Real Name: Rick Williams
Aliases: Transformer
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 157 lbs
Hair: Brown (glow blue-white when using powers)
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Fame: The Vanguard are well known across the United States.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Reputation: Shift operated as a solo hero, Transformer, before joining the Vanguard, but he was known for being overly destructive in the usage of his powers. He has never returned to that identity and becomes irritated if pressed about it.

Background: When Rick Williams learned he could manipulate matter (repairing broken objects, melting walls, or outright reshaping objects from other materials present), he wasted no time in trying to become a hero known as Transformer. Unfortunately, his powers required more understanding than he realized or possessed, and Rick ended up creating more problems and damages than he solved or stopped in his crime fighting efforts. This brought him to the attention of the American Government and led to his membership in the Vanguard.

There Rick was able to learn the ins and outs of his powers under the supervision and guidance of people who understood the fields of science that governed his powers and he developed a finer level of control over them. Joining the Vanguard as a full time member, under the name Shift, Rick was extremely happy to be a productive member of the team and became the second in command of the team after the founding members all left.

After years of leading the team Rick quietly retired to start a family of his own, having several children with an assortment of future ex-wives Rick would eventually find himself longing for his "glory days" when fate decided to give him a break - the immoral, immortal wizard Ahriman was accidentally freed from the prison the Magi had locked him away in and had resumed his efforts to take over the world. Stopping him, and his servants, required not only the current membership of the Vanguard but also the majority of their retired members, which included Rick.

Rick worked well in the expanded Vanguard that members of the government were debating about making him part of the Vanguard Academy in a teaching position. Unfortunately, those ideas were put on hold when most of the assembled heroes were killed in the backlash of pent up mystical energy that Ahriman had been channeling into a ritual he would use to disable technology all around the world, that violently released because it had been left unregulated.

Real Name: Jody Francisco
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 132 lbs
Hair: Brown
Eye Color: Hazel

Complications:
Fame: The Vanguard are well known across the United States.

Power Loss: If her powers are nullified, Aquatica’s stats drop to Strength 2, Stamina 2, Agility 0, Dexterity 0, Fighting 2.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Weakness: Aquatica dehydrates when away from water for an extended time, becoming Impaired, Disabled, and finally Incapacitated before her condition becomes Dying. Immersion in water immediately removes all accumulated conditions.

Background: Jody Francisco was training to be an Olympic swimmer when an analysis of her blood showed that she was doing Erythrocythemia (also known as blood doping), an illegal form of performance enhancing in which a person injects themselves with their own blood, increasing their red blood cells, endurance, and oxygen capacity. Despite Jody’s protests that she did no such thing, this ended her career as a professional swimmer but brought her to the attention of the American Government. They performed more in-depth genetic testing and discovered that Jody was manifesting her Alpha abilities and made her a part of the Vanguard’s growing junior membership that was being trained in the use of their powers.

While she enjoyed being a junior member of the Vanguard, finding comfort within the group who understood her struggles because of her status as an Alpha, Jody remained closed off from her peers as she was more of a reserved and quiet young woman. None the less, she learned a great deal as part of the Vanguard, and she was a silent supporter of Alpha rights during the early years of their discovery. During her membership Jody learned of her relation to the supervillain the Mariner, she is his second cousin, a fact she kept to herself but drove herself to be more active as a hero because of that relation.

She would eventually retire years later when she had grown tired of the bureaucracy that governed the Vanguard’s operations, feeling that the government could allow them more freedom in how the group handled the situations they found themselves facing. Jody would become an even more public figure as a political activist, working to improve Alpha rights. She would also become a published author, writing a book about her time in the Vanguard and her experiences as an Alpha during the first decade they rose to prominence.

Despite her public criticism of the Vanguard, when they called upon her to help them combat the threat posed by the corrupted wizard Ahriman and his Daevas, Jody joined their efforts. While the assembled heroes were successful in stopping Ahriman, Jody was among those killed by the violent discharge of accumulated magical energy he had been channeling for his intended ritual.

Hold on...if Aquatica's powers are neutralized her stats drop to...the same level they're at when fully powered? I think somewhere there has been an error in transcription.

Whoops, editing error. I wrote that in there that way I wouldn't have to keep scrolling up & down the build to reference her powered stats & forgot (somehow) to actually write down the Attribute drop.

Thanks for pointing that out HH.

Off to edit now.....

Real Name: Shannon MacDonald
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 129 lbs
Hair: Blonde
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Relationship: Firebird has been in an on-again/off-again romance with her teammate Propulsion for a few years and the two have recently married.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Power Loss: Firebird’s powers won’t work in an environment that doesn’t allow an open flame to exist (underwater/outer space). Furthermore if an area has been doused in water or some other fire retardant substance then Firebird’s powers are Impaired.

Background: The daughter of Helios the Sun King, an early criminal Alpha, Shannon MacDonald was raised by her adoptive parents who gave her a stable, loving family life in Upstate New York. When she was thirteen years old Shannon’s powers began to manifest until the string of odd, fire-based occurrences, caught the attention of the recruiters of the Vanguard Academy. It was there that her familial connection to Helios was discovered and she was introduced to her first love, Alex Chevalier a fellow student of the Academy.

Along with the other members of her class, Junction, Propulsion, and Ferine (who later became Scaleface), Shannon developed control over her powers and how to use them to defend herself and others from those who might attack her. Along the way she became one of the more popular members of her generation’s Vanguard; possessed of nearly unlimited ability to channel solar energy, Firebird was as famous for her good looks as she was for her heroic deeds.

For several years Shannon and Alex dated with varying levels of seriousness, but things took a turn when they were kidnapped by Ghostworks and placed in a virtual reality program where they were married with children and retired from heroics. Eventually the pair realized their situation and managed to free themselves from captivity. In the aftermath Shannon and Alex realized just how much they cared for one another and decided to get married for real.

The couple faced problems early in their marriage - namely Alex's becoming involved with (i.e. boinking like rabbits) with their teammate Neuropath until confronted by Shannon. In the end the two could not make things work out between them and they divorced. Unable to handle her ex-husband’s carrying on with his new girlfriend, Shannon quietly left the Vanguard.

Having no real other emotional connections her life combined with the failure of her marriage, Shannon fell into a deep depression and alcoholism. After living that lifestyle for several years Shannon discovered she was pregnant but had no clue who the father was, none the less she decided to put her life back together for her child and stopped drinking with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. Nine months later she gave birth to a little girl she named Autumn who she gave custody of to friends she had made in AA, citing that she still needed to get her life together before she could be responsible for raising another person.

What happened to Shannon after that isn’t known as she completely disappeared and has never returned to the public eye, even when members of the Vanguard reached out to all retired members to help fight against Ahriman and his Daevas.

Real Name: Alex Chevalier
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 201 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Fame: All members of the Vanguard are well known across the United States.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Relationship: Propulsion had an on-again/off-again romance with fellow teammate Firebird for years.

Reputation: Among his iteration of the Vanguard, Propulsion is considered to be something of an asshole.

Background: Alex Chevalier was a member of the third incarnation of the Vanguard, part of a group of young Alphas who were taken in by the team and taught to control and use their powers as when Alex's manifested, he was launching random objects from his surroundings at ballistic speeds.

As part of the Vanguards training program, Alex choose the code name Propulsion and took to the training he was given like a natural; he did so well in fact that he was named field leader of the group. It was there that he met Shannon MacDonald, a fellow member of the training program, who he would spend years in an on-again/off-again relationship.

For several years Alex and Shannon dated with varying levels of seriousness, but things took a turn when they were kidnapped by Ghostworks and placed in a virtual reality program where they were married with children and retired from heroics. Eventually the pair realized their situation and managed to free themselves from captivity. In the aftermath Alex and Shannon realized just how much they cared for one another and decided to get married for real. The couple faced problems early in their marriage - namely Alex's becoming involved with (i.e. boinking like rabbits) with their teammate Neuropath until he was confronted by Shannon. In the end the two could not make things work out between them and they divorced. Unable to handle her ex-husband’s carrying on with his new girlfriend, Shannon quietly left the Vanguard.

Feeling the sting of that loss Alex tried throwing himself completely into his relationship with Neuropath only for her to end their budding romance when she discovered that her empathic powers had latched onto the feelings that Firebird had for her husband and left both Alex and the team as well. Heartbroken by the entire ordeal all Alex had left was his work with the Vanguard, and the teammates who were angry at him at driving away almost half of the team within a months’ time. Thus, with virtually nothing left for him in the Vanguard organization Alex retired from active duty and decided to travel abroad in an effort to distract him from the heartbreak he felt.

Even though he had left the Vanguard Alex never stopped being a hero; anywhere he ran afoul of those committing crimes he did not hesitate to use his abilities to stop them. For a while he acted as a hard traveling hero, not wearing a costume (and even then, barely a mask), and never forming especially close bonds with those he helped. None the less, Alex Chevalier proved he was a hero dozens of times over and had begun drawing the attention of those in the military in charge of managing the Vanguard and they were considering trying to recruit him back into the group.

Unfortunately, the corrupt wizard Ahriman was freed from the mystical prison he had been locked away in centuries before, and he was still driven to continue his efforts to take control of the world. To help him achieve his goals, Ahriman empowered a few select individuals to serve as his Daevas (or rather his lieutenants) and sent them across the globe seeking out certain mystical artifacts he would need to cast the ritual he designed to make him the most powerful being in the world and able to rule it as he saw fit. Alex was among the first of the retired members of the Vanguard to be recruited back into active duty; seeing it as a chance to change some of the public’s perception of him following the dissolution of his marriage Alex accepted. His experience as a leader was a boon to the Vanguard and their injuries were much less severe than they could have been during the weeklong ongoing conflict between the Vanguard and the Daevas.

It was during the final fight on Ahriman’s island base that Alex really made an impact by using his powers to limit the mobility of the Daevas, allowing his allies to gain an upper hand until Mortis snuck up behind him and used her Necrotic powers to kill him.

Real Name: Sarah Bradley
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 124 lbs
Hair: Brown
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Fame: All the members of the Vanguard are well known across the United States.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Power Burn-Out: From time to time Junction will push her powers too much and will have to spend some time recovering before she can use her Junction Array abilities again.

Background: Sarah Bradley decided to become a doctor at the age of ten when her father died of a heart attack and she was unable to do anything to help him. At some point between then and when Sarah turned eighteen, she manifested her Alpha ability of teleportation but had kept it a secret and never really developed in, choosing to focus on her goal.

Thus, when the Vanguard tried recruiting her later that year (shortly after she had used her powers to evacuate patients from an attempted hostage situation), Sarah had no interest in becoming a “superhero on the government’s payroll” and declined the offer. However, a few years later Sarah was targeted by S.H.E.I.L.D. after they discovered her Alpha status, and she was forced to join the Vanguard to survive and develop her powers.

The first year was challenging to say the least as Sarah was angry about the situation that had forced out of the profession she had spent the majority of her young life pursing and she was antagonistic towards her fellow trainees. It was over the course of the following year, where Sarah witnessed how not only the other Vanguard trainees, but also the full members of the Vanguard, always sought to protect the general public from the threats they faced despite the additional threat it leveled against them for those altruistic efforts, that her attitude slowly shifted, and she became less resentful of what had happened to her and began building relationships with the other members of the Vanguard.

After only a few years Sarah was the first of member of her incarnation of the Vanguard to retire, citing a need to return to the life she had originally intended for herself – that of a doctor. She was able to get a medical degree and achieve her lifelong dream, eventually settling down and having a family (her son, Curtis, would later go on to join the Vanguard as Offramp) and building a career.

That all came to an end when Sarah was called back into active duty to help the Vanguard combat the corrupted wizard Ahriman, who had spent centuries locked away in a mystical prison built by the Magi in ancient times and was accidentally freed and resumed his efforts to take over the world. Sarah’s powers were vital in the Vanguard’s efforts – allowing for mass, near instant travel across the country that allowed the heroes to confront Ahriman and his Daevas wherever they appeared. Unfortunately, Sarah was among those on the island Ahriman raised off the coast of California to serve as his base of operations and was killed by the magical energies that went unrestrained with Ahriman’s defeat.

Artist is unknown, but if anyone is aware of who this belongs to let me know so I can give credit.

Real Name: Scott Sydney
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 166 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue
Unusual Features: Elven-like ears

Complications:
Fame: All members of the Vanguard are well known across the United States.

Power Loss: Without water to manipulate, Torrent cannot use his Hydrokinesis Array.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Background: Scott Sydney was among those kidnapped by Dr. Aqua to use as test subjects for his experiments to create mer-people, with Scott being among those successfully transformed. However, after the Vanguard had defeated Dr. Aqua and freed his captives Scott wanted no part of any efforts to “cure” him of what had been done to him. Instead, he petitioned the Vanguard for membership to use the powers he’d developed to help others as they had helped him. After several months of training in the use of his powers Scott became a full member of the Vanguard using the name Torrent.

Over the following years he fought against various Alpha threats, from the Children of Quetzalcoatl, the Horsemen, Mood Ring, Dr. Prometheus, Patchwork Man, El Conquistador to name a few. Despite the odds the team faced, Scott never worried about if the Vanguard was going to win and always presented a self-assured attitude, always had a snappy comeback or one liner to throw out with a smile on his face as Scott grew to love being part of the Vanguard. Nevertheless, there came a time where he wanted more in his than his membership could provide and like so many others before him Scott left the Vanguard to focus more on his personal life.

Several years later the corrupt wizard Ahriman escaped from his ancient prison and resumed his efforts to take over the world, empowering a select few to act as his agents, his Daevas, and aid him in that endeavor. They were the most powerful foes the Vanguard had ever faced and possessed a conviction and dedication of zealots that made them difficult to beat. With the odds stacked against the Vanguard so badly they decided to call upon all able-bodied retired members to active duty.

Over the span of a week the expanded Vanguard fought Ahriman and his Daevas several times, often times were unable to prevent the villains from achieving their goals and the Vanguard were forced to confront their foes on the island Ahriman had raised off the coast of California. There a massive battle was fought between the two forces that ended when the heroes were able to disrupt the massive ritual Ahriman was casting. Unfortunately, the magical energies he had conjured into being still needed to be released but without a force of will to guide and control it those energies explosively released – killing all who were present on the island, including Torrent, in what was later named the Ahriman Wave.

Artist unknown, if anyone does know the party responsible let me know so I can give credit.

Real Name: Leonard “Leo” Kelley
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 277 lbs
Hair: Green
Eye Color: Dark Green
Unusual Features: green skin, cloven legs, fur covering parts of body, scales covering parts of body, webbed hands

Complications:
Disabled: Scaleface has a childlike intelligence.

Fame: All members of the Vanguard as well known across the United States.

Inhuman: Experiments done to Scaleface by Ghostworks have left him physically unable to pass as a normal person.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Relationships: Scaleface is friends with all the other members of his generation’s Vanguard.

Temper: Scaleface sometimes has trouble controlling his emotions, and will often lash out violently.

Background: Leo Kelley was born and lived most of his life in Perigord, Oregon, a small town where not much interesting usually happened. That is until Leo manifested his Alpha abilities while on a date and a local bully tried to take his date away from him. When Leo tried to put up a fight the bully and his crew proceeded to beat him up, which triggered Leo’s manifestation; simian physiology (which included superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, agility, flexibility, dexterity, coordination, balance, and endurance). Leo wasted no time in taking advantage of those abilities to fight off his attackers, but that causes local people to come looking for him in the form of an angry mob. The local sheriff had no choice but to put Leo in jail for his own "protection" and the news coverage of the incident brought Leo’s plight to the attention of the Vanguard.

Dispatching members to Perigord to recruit Leo into their training program, the Vanguard found themselves facing off not only against the outraged townspeople but members of S.H.E.I.L.D., who had also learned about Leo for the news and had dispatched agents to deal with him. When the two groups met it instantly turned into a violent conflict, but the Vanguard were able to handle the agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. and convince the Kelley family to allow Leo to join the Vanguard training program.

A few years later, after several adventures with his fellow junior Vanguard members, Leo was made a full-fledged member of the Vanguard. It was around this time that Ghostworks started to become more active in the public eye, and thanks to their agent (at that point in time) Neuropath they captured Leo and subjected him to numerous tests and experiments to better understand how Alpha powers work. Something that the Ghostworks’ scientists did caused Leo to undergo a secondary manifestation of his Alpha abilities – this time instead of manifesting one aspect of animal-like physiology Leo manifested several! Now showing traits of lizards, amphibians, and equines, with green, scaly skin, cloven feet, webbed hands and tuffs of green fur. Another unexpected side effect was a serious loss of intellect, while Leo was never a straight A student by any means his second manifestation left him with a childlike intelligence.

Luckily, his friends and teammates were able to find and recover Leo before Ghostworks were able to do any more harm to him or use him as a tool to further their goals. However, with his reduced intellect Leo now required monitoring else he may accidentally hurt someone. Unfortunately, Leo never recovered from the changes Ghostworks inflicted upon him and as his friends left active duty he was given a sizeable stipend to cover his costs of living in a private home with a government trained caregiver in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Years later, the Vanguard came into conflict with an ancient wizard named Ahriman who sought to take over the world. He nearly succeeded in his effort, but the Vanguard called upon all retired members to oppose Ahriman and were able to stop him. Although, the cost of that victory was that all of the heroes who gathered on the island Ahriman had raised off the coast of California died in the backlash of magical energies that Ahriman had been channeling and were left unchecked; Leo inluded.

Real Name: Penny
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 132 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Hazel

Complications:
Fame: All members of the Vanguard are well known across the United States.

Feelings Are Complicated: From time to time Neuropath’s empathic power causes her to become overwhelmed by intense emotions of those around her, thus causing her to mimic the strongest of them.

Identity: Ghostworks wiped Neuropath’s memories so she has no idea what her real name is or anything about her past. This bothers her periodically.

Power Loss: If Neuropath’s Combat Computer and other Neuro-tech implants are nullified or somehow removed then she loses all her powers except Aura Reading and her Abilities drop to Strength 0, Stamina 1, Agility 0, Dexterity 0, Fighting 1, & Intellect 0.

Prejudice: Alpha.

Background: Another victim of Ghostworks, Neuropath was one of their more heavily invested projects. They took a young psychic girl and subjected her to several surgeries that implanted nanotech robots that allowed the girl to assess any given situation tactically and then execute what needed to be to resolve it in her favor. This process took years, as scientists constantly were upgrading the nanotech and putting them into the girl’s body (where they would reprogram & upgrade the nanotech already inside her) and then testing her new limits.

There were a few unforeseen byproducts of the nanotech being introduced into the girl’s body – firstly it vastly improved her overall health and physical abilities until she was in the upper 3% of what was humanly possible. Secondly her psionic powers were focused in a way that hadn’t been expected – as either a sword composed of psionic energy that can leave a victim unconscious or a focused telekinetic weapon capable of slicing through most materials.

Eventually Neuropath was deemed ready for service and was sent against the Vanguard and for a few years she fought them several times but during that time something about the constant use of her powers slowly undid the mental conditioning Ghostworks had done to her. Finally thinking for herself, Neuropath slipped away in the middle of the night, wandering across the United States trying to finish undoing the brainwashing while hiding from hunter teams sent to bring her back in. It was during a very public fight with one of those teams that the Vanguard found her and tentatively brought her back to their home base where government scientists managed to undue the remaining bits of Ghostworks’ brainwashing.

After that Neuropath became a member of the Vanguard as part of a deal she’d made with the government to atone for her past misdeeds as an agent of Ghostworks, though she did cause some strife on the team when her sexual relationship with Propulsion, who was married to fellow teammate Firebird, was discovered. Needless to say, things were strained between the two women as well as the rest of the team as a result, until Firebird retired from the team. A few weeks later Neuropath discovered that her romance with Propulsion were because her empathic powers had latched onto the feelings that Firebird had for him. Heartbroken over the discovery, she ended her romance with him and left the team as well never to be heard from again.

Her final fate remains a mystery to this day.

Real Name: Shane Garfield
Height: 5’10”
Weight: Unknown
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Legacy: MMI is the grandson of the hero Shift and the villainess Multitude.

Motivation ~Greed: MMI commits crimes to make large amounts of money.

Prejudice: Alpha criminal.

Background: The grandson of Rick Williams, former member of the second generation of the Vanguard known as Shift, and the son of the villainess Multitude, Shane Garfield knew there was a good chance he’d manifest one of their abilities. How he manifested his own abilities isn’t a story Shane has ever shared, but his choice to use them as a criminal isn’t all that surprising given the fact that Shane has always been something of a problem child growing up.

Calling himself MMI, Shane has made a career out of hiring himself out to other criminals as super-muscle for hire and he has worked with several criminals and fought against almost every active hero of the time. Shane shows no remorse for his crimes and no intention of changing his ways.

Real Name: Kaylee Garfield
Height: 5’3”
Weight: 125 lbs
Hair: Blonde (dyed, really Brown)
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Motivation ~Greed: Multitude wants large amounts of money, and is willing to break the law to get it any way she can.

Prejudice: Alpha criminal.

Background: Kaylee Garfield manifested her powers at the age of fifteen, when she was lost for almost a day during a church camping trip, sending out over a dozen duplicates of herself to find her way back to the church group. Quickly realizing how she could use her power to her own advantage, Kaylee quietly practiced with her powers until she could control them fully then she set to orchestrating scenarios where her being able to be in more than one place at once was beneficial to her (such as robbing convenience stores while she was in school).

Somewhere along the way Kaylee discovered the world of corporate espionage and found that her powers gave her an edge over her peers. At one point she was hired by people at Noxxor Industries to steal the blueprints for a new energy generator being developed by Odyssey Technologies. While she was able to break in and get the blueprints, Kaylee ran afoul of members of the Vanguard while making her way out which led to a fight between her and the heroes. Despite being “outnumbered”, Kaylee held her own against the larger numbers against her and escapes with the blueprints.

That became her calling card – her “prime” escaping while her duplicates held off heroes trying to apprehend her and Multitude (as she came to be known to the general public) never saw the inside of New Alcatraz. After almost a decade of criminal exploits Multitude vanished from the super criminal community, apparently retiring.

Real Name: Simon Simmons
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 191 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
My Highway To Hell: Luciferian knows that in 2008 he will be trapped in a dimensional prison, and has taken steps to arrange being freed by his illegitimate children.

Motivation ~Knowledge: Luciferian wants to increase his mystical knowledge no matter what the cost.

Prejudice: Alpha criminal.

Background: In the fall of 1970 Simon Simmons, his girlfriend Elizabeth “Liz” Williams, and their friends Ellen Baker, Rick Delrich, Theresa Scott, and Bob Campbell vacation at an isolated cabin in rural Arkansas. Over the following nights all of the vacationers experience minor supernatural incidents but say nothing to one another, attributing the episodes to a mixture of inebriation and unfamiliar surroundings.

On the third night the group discovers a cellar trapdoor hidden in the kitchen and decide to investigate, finding a recording and diary belonging to the cabin’s previous owner, archaeologist Curt Holden. The group listens to the recording as Simon reads the diary, which details the possession and eventual death of Holden’s wife Dana. The recording contained an incantation that inadvertently resurrects the demonic entity that had possessed Dana Holden, and it begins corrupting the surrounding area as it tries to take one of the vacationers as a new host.

Liz ends up becoming the host of the demon and begins terrorizing Simon and the others, killing Ellen, Rick, Theresa and Bob over the following day despite their efforts to try and get the demon out of her. Left alone, Simon, who had continued to read Holden’s diary, learned that the possessed, and their victims, can only be "purified" either by live burial, bodily dismemberment, or burning. Outside the cabin he set to dismembering the bodies of his friends, intending on burying the remains, only for Ellen, Rick, Theresa, and Bob to reanimate and attack him and he decapitates some of them with a shovel while the rest he doses in gasoline and sets on fire.

Back inside, Simon discovers that Liz has escaped the cellar, eluding Simon for a while, culminating in her attempting to kill him and during the struggle he inadvertently knocks the diary into the fireplace. While the book burns Liz freeze in place, then begins to rapidly decompose before exploding as the demon is purged from her body, covering Simon in blood. As dawn breaks, Simon stumbles his way out of the cabin the only survivor of the ordeal.

Haunted by the experience, Simon begins traveling around the world researching everything he can about demons until he becomes an expert on the matter. During his travels Simon discovers that Liz’s soul has been condemned to hell because of the corruption done to it because of the possession. Unable to accept his deceased lover’s fate, Simon decides to find a way to free her no matter what he has to do. Realizing he would need a large amount of personal power to achieve his goal but not enough time to learn the secrets of magic Simon chooses to utilize a Sumerian ritual that captures the essence of a demon inside a precious gem, called a Soulstone.

After creating four Soulstones, Simon set to his main goal of freeing Liz’s soul from Hell. Becoming known as the villain, the Luciferian, his efforts are routinely routed by various mystically skilled heroes; the moral necromancer known as Graves, the first Blackstone, and several bearers of the title of the Aurelius. Despite those setbacks Simon refuses to give up, even when one of his divinations show that several years down the line, he will end up imprisoned in a pocket dimension of Hell. Realizing that he needs to be able to free himself, Simon devises a long-term plan he hopes will allow him to regain his freedom - it involved him fathering several children by different mothers, chosen through divination and the conception was performed under ritualistic means to ensure that the children would possess abilities that would be useful to his plan. The Luciferian would periodically check in on them, developing a personal relationship with all of his children, also making sure to influence them to develop an interest in the occult, ensuring that they would have the skills that would be useful to him years later.

Now it has been over a decade since he was imprisoned, and Luciferian is still waiting on his children (better known to the public as the Seven) to free him and he is now forced to wonder if he has made a mistake in his plans.
