three heralds band together and eventually join Nova's United Front against the Annihilation Wave. Firelord sacrificed himself to capture one of Annihilus' Queens during a battle and is believed to be half-dead and half alive while in the care of the United Front's medical unit. Firelord recovered long enough to intervene in a battle between Ravenous and Ronan within the infirmary ward. As the building crashes down around them, the Super-Skrull (once thought dead) emerged from the rubble with the unconscious bodies of both Ronan and Firelord. After Annihilus is defeated by Nova and his compatriots, Firelord set out on a quest for vengeance against the Centurions, the strike force that destroyed his homeworld at the start of the Annihilation Wave.

Characterization: Pyreus is an honorable being but is prone to towering rages that can cause him to leap into conflict with the slightest provocation.

Friends and Foes: Firelord was close to Air Walker and maintains a generally civil relationship with the other heralds.

I still think Fire-Lord has the following vulnerabilities: +5 effect from guys who blame themselves for their uncle's death and +5 effect from guys who date hot super model types.

I've always thought Firelord was sorely underrated as a cosmic level hero, he should at least be seen as one of the most powerful heralds.

Someone forgot to tell that to Tom DeFalco before writing Spider-Man #269-270.

Abilities 104 + Skills 14 (28 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 163 + Defenses 8 = 295 / 295

Build Comments: Slowly but surely working through the Heralds, this time I worked up The Fallen One. This is PURELY Wiki fueled but he has a cool look and it seems like he would be a good opponent for the Superman/Omni-Man types of the Thorpacoverse.

Secret Origins: Long before selecting the Silver Surfer as herald, Galactus' first herald was the Fallen One; recruited or created under unknown circumstances, his true name was forgotten over the millennia.

The Story so Far: Eventually, the Fallen One was cast out by Galactus, possibly for his naturally corrupt, power hungry, and violent nature. He was imprisoned many times over many centuries, upon each escape he immediately targeted Galactus, who always defeated him. Eventually the Fallen One was brought down by the Star-Lord. However, the energy required caused massive collateral damage, leaving 350,000 dead. The Fallen One was kept in a créche in the Kyln's Omega Core, a massive intergalactic maximum security prison.

During a battle between the Maker and Thanos of Titan on the prison planet of Kyln, the power was shut down to many portions of the Kyln. Without power flowing into his containment unit, the Fallen One escaped the Kyln and again sought vengeance on Galactus. As he confronted Galactus, Thanos mentally tried to reason with him, reminding him of Galactus' special purpose in the universe. The Fallen One justified himself, saying that Galactus knew his true nature when he made him into what he had become, and still he was casted out. Galactus decides to simultaneously alleviate his own problems and spite Thanos, teleporting the Fallen One to Thanos' ship. The Fallen One's powerful energy attack devastated The Mad Titan's giant ship, sending him plummeting to the surface of the planet below. Surviving unscathed, Thanos and his new ally Skreet overpowered the Fallen One, sending him into the core of the gas giant and ignited it. Thanos mentally enslaved the Fallen One's unconscious form, so that when he awoke he would serve as Thanos' own herald, as well as provide him with information as to a source of unlimited energy.

He broke free of Thanos’ control after Thanos’ death at the hands of Drax and now roams the cosmos, searching out ways to increase his power while waiting for the perfect moment to strike back at his maker.

Characterization: The Fallen One is an angry, vicious and vindictive being that is one of the most dangerous beings roaming the cosmos.

Friends and Foes: He is obsessed with destroying Galactus and the other heralds. He also bears a grudge against Thanos as well.
