No Expertise (Musician)? Eh, then again, he plays country music, so I guess it's not needed.
Ah, I should fix that. I was mostly laying out a template since I've never watched more than the first episode.

Quicksilver (as in the Silverhawks') wasn't a Captain, he was a Lieutenant.

Although it was "mildly military" as heck, I think - Bluegrass' a Colonel, Stargazer's a Commander, the Steel Twins were both Sergeants and the rest (Copper Kidd and the new guys added late in the series)... no mention of what rank they have, ever (PFC? Heck if I know). Chain of command was pretty much only Quicksilver calling tactics and Stargazer as the mission giver/"you don't want me mad at you" guy and the occasional mention of whatever was their central command on Earth sending a message.

Funny thing that Stargazer was from Chicago and the Mon*Star guys were afraid of the criminals over there. No, seriously. The one mention of Earth by them is that they don't like the idea of messing with the Chicago underworld.

That was pretty much my line of thought on the stats of the MASK characters. Personally, I'd make the Masks & vehicles Devices.
Im dead postitive ive seen a full run of Mask characters here i just cant recall which thread

-The Copper Kidd is the dead giveaway that this was by the people behind ThunderCats- he was a tiny, big-headed kid with cat-like eyes and eyemarks, just like the ThunderCats. He was an alien from the "Planet of Mimes", and speaks only in tones and whistles. Despite that, he is a mathematical genius. He uses razor-edged flying dics as weapons which can deflect and bounce around. He was also trained as a back-up pilot.

Strange- Wikipedia lists him as a Captain; the ThunderCats Wiki (which SilverHawks shares) calls him a Lieutenant.

A mysterious energy "chose" him and empowered him to fight against evil, but he has to recharge them every 14 years, or he will die- when a villain tricks the mystic force into giving HIM the powers instead, Hotwing has to win them back or die.

-Every '80s show needed a Big Bad, and SilverHawks had the distinctly-named, furry menace "Mon*Star"- a Mob Boss who had escaped to Limbo on Sky-Runner, his giant squid ship, and gathered a mob of weirdos to his side. Like Mumm-Ra from the sister show ThunderCats, he's a bestial-looking monster who can transform into a more powerful form via the "Moon*Star", which bathes him in its energies and gives him armor and jets. He has a weapon that can also Blast, ensnare, or hypnotise opponents.

-Like every cartoon of the era, the main villain has an assortment of flunkies, most of which are incompetent. Apparently a recurring element is that the boss punishes them for their failures, but they're always seen in the next episode.

Mon*Star's Mob:

Image

MUMBO JUMBO- PL 8 (93): ST +4, STA +4, INT -1, AWA -1, PRE -2, Horns +2, Morph 1 (Bull- Metamorph) [16]
-A dumb muscle type who can transform into a more muscular Bull form.

Image

BUZZ-SAW- PL 8 (118): ST +4, No STA Score -9, Protection 7, Immunity (Fort. Effects), "Shoot Saws" Blast 6 (Split), "Buzzsaws" Strength-Damage +2 (Multiattack 6) [41]
-A Kill-O-Bot with buzzsaws that naturally never hit any major character.

Image

MELODIA- PL 7 (94): INT +1, AWA +3, PRE +3, Equipment 3 (Keytar- Blast 6) [17]
-A green-haired character like something out of the Misfits in Jem & The Holograms. She's also the "Starscream"- she has turned on Mon*Star twice- once joining the casino boss Poker-Face, and then with Yes-Man.

WINDHAMMER- PL 8 (94): "Tuning Fork" (Easily Removable; "Space Blizzard" Ranged Paralysis 8, "Space Cyclone" Snare 8, "Galactic Whirlwind" Ranged Cone Area Damage 8, "Galactic Storms" Blast 8, "Yellow Lightning" Platform Flight 7) [17]
-The most distinctive of the Mob, Windhammer has a wicked attack pattern where he hammers his giant Tuning Fork against something, powering it up for a variety of effects- Snares, Freezing & even Flight. He is the most loyal of Mon*Star's men, actually respecting the boss.

Image

MO-LEC-U-LAR- PL 8 (153): No STA Score -9, PRE +3, Deception +4, Protection 5, Immunity (Fort. Effects), "Frisbee" (Easily Removable; Morph 4- Any Form- Noticeable- Shadow Stays the Same), "Mo-Lec-U-Tar" Snare 8, "Space Rocket Form" Space Travel 2, Flight 7 [76]
-Mo-Lec-U-Lar looks like a robot who also acts as a spy and master of disguise, replicating the appearances of important people and even a box of cigars in Chief Stargazer's office! The only weakness is that his shadow always looks like his natural one.

Image

HARDWARE- PL 6 (105): ST +1, INT +6, AWA +1, Expertise (Science) 6 (+12), Technology 8 (+14), Equipment 4 (Roll-Up Bag of Tools), Inventor [28]
-Hardware is the technical specialist and inventor of the crew, and looks more than a little like Ssslythe from ThunderCats. Apparently a recurring issue is that Mon*Star is behind on paying him. He's the weakest fighter of the crew.

Image

Art by Inspector97.

YES-MAN:
-Yes-Man is the pathetic assistant of Mon*Star- he never fights and mostly just maintains the transformation chamber, acting as a snivelling snot. One episode sees his mind enhanced so he becomes a duplicitous, power-hungry agent, trying to usurp Mon*Star.

You know, I've got to respect any villain bad ass enough to have a giant space squid as his personal transportation.

SilverHawks were kind of interesting to me, as the show wasn't bad by any means, there were some cool designs in the face masks, ships, etc., and it was kind of interesting having the heroes actually being space cops. I would have totally done some kind of shared ThunderCats / SilverHawks / TigerSharks shared universe.

One thing that always kind of stood out to me about the SilverHawks was how different they were from most other 80s series.

In most shows, the heroes and the villains usually had mirror image abilities. The Autobots and Decepticons were all transforming robots with guns, the characters in MASK were all special vehicle drivers with unique superpowered helmets, the Sky Commanders all used the same gravity lock / cable technology, etc.

In other shows, you'd wind up with things where the heroes usually had a big advantage over the villains, because the heroes had a diverse range of abilities while the villains were all very same-y. In the Centurions, the heroes had all the cool abilities while the bad guys were generic mooks whose only advantage was in overwhelming numbers. In ThunderCats, the mutants weren't really a threat individually, relying mainly on weapons while the ThunderCats were all highly skilled fighters with unique powers AND magic weapons. In the Bionic 6, the family all had cool superpowers on top of enhance strength, speed, durability and agility, while the bad guys didn't have anything nearly as cool going for them.

SilverHawks were one of the few times (along with shows like InHumanoids) where the heroes tended to have very similar, same-y abilities, all being cyborgs with flight capabilities and shoulder blasters. Quicksilver was a slightly better show, the twins were stronger, the Copper Kid was faster and more agile, but they were all more or less very similar. Bluegrass was the only one with a unique gimmick and that came at the cost of being able to fly on his own. It wasn't until other SilverHawks showed up and the heroes got some unique abilities, such as magic and time control.

The Mon*Star Mob tho? They were the ones with the cool designs and unique abilities. You had a fire breathing bruiser with superstrength, a gadget using tech expert, the strong buzzsaw robot, a girl with a super guitar, a shapeshifter who could turn into a frickin dragon, mother F****ING WINDHAMMER (now THAT'S a name), and Mon*Star having a pretty badass transformation sequence. And later on they got a guy who could do time travel stuff as well.

The Mob actually work as a pretty solid supervillain team. You could easily put them in Marvel or DC, give them an appropriate PL and they'd be a solid fight for most superhero teams.

Given the fleshy hands are never shown to be noticeably weaker than their cybernetic ones, I think it's safe to say that their bones and muscles have likely been replaced as well, meaning its likely the flesh over said hand is artificial. That said, it's never explained why they'd need to keep a hand with artificial skin, unless it's used for identification purposes like palm scanners and the like. Or maybe it was to make interacting with normal people easier, letting them have at least one human looking and feeling hand that could be shook.
