Pounce!
HP: 1; LP: 0; Condition: Normal
Pounce had not spoken aloud since meeting the first Servile, and she had been moving on all fours, keeping close to the Shaper. It was entirely likely that the Serviles might consider her a simple beast, a pet. And while she was, at least in part, designed as a companion, she was also a scout, an explorer. With the loss of, well, Scout her own responsibilities in such endeavors were increased- and while she wanted to stay by the Shaper's side, she knew she had work to do. Meat Shield and Chips could stay with the Shaper for now- they wouldn't usurp her favored place, and from the looks of the size of the village she could be back very quickly if needed.
*I will go, and explore. And come back* she pushed the thoughts out. With one more rub along the Shaper's leg she prowled forward out into the village- moving like a beast would, stopping to check interesting scents, peering around corners... Her senses were alert, absorbing new information from this unfamiliar setting- while her path was not direct, her first real goal was to check the building that was producing the unpleasant smoke.

Mingling with the locals, being all diplomatic, and maybe messing around with one or two of them. Just what Craze loved to do. he thought he would love it anyway. Since his interactions had been limited so far, he wasn't sure of everything he would love, but he was open to new things. Going with the Shaper to a meeting where he would sit there wasn't his bag. It didn't feel like it. Plus, he might find a few nice shiny things to add or swap in his collection. More creations, without Shapers too! So many things to and creations to meet and learn about., is all Craze conveys ready ti take off. He was already starting to go in fact.

Not sure what rolls or how far ahead we are playing the split scenes. So, I'll hold posting how he goes about it and the like.

Chips and Meat Shield
As your group splits up the six armed Serviles remain with D'Tan, Chips and Meat Shield as they are escorted to the large central building. On the way Servile villager move aside to make room of your passing. Many stop their daily routines to start and chatter among themselves. Other than the obvious presence of armed Servile guard around the village, there are no threats that are obviously apparent in the village just by looking around. Though Meat Shield notices some interesting things.
The smoke coming from the building Pounce is making her way towards has smoke coming from it's chimney. To Meat Shield eye the smoke looks different than the smoke coming from other chimes in the village. IT's 'texture' is oily. It's shading darker.
Next Meat Shield takes note of an old gray haired Servile standing in the doorway of one of the larger buildings in the village, at the northwest corner of the settlement. In their hand they hold an opened book as they obverse you passage to the central building.
Finally, Meat Shield sees a Servile duck into a small hut made of wood surrounded by trees. A short time later a gray feathered avian flies out of a window in the hut and begins heading east. The bird had something attached to one of it's legs.
The three of you enter the central building. The interior is lit by torches. Fire flickers from torch holders on the walls and on the tips of candles stationed on tables, seen as you walk from hallway to dining halls. There a large number of Serviles in the building. It seems to be used to house them and store supplies. There are two distinct sections. One that is overpopulated with mundane aesthetics, and another that has fewer Serviles and goods of a higher quality. Such as better prepared food on the dining table in the meeting hall that you are eventually lead to. There a well-muscled Servile in glittering chainmail armor sits at the head of a table talking to other armed Serviles seated further down the table.
When you arrive, all eyes are on you. Or rather, Shaper D'Tan. The Servile at the head of the table says something to the others at the table, she get up and leave the room. The armed Serviles who escorted you spread out and take up stationary positions are various point along the walls.
The chainmail clad Servile stand, his dark brown eyes studying the young Shaper with a critical eye. Not the fear and nervousness seen in the other Serviles. Ther is hardness, determination, and willfulness in his bearing.
"Greetings Shaper. I am Brodus Blade. I protect Vakkiri from all that would threaten the Awakened."
Pounce
Pounce meanders deeper into the village, taking a winding route to her destination. Some Serviles had seen her traveling with the Shaper. Others had heard about the strange Creations that accompanied the Shaper. So she was given room to stroll. Watched. Given space. But not actively avoided. There is a lot of gossip in the village about the arrival of the Shaper. A lot of fear about what this meant. What the Shaper would do. Would they be enslaved? Would the Shaper Unshape them? Would he save them from all their woes?
There are some food smells coming from some of the buildings. More, and more complex smells coming from an easterly direction. But that is in the opposite direction she plans to go. Eventually Pounce comes to the stone structure with the bad smelling smoke. Peaking into a window she sees a robed Servile working amongst transparent containers. Mixing fluids and powders. Then boiling substances in various containers.
Pounce, having done nothing to conceal her observations, is eventually noticed by the robed Servile. He picks up a stick up a broom and walks over to the window talking to himself.
"What kind of critter are you? A Rogue? The guards are supposed to keep Rogues out of the village."
Cautiously he points the briskly end of the broom at Pounce in a defensive stance. At the same time he looks past his drooping snout to study the feline.
Craze
From his arial view Craze can tell that the majority of activity in the village is presently in the northeast. So he goes there. Craze finds a number of stalls set up where Serviles are exchanging goods and coins like those that he and Pounce had found. He notes that there are bronze coins, silver coins, and gold coins. He also sees ... and smells ... one stall has some shiny rock candy. The candy comes in variety of colors and when the light hits it just right, reflects quite nicely.

If Craze wants to look for less obvious, at a glance, thing in his environment you may make a Perception check. If you have Investigate and want to perform a detailed and thorough search you may make an Investigate check.
If Chips and Meat Shield intend to remain silent bodyguards, I'll summarize the conversation between Shaper D'Tan and Brodus Blade in my next post.

The Mind

The mind, for it's part, tries its best to keep itself hidden as it parses through the village, following the echoing thoughts of Serviles all around it. Its... distracting. Hard to focus. It spends so much time observing the village, it forgets to actually look at the people themselves.

While your Shaper remains audibly silent, he does comment on Meat Shield's questions and observations over Mind's mental link.
"There is no law against Creations learning to read. It is uncommon. Most Shapers do not want Creations to have that skill. There are some tasks that require literacy, so it is allowed when warranted. "
... then later, after Meat Shield points out the bird, D'Tan responds while keeping their gaze level. Not looking towards the subject of Meat Shield's concern.
"We cannot stop the spread of information about our movements. But we may be able to slow it. What are your thoughts on the matter Mind?"
Mind
Mind doesn't discover anything that the others haven't but their attempt to hide while observing the village and it's occupants does draw attention from some of the armed Serviles. One of them moves to follow Mind as they scout out Vakkiri. The Servile's shadowing of Mind are overt, no effort is made to conceal the fact that they are following and keeping an eye on them.

Brodus Blade is physically formidable and is older than your Shaper, but D'Tan's force of personality and presence fills the dining hall. Over shadowing everyone in it. It is also D'Tan that ends up leading the conversation. He asks questions about Sucia island and it's occupants. The Servile talks about Awakened philosophy and how they see themselves as independent people equal to the Shapers. There is talk of abandonment by the Shapers, and the Serviles having earned their freedom.
The Servile warrior talks of a faction of Serviles to the far east called the Takers what Brodus Blade warns your Shaper to stay away from, as they are likely to keep to harm him. He also tells D'Tan about the Obeyers,
a group that still seek to serve the Shapers. Lastly he suggests that D'Tan visit the Awakened stronghold to the east, where their leader dwells. Some things about the Serviles Brudos does not share. Other topics he does not know answers to.
When asked about the island's past and the Shapers that resided here, Brudos Blade gives D'Tan directions to the dwelling of someone named Learned Pinner. Brodus Blade informs your Shaper that there are Servile bandits to the north that are causing Vakkiri trouble and that there are rogues cutting them off from settlements to the east.
By the end of the encounter Chips and Meat Shield feel as though there are some social subtleties to the conversation that they haven't quite picked up on.

It was a place bustling with creatures and trinkets to explore. While he was supposed to be properly exploring the city, Craze had other motives in mind. Mischief and shiny things. He did the usual fly arounds eyeing the guards and various creations without a creator. If they could survive without a Shaper, could he? The thought did cross his mind, but he dismissed it. He had D'Tan.
When the object he had been craving crossed his line of sight, Craze shook with so much excitement he nearly fell out of the air. In various places, creatures were exchanging coins for objects, a strange custom. It must be their use to get supplies maybe? Craze wasn't going to be parting with any of his hard won coins though. As he got on a perch ready to do a fly by and grab some of the shiny candy, the message of the bird flying off with a message came across the mental link. Mind didn't give any clear instruction, so Craze kept his gaze on the sweet shinies.
Waiting for an opening, he took off from his high perch and making a solid dash to the stall. Hmm sweet shinies. Must get some., came over the link to everyone. When presented with the object of his desire his mental control wasn't that great. As he got closer to the stall, he timed his approach to when the path would be clear to go in, grab two talons full of shiny rock candy, and get out to some perch away from the area that was sort of hidden.

His stealth is +12 and sleight of hand is +3 if either are needed.

This is simply the way things are. 'I may instead be able to gleam information from the Servile who released this bird. Understand to whom it is informing. Carefully.'
Resting upon an awning, it considered the matter of the far-flung bird. Craze, a fellow avian, might be able to pursue without drawing attention. 'Craze. Pursue the avian.'
It waited for a response from the bird.
"Craze. Status report."

Craze
Crazes dives out of the sky, a black bolt of feathers and talons. The market is open air. There is no cover to hide behind, so Craze's approach isn't subtle. But he has speed and surprise on his side. Talons forward he strikes before the candy merchant can react and is off into the air again. Turning away from the market he rounds a corner and heads for the trees.
Behind him there is shouting of 'Rogue attack!' and 'Thief!'. The commotion grows as word spreads beyond the market. Guards react to the shouting and soon two guard with a javelin drawn finds Craze with two sweet shininess in his talons. One of them is poised to strike, while the other speaks up.
"Wait, isn't that one of the Creations that came with the Shaper?"
The other guard paused. Then shrugged. The first looked back to Craze, raising his voice now.
"You came with the Shaper, right? You can't go around taking other people's things. That's stealing. You need to give it back or pay for it."
Pounce
Nothing here felt like what Pounce had sensed in the hidden room at the old Shaper building where Mind Tavik resided. There were fumes in coming from whatever the Servile was making. It smelled back and burned her sensitive nose a little.
The Servile shoved his broom at Pounce a couple times when she hissed. He made no move to follow after her, but remained at his room until it was certain she wasn't coming back.
Pounce followed the smells that had caught her attention earlier and headed east. As she gets closer she is able to differentiate between them. There are food smells. Ornk. Plants. Berries. There are also metal smells and an assortment of fresh new scent she has not experienced before. Soon Pounce enters an open square where Serviles standing at small wooden structures laden with goods are exchanging various items for small metal coins like the ones she and Craze have found. There is some shouting from a couple Serviles. 'Rogue' and 'Thief'. Guards can be seen running off to the South, towards some trees.
Chips and Meat Shield
The conversation between Shaper D'Tan and Brodus Blade doesn't last much longer. Soon your Shaper leaves the dining hall, and the Servile barracks altogether. Back on the street he looks around, his eyes falling on a Servile child that was tending to a herd of Orns at the edge of the village. It is at that point that he responds to Mind's suggestion that they pry into the thoughts of the Servile who sent the pigeon flying.
"Do so, but be careful. These Serviles may talk, but they're Rogues. Just like the Fyora we encountered in the woods."
"I've finished speaking with Brudos Blade and will be headed ..."
There is a pause as he provides directions to the building where Meat Shield spotted a Servile elder holding a book.
"... A Learned Pinner lives there. She is said to know something about the island's history and the Shapers who lived here."
Crazes dives out of the sky, a black bolt of feathers and talons. The market is open air. There is no cover to hide behind, so Craze's approach isn't subtle. But he has speed and surprise on his side. Talons forward he strikes before the candy merchant can react and is off into the air again. Turning away from the market he rounds a corner and heads for the trees.
Behind him there is shouting of 'Rogue attack!' and 'Thief!'. The commotion grows as word spreads beyond the market. Guards react to the shouting and soon two guard with a javelin drawn finds Craze with two sweet shininess in his talons. One of them is poised to strike, while the other speaks up.
"Wait, isn't that one of the Creations that came with the Shaper?"
The other guard paused. Then shrugged. The first looked back to Craze, raising his voice now.
"You came with the Shaper, right? You can't go around taking other people's things. That's stealing. You need to give it back or pay for it."
OOC wrote:Dive bombing someone's stall is going to be an Attack roll as the merchant tries to defend their wares from being nabbed. There isn't any cover in the air, so your approach isn't sneaky. After the hit and run you can make a Stealth roll to hide. Since Craze's Complication is coming into play, I'm going to say he's using his talons to try to get two handfuls rather than a one mouthful with his beak. Meaning he won't benefit from the bonuses his gets when using his beak.
As an aside, take a look at your sheet. I think Craze's Attack when using his Iron Beak is 7, not 9. You may also want to edit Craze's Equipment. He used the Healing Spores and gained a Bronze Coin from Pounce. He might have more than two total. Keep track of those things.
Back to the candy grab. Craze managed to get 2 pieces of Rock Candy. One in each set of talons. But a Servile Guard spots Craze's hiding place. He is also going to miss out on the opportunity to chase after the carried pigeon. You get 1 HP for playing into Craze's Complication.
I'm also going to make a special rule for Craze. He can use (eat) Rock Candy to counter negative Conditions with a morale based Descriptor. He loses a shiny in eating one, but gets a mood boost. Make a note of that somewhere on his sheet.

Nothing here felt like what Pounce had sensed in the hidden room at the old Shaper building where Mind Tavik resided. There were fumes in coming from whatever the Servile was making. It smelled back and burned her sensitive nose a little.

He knew what Rogues were. He didn't think he was one of them, after all he had a Shaper. Thief though, that was a new term he'd hadn't heard before. D'Tan had taught him some things, but thief wasn't one of them. I took two tasty shiny rocks from a box and now two guards are telling me I am a thief and a rogue and that I stole something while pointing weapons at me. I need to pay, whatever that is, to keep them, sends Craze to Mind over the link looping in the others as well in his confusion. The whole concept of stealing and paying was just too foreign to him and his mind was solely on keeping the rock candies. If he was to keep them, what would he pay with and how? Was it that exchange thing?

Is paying where I give him something for these? How do I pay?", inquired Craze. Yhere was no use fighting or running away. It was interesting that these Servile creatures seemed to have developed a similar attachment to the concept of 'payment'. With that, came the realization that it understood what the beings accosting Craze desired. 'They have a desire for the coins you have collected. It forcibly halted itself, straining against the urge to elaborate further and further in a way wholly unbeneficial to Craze. 'Ask the Serviles how many coins your 'Shiny Rocks' are considered to be worth. You are then required to give them these coins, and they will no longer accuse you of thievery.'
Curious though it may have been as to the social developments of these sapient rogues and their mimicry of Shaper Society, it had a task to complete. With Craze's occupation, there was no chance to halt the other avian. As a result, it fell upon itself to identify whatever it could of the lost message.
